WENDY CHANT CRACK THE FAT LOSS CODE FOR JUNE 29, 2009

Welcome to the Code Cracker Challenge Board!!!

Please look over this post for helpful links and suggestions!

This is a continuation of the Wendy Chant “Crack the Fat-Loss Code” WOE Challenge Board! Please refer to prior challenge threads and the Other Diets board for general diet information and pick up the book, "Crack the Fat-Loss Code" for full diet information, guidelines, cycling schedules, sample menus, menu logs and more!

Whether you are just starting with the Cycle 1, Week 1 Carb Deplete or you are somewhere along the way, jump on in!! There are people at all levels of the Wendy Chant Way in here. This is a great group of helpful people who will be a great resource and support group for you.

Remember to weigh and measure yourself or select a pair of slacks to judge your losses by – you can choose whether you want to report your stats to the group or not … up to you … but you definitely need a measure of your progress.

Since we have so many levels, it's helpful when you ask questions or claim braggin' rights, if you mention in your postings what cycle, week and day you are on! Especially since the first weeks do have some restrictions that the latter weeks don’t.

Be sure to post tips and such too – especially if you’ve already been doing CTFLC for awhile now! And don't forget to share your menus! That is helpful for others, but also a good measure for others to help you should you encounter any problems yourself!

This is the place to share your weight loss successes, your personal story, your mistakes, grab some support, give some support ... whatever it is. We're here for you and each other. It really is a great group
Sooooo, how 'bout we get Crackin'?! LET'S DO THIS!!!

Crack The Fat Loss Code - Recipes

~CRACKERS LEARNING TO CRACK THE EXERCISE CODE~

This challenge is based on the 8-week program from "Crack the Fat Loss Code" by Wendy Chant. This challenge is open to any and all “Code Crackers” who are at any Cycle, any Week of the CTFLC program, whether it’s Cycle 1, Week 1 or Cycle 4, Week 8 or somewhere in between, and to those who are curious to watch and learn.

In brief, the 8 week program is divided into four cycles.

Cycle 1: Carb-Deplete Cycle – WEEK 1
This is the toughest week! For 7 days you will be restricting certain foods – mostly carbs – in order to manipulate the glycogen stored in the muscle. During this cycle you’ll be shutting off the body’s dependence on sugar and also teach it where to find the fat stores for energy! This week you will be counting carbs very closely so your veggies are somewhat limited and fats are more focused on the good fats. But, if you carefully follow the cycle you will never have to count carbs again!

Cycle 2: Macro-Patterning Cycle – WEEKS 2-4

Now you’ll move into what is called the Macro-Patterning Cycle. This is where you begin to slowly re-introduce carbs into your life, teaching the body to burn fat while slowing down the adaptive response. During week 2, you will begin to bring most of the foods that you consume regularly back into your daily meals. You will see less rigidity in the meal plans—and more substitutions. For best results, it is recommended that you continue to abstain from alcohol on carb-up days during Week 2. During Week 3, you will have two carb-up days, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. After this week is the best time to add in sweets and alcohol on your carb-up days.

*There are 3 kinds of days in Cycle 2.

Baseline Days

This is where you are teaching your body to adapt. You will be taking in the basic nutrients your body needs through proteins, you’ll take in good fats, but you’ll be adding in one starchy food at two different meals in your day, so long as you eat them before 3:00 p.m.

Carb-Down Days

These are days where you will have a more minimal starch intake to force your body to use fat as an energy source. One these days you will still get your fats from good fat sources, and you will consume one starch before 3:00 p.m.

Carb-Up Days

This is where you will increase your starches to stoke the metabolic rate and give the body what it needs for repair and growth. Your last 2 meals on this day will be primarily carbs! Yes, you can splurge on those usual forbidden foods – bread, desserts, pizza and even alcohol. We call these days Food Passes and you have two of them a week, typically on Wednesdays and Sundays, but the beauty of this plan is that you can adjust these Carb Up Days as needed for special occasions, making it very convenient and totally interchangeable.

Cycle 3: Accelerated Fat-Loss Cycle – WEEKS 5 & 6

For the 3rd cycle, you will begin to pick up the pace! You will continue to follow the same types of days that you did with the Macro-Patterning Cycle, but you will change how they are cycled in order to increase the body’s use of fat stores.

Cycle 4: Maintenance Cycle – WEEKS 7 & 8

The 4th cycle is all about teaching your body to reset back to a higher nutrient profile in favor of carbohydrates and fats. During this cycle you will get 2 new days – a cheat day where you can have any food you like – including any carbs you’ve missed, and you’ll also get a High-Carb Day where you have clean starches all throughout your day. If you have made your goal by this week, you will use this cycle to maintain. If you seek to continue your weight loss, you will restart your program at Cycle 2.

Let's get crackin'!!!

Okay,it's almost 8am and I'm the first poster! Wow. Everyone's sleeping in I guess. Thanks for the new thread Mary.

Today's the day I start WW but geared to Wendy's way. I think that alternating C and B days during the week will work out. Then basically doing a carb up one of the weekend days, using my extra points. I just can't get away from Wendy since limiting carbs is so ingrained in me now!

gemlinda-I saw your post about possibly combining WW with Wendy's plan also. Are you thinking along the same line I am? Alternating the amounts of carbs you eat from day to day?

Tam-Congrats to you!! I am so proud of you. Having to alter clothes,is a problem I'd love to have! I'm sure you're busy getting ready for the wedding. It's so exciting.

Penny-I don't intend to stop posting right now. I'd miss you so much! I can't believe you have to do all that baking this week. Good luck!

Carol-Hope you feel better. Nothing is worse for me than having neck and shoulder pain. It really puts me in a bad mood.

Vladis-Hey! I'm emailing you.

Jackie-That meal you described sounded wonderful. I LOVE eating foods right out of the garden. As for the wheatgrass stuff,I tried it once and could hardly keep it down! Not for me. I know lots of people who drink it for health benefits. DH used to grow the stuff and make his own juice.

Hi Sara,Cindi and Lisa!

Good Morning, all!!

It's amazing how 1 day of eating clean and some exercise can make a Monday morning feel so good. I am not going to weigh myself- it's too distracting. My 20th anniversary is next Wed. the 8th and I promised myself a month ago that I would feel good by then. Last week I had my Dr. run blood tests on all my hormones and vitamins. My B12 was so low that I have to go weekly for 8 weeks to get injections. B5,B6 also low. Testosterone in the crapper and because of a huge amount of stress, my adrenal system is super sluggish. I've started on all the supplements last Wed and I cannot believe how awesome I feel!!! SOOOOOOO glad I went to this doc!!!

Off my soap box now...
Have an outstanding day!!

Lisa

Hi Ladies!

Mary, thank you for the thread. You always come thru!

Dede - will be looking for your e-mail, my dear friend. I have been in a funk a bit (work, personal stuff, all the "wonderful" things). I agree with you on the WOE - I am just living it now but I find that I am inadvertently living it Wendy'Tosca way . I am limiting my carbs (not even missing those) and then let myself a bit (and I really mean it, "a bit") loose on Saturdays or if I meet a friend during the week. I still keep my food journal but not on line with counting calories, etc. but simply in a day-timer.

Lisa - I remember you from many many months ago when I first started lurking here . I always wanted to have your arms . I am sorry you are going thru so much stress. I also know what a vitamin deplete can do to you. A couple of years ago I experienced that myself. Then I went to Dr. Weil's website and enrolled into his vitamin program. You fill out a questionnaire and they "design" your vitamin packs for you. I love it. I don't think I had a cold since I started and my general health is much better. I am glad you re-joined the program.

Hi to Carol, Linda gemi, Sara, Jackie, Penny, Tam and all Crackers.

Well, this is the end of week 9, and this is the first time I haven't lost weight. I don't think I did anything way wrong. At according to the guidelines, plenty of water and exercise.

Oh well, maybe I'll loss more next week, except I'm going away for our anniversary for the long weekend.

New Low!!

A bit over another lb down, for a grand total of 7.75 lbs down over the past 6 weeks. Whooee!
After yesterday's weighin , which was after a carb-up, I had a feeling there would be another one as the carb bloat had to whoosh out, but was surprised it was so much.
Sorry to brag- I am so excited!!!!
My seamstress was laughing- as she was the one who altered this outfit last year. I gave her 3 outfits to do- she's very inexpensive, and it was worth it- one suit jacket will cost me all of 5$ to make it wearable again. She says she wishes she had such troubles.... I tried to give her some tips. People don't believe all the starch I eat is just 1/2 cup with lunch. But- it works.

I'm pretty much in shock, to be honest- It's been years since I've lost like this. Almost 8 lbs in 6 weeks. And it's easy. Really no cravings to speak of- I baked peanut butter chocolate squares yesterday, and trimmed the pans- everyone was noshing- I just enjoyed the smell and left it at that. DDIL brought some choc. chip cookies over, and I stuck them in the freezer for the Sabbath when I can indulge. Once the Sabbath is over- I'm done.
I feel liberated from some kind of slavery.

My neck/shoulders have been giving me a fit. I have to keep a throw on my neck/shoulders when in the house since the A/C and ceiling fans bother me. Fibro is a terrible thing to have. Yes...we have to do all we can to manage it. By the way....congratulations on the all new low!!!! That's wonderful!
I am so so grateful not to be on meds. I looked up the side effects, and prefer the FMS! I don't do well with meds in general, which is common among fibro patients.
My magnesium , Omegas, Vit. D, and B12 are my drugs of choice. I was on MSM for awhile, and it helped, but I went off and don't feel worse. Losing the weight has also been helping. Less fatigue, and less pain in general. Fat causes inflammation,so the more we can use the better.
Did you check out your D levels???????? Mine were 15- very bad- please do so when you can, as the symptoms are fibro symptoms, so it can make it worse.

I'm closer to the West Bank!!! I have a friend who gets a weekly massage for her FMS, and swears by it.

I can't even recall when I had any other bread . I have to say I am enjoying my protein smoothies with fresh fruit. They do seem to trick my mind into thinking that I am having some dessert.

I miss you all and always want to hop in but then I can't help but feel like I have nothing constructive to say and I don't want to distract the ladies from Wendy's WOE. However, miss you all
Please stay with us, Vlad- we'd miss you. Wendy has improved our eating habits, hasn't she? I just wish she never wrote Book 2. It seems to have turned off alot of us.

I have been trying to eat as close to plan as possible without following each week. I am not gaining but noe losing either. UGH!!!!!!

Lots of "LIFE" happening around here. This week I will be making not one but three birthday cakes. My DD's bday is Wed, my DMIL's in Thursday and DFIL's which was Sat. will be having a huge 60th party on Sat. and I am making his cake. i am also making some rhubarb bars/cake to take to my DD's. They are so delish! I am going to have to eat just one! Hee Hee!!! Busy week with my dear old oven. I sure hope it doesn't break on me. Boy would I be up the creek!

Lifeis good here on the farm! We are busy making fence, moving and situating equipment, etc and mowing! A ton of mowing. I mowed across the road tonight and it took me nearly 2 1/2 hours. WOW!!! I shouldv'e pushed it and really got my eart a pumping!

Well, I need to get ready for bed soon. Sleep is smethign we haven't goteen much of lately. It's starting to catch up to me.

Take Care,
Penny
WIth all that exercise you are certainly building muscle. Try shaking up your days a bit, and I am sure you will start losing a bit, as you are doing the program in a way....
What's a "DD"? I use that as Dear Daughter- I don't remember you having one- Oh- do you mean Dear Dad???

Hi, Lisa- Yup- I agree- you have great arms!
How is your D level?
I am on low dose testosterone gel( 100 mg a month )- as my DHEA is low, and that's supposed to help. It's made a big difference to my well being in general. Could be that's what's kicked in. I took B12 injections for awhile for chronic fatigue- all it did was give me black and blue hips! Long term stress probably did all this to me- lifestyle changes, and now losing weight, have really helped.

Your plan sounds excellent.
I don't thing anyone needs all those carbs, especially us "older" ladies. All they do for me is make me sluggish, bloated and hungry. It's great to have it under control.

Try downloading the Gabriel meditation- I am convinced it helps immensly! No other reason the struggle has become so much easier.

Yes, it is exciting- I am running around like crazy. I am more at ease now, after seeing the seamstress can take care of the clothes- I was worried.
We will be busier though.... DDIL's GM passed away, and she wants to spend some time with her parents, but can't stay there while her father and his sisters are "sitting shiva" (mourning) so they will be moving in here on Thursday, with their 2 sweet DDs and staying til Mon. night, after the party my mother's making the evening after the wedding. So it will be hopping here. Another DS will be coming here after the wedding Sun night and staying til Mon night with his wife and 2 DDs.
I went back to the store and tried on the suit I bought in a snug 14 for the engagement party less than 2.5 months ago, and am now a perfect 12. I haven't been in the 150's for years, and my clothes fit so much better than they ever did at this weight in the past. Thanks to Wendy and Pilates.

Hi Tam!
Congrats on your losses!!! Wow, way to go! I am so happy for you
I agree - I wish Wendy IMPROVED on book 1 - made it a bit more clear, gave us a few good recipes, etc. I do personally feel turned off. You really put your finger on it. I wonder if Gerri still pops in and reads this and what's her take on Book 2.

Good Afternoon everyone!!!

Tam congrats on your new low!!!!!! Under 160 that is so fabulous.

Hi Vladis, Dede, Linda, Oney, Mary other Linda.

I am staying at my current weight even though I am eating regular but healthy food. That is ok for me right now. Hoping when my body realizes I am not dieting it will let go of another 10 pounds. Either way, I am the same weight after a week of deplete, or eating this way. So as long as I don't gain I am fine with it.

I will keep you all posted on my progress. Just need to start exercising regularly.

Hi Tamjlm,

My D is just fine- which I think surprised the Doc a little. I think she's quite used to that particular level being low. I just know that my fatigue no longer feels like I have Mono and I have much more interest in the intensity of my exercise than I used to. I'm finishing up day 2 of week one but my tweak for this round 2 of deplete is to add 1/2 of a grapefruit with my 3 main meals. I've read some independent studies and testimonials that seem to indicate that grapefruit does have some property that assists in weight loss. I don't have anything to lose except the chub I put back on when the "It's summe!!!!!r" party I started during spring break.

Hi everyone,
I made it through vacation last week with only one cheat day on Saturday. I'm determined to conquer the fat loss code. Just thought I'd mention that on the Foreverfit website that the DVD is on sale for $55.00 in case anyone is interested. I purchased it at full price last year. Just wanted to mark my spot and say hello.

Oh, TAM, I'm so glad for you! What an encouragement you have become. I remember when you were so overloaded with "life" that staying on any WOE was a challenge for you! Way to go!

LISA, so good to hear from you again. You look great! I am adding grapefruit to my plan, too. Also, I love watermelon and decided to add it in for a carb.

Sure do miss all the gals who are now trying other WOEs, but understand. Glad this thread is continuing...

Your BMI is at a healthy level, so don't stress out too much- that's enough to mess things up.
Take care of yourself!!

I don't have anything to lose except the chub I put back on when the "It's summe!!!!!r" party I started during spring break.

Hey, Cindi- it's great to have reached a "groove" where this is part of "life", and not an impedement. I realized that that was the only way of doing it long term. It will take quite awhile to reach goal, but as long as I'm moving forward, I'm fine with it.
Next week will be tough- a dinner party every night- except for Wed. I'm not worried about the wedding- not time to eat there anyways, but the other nights.... and they start late- about 9:30 which means I'll have to eat something b4, as I have M3 at 1:30ish. I'm not that inerested in recreational eating right now, but sitting around with family and friends for 2-3 hours with food on the table will not be easy- especially if I am hungry and tired..

It's gonna be a scorcher today.... and I have a very busy day- we have a condolence visit to DDILs parents, as her grandmother passed away, then a big supermarket order, and an appointment - all at different corners of the city. All that b4 1:30- and we got a late start this morning. DS11 had a class trip yesterday and is starting late today also- but I have to get him moving b4 I leave....

Hi, evearyone! I'm in Indy!

Tam, congratulations! You are awesome, lady! I am so proud of you for hanging in there!

Dede: I know what you mean about the wheatgrass. We tried growing our own, but had real problems with mold, so buying it frozen is great for us. I do love it now, and it feels so good to drink it to me!

Anyone heard from Lindagem?

As Gabriel says.... let in "melt" away, as that's what it feels like!!!

Thanks, Sara.
Your BMI is at a healthy level, so don't stress out too much- that's enough to mess things up.
Take care of yourself!!

Good morning everyone.

I am feeling great today. Like super Mom. Got up early made scrambled eggs, bacon and toast for my step-son, Blueberry protein smoothies, with almond mile, and flax seeds for everyone else. Took my probiotic, and digestive enzymes, packed my stepson's lunch for camp. And got to work early. I am sleeping great and waking up early.

Jacki where do you get frozen wheat grass? My sister used to grow and juice her own many years ago.

Congrats again Tam. May have to congratulate you on a daily basis. Carol congratulations to you too.

Hi Cindi, Dede, Vladis, Mary, Lisa, Linda, Penny.

Sara
You sound like you're really doing great. Nothing like keeping a kid on schedule to help us keep ours. Your DH must be so happy to have him with you, and have you take care of him so well. KUTGW!!!!

No way this is going to continue- but I'm ready for that- I live from new low to new low- it would take a very long plataeu to discourage me now. Next hurdle will be the week of the wedding I want to enjoy it, but maintain my losses. Not expecting any new lows next week, that's for sure!!

I've also been wondering- where is Linda?

I was worried that I hadn't dropped any weight over the week, when I weighed myself on Sunday. Well this morning, I did it again, and I was down a pound.

I've been weighing myself every Sunday Morning, and it's been a slow gradual drop. It will be interesting what it will be next Sunday.

Hellllooooo Ladies!

Boy, I am glad to be back on here. I was in carb up heaven for the past 4 days. yuk! I felt really bloated. Feeling better today.

Tam~~so happy for you and enjoying your excitment.

Vladis~~don't even think about leaving this board.

dede~~I'm going to rid my body of the junk this week and start over next week. I haven't been to WW website yet. I lost 40lbs but gained back 30 of it. I want to sign up on line, have this support group and eat clean, like Wendy and Tosca. I don't want to miss out on fresh fruit and veggies this summer. Counting the points will help me to know that I'm eating not to much or too little and of course writing it all down again. I not sure if I'm going to follow CTFLC days or do it my way.

Sara~~yay!! sounds like you are doing ok!

Off to exercise. I need to release those good endorphins!!!! My 40 yr old cousin was operated on today for a double mastectomy. We have known for the past month and praying for her. We learned today also that my DH's Aunt has cancer of the pancreas and several tumors. We were unable to see her when we were in NY because she and her DH were at the doctors. We thought they were having routine checkups! The doctor is giving her 6 weeks. I am so sad for the family because they are so close. I don't know what his Uncle will do without the love of his life.

Hi Jackie, Penny, Cindi, Lindas, Kelley, Carol and everyone else!

THANK YOU MARY!

Linda My prayers go out to your cousin and the rest of the family.
I too am doing WW but following CLFLC, I have added fresh fruits but limit them I don't want to go overboard on them and gain the weight back that I have lost thus far. I ate to many and got bloated and very uncomfortable now I know better it is portion control for me now.
Better run and read more on the thread.
Hope you all have a great day,

Alberta

Here's the link, Sara. I had some over the weekend and I thought it was delicious! Well, if you can call wheatgrass delicious! Wheatgrass Juice, Buy, Wheat Grass Juice, Benefits of Wheatgrass Plus, those smoothies sounded wonderful!

Well, Tam, yes, at this point it wouldn't be really smart to quit, I was talking about all the time before right now, when you weren't losing, but you just kept hanging in there.

Hi everyone,

I have been reading the posts and I agree with everyone. I too wish she had just improved the first book. I restarted the first plan and although it is only Wednesday and I am only three days into it, I have lost two additional pounds.

I have been thinking that after week 2, I will modify somewhat the original program and have a B day instead of D on Wednesdays, with my little tweaks...yoghurt is OK, so is skim milk, so are nuts and almonds and a fruit instead of a starch on B days. We cannot deprive ourselves of fruits and other foods completely. The trick is to do everything with moderation and not go overboard, preferring clean, unprocessed foods and avoiding chemical foods and sweeteners.

The weather here in the Aegean has been lovely for a change. Tam, congratulations on the weight loss. It must be exciting. You are the one with the staying power.....

Hugs to everyone,

Eyre22
