WENDY CHANT CRACK THE FAT LOSS CODE FOR JULY 6, 2009

Welcome to the Code Cracker Challenge Board!!!

Please look over this post for helpful links and suggestions!

This is a continuation of the Wendy Chant “Crack the Fat-Loss Code” WOE Challenge Board! Please refer to prior challenge threads and the Other Diets board for general diet information and pick up the book, "Crack the Fat-Loss Code" for full diet information, guidelines, cycling schedules, sample menus, menu logs and more!

Whether you are just starting with the Cycle 1, Week 1 Carb Deplete or you are somewhere along the way, jump on in!! There are people at all levels of the Wendy Chant Way in here. This is a great group of helpful people who will be a great resource and support group for you.

Remember to weigh and measure yourself or select a pair of slacks to judge your losses by – you can choose whether you want to report your stats to the group or not … up to you … but you definitely need a measure of your progress.

Since we have so many levels, it's helpful when you ask questions or claim braggin' rights, if you mention in your postings what cycle, week and day you are on! Especially since the first weeks do have some restrictions that the latter weeks don’t.

Be sure to post tips and such too – especially if you’ve already been doing CTFLC for awhile now! And don't forget to share your menus! That is helpful for others, but also a good measure for others to help you should you encounter any problems yourself!

This is the place to share your weight loss successes, your personal story, your mistakes, grab some support, give some support ... whatever it is. We're here for you and each other. It really is a great group
Sooooo, how 'bout we get Crackin'?! LET'S DO THIS!!!

Crack The Fat Loss Code - Recipes

~CRACKERS LEARNING TO CRACK THE EXERCISE CODE~

This challenge is based on the 8-week program from "Crack the Fat Loss Code" by Wendy Chant. This challenge is open to any and all “Code Crackers” who are at any Cycle, any Week of the CTFLC program, whether it’s Cycle 1, Week 1 or Cycle 4, Week 8 or somewhere in between, and to those who are curious to watch and learn.

In brief, the 8 week program is divided into four cycles.

Cycle 1: Carb-Deplete Cycle – WEEK 1
This is the toughest week! For 7 days you will be restricting certain foods – mostly carbs – in order to manipulate the glycogen stored in the muscle. During this cycle you’ll be shutting off the body’s dependence on sugar and also teach it where to find the fat stores for energy! This week you will be counting carbs very closely so your veggies are somewhat limited and fats are more focused on the good fats. But, if you carefully follow the cycle you will never have to count carbs again!

Cycle 2: Macro-Patterning Cycle – WEEKS 2-4

Now you’ll move into what is called the Macro-Patterning Cycle. This is where you begin to slowly re-introduce carbs into your life, teaching the body to burn fat while slowing down the adaptive response. During week 2, you will begin to bring most of the foods that you consume regularly back into your daily meals. You will see less rigidity in the meal plans—and more substitutions. For best results, it is recommended that you continue to abstain from alcohol on carb-up days during Week 2. During Week 3, you will have two carb-up days, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. After this week is the best time to add in sweets and alcohol on your carb-up days.

*There are 3 kinds of days in Cycle 2.

Baseline Days

This is where you are teaching your body to adapt. You will be taking in the basic nutrients your body needs through proteins, you’ll take in good fats, but you’ll be adding in one starchy food at two different meals in your day, so long as you eat them before 3:00 p.m.

Carb-Down Days

These are days where you will have a more minimal starch intake to force your body to use fat as an energy source. One these days you will still get your fats from good fat sources, and you will consume one starch before 3:00 p.m.

Carb-Up Days

This is where you will increase your starches to stoke the metabolic rate and give the body what it needs for repair and growth. Your last 2 meals on this day will be primarily carbs! Yes, you can splurge on those usual forbidden foods – bread, desserts, pizza and even alcohol. We call these days Food Passes and you have two of them a week, typically on Wednesdays and Sundays, but the beauty of this plan is that you can adjust these Carb Up Days as needed for special occasions, making it very convenient and totally interchangeable.

Cycle 3: Accelerated Fat-Loss Cycle – WEEKS 5 & 6

For the 3rd cycle, you will begin to pick up the pace! You will continue to follow the same types of days that you did with the Macro-Patterning Cycle, but you will change how they are cycled in order to increase the body’s use of fat stores.

Cycle 4: Maintenance Cycle – WEEKS 7 & 8

The 4th cycle is all about teaching your body to reset back to a higher nutrient profile in favor of carbohydrates and fats. During this cycle you will get 2 new days – a cheat day where you can have any food you like – including any carbs you’ve missed, and you’ll also get a High-Carb Day where you have clean starches all throughout your day. If you have made your goal by this week, you will use this cycle to maintain. If you seek to continue your weight loss, you will restart your program at Cycle 2.

Let's get crackin'!!!

Good morning, all! Marking my spot for the week!

In-laws have been here all weekend. They are leaving this morning. I have enjoyed having them here. I have lots of housework to do.

Ken's birthday was fun. We went to Famous Dave's and had a great meal. I brought over 1/2 of mine home, so I truly think listening to that CD every night is working. If you are listening to the CD, you have to listen every night consistently.

Susiturk: I'm going to have Ken try and help you download that CD. Maybe you should call us and he could help you over the phone. 812-951-2336. If you get our voicemail, just let us know what time is the best to reach you.

I just hate holidays. I have no will power whatsoever. 4 1/2 days of carbing down followed by 3 days of decent eating + alcohol = regain all of my progress. I always feel like I'm starting over. I used to be able to do this with no problem. Now my anniversary is on Wed. and I would like to celebrate without the guilts. Sorry- being a bit whiney today...

I'm right there with you unfortunately. I seem to lose and regain the same 5 -10lb. over and over. But, like Lindagem said "marching forward, that's what we do".

Marking my spot for the week.

Tam, looking forward to hearing about the wedding.

Hello, Crackers!
Sitting here with one of my giant "iced coffee" catching up with you guys, which wasn't too hard, as the thread is sloooooowwwww.
Wedding's come and gone, and we are still in a daze- it was beautiful, and passed too quickly. The bride and groom looked stunning. They make a beautiful, happy couple.
I'm exhausted, in pain, but very happy.
Cracking wise, everyone was raving about how great I look, which was gratifying, though I know I have a ways to go- I am about 1/3 of the way to a healthy weight, and less than that to my goal weight.... I danced the evening away- and it was much easier this time. My new DIL's mom can't dance right now- she's due in Aug, and has a circulation problem , so I tried to make it up to them both for dancing for both of us. Eating wise, I ate what I wanted, sampling a bit of this and that, but never filled up and was hungry when I got home. This morning I weighed less than yesterday, and was right back on schedule this morning, though we have the dinner party tonight.... I will do my best to maintain this week.
There's alot to do this week, and I am pressured, which doesn't help my aching bones- a combination of activity, fatigue and FMS- been there before.... but the happiness balances it nicely...

Just came across this- I think someone once mentione New Whey here- so please take notice!

Two energy drink brands recalled for tampering - Food safety- msnbc.com
Take care, and I will try to pop in and out...

HI guys!
I've been MIA for awhile, but had a question and needed to check in with the experts!

I was on vacation.......had a great time, but BLEW IT the last few days. I'm in the middle of week 3...
I really feel like I should start over. Should I do a full deplete week or just a few days to get my body back on track?

thanks in advance gurus-

Don't be annoyed, just move forward with a smile on your face! It is all good, just a little glitch. I'm finally starting to make good decisions about my food, but not 100% of the time. I do as good as I can, and hopefully the next day will be better.

Hi, Lindagem.

Hey syd~~glad you enjoyed your vacation. How bad did you blow it? If it was a few days, I think I would just continue or just do a few Carb down days and go on. You just did a deplete and as Wendy says, you only have to do that week just once. OK, this is coming from someone who did it right the first time and now hates depletes. But, JMHO.

No change in my inches. I am not getting on the scale until after this week. I need to carb down the whole week and get back on track. Restarting with CrackTFLC Week 2 and still going to use WW to track things their way.

yeah I hear ya.
I actually don't mind depletes but that's because it's quick and easy food on the go- so I just make sure we are out and about all day!
I blew it bad. At one point I had cocoa puffs w/ semi melted ice cream. But I enjoyed myself so it's ok and I still felt comfortable in my clothes-but they were fitting a little snug at the end of the trip! My tummy did not like me at all yesterday.
Ugh- I think I'm going to do a few deplete days, see how I feel and go from there or start over. I obviously wasn't over my sugar/carb cravings as that's what I snacked on.

thanks

That sounds good. Mike doesn't like Zucchini but will eat cukes. I do something similar with them and tomatoes. I'm going to use your recipe and substitute cuccumbers. Sounds like we're having that tonight.

Request

Dear friends,
I have an unusual request of all of you. I'm a firm believer in the power of prayer and our area definitely needs everyone's prayers. It has been almost 2 years (22 1/2 months!) since south Texas has had any significant rainfall. The effects of this drought are being felt by all of nature, including humans.
In the past month, we've had 18 100+ (up to 104) degree days with no relief in sight. If the temp didn't reach 100, it was 98-99 degrees. San Antonio is on the brink of stage 3 water restrictions. This has never before happened in the history of San Antonio. There has been rain 100-150 miles NORTH of S.A. but nothing (not even cloud cover) south of the city.
I would appreciate a prayer chain going around the world on this matter as everything is dying and everyone seems to be getting depressed.
Thanks and I love you all.

I hear ya and will be praying for your area to get some rain. Even though we (on the East Coast) complain about having so much, it is much better than being in a drought situation.

HELLO!!

Hi Everyone.

I was so busy at work last week, and working late that I was not able to post.

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July Weekend.

Jackie I am sorry it is bittersweet for you. Glad you enjoyed you in laws and Ken's birthday. Congrats on your NSV re taking food home.

Hi Linda, Dede (always on vacation I want your life). Mary, Cindi, Carol, Penny, Vasi, Lisa and all the newbies.

Tam I am so glad the wedding was beautiful and you were able to dance the night away and eat whatever you wanted. It sounds like you are in control. That is wonderful.

Sara

You know, you all are just the greatest! Linda, I think that was awesome that you felt you could ask all of us to start a prayer chain for your state. You betcha we're gonna pray!

Hi, Sara! Yes, it is bittersweet, but my life is so much richer having had her in it. She changed us forever.
