Donia: Hey, girl! Just an idea: It may be time to 'cycle over' to another plan. The body does quickly adjust to whatever 'new' we're doing - that's how I started cycling lcing plans (but it took me longer to figure out - way past the first 3 weeks). But that 3rd week "halt" is the pits, and it's the place where I always got stuck (years ago). Two years ago, I was SO determined that I stuck to lcing, no matter what, but I did learn to cycle proteins and carbs so that the wt. loss would keep going.

Even then, my losses were 'upfront' - I'd lose a lot, then stay the same, then get stuck for about a month or so, then lose a lot. And so it went, for 6.5 months until I got 100 lbs. off (for one day)...and then the bounces began. And it's been like that since Nov. 2007.

Btw, Sharon: I did find somebody fairly local (about an hour or so to drive) who treats fibro and also uses bio-identical hormones when necessary. My next plan is to get my doctor to write me the referral to see the new doctor. I will need all the diplomacy I possess, because, in my experience, the doctors in this area are not keen on writing referrals, even for other doctors within the same system. I know it has to do with insurance co.'s giving them a hard time. My next challenge? The doctor I want to see is *not* in the system. (It figures!)

What I'm going to say to my doctor is basically this (but in a much more diplomatic manner): When you double-check my medical files, you'll find that whenever I say there is something wrong, I've been right...with my fibro, my herniated disks, and my gallbladder. It's not as though I always ask for referrals, but when I do, it's because I am catching my body's signals for help. So I'd really appreciate it if you would once more help me be pro-active in taking care of my health.

Again, wish me luck!

Divine, I'm glad you explained the wild times at your house. It helps understand why you're MIA once in a while. I get worried when you're not around. Don't let those (any) hormones keep you away either. Or we'd all be gone Never happen. Where else could I, would I, vent?????????? I sincerely hope you can pull on your big girl panties and be happy and optimistic again because you're our anchor!!! Best wishes for you to feel good

Sharon: Hey, I hope there a difference between big girl panties and panties for big girls - cuz I refuse to get back into the latter!

Donia: Yep, please don't be afraid to rotate, and don't be afraid of that blasted scale. Ignore it for awhile if you have to, but don't give up on the low-carbing! I did that once, and it helped. Right now, I'm doing it again...it's nice to check every week, or bi-weekly, or even monthly. I think it depends on our mindset. Once I ignored the scale at the 3 week point, and when next I checked (6th week), my total loss was 35 lbs. (That was on Atkins Induction, back in 2004 or 2005, long before I learned about 'tweaking' or 'rotating" lc plans.)

When I restarted lcing in May 2007, I eventually learned to rotate to Stillman's (low-fat, low-carb, but no more than 14 days) and Atkins (20 carbs per day, at the highest, no counting of fats or proteins) or something similar (like Protein Power, which does count proteins and carbs) every few weeks. I even experimented with non-lc woes (they didn't work for me).

The thing is - don't give up! In this time period, sometimes it helps to pull back just a wee bit on the proteins IF you are slowly upping carbs each week (ala Atkins). That is because proteins can convert to glucose....but don't pull back too much. Just a bit, just a little less at each meal...and see what happens. OR return to the previous carb level, and see what happens. You may have already found your critical carb level.

Ok, now.... where is everybody else???

I'm thinking of going to a more Atkins like plan. I'm thinking about a lot of things, really. I'm sure I'll figure it out! I have decided to order some homeopathic hcg, but I won't be starting that for a while.

You and me both Donia! No giving up this time! Still at just 9 lbs down in 3 weeks. Haven't moved a bit for two weeks. I know I have hormone issues but omg seriously...can't I go down just 1.1 pounds so I can say I've lost over 10 lbs?! and down to another set of numbers on the scale. HAHA

need to read the Eades new book. I'm thinking that it will help me but I just haven't had a second to put into that. Too much work that has to get done! Sunday...that's my goal day to read that book and decide if I can handle it. I figure if I haven't lost any more weight by Sunday then Monday morning I will start the 6 week challenge and see how I do. Seems like I've gotta do something drastic to get my body going down again!

Donia, good for you at hanging in there. When it clicks, you'll know it. At least you've kept off what you've lost (your body is probably trying to figure out what the heck is going on). And then, you'll have a wonderful Whoosh!

You too, Kelly! After losing my initial big chunk, the scale didn't move either direction for months and months. It's now been something like twenty months and I've hit 60 pounds down. I'm not even "slow and steady". I'm just slow. But am glad I didn't cave in to any other way of eating because it's paying off now. I refuse to look and linger on how far I left to go. But now enjoying looking back at where I've come from.

Hang in there!

Screwing up is part of succeeding (cuz that's how we learn NOT to do it again). Next time you're going to an event like a fair or carnival, eat a nice legal meal before you go. PLUS, bring some legal foods with for those moments you're tempted to indulge in crap. You'll feel so much better and enjoy the event more. I like to picture myself at the same event next year, knowing I will have less poundage.

I'm glad you're are back on plan!

Don't worry about the pounds staying the same, if you're losing inches and wearing clothes that didn't fit a month ago! I actually had lose about 50 pounds before I could change a size of clothes........The scale will move; just stay true to your healthy way of eating.

I am having a terrible T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E week....I am gaining every single day.....I am back up to 244 what the heck is going on!!!! I was at 239 at the begining of the week. I am about to lose my mind. The only thing I can think of is that I am eating too much mayo, cream cheese, cheese, lunch meats...things like this. I do eat these foods almost everyday. I have got to come up with a plan of action.
1. No lunchmeat----I NEVER used to eat lunch meat....then I bought it on sale---now that is all I want to eat!!!! I think it is the convience of it. I also think my body is very sensative to salt. NO MORE!
2. Limit Mayo---this goes hand in hand with the lunch meat! I want to dip it in mayo---very high calorie

3. Limit cream cheese....I love to mix this stuff with pumpkin and splenda....I am thinking this has something to do with the gain...I have no self control when it comes to this.

I have fibro and the way I have been eating has really effected my hands....they are killing me now. I do think that there is a strong link between processed foods and the pain level....It is a vicious cycle....dont feel well...dont feel like cooking....eat low carb processed food...gain weight...pain level increases.....I have got to break the cycle. Thank you all for listening to me.....I really do appreciate it.

Mommy2aCutie, Sorry you're having a terrible week. How long have you been doing low carb? Are you doing induction or have you climbed the ladder? Try going back to the beginning; read it all again. Start over. You'll be glad you did! It's tough when you're eating the correct foods and the scale goes up instead of down, but don't get discouraged. Just hang in there.

I have done low carb since 2004---I lost quite a bit of weight---I have had two children in 3 years(both NICU babies, one has had strokes at birth----to say the least the last 5 years have been a great big ball of stress that never stops!) I did not use to be binge eater and now I am a stress binge eater...the sugar seems to calm me. I have not binged in a while though. I am going to go back to the beginging starting today...I am actually reading about induction right now. I actually think I am going to go vlc for a little bit to try to kick start this. Thank you for your suggestions.

Donia, I read your post wrong, I thought it said "I won't be here for a couple of weeks."
I'm glad I read it again cuz I was going to ask you where you were going. I'm going to have to really hit it hard from now on. So many friends here are going on he hcg. Best wishes for success to all of you who are doing different plans.

I'll be weighing in the morning and I'll let you know how the week went at that point. Sleep well everyone.

We don't want you to go away, donia, but I do understand wanting to "get" away!!! Best wishes for a successful week.

I weighed 2 pounds down this morning. Yay, me! I'm sure it would've been down more because other than sampling our canning wares, I was perfectly on-plan and got more workout than I've gotten in years. The 'problem' is that we've made 3 different blends of apple butter and I HAD to taste and sample. So, consequentl, I've consumed a BUNCH of sugar this past week. Nearly finished with that, so no more tasting!

Mondays are our weigh in day, right? My mind is fuzzy this morning. Need coffee.

I'll be back here a bit later. Rise and shine everyone. It's a new week

Hi, everybody!

Well, Divine is "about" the same, except the rainy weather really has made me miserable with painful swelling. (Mommy2, I have fibro, too, so I definitely relate.)

Sharon: Truth to tell, hon, I didn't think you were being 'snarky.' I thought you were trying to be funny!

Gals, I don't know if I'll start a new thread or not. Seems there are a few of us hanging in on this challenge, so would it be easier to stick with this thread or start a new one for October?

VOTES, please????

Sorry the weather is giving you pain, Divine. Prayers for improvement.

Hi, Sharon: Thanks for voting! I do hope we hear from those who joined us, just to let us all know how they are doing.

Well, today was a difficult day when it came to fighting off water retention. But the scale says I just dropped about 4 lbs. since yesterday...so that's definitely all water.

When the weather gets bad, I feel bad. I really had hoped to get a good grip on more fat loss before the fall equinox (which isn't even here yet!).

And, once more, I'm about to hit that same wt. at which I have been bouncing for the past few weeks. I think I may have to severely cut proteins and fats for a bit (in other words, Stillman's) to jump this hurdle!

Never give up - never give in!

Hello Ladies. Sorry I've been AWOL. I can barely keep up with commenting on the 300+ thread and then I joined this one. I tend to get overwhelmed easily.

I'm still plugging along. I haven't made any progress on my goal of waking up early to eat breakfast.

DH and I just got back from a mini vacation. I have always had an extremely difficult time staying on plan at restaurants and away from the house. I feel very deprived and angry. So for this little trip I didn't even kid myself that I was going to try and stay on plan b/c it never works out. So I went into this with eyes wide open. Now I'm back at home and back to lowcarb.
