Cindy, Harley's can be expensive-especially if you have a travel pack on there! I would love to have one but, of course, it would have to be custom built for my short self!
Kaye, the hair looks great! Becky, glad you are feeling better ![]() Debbie, my husband seems to never notice the dirty counter either-there are always coffee grounds after he makes coffee and it seems like a never ending "trail" of bread crumbs ![]() I am using my nieces computer and she has a kiddie keyboard-th keys are huge and definitely made for hunting and pecking! It is hard for me to use and noisy, too b/c you have to push so hard on the keys. Tonight is the wedding. Thursday night was so much fun-just the bride, her mom, another friend from school and me. It was like the old days ![]() See y'all later! Happy 4th! ![]()

LOLing at the 'kiddie keyboard' Ange! But we're all glad you managed to check in! Fun to have a wedding on the 4th. Is everyone wearing red, white and blue?
Deb, hope work goes well and they realize you had nothing to do with the drama, if anything you defended her! Just ignore it and say 'wasn't me!' Becky, what did FIL say? Sorry you have to go there if he's not being nice! Do you HAVE to go? Maybe your ankle is acting up today and can't? ![]() Blessings for the baptism tomorrow, such a special event! Cindy, looks like that icky weather is staying south of you, will you be boating today? MK, are you home yet? ![]() Hi Kelly, Barb, Connie, Marie and all our other Shorties! Happy 4th to you! Actually I got out of going... Alyssa has what I had and is miserable so kim and the baby went with John. But now I feel like I bailed out, I hope kenney doesn't start withhis lecturing him about working too much... This coming from a man that sloughed off fpr about 10 years and sold johns dads farm that had been in the family for generations! Anyway... I will find out later from Kim what all went on. They were going to be an hour late, which to me is hilarious cuz because that's one of the things in the phone call and email that Kenney was ticked about was that people only comewhen they want and not @ the time he tells them to. He's a control freak! I'm glad that I don't have to see him althoiugh I rsvp'd for 3 adults and 1 child so I'm sure he won't be happy about that either! Ahhh parents... Ya gotta love them!

Have a few hours until 'real' fireworks, been shooting off some of our own here for now, but holding off for dark for the rockets and stuff as they look better in the dark.
And yes Deb, 'good' fireworks are illegal here too, but we live out in the middle of nowhere and no one cares. And neighbors enjoy the show rather than call the county! LOL. We have to drive out of state to get rockets and stuff. Cindy, it wasn't a very 'summery' day here either, but that huge clump of rain has stayed south of us all day and it's just been cloudy and cool. Still might hit us though. And the radar looks like MK will be driving right through it to get home. Ew. Ange should be at the wedding by now. They're calling for me out at the patio, BBL |

Yep; MK was driving through rain; just like her trip OUT east.....
DH and I had a nice ride on the bike; then a cat nap. Then about 3:30 I decided that if tomorrow MIGHT be nice enough to do something; I had better get groceries, so went to McDs for a SF FF iced latte as my incentive and headed to the grocery store........so that's done! DH and I had nice big salads and I just got off the phone with the cable company as our internet was down.......... Had a bad ethernet cord! Another problem solved! No fireworks for us - we are party poopers - and I am already annoyed that my dear friend and neighbor's son is shooting them off continually..... ![]() ![]()

The girl at work wasn't mad at me. I just detected a tone on facebook PMs and because the women who causes her to cry was back with me when she complained about CA I thought I got wrapped into it. I hugged CA and made her feel better about herself.
Work was crazy busy. They replaced me with two nurses and a tech. I struggled all day but got through. We were supposed to go out to dinner but DS invited our dear friend Beth and our single friend Jim over for dinner. Jim is young in his 30s and needs to find someone. Beth is a widow and both are friends from our running group. My husband cleaned, shopped and cooked. I cleaned up. We all sat and watched A Capital Fourth when they did the replay. My friend Cynthia is a manager with the National Symphony and next year I am going to see if I can get the VIP tickets from her so we can go and sit up front. I have only been once and you have to get down there so early just to sit far away for many hours. Then the concert starts to end and the fireworks start and you need to move to truly see them well. Becky, glad you didn't go. I totally missed what is happening with John's job. Ange, hope the wedding was good. when do you go home. MK, you home yet?? Cindy, a night in at home is always nice. We did the night in but had company. Kaye, Fireworks aren't illegal in Virginia so people go there and bring them back here. When do you go to VA? Marie, Barb, Kelly where are you ladies. Off to run 13 |

Morning!
Thankfully, the fireworks in the hood didn't last into the wee hours - our poor dog was NOT happy! Up early and the deck is cleared, scrubbed and drying - DH decided we need to stain the deck today! After that bike or boat? Who knows......I am off to the Y when it opens at 9.Debbie - sounds like a nice dinner last night with your friends...... Busy week ahead which includes one day at work. Looking forward to getting many more things done around here.......DD21 will probably be totally moved out by the weekend......which in a way is good! I have a good friend coming in two weeks to visit, and now she will be able to sleep in a bedroom as opposed to the office room in the basement! ![]() Happy Sunday all! |

Morning!
Yes - we got home yesterday, but after all that sitting, I couldn't imagine sitting at the computer! DD is moved in - adorable room! (I'll post apartment pics tomorrow!) - and one roomie is there. The other one should arrive today. Syracuse is a lovely town. And easy to get around in - thanks for the great directions Deb!! We had dinner with friends from 16 years ago that live there and they've promised to "adopt" DD. The neighborhood is a little scary, but she's a big girl now and it'll be fine. Yes, I had teary moments. It's like you all said - so different when they're not right there . . . . but my coping mechanism is to pretend she's at camp for six weeks. I'll just mark it off the calendar like they do in prison movies! ![]() Quote:
Good article on your DH! Sounds like an amazing place! I want to move in! Quote:
Go ahead and cry. You'll feel better. I wish you lived closer! Even DH said "I can't believe we left her there!" When I said we could go back and get her, he said that it was where SHE wanted to be and we had to respect that. I hate "mature" people! ![]() Sigh. My biggest fear is that she's going to find a job and settle on the east coast - a very real possibility. But no need to worry about it now! I've planned a project for the 6 weeks she'll be gone and lots of lunches with friends. I hope it helps the time pass more easily! Kaye - LOVE the new hair! Did you shoot off fireworks? It was too wet here - postponed until tonight! Becky - feel better? Kelly - can I come and visit you!? I'm easy! ![]() DS20 was a hero while we were gone: Fairview Pool lifeguards become lifesavers

YAY! MK!
Can't get the article! Repost or cut and paste please! I am happy for my DD too - it's just not easy as you know, when you spend alot of time with them, do lots with them and they they aren't quite as accessible! I love your DD's bedroom! Are there more pics? ETA: NEVERMIND - I searched for the article myself!!!! He is a hero!!!!!ETA - AGAIN - and DS16 got a mention too!!! ![]() Why didn't you tell us???? Herald & Review (Decatur, IL)
July 3, 2009 Section: News Page: A3 Fairview Pool lifeguards become lifesavers, receive board’s praise Woman, 31, apparently had suffered seizure HUEY FREEMAN H&R Staff Writer DECATUR - Fairview Pool lifeguards were honored at the Decatur Park District meeting Wednesday, after they saved the life of a 31-year-old woman who was found floating face down the previous week. District Director Bill Clevenger said he was so proud of the young lifeguards. "You don’t know how they’re going to react," Clevenger said. "When they react so exceptionally, it is a really great feeling. It is comforting to know you have such exceptional young people." The pool was jammed with children and families, on one of the hottest days of the year, when the lifeguards heard the blast of a whistle, signaling that someone needed immediate help. As some lifeguards ran toward the center of the pool, they heard a second whistle blast, signifying that someone was unconscious. Cody Acree, 19, saw the woman, lying face down in front of his chair. He asked nearby swimmers to tap on her. When she did not immediately respond, Acree jumped into the water, flipping the unconscious woman onto her back. "Cody looked to see if she was breathing. She was not breathing," recalled lifeguard Alyssa Vieth, 22, of the incident that took place about 1:30 p.m. June 25. With hearts racing, the corps of lifeguards swung into action. Vieth raced through the crowd to retrieve the backboard, plunging into the pool to place the victim on it and pull her out. She checked for a pulse but found none. Acree and Vieth performed CPR together, with Acree compressing her chest as Vieth shot two quick breaths into her mouth. When Chip Thompson, 20, arrived with an oxygen tank, Vieth switched to oxygen, counting loudly between compressions. After about five compression/ oxygen combinations, the victim opened her eyes. "I looked down, and she was blinking and looking around," Vieth said. "So we put her in the rescue position, on her side (so her airway would remain unobstructed)." Recreation supervisor Jamie Davis said she believed the compressions cleared the woman’s airway. It is believed that the woman had suffered a seizure. She was transported to a hospital by ambulance and later released. Davis said her lifeguards train intensively before the season, emphasizing scanning every part of the pool, with weekly refresher sessions. Thompson and Vieth, who were serving as managers June 25, credited all the lifeguards for performing in an outstanding fashion. "Every guard did exactly what they were supposed to do," Thompson said, adding that some cleared the pool, while others controlled the crowd. "Cody was awesome, because he saw her," Vieth said. "We’d much rather you look stupid going in for someone that’s not drowning than be wrong." Other lifeguards commended for their actions during the incident were Brittany Childress, Alicia Elam, Kayla Henneberry, Blain Powell, Aspen Sprague and Evan Thompson. hfreeman@herald-review.com 421-6985 Copyright, 2009, Herald & Review, Decatur, IL |

Glad you are home safe MK! We missed you!
Yes, cut/paste the article about your hero son, your 'session timed out' there! And BIG hugs to my short friends who are 'empty nest sad' right now. I'm proud you raised strong, independent women who CAN move out on their own! ((((hug)))) Becky, glad circumstances worked out you didn't have to go. Worked out for the best! Deb, watching the capitol fireworks on TV has always been a better choice than fighting the crowds to actually be there! The fireworks in the next town over were deluxe as usual, then we came home and had a little show of our own. Even though I'd had a nap, I was still very tired. It's been a long week. DH wants to go play tennis this morning before anyone gets there. It's sunny and trying to get warmer. Supposed to be nicer, but might have some storms move in later. Not sure what else is planned for today. Relaxing I hope! |

Nice to have you back MK. There are parts of Syracuse that haven't aged well. so much has been abdondoned. sad to see. There are places you didn't see that are so pretty.
I need to shower off the salty sweat from my run. Then I need to go grocery shopping, do laundry, clean out my fridge, empty dishwasher and pick youngest up from work. Today is my son Billy's 27th birthday. My husband is taking him to the golf tournement. I hope Tiger winds. My husband has tickets and some club at the 18th green they can go in from his work. I wish I was there. There is also a picnic for my marathon training today but I really don't have time to go an do what I need and pick up youngest. I really could use a nap and may try to fit one in today too. |

Billy!! ![]() All towns are like that! We did lot of driving around. Most of Syracuse is very pretty! Cindy - sounds like a good week! And you still have DD19 at home! Feel lucky! I want to clean out the attic (big project), clean up DD22's room (and all the stuff she left lying around all over the house while she was packing - small project). That might be enough for the 6 weeks! I already have 2 lunches and a brow wax set up for this week! ![]() |

![]() To your son Billy today Deb!Hope he has a great day. Your week coming up sounds great Cindy! MK, attic cleaning doesn't sound like as much fun as Cindy's week! It was actually lovely here today, sunny and 70s. After I posted here, DH and I went up and played some (bad) tennis and then went out to breakfast, without the girls because they didn't wake up yet! Too bad! Just woke up from a bit of a nap, was still tired from our busy week, but felt guilty sleeping during one of only nice days we've had in a while. This week I hope to go through the outgrown girls clothes in the garage as I've found a cousin with two girls two years apart that thinks 'sister outfits' are cute! I'd been waiting to find someone to give them to for years, I hope there is still useable stuff out there. Lots of darling matching outfits, but I've found some people dislike dressing their girls alike , I think it looks adorable!I'm having coffee again ![]() |

I'm so tired, Mom spent the night for Gracelynns baptism and I don't sleep well when she's here. She sleeps in the living room on out lazyboy and we have s sunken living room. I'm always afraid she's going to forget about the stap down and fall in the dark. We keep the bathroom light on all night for light where she is stepping up but I'm always afraid she'll forget and stumble.
Gracelynn and a little boy were baptised today. Fr Tom took her around (they do the baptisms in the vestibul at the baptismal font) and the little boyas father carried him so the elderly that didn't go out for health reasons can see the little ones. Alyssa was so good, kim hasn't been to church since she started massage svhool and then she was sick with morning sickness so I didn't expect Alyssa to do well at all. I was sooo proud of her! Maybe there's hope for her yet. Lol. Mom finished the knitted afghan, when she started it she would only do 1 row at a time cuz her left side was still so week and her hand would cramp, then she was excited when she made it to 3 rows. She finished it yesterday, stayed up til 3 a.m. And had 3 rows left to do and she finished it yesterday before she went to my cousins (the one who lost his mom in the accident) for the 4th of july cookout he always has her for. So... Now I'm tired, John went to work after the party to weld some parts. He's taking off tomorrow to get his passport for his Canada fishing trip and our license plates, Tuesday is his 51st birthday, lucky duck! BBL to see what everyone is doing. Oh yeah... Happy Birthday, Billy! And "were proud of u" to Chip! Ruby"s season premier starts tonight @ 8, its on the Style network, she just got under 400 pounds @ the end of last season and she's lost 100 pounds so far. From Savannah, GA and I love her! |
