All I know is when I don't count calories and low carb I can maintain my weight but lose sooo slowly I lose motivation. I am 47 so maybe that is why I have to count. The difference between the first and second # in my profile is I was at 166 on Dec. 13 and was doing well and fell off the wagon. I restarted on 7/8 at 158.2. Are you counting cals if so how many are you aiming for? Jeanie |

Newbie here - I'm in!
Hi! I'm Kate. I used Atkins to lose 30 lbs back in 2003. 10 of the 30 crept back on over the years and after giving birth to my first child in May 2008 I had 40 lbs to lose. I lost the 40 and now I'm going after the last 10 and want them off THIS MONTH! I lost 8 or so last month using Atkins and want to keep up my diet stamina but it's getting hard as times goes on.
I'm hoping checking in here will keep me and accountable for my goals and your successes will motivate me as well! Today I'm at 138 lbs after a weekend of birthday parties and showers, up 2 lbs from last Friday. |

Hi Jean! Well, at this weight I don't have to be so strict - I just keep them under 2000. I just eyeball my food every day and keep it reasonable. Some days I'm pretty low (yesterday only 939) and today I higher (1600).
I am trying to do the idea of keeping fat to 60% of calories, carbs to 4% of calories, and protein to 36% of calories. But it is harder to do when your calories are all over the place. And to be honest my carbs are more at the 2.8% b/c I really have to force myself to eat veggies (not the salad type veggies - I have no problem with raw veggies). I'm talking about the cooked variety - green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. I am so far away from my goal that I am just trying to keep from binging out. But I can see why you need to be a lot stricter since you are so close to goal! And you are exercising a lot, right? I have to add that in eventually. Baby steps... I enjoy your posts! |

Kate glad you came to join us, your doing great and you'll find alot of support on all the thread here.Jeanie I also find that once I started getting closer to goal I need to watch my calories. I tend to yo yo the same couple of lbs for weeks. I just changed my program a little and finally got the scale moving. I love to eat so even though it's lc, I eat alot of it. |

Thanks for the warm welcomes.
I'm down half a pound today - YAY! I rollerbladed for about 45 minutes yesterday on a pretty intense route with hills. Did ok with the diet. It gets so difficult when feeding my one year old not to nibble at the remains of her sandwiches or waffles. I only feed her whole wheat, but still too many carbs for me at this stage and even just a couple of bites puts me into a craving tailspin. I made a delicious low carb stuffed mexican pie for dinner, baby and hubby loved it and I was able to resist the temptation of my husband making gatorade milkshakes after dinner. Whew. |

Kate wtg on rollerblading, if I ever did that I'd be in the hospital. I'm about as graceful as a bull
And the mexican pie sounds delis.Well for me I love to nibble all day, so I have to keep a written journal to keep it under control. I's alway lc food but I eat alot of it. I love to cook so I can pretty much turn most things into lc. |

I was reading one book by Green (Oprah's old trainer). He was talking about metabolism and suggests working out in the morning to give your metabolism a boost so it burns hotter all day. I don't know when you work out, but maybe that would help??
Do you lift weights at all? |

Here is the recipe for the Mexican Stuffed Pie: Low Carb Luxury: Recipe - Stuffed Mexican Pie. I added a taco seasoning packet to the meat to spice it up a bit and could have used half the meat. It turns out as a big pan of taco meat with a thick cheese layer on top. My husband made himself a meximelt out of it and has had it for lunch every day for the past week!
Keep it up Misty, you maybe just need to change up your routine to ignite your metabolism? I know as I get closer to my goal I'll need to switch up my workout routine and add more strength training. I'm going to a bachelorette party this weekend in L.A. - I'm hoping to go down 3 lbs this week so I don't drink my way back up to my starting weight! So far I've maintained from last week which I'm pretty happy about since we went to 2 birthday parties over the weekend, one with an AMAZING taco bar. "I'll have 2 tacos.... ... hold the taco" |

Hey guys, can I join this forum? I'm trying to lose 10lbs by the end of August. I'm trying to get to 137.5lbs.
name..........start weight..........goal weight.........current........ left to lose Cactus...........147.5......................137.5. .... ........143...............5.5......... Misty, have you tried carb cycling? In Bill Phillip's book Body for Life, he recommends when you hit a plateau you try to things-- eating 5-6 small meals a day of 200-300 calories each every 3 hours, and the second thing is to try 2 days VLC and 3 days higher carb (30-50) and then back to LC. After 2 weeks of this rotation you should shake up your body. Well, you could try the 5 small meal thing first if you find that easier. Last edited by Cactus-BJ; 08-11-2009 at 09:44 PM.. |
