WENDY CHANT CRACK THE FAT LOSS CODE FOR SEPTEMBER 28, 2009

Welcome to the Code Cracker Challenge Board!!!

Please look over this post for helpful links and suggestions!

This is a continuation of the Wendy Chant “Crack the Fat-Loss Code” WOE Challenge Board! Please refer to prior challenge threads and the Other Diets board for general diet information and pick up the book, "Crack the Fat-Loss Code" for full diet information, guidelines, cycling schedules, sample menus, menu logs and more!

Whether you are just starting with the Cycle 1, Week 1 Carb Deplete or you are somewhere along the way, jump on in!! There are people at all levels of the Wendy Chant Way in here. This is a great group of helpful people who will be a great resource and support group for you.

Remember to weigh and measure yourself or select a pair of slacks to judge your losses by – you can choose whether you want to report your stats to the group or not … up to you … but you definitely need a measure of your progress.

Since we have so many levels, it's helpful when you ask questions or claim braggin' rights, if you mention in your postings what cycle, week and day you are on! Especially since the first weeks do have some restrictions that the latter weeks don’t.

Be sure to post tips and such too – especially if you’ve already been doing CTFLC for awhile now! And don't forget to share your menus! That is helpful for others, but also a good measure for others to help you should you encounter any problems yourself!

This is the place to share your weight loss successes, your personal story, your mistakes, grab some support, give some support ... whatever it is. We're here for you and each other. It really is a great group
Sooooo, how 'bout we get Crackin'?! LET'S DO THIS!!!

Crack The Fat Loss Code - Recipes

~CRACKERS LEARNING TO CRACK THE EXERCISE CODE~

This challenge is based on the 8-week program from "Crack the Fat Loss Code" by Wendy Chant. This challenge is open to any and all “Code Crackers” who are at any Cycle, any Week of the CTFLC program, whether it’s Cycle 1, Week 1 or Cycle 4, Week 8 or somewhere in between, and to those who are curious to watch and learn.

In brief, the 8 week program is divided into four cycles.

Cycle 1: Carb-Deplete Cycle – WEEK 1
This is the toughest week! For 7 days you will be restricting certain foods – mostly carbs – in order to manipulate the glycogen stored in the muscle. During this cycle you’ll be shutting off the body’s dependence on sugar and also teach it where to find the fat stores for energy! This week you will be counting carbs very closely so your veggies are somewhat limited and fats are more focused on the good fats. But, if you carefully follow the cycle you will never have to count carbs again!

Cycle 2: Macro-Patterning Cycle – WEEKS 2-4

Now you’ll move into what is called the Macro-Patterning Cycle. This is where you begin to slowly re-introduce carbs into your life, teaching the body to burn fat while slowing down the adaptive response. During week 2, you will begin to bring most of the foods that you consume regularly back into your daily meals. You will see less rigidity in the meal plans—and more substitutions. For best results, it is recommended that you continue to abstain from alcohol on carb-up days during Week 2. During Week 3, you will have two carb-up days, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. After this week is the best time to add in sweets and alcohol on your carb-up days.

*There are 3 kinds of days in Cycle 2.

Baseline Days

This is where you are teaching your body to adapt. You will be taking in the basic nutrients your body needs through proteins, you’ll take in good fats, but you’ll be adding in one starchy food at two different meals in your day, so long as you eat them before 3:00 p.m.

Carb-Down Days

These are days where you will have a more minimal starch intake to force your body to use fat as an energy source. One these days you will still get your fats from good fat sources, and you will consume one starch before 3:00 p.m.

Carb-Up Days

This is where you will increase your starches to stoke the metabolic rate and give the body what it needs for repair and growth. Your last 2 meals on this day will be primarily carbs! Yes, you can splurge on those usual forbidden foods – bread, desserts, pizza and even alcohol. We call these days Food Passes and you have two of them a week, typically on Wednesdays and Sundays, but the beauty of this plan is that you can adjust these Carb Up Days as needed for special occasions, making it very convenient and totally interchangeable.

Cycle 3: Accelerated Fat-Loss Cycle – WEEKS 5 & 6

For the 3rd cycle, you will begin to pick up the pace! You will continue to follow the same types of days that you did with the Macro-Patterning Cycle, but you will change how they are cycled in order to increase the body’s use of fat stores.

Cycle 4: Maintenance Cycle – WEEKS 7 & 8

The 4th cycle is all about teaching your body to reset back to a higher nutrient profile in favor of carbohydrates and fats. During this cycle you will get 2 new days – a cheat day where you can have any food you like – including any carbs you’ve missed, and you’ll also get a High-Carb Day where you have clean starches all throughout your day. If you have made your goal by this week, you will use this cycle to maintain. If you seek to continue your weight loss, you will restart your program at Cycle 2.

Let's get crackin'!!!

Jackie...my daughter is suppose to bring me her DVD player to use while I'm here. My DVD's have not even been opened. I hope to be able to ride my bike today if the tires are not flat. I need to exercise so bad....I can "feel" the flab coming back. My weight is holding, no gains. Yes..it is a very trying time right now. Hospice told my sister-in-law my brother will more than likely not be with us this time next month. It could even be a few weeks that we will lose him. It just tears my heart out...I love him as much as I love my husband, only in a different way. I'm sure you know what I mean. He had a lot of company Friday night and Saturday. I'll call him today and see him tomorrow. I know he'll need a day of rest after all the company. I just can't imagine life without him. But, he is tired of suffering and it hurts to see him like he is so we have to let him go. I truly appreciate all the thoughts and prayers...you are wonderful friends. I'll try to drop in later this week. Take care all, Carol...

Carol: I am so sorry for what you are going through. It is so tough, I know. My best friend just called tonight to tell me her mother had passed. She's been with her in Florida for about 6 weeks. She sounded good, but I know she is going to miss her.

Carol: We are right here for you. We all love you very much.

Good night to all my Cracker Buds.

Hi everyone,

Mary, thank you for the link yet again.

Carol, my thoughts are with you. I lost my best friend this way ten years ago to breast cancer and I can envision what you are going through. We are here for you.

Tam, I am indeed trying to break away from the strict regime of the plan without damaging it or gaining. Anxiety about a variety of issues is not helping.

Jackie, I did make the salad which I loved and also I was surprised that my husband, who is a traditional person as far as ingredients are concerned, enjoyed it too. I am making it again for my daughter tonight--who, by the way, is not a salad person but she loves avocados. She tasted it when I first made it and as we were driving to school this morning she asked me to make it. So success!!!!

Love to all,
Sophia (eyre22)

Morning Crackers! Had a good day yesterday. Went to church with my mom then took her to lunch. After that, watched some football with DH and read. A very nice Sunday afternoon. I'm off today and I may go shopping with mom. I have just til this Friday to meet my birthday goal and I don't think it's gonna happen. I feel like I gained a couple of pounds back this weekend but I'm not gonna weigh until Friday. I'm okay with being a couple of pounds away from my (short term) goal. I'm just happy I'm so close to it after the 'eat fest' I had this summer! Next goal will be Thanksgiving but I'm not sure what that number's going to be yet.

Carol-Jackie is so right. We love you and will be here for you!

Sophia-It's hard for me to stay on track when I'm stressed. I wish I knew why we turn to food for comfort! I do think that there are little "tweaks" you can do with this woe that don't hurt. Kelley17 was the queen of tweaks and she managed to have great success with the diet.

Jackie-what was that salad recipe again? I've got to try it after it got such raves!

I'm going to go walk.Maybe I can talk DH into going too. Have a great day everyone!

Dede: Here's the post I did with the salad in it:

I watched Dr. Oz the other day and he was talking about superfoods. he mentioned:

Blackberries, has 6 grams of fiber in 3/4 cup
Avocado, has 12 grams of fiber in 1
pistachios, 3 grams of fiber in 1 ounce

So, today, Ken and I had a spinach salad with 1/2 avocado, 1 tbsp chopped walnuts (didn't have pistachios), 2 radishes sliced each, 1/2 cup blackberries, served with a pear infused vinegar over top. Plus we each had 1/2 boiled sweet potato. So delicious!

2-mile walk completed 8:39 a.m. 9/28/09

Carol I'm sorry about your brother and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Hi Ladies,

Just want to make sure I am IN again.

Mary - thank you for the thread. I know you've been doing it for a while and you just never forget. Thank you!

Jackie - I am glad you are doing well. I love your recipes and missed our recipe and ideas exchange. Your salad idea sounds great. I have been trying to eat more salads as long as there is some protein in them. I started adding pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, bee pollen, flaxseed, blueberries, etc. I though salads were boring but now I manage to look forward to having one

Carol - So sorry to hear about your brother. Remembering my Dad, no matter how "prepared" we think we are, we really are never ready for a loved one';s passing. The only thought that was giving me some solace was that my Dad's enormous suffering would end. There is mercy in that.

Sophia (love your name!) - I remember when you joined! You have done so well on this WOE . Good for you!!!

Tam - Thanks for your warm welcome. Change my baby's picture just for you. How are you doing? Are you still doing this WOE?

Dede!!!! How are you, my buddy? I sent you an e-mail (not to bore everybody else with my every day trials and tribulations).
I did see your art on the FB - WOW (that is all I have to say)!

Kelley - it's great to see your face! I am glad you are doing well. I am not on any particular Woe right now. Sort of naturally, I started following Tosca Reno's clean eating way more and more so that's pretty much it. Sometimes when I look back at my food diary, I see that somehow I am still doing carb ups and carb downs

Linda gemi - You are always so upbeat and optimistic

I am on my way to the gym now - had a good breakfast, an apple and almond-chocolate spread for a snack. Hope to check back in later!

Ok, everyone sounds good.

Kelley & Vladis~~I am so happy to see you posting on here. Miss hearing from you two.

Started reading The Metabolism Miracle. Step one is 8 weeks of ridding your body of bad carbs BUT it's not a complete deplete. It starts with a 3 day no carb kick off. There are food lists and you should eat every 5 hours (including right before going to bed and if you wake up in the middle of the night). The carbs you can have use the 5x5 rule, 5 grams only every 5 hours. Haven't gotten to the food lists yet but from what I've read it sounds very similar to Wendy's lists. Same rules for drinking a lot of water, vitamins, avoid artificial sweeteners, exercise and eating liberally but not in excess.

I'll check back later, listening to Dr Oz right now.

EMAIL FROM WENDY CHANT TODAY

******(Dear Mary,

Not sure if you heard, but a few days after returning from our dream vacation, cruising in Alaska, I had to have major emergency surgery. I was in ICU and have had a very hard time. I'm home recovering now it will take me two more week to be up and working again.

Some of you maybe waiting for me to respond to your emails and I apologize for the delay. There were several days that I could not use my left arm at all and even now during the recovery process It is difficult for me to use a keyboard.

With the cancer I'm fighting these setbacks can happen. I'm doing well and optimistic but moving around is the hard part.

See you all soon thanks for your patience.

God Bless,

Wendy

PS. We have a new online class starting this Thursday, Oct 1st. Special pricing for Boot Camp Alumni and First Timers. Email me with any questions and please put "Boot Camp" in the subject line so I can make sure to respond to your email promptly. )********

Praying for her quick recovery.

I'm back, folks! Everyone sounds great.
Sorry to hear about the tough time you're going through, Carol You, you brother and family are in our prayers.

Fasted well, considering, other than a splitting headache, which is not typical for me. Got to bed early (was asleep b4 midnight-my first goal)- but awoke wide awake, thirsty and hungry at 5AM- should have had more water and protein last night..... Still haven't eaten, but have drunk 5 glasses so far this morning-
I didn't drink/eat right last night- to say the least...water and cake at the synagogue, and at home a bowl of soup, a slice of cheese, 2 tiny savory cheese turnovers, more water, a glass of orange juice, some fruit, cookies and cake. Yes, I know- but the cake was the only thing available at the synagogue b4 we went home, after almost 26 hours of fasting and after that, those honey cookies and cake at home called my name.

Today will be a better day....WOE-wise, at least.... which is what this is all about, right?

Morning Jackie & dede! and everyone else.

Not doing too much today either. We may give our football tickets away to a friend and stay home to watch the game. It rained all night and the forcast is rain off and on today.

Carol~~ditto to what everyone else has said. Miss hearing from you.

Sending for all.
Metabolism Miracle? Did I miss something?
Checked it out- it all makes such sense- same idea pretty much as Wendy- we have to lower the carb's control over us- I see it all so well when letting things get out of hand..... I think much of it is chemical- along with some bad "comfort food" habits...

I can definitely relate- but I see that I dealt with "issues" so much better when I was on program. The "bad" stuff makes me more sensitive emotionally. I am really struggling right now- trying to get back into things amongst stresses and holiday preps. I have 3 more days to get a weeklong holiday together, my two teens(18/16) came home from school last night with loads of wash, we have one of our couples staying with us, and my DD is about to give birth(due Friday- so it can be anytime in the next 2 weeks)- I've coached her through the first four, and hope to do it again. I still don't know how many I will be feeding through the holiday- meals will be anywhere between 5-28 mouths, and afew couples will be staying over at any given time.... I may have to cook some meals for DD if she has her baby b4 or during the holiday and wants to spend some of the holiday at home with her family post-birth (rather than moving in by me, as my home won't be very restful for her right now) DDIL#4 is about to give birth to their first also- so that will take up some time....
BTW- my mom's having cataract surgery this afternoon- my niece(20) will go with her this time- I was there for the first 2(this is a "secondary cataract") and an extraction lately, so that's a relief.... but will have to visit her tonight to see how she's doing, and she has a stressful MD appointment Thurs afternoon.
As you see, it's "hopping" here.
All that holiday food around, along with the stress is enough to drive me over the "edge"- and eating that stuff makes me sluggish and "down" on myself.

Love that avatar! Are the flowers yours also? Pretty!
Yes, I am struggling right now, as you can see, but know this is good for me.... Hoping for smoother sailing next month, and will be back at the gym, so that should help.....

Morning Crackers! I was supposed to work this morning but since there are only 2 cases on the surgery schedule,my boss let me off. I won't get paid, which isn't good but I will be able to spend time with my niece Marissa since she is out of school today. Not sure what we will do but we always have fun. She is such a joy to be around. Very bright and funny!

Tam-My head was spinning reading all that you have going on! Maybe your daughter will have her baby on my birthday! 2 new grandchildren, wow! You are truely blessed.

Mary-thanks so much for posting Wendy's email. I can't think of anyone braver than Wendy Chant. My heart goes out to her and to her family. And through it all,she is STILL worried about not answering emails etc. She is such a giving person. I will definitely keep her in my prayers.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Morning Ladies!

T**~~sorry I thought you mentioned the Metabolism Miracle but it was Cindi. It happens, old age and all that! You are busy, busy, busy. The book is interesting and I will probably use some of Diane Kress's ideas. Especially eating only carbs that have 5 grams for the next few weeks. We'll see.

Any one had any experience in the Miracle Metabolism Diet? There is some "buz" about it among some ladies, but hadn't heard it mentioned here.

Have a great day! We have a college group coming this weekend. Much easier on us than middle/high schoolers! Getting older, I guess...

DH had his 67th B-D yesterday! He looks and acts much younger and we thank the LORD for good health.

Praying for you all to have better health, too.
Thank you Mary for the post about Wendy. I did receive the update also. Wendy has been through so much, I have been praying for her.

My eating was good yesterday, I made it a C day. Today I will do the same. I pushed myself yesterday to complete Leslie Sansone's 4 mile DVD. Today I will concentrate on my upper body strength and a brisk walk/run.

Hi dede! I never liked it when the "boss" decided I should take a day off. But, sounds like you're going to have a fun, upbeat day!

Well isn't it wonderful that our great Social Security System is now in the RED. I've always thought that by the time my kids get to that age, it will be gone.

I'll check back later. Got to eat and get busy.

Good morning, Ladies!Happy to be able to pop in again
Mary - thank you for the update on Wendy. I was wondering how she was. I can't even imagine what she has to go through. She is an amazing woman for sure.
Jackie - I love your siggy. That is so true. Are you still following the Gabriel method? I read his book but it just never clicked with me
Cindi - Hi! Nice to see you are still here
Tam - Sorry for your fasting headache. One time I had a med procedure scheduled in a middle of the day. I had to fast* and by the time the procedure was over I was feeling insane with pain and caffeine deprivation. My DSIL who is an MD told me that next time I should tell the docs that I need a caffeine IV (she was NOT joking) right after the procedure. They actually do that, can you believe it? Anyway, I to you for holding up and following thru with your fast. The photo of my furry child is now 4 years old. Those flowers are also mine - that's was by the front door. Porthos now is about twice as big and not that innocent looking
Dede - have fun with Marissa! I know you think of something fun to do.
Linda gemi - I was leafing thru the latest CE magazine last night and I can't wait to make those mashed sweet potatoes with cardamom and pecans! that should be great! I have been making a lot from those magazines and sort of following her menus - especially it is great to get some snack ideas from there.
OK, on my way to get my hair painted today. Have a great day everybody!!!

I thought it may be caffeine, but it started only in the afternoon- I hadn't had a coffee for 24 hours- shouldn't it have started earlier? It lasted til this morning- I didn't have any caffeine after the fast- and by the time I awoke it was gone. Whatever- as long as it's gone....
Thanks for the concern. Don't tell my DH about that IV- he'll have one daily He lives for his coffee... But I've trained him not to have one after 8PM- he hasn't been sleeping well. He can nap right after one though... go figure....
You seem to know Dede well. After meeting her, I can say I can imagine having loads of fun with her. We didn't have much time to.

Vladis, it really is so good to have you back here again. I have realized just how true my siggy line is and have begun finally to do what I can live with and do daily.

No, I'm not really doing the Gabriel Method, except for some of his affirmations and meditations, I am not following his WOE, although I do some of it, just because that is what I am doing. I am food combining, and it has become the thing that I can do daily, and if I do something different for one meal, I just go right back to it again. I truly do love it and it feels right for me. My belly, which is my biggest problem, has begun to shrink. I am also walking with Leslie Sansone. She is amazing and my body is shifting and changing daily. I am using a product (as are some others on here) called Baxyl. Baxyl changed my life with regards to joint pain. It is also affecting my skin for the better. Baxyl is a product I will probably take for a very long time. I have no more knee or shoulder pain. I am feeling younger and younger every day. More like that girl I expect to see in the mirror and am very shocked to see the person I see instead!

What is the CE magazine? For some reason I am not recognizing it.

Its nice to see Kelley and Vladis checked in. Carol thinking of you in this difficult time.

They looked very yummy and didn't I see a sweet potato mousse? Maybe that was in her cookbook. Or maybe it was WW. I just had a senior moment. Anyways, sweet potato anything works for me.

5 grams of a carb can't be found, well hardly in anything I have on hand. I'd have to buy lowcarb bread, yogurt, milk etc. I'm going to half my carb portions instead. But I'll keep reading the Metabolism Miracle for some ideas. I still come back to eating clean and having carb up and down days. Now if I could just give up having vino on the weekend.

Hey lovely ladies. Vladis so good to see you. Hi Tam! I'm so sorry for the headache but glad it went away. Vladis that CE mag sounds great, may have to check it out. Just a quick note - I'm going to U2 tonight, my girlfriend hurt her back so she doesn't think she could make it through the concert tonight. I'm sad for her, but so excited for the concert. Her back is feeling much better and I asked her if she was sure she didn't want the tickets she said no. Hugs to you all!

Hi Jackie, Mary, Kelley, Tam, Linda and Ladies who just logged in,

Just popping in to say hi. Yup, Jackie, that's Clean Eating magazine. Now I subscribe to it - LOVE it and read it cover to cover and cook from it all the time! I also subscribed to their Oxygen magazine - lots of great exercise info AND recipes, etc. In the last issue they had Wendy's egg popovers recipe

Linda gemi, you probably saw Spiced Pumpkin Mousse in the last edition. Sounds great, doesn't it? oh, did you see Dr. Oz today? He had a segment on heartburn. I went to the health food store and armed myself with some Himalayan salt . Maybe that will help I also noticed that a bottle of wine was positioned in the "bad foods" corner

OK, off to make some dinner. Later!

LindaGem~This does sound alot like Wendy's approach, but I agree, less carbs. I have started cutting my servings down, but I noticed that I am more tempted to snack on...CARBS! I think it makes me feel more unstable/unsure or something. Oh, well...tomorrow is weigh-in at Curves.

Love to ALL and to ALL a goodnight!

Hi Tam, it certainly is hopping "there". But all of this is wonderful...I think I will have to wait a long time before becoming a grandmother. My first daughter has a long studies plan, she is currently applying to graduate schools and is interested in becoming a museum curator. She is getting a double major in Art History and Archaeology and a minor in Jewish studies this June and will not hear anything that does not have to do with her studies. Very determined and focused..I was like this too but then at the age of 28 I met my husband and the rest is history.

Kelley and Vladis, it is wonderful to hear from you and find out that you are doing well.

This metabolism book sounds interesting-- will check it out.

Hugs to everyone,

Good morning everyone!

I feel good today. Got my exercise in again yesterday, drank all my water and did super good on my eating. Not sure if it will make a difference scale wise but it sure helps me feel good.

Yes that was it! I'll check that out. I missed Dr Oz yesterday when he did that segment and I wanted to check out Oprah but got busy. I have to start DVRing those shows during the day that I want to see.

Cindi~~that's basically what the first 8 weeks of the Metabolism Miracle is about. Getting rid of those cravings. I do the same thing, very tempted to snack on carbs. Crunchy, salty, or sweet things. I guess you're a Metabolism B also. The other half of the world can snack on those things, add exercise and lose weight. If Met B folks followed their example, they would gain. I will have to check out the nutritional label on some of the products when I go to the store. Still reading and checking out all the threads.
