Speaking of 3 year olds, mine has been SO hard to get to bed lately. Seriously, it took me 2 1/2 hours to get her to finally go to sleep tonight. I am pulling my hair out here. Three is tough!

Today was kind of weird for me. I was not hungry at all in the morning, so I just had my coffee. Then I decided I should eat something because I wanted to go to the gym and knew I wouldn't have energy to do anything if I didn't eat, so I had 1/2 of a leftover sirloin and 1 egg. I could barely finish it, it was really doing nothing for me. I went to the gym around 6:30 and did 1 mile on the treadmill, 3 miles on the elliptical, a total of 45 minutes. I started feeling kind of woozy after that. My cheeks and chest were so red it looked like someone had punched me repeatedly. Then I came home and felt really nauseous and freezing, had to lay down, etc. I was finally able to cook up some chicken with Frank's hot sauce/butter with bleu cheese dressing and started feeling better. I think I under-ate and then overdid it at the gym. Maybe my blood sugar dropped too low? Anyway, I will try not to make that mistake again, it wasn't fun.

Thats great Kyra!!

Adrielle- I have been there before, completely freaked me out. Glad your feeling better! I make it a priority to eat something before I exercise, nothing to heavy but something.

I am doing well about to go make me a bacon salad for lunch, lol. Have a great LC day!

Wow, way to go, Kyra! Watching the numbers go down on the scale is so motivating.

VGrace, yeah, I'm definitely going to make it a point to eat something before exercise. I don't want to feel that way again. DH is a paramedic and he has gone on calls where that has happened to people at the gym and they passed out from low blood sugar. I don't want to be THAT person!

Today I haven't eaten yet and I'm feeling hungry but nothing sounds good. Actually, your bacon salad sounds good, but I don't have bacon or salad in the house. I'm thinking I might saute some spinach and garlic with lemon. I haven't had veggies in a while, so I think my body is telling me to eat some.

Oh, and I forgot to add that I was UP 1 pound today. I'm not too concerned, just annoyed to see the higher number. I'm sure it's just a little fluctuation.

So, I was up half the night because I apparently picked up the stomach flu somewhere. I have a question for all of you... I have struggled with this issue before and never found a good solution.

If you have been sick, have an empty stomach and you have that lightheaded, woozy feeling and you know you need to try to get a little something in you, is there a good low carb option? Really I just want to go get a sip of watered down apple juice or some crackers but both are carb heaven. I am sitting here in the flu fog feeling horrible and I know I need to have something because I am to the dizzy point but I also don't want to throw myself off after I have been doing so well. The thought of eating meat, cheese, etc makes me want to be sick again.

Yes, I realize this is a particularly cheerful post. Sorry. Ideas?

Been there! The best thing that I have found and it works pretty well is to take half of a low carb tortilla with just a little tiny bit of peanut butter. My grandma gave me the idea and it worked well. Hope you feel better.

Welcome, Shadesofgray! I am also a huge Atkins believer. For me, it is the only way of eating that works and makes me feel good. Definitely check out one of his books, although there is a lot of info on this site and others about the basics of the plan.

Sharon, portion control is a big issue with me too. I am kind of "all or nothing", so what really works to help me lose the weight is getting deep into ketosis so I can control my appetite and only eat when I'm truly hungry. I feel like I don't have that sensor in me that tells me that I'm full, so eating until I'm satisfied has never worked for me.
Yup, portion control AND "all or nothing". Do I know you? I know all about both those things. Time for a change though!

Welcome to all you new peoples! You'll like it here.

Kyra, before long, those things you are looking at and craving will actually repulse you.

Lori, 3 year olds can be damanding because they know what they do and do not like and want. Independence; urhhhh. It's tough with some kids. They're all different. And special. I feel for ya. They know how to push all your buttons.

Heidi, 20 pounds gone forever. Keep up the good work!

Note: When you get the craving for chips, etc: place sliced pepperoni on napkins on a paper plate and microwave until crispy. About 80 seconds but watch them cuz microwave ovens vary. Almost any sour cream dip is low or no carbs. Nice quick treat, but watch out cuz everybody is going to want to eat them!

Busy day today. Finished painting signs for the parade tomorrow. Going to shower and get dolled up to go to a dinner buffet at a very fine restaurant/supper club. There's a 3 hour session on the economy by an editor from Wall Street Journal. It's being put on by Americans for Prosperity.
Tomorrow will be busier yet if we go on the motorcycle run and drive the toddlers and baby. That's about 7 hours in the van! From there, we'd get our places for the parade. After that is the fireworks. Whew..........hope I last.

Afternoon ladies!

Lori P... uh I think 9 out of 10 3 yo's are like that every single hour of every single day! You should have seen mine today!

Plus add in the whole she is 3 and you are not her mama (unless mom is completely 100% out of the pic and she does not even know her)... it gets complicated! Seriously though... EVERY 3 yo is picky... try not to sweat it... she is just being a 3 year old!

I am not feeling well today and think I might be coming down with something. My throat hurts a bit when I swallow too. Ugh.

Gk-Sorry to hear your sick! Would you be able to handle some chicken broth? Or sugar free jello? You will want something very light for your tummy.

I have a few LC recipes:

Easy tomato beef soup
1/4 to 1 1/2lb ground beef
1 (14 1/2oz) can of diced tomatoes
2 cans (14 1/2lb beef broth)
brown the meat, and the liquids heat and serve.

Sorta Chicken soup:
6cups chicken broth
1 can(6 1/2oz) mushrooms
1 can cut aparagus
1 boneless chicken diced into small pieces
sliced scallions
1/4cp dry sherry
1tblsp soy sauce
pepper

place everything in a pot add the chicken and let everything cook for about 10-15mins so you cook the chicken.

I will BBL!

Luna and GK, I'm sorry you're feeling sick. I just got over something myself. I ended up going to the doctor because my tonsils were swollen for 2 weeks and I was concerned that I had strep throat. To help my throat, try to boost my immune system, and stay low carb, I cooked up some chicken soup with a ton of fresh garlic and freshly grated ginger. It was great.

Today I've had very little appetite again. I had a 3 egg omelet with cheese earlier. No gym tonight, but I want to go jump on the trampoline in the backyard for a few minutes just to do something. I am leaving on a long road trip tomorrow and I'll be gone for a week. I'm determined to stay on plan, but I know it might be tough. I will be packing a bunch of stuff for the car so we don't have to stop and eat junk.

Good morning, all! I am only back down 1/2 pound this morning, but I'm pretty sure it's just a little water retention from TOM. I am feeling thinner overall. I'm getting ready to leave on my trip for a week, so I'm kind of nervous about getting the exercise and food I need while I'm away.

I have started eating only when I'm hungry, which is usually once or twice a day. I can't believe how my life isn't controlled by food anymore. I remember this from the other times I've been on Atkins, but it never ceases to amaze me when it happens. Before, I was literally thinking about food all day. I didn't eat much refined sugar or white flour, but I could eat 1/2 a box of whole grain crackers with cheese, or 4 slices of whole wheat toast with butter and jam, or a whole package of green beans roasted in the oven. Anything with carbs, I would overeat, even "good" carbs. It is so freeing to not feel constantly hungry.

I hope everyone has a great day! I might not be able to check in for a couple days, so have a good weekend, ladies!

Butterflymama: I hope you have a good trip, Good thing your appetite has shrunk alot mabey you won't be so tempted on the road.

LunaAshling: I hope you have a better day, don't let yourself get too down, thats when we make little mistakes, Im sure your doing wonderful. You are a big encourager on here, If there is anything we can encourage you on please let us know..

well I came through my tubal ok, im just really sore, and they scratched my ulvua when they put the breathing tube down my throat, I also had an allergic reaction to the pain killer they gave me, it made my toungue and lips swell and my throat, so my ulvua is touching my tongue which is very annoying. But its sore and I can only eat really soft stuff so its maily boilded veggied with cheese. I did eat 3 scrambled eggs with a tad heavy cream and 1/2 slice cheese, it was really soft. I won't be excersizing for a while till my stitches come out. So hopefully ill continue to loose just with the eating.

Hope everyone is doing good.

Hi Everyone! Sorry I've been MIA. I've been sicker than a dog the past few days with a fever and sore throat. It's been a rough couple of days...No rest for the weary when you have 9 kiddos.

I was thrilled this morning to see that I lost two lbs this week. I ate a lot more carbs than I should have so I was really surprised that the scale went down.

Get well quick Lori!

Hello everyone --

Add me to the list of parents with unpredictable three-year olds. I won't say she's picky, exactly, because for three she has a pretty broad range of likes (her favorite food on earth is salmon sashimi), however she certainly does have days when she turns down her usual choices for no apparent reason. Her issue is not one of pickiness, but of grazing. She is just in the 10 percentile for height and weight...she will wander off and forget her food if I don't keep her on task...and then want treats later! I used to let her eat when and as much as she wanted, on the premise that I didn't want to teach her to always clear her plate and override her natural "I'm full" instincts ... until I took her for her annual doctor visit and she had gained just one pound her second year. Now, while I still feed her any time she asks, I do try to keep her interested at meal times.

GK -- I hope you are feeling better. I know exactly what you mean about wanting carb comfort foods that won't unsettle your stomach when you're sick. I have the same issue, to a lesser extent, in the mornings. If you're past induction and okay with dairy, I find a shake made with whey protein powder, some heavy weight cream (a couple of tablespoons) and some strawberries and crushed ice is the most palatable. Another comforting option is some Fage with a touch of sweetener and a sliced berry or two, or a squirt of low carb sugarless flavored syrup.

Good Morning ladies!

Thanks everyone, yesterday was a little better and today is much better. I did lose another 5 lbs last week so that helps brighten the day as well.

Rhonda and Adrielle, I had a little chicken broth with garlic and ginger Friday night and that went ok so I had a little piece of LC tortilla with peanut butter. Thank you!! I really felt better once I had something in me again.

Kyra, I can't imagine a place that I would more not want to be than a restaurant full of food and impatient people when you feel like that. Way to hang in there like a champ.

I feel for you Beth, I will say that Adrielle's simple soup idea, if you have those few ingredients was good and went down surprisingly well.

Fireflyfaster, at the moment I am trying to stay between 20-30 whole carbs (not net) so I haven't been making any whey shakes but they are my favorite breakfast if I am going to go work out. I just can't get myself to eat a bunch of heavy protein in the morning either. I generally make mine with about a quarter cup of light coconut milk instead of heavy whipping cream and I keep blueberries frozen so I can grab a few and toss them in. I am going to go on Fitday and compare and see which combo ends up coming out lower.

Which whey powder does everyone prefer? I have been using Designer Whey, which is fine, but I generally get it from Meijer and they haven't had anything but the chocolate recently.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Diana

Quick follow up. I entered the whipping cream/coconut milk and strawberry/blueberry whey shake variations in Fitday to see how they compared. I didn't find lite coconut milk as a pre-entered food so I grabbed it out of my kitchen and manually entered the info. I use the fruit and the milk at 1/3C so those are the amounts that this is based off of:

Lite Coconut Milk - 2 carbs, 50 calories
Heavy Whipping Cream - 2 carbs, 246 calories

Strawberries - 3.5 carbs, 15 calories
Blueberries - 5.7 carbs, 24 calories

Interesting.... I think I will continue to use my coconut milk and switch to strawberries instead of blueberries.

Gk-Where do you get your coconut milk? I have always wanted to try it with something. Glad your feeling better!

firefly-I usually have a coffee protein shake in the morning cause I am not a breakfast eater,it makes me sick if I eat early. Thats a good recipe I think I am going to make that today!

Beth-Sorry you have been sick! But congrats on the weight loss!!

Doing well today, yesterday I went over my carbs a little.I had some cherries.Ha.They were just so red and delicious.I will not do that again for a long time cause they are kinda high in carbs. 15carbs in 1 cup of cherries. I ate about 1/2cp. O well at least it wasn't donuts. lol.
Haven't weighed myself in almost a week..I think. I may attempt it tomorrow.

Have a great LC day ladies!

Have a great weekend ladies!!
It was and in and out procedure, I had to be there at 6am they took me back at 7am and I was out by 9:30am. It didn't take that long. I was really nervous cause the last time I was put under for surgery, I came to and opened my eyes and felt them drilling through my gums, I had broken my jaw when I was 17 in a car wreck and had my mouth wired shut. So they made sure they gave me plenty to stay under. I think the only reason I had a breathing tube was because of my asthma. Cause my sister didn't have to have one. But today is day 3 and im feeling better. Im still sore, but its cause I cant take anything stronger than Ibprophen. I hope yours goes smoothly too.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

I'm not sure what my weight is. I went to the doctor on Friday. She wanted me to fast and go in on Saturday to have blood work done. She thinks I have diabetes. I hope not. Does anyone here have diabetes?

I'm still on the plan though.

VGrace, I prefer to get coconut milk at Trader Joes but I can also find it in most grocery stores if they have an asian foods section. There is a pretty substantial difference between regular and light coconut milk so look for the light. I've used this for quite a few things. It doesn't have a pronounced coconut flavor but it gives a little creaminess to whatever you are making. I have used it to make cream soups and sauces instead of heavy whipping cream, slightly less "cream" factor but way less calories. It is also handy because I may not have heavy whipping cream in the fridge but I can always keep a can of coconut milk in the pantry.

Heidi, I was "borderline" diabetic when I was at my highest weight 9+ years ago. Some days my blood sugar read diabetic, some days it was borderline. My doctor suggested since it was close, and since diet clearly impacted it that I should look at low-glycemic diet options. That was my original reason for going on Atkins. Over time, I lost 150 lbs and my blood sugar tested normal from there on out. If I remember correctly, it took a few months on low carb with no cheating at all (I believe I was staying under 40 after induction) to see a consistent daily decrease in my levels and not long after that is was consistently normal. I can actually FEEL it creeping up again as I have gained weight back and that was one of the final straws on my saying enough is enough and getting back to business. For me, the two are hand in hand.

Even some doctors prefer low carb for their diabetic patients

Wishing everyone a nice day and hoping you who need to, feel better.

Hang in here. We'll make it. I may still be FAT at Christmas, but not OBESE!

The motorcycle run (we tagged along in van) was 7 hours long. Sore back for sure. The parade last night was an hour and a half. It was great. Didn't hang around for the fireworks. DH and I took the 7 month old and the 2 & 4 year olds home with us. They were asleep by 10:00 p.m. and us shortly behind them. Baby awoke at nearly 8 a.m. so that was nice. He woke up smiling and smooching. The other two were awake an hour later. Got them fed and dressed for the day. They went home about 10:30. I'm still straightening and cleaning from comin' and going'. Makes such a mess when we do that. DH is mowing and doing yardwork. Afterwards, I think we'll hop in the van and just go see where we end up. Have to do my mom's meds for the week first though.

Wishing you all a splendid Sunday!. Blessings and hugs from Wisconsin, where today is 70 degrees and mostly sunny.

Glad to here you are feeling better Diana!

Have been pretty busy this weekend. Active too. Walks, bike rides, anything to keep moving! Weekends are the hardest for me not to think about cheating. During the week, its not much of a problem. I bring my lunch to work that way there is no thinking about what to go get.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Tomorrow is Monday, weigh day for me. Wish me luck, I am hoping for 3lbs for the week!
