honestly, I know that and if we were people that replaced our cars every 3 to 6 years I'd 100% agree with NEVER buying new. I know you lose money when you drive off the lot. but, we drive our cars to death (uh, van is a good example, lol. it is a 1993 and on it's last legs. we keep giving it more lives but not sure how long to do that). with that, I'm right now looking at newer used just to see. I'm trying to be happy with going that route IF we have to get something. but I really really like "new". I can't help it. I think I take after my daddy.

If I ever DID decide to put a ton of money on a car, I'd either get a 1955 Ford Thunderbird convertible or a 2005 Ford Thunderbird convertible

(depending on how crazy I decided to get)

That's about the only car I could picture going crazy enough to spend a ton on.

I understand that but you can find very good barely used vehichles that cost lots less and drive them to death--that's basically what we do. We have bought new and used and found used so much economically smarter. I'm just trying to help--do whatever is best for you.

DH and I decided that when the company car comes up for replacement, we'd just buy those. I'd be the only one that ever drove it anyway, it'd be dirt cheap and we'd know it's history well.

I bought the last one for $5090 and it had a book value of $8900 at the time. I traded it for a piece of land worth $6,600

I'd think they'd be right reasonable about now. Worth checking.

I'm looking at used. it's just hard for me. and I don't live in a big area so don't have the luxury of going to a lot of big lots or a ton of private sales without driving out of town. there are some, but not a lot.

I'm seriously not saying I will ONLY buy new. just it's hard for me NOT to want to. I am looking at used (if we have to buy something). it would be easier if I wanted a "car'. there are more of those for reasonable prices, lol.

Just make sure you can get a car fax. It gives you the car's history.

My mommy had a pink 1957 T-bird when I was little, an 77 T-bird later and a 93 t-bird when she died.

The 93 is still in her garage waiting on my brother to pick it up. He needs to get his butt down here and take it. If I'd known he was going to wait so long, I wouldn't have given it to him

DH LOVED that 93 t-bird....it's a souped up one....dad added some turbo jam to it. That was my parents only car they ever bought BRAND new with no miles on it.

Worked out perfect. My brother didn't need the land, but I didn't either, I half way wanted it, but didn't really want to spend the money. I offered him the car for it since he was shopping for a car for his oldest daughter and he accepted.

So, my 16 year old niece is spoiled and got a 2005 Grand Am for her sweet 16 October. Not bad for a first car, huh?

I was listening to Hunter and realized he was chewing on something. looked down and something green rolls out of his mouth and there are leaves next to it. he dives after it as I'm yelling at him (not sure what it is). it's a very unripe plum (I think).

He did tell me though that since he gave his daughter a car so new, it meant he's ending up on the hook with the other daughter and I better buy another company car for him to negotiate for in a few years

Okay, sweet dreams, off to water the cat, THEN bedtime.

My dh is a huge "gear-head" and loves cars but he's learned to buy used(cause of me!).

Mine was a Datsun B210 hatchback cocoa brown and it was ugly. Plus my parents made me pay back every cent plus insurance. Talk about teaching responsibility!!!!!

I didn't have a car as a teen. I had to share my dad's work car with him. it was an orange mazda. I did drive the family car occasionally but mostly they had me use Dad's if it was available.
