We grilled up a bunch of chicken.

I also got more bell peppers and I am going to make up some greek dip to eat with it.

We bought beef and baby back ribs for tomorrow and I am going to pick a recipe out of my LC BBQ cookbook to try on them.

I hope everyone has a Happy 4th!!!!

I just ate two accidently frozen deviled eggs that had been thawed. My what a "texture" sensation that was!

There are a bunch of "old timers" on here!

Ahhhhhhhh I changed my profile to say "losing the toddler weight"... as it's not "baby" anymore.

You know Atkins seems to have gotten me two more kids and alot more weight put on. Dang Atkins babies.

It was just watermelon, not a dozen doughnuts... so let it go and keep on moving forward!

No walking yesterday. I think hubby has pushed way too much the last week and is feeling awful and in pain. So I gave the weekend off from walking. We will resume on Monday.

Not sure what the menu is today. We have some left over grilled chicken and ribs to eat up. I also have a big tub of greek dip to eat too. Think I might go get some more salad stuff at Sam's Club since our farmers market was not going yesterday during the 4th holiday.

Hold strong ladies!!!!

You know what ladies?

I think I am going to make fitting into a size 16 my actual xmas goal. I am currently a size 24 pants. Now I will be happy if I "only" get to 18... but hell I think I am going to make that my "official" goal, no matter how much I weigh!

OK 16, watch out... here I come!!!!

WOE: Lowcarb
Start Date: July 07, 2009 restart. again.
Can I join in? I have 2 girls ages 7 and 3. I've been really struggling with my diet for a while and need all the encouragement I can get. I am a size 14 right now and my goal is to be back to a size 6/8 (like when I lost 47 pounds on Atkins previously). Christmas seems like a good time frame for the weight I need to lose. I am going to restart induction tomorrow and try to get the scale moving in the right direction.

I just need to figure out how to eat unprocessed, organic lowcarb and be able to afford groceries. Luna, I'm interested to hear how you are incorporating Nourishing Traditions/organic/natural foods into your lowcarb WOE. The times I did Atkins successfully, I had no problem eating fast food burgers, regular bacon, conventional produce, factory farmed eggs and dairy, etc. Over the past several years, I have gotten to the point where I will not eat any of that, so I think that has been a major factor in why I can't stick with Atkins for more than a few days. It's just so hard to find something I can eat! I'm going to really try this time. I don't want to be a fat mom this Christmas!

Ok, so I made it through the 4th of July weekend even with company, but I did have a few drinks.

I don't weigh myself much at all, but my pants are a little looser and my hubby said the shirt that I wore yesterday really showed off how I am losing. I tend to wear really baggy clothes due to trying to cover up the weight and be comfortable. I am looking forward to not having to have that as a priority when I get dressed anymore. I want to buy an item of clothing not on the clearance rack. I always have because what's the difference, it won't look good anyway.

I don't want to be a fat mom this Christmas!!

Can I join you too? I'm desperately trying to lose this last 40 lbs (before Christmas would be great!) and would love some other Mom's to talk to. I kind of follow South Beach but I'm gluten free so I pretty much stick with no grains/starches. I try to eat as natural and organic as possible.

Adrielle, it sounds like we are trying to eat the same way and I'm also size 14 hoping to get into a 6/8.

Hello. Well I can say Dr. Atkins did say if you could eat organic that was best!

Well there is a whole section on "NT on a budget" in the NT book. Some other things...

Fermenting non organic veggies and dairy.

Sticking more to chicken and less beef when you can't go organic/grass fed.

Trying to buy a 1/4 or 1/2 side of grass fed beef, even if you have to sell something or juggle.

Make your own Kombucha.

Lot's of bone broths.

Growing a garden or at least a couple of pots of lettuce.

Farmers Markets... hit at end of day and look for last minute sales.

Sam's Club and Costco sell many various organic items, some even have grass fed meats.

Tillamook cheese (get in bulk at Costco or Sam's for better price). The cheese is mostly grass fed, not perfect but close.

Email all organic companies and ask for coupons. Sign up with Mambo Sprouts. I get alot of Organic Valley coupons that way.

Watch like a hawk for any Organic Valley butter sales... when I see the "cultured" orgainc butter or their "limited edition grass pastured" I try to stock up and put in the freezer. That is when the coupons will help! But in the end even crap butter is better than the near plastic margarine!

I buy large quantities of coconut oil when I have the $$ to. It lasts forever. Wait for a sale on Tropical Traditions and get a gallon or two.

Olive oil. I just look for EVOO and cold pressed... organic is normally 2-4 times the price, so I make sure is is not chemically extracted. Look for sales, stock up.

Awhile back I bought a case of Bernard's gelatin. I add it to many things (even rice), for the "protein spareing" effect when I can't use bone broth.

Buying various seaweeds is not too hard and can be put in things.

I buy ONLY bulk sea salt.

etc...

Sometimes you just can't buy grass fed or organic, so you need to do what many others in the world have to do and just do the best you can at that moment and make all the "sides" help support your health too!

Hi all you soon to be slim moms!

Ok so I said I wanted to join you guys and then I went MIA for a few days. 1My computer died and I have only had it for a month! Luckily my techie husband fixed it!!! So I am back...down to 179, survived a trip to the beach with two of the slimest moms I know..lol. Stayed on track. And even more pumped to continue on this journey.

Hello to Adrielle and Beth, would love to hear more about some organic ideas that are affordable, please share your wisdom! Looks like we are all wanting to lose about the same amount...stats 30 pounds but 40 would be awesome!

Happy Monday all,
Angie

Hey Luna,

I saw that you mentioned Coconut oil and I had seen another poster on another thread mention coconut cream. When is it better to cook with coconut oil as opposed to evoo and what is coconut cream, one poster acted as if she ate it straight. I am very limited on healthfood stores but there is a whole foods store in Gainesville I believe which is about an hour away and we are there every few months for the kids dentist appts.
Just curious, I know an acquaintance once told me she used coconut oil on her body...i think.

I also decided the weight was hurting me MORE than the temporary amount of "conventional" grocery items I was going to have to eat to get it off (until my temp. budget crunch is over). Especially since we can do alot of the other "side" items.

Another thing is to rework the budget for more grocery money, sell things (like doing Dave Ramsey and getting "gazelle" on your food ), bartering, trading time at a farm or CSA, raising own meat if you can/have space, narrowing down what you will eat... alot of variety costs alot, etc...

You can do it!

Angie... way to go on 179!!!!!!

Coconut oil has a higher smoke temp than evoo. For some it is just a personal preferance on taste.

Coconut cream concentrate is all of the coconut blended up, not just the oil. It is white and thick and slightly gritty. It does taste like coconut and many people like to scoop some out and eat it on a spoon. But since the meat and oil is all mixed up, you dont use it to cook things in but rather to add to dishes.

Canned coconut cream (full fat, nothing added except maybe guar gum) is AWESOME TOO! It's the fatty coconut milk in a can. It seperates into a THICK white cream on top and a watery coconut milk on the bottom. Some drink it, some "whip" the cream on top, hubby puts it in coffee, I LOVE to make curry out of it!!

Chicken + can of coconut milk + curry powder and salt. Bake in oven. Mmmmmm!!!!! Coconut melts and makes a "curry" gravy/sauce that is good over lentils or cooked veggies!!!

Hi everyone! Beth, it's great to have someone here with the same starting point and goals. Wow, thanks so much for all the great ideas, Luna. How is everyone doing today? What are you eating? So far I've had coffee, 1 hardboiled egg, and 2 organic uncured beef hot dogs with a little shredded raw organic cheddar and dijon. I think I need to stick with meat, eggs, and cheese for a day or two and then I'll add my veggies back in. I hope everyone is having a good day!

Sorry I've been MIA. We went to the lake this weekend for the 4th & we're leaving Sat for a week at the beach. I've been really busy, cleaning, organizing & packing.
I'd love to be in a size 10 by Christmas. I'm cramming in a 16 right now so I think it's doable.
I plan on trying to stay on plan while I'm at the beach. I will be drinking alcohol but I'll drink low carb. I don't care if I lose weight while I'm there I just don't want to gain.
Looks like everyone is doing great, keep it up . Monica

Hi Everyone!

I was hoping that I could join your group as well.

My story is I lost about 150 lbs over the course of about two years with with Atkins nine years ago and then I kept it off until 3 years ago when I had my daughter. I have just been gaining and gaining since I had her and I am so done with it. I am now 100 lbs up again and I just feel terrible and unhealthy. I don't want this to be an example for my daughter and I want to feel like me again.

So, I started fresh again over the weekend. I know how hard this road is... I thought I had conquered it after all those years at a stable weight and now here I am again. Having some support/cheerleaders would be great.
