Hi guys! I'm just starting out on this and I found this thread while I was looking for information. It's good to know I'm not alone in my struggles...I have 2 teenage boys, a very hectic schedule...even in the summer. I thought that this would be much simpler than calorie counting...I'm thinking atkins???? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

I'm a big Atkins supporter, Gray. I am also a newbie on here, but I'd like to say welcome! Not only is low carb simpler than low cal, to me it's overall a better way of life and a quicker weight loss method! If you do Atkins, you will want to get yourself the book, either Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution, or the 1972 version (called Dr. Atkins' Diet Revolution) It is a lot easier to diet this way with the support, information, and inspiration you will find in the book.

Yay, on your holding under 8 grams of carbs! I have to start keeping track again. Bad portion control here!

I was never a skinny kid but one day about 24 years ago, I wore a size 12 that was baggy.

Hi everyone! The whoosh fairy didn't visit me last night, my weight is the same as yesterday. Oh well, hoping to see a loss by next week.

Welcome, Shadesofgray! I am also a huge Atkins believer. For me, it is the only way of eating that works and makes me feel good. Definitely check out one of his books, although there is a lot of info on this site and others about the basics of the plan.

Sharon, portion control is a big issue with me too. I am kind of "all or nothing", so what really works to help me lose the weight is getting deep into ketosis so I can control my appetite and only eat when I'm truly hungry. I feel like I don't have that sensor in me that tells me that I'm full, so eating until I'm satisfied has never worked for me.

Welcome, shadesofgray! I'm a two-time loser with Atkins -- it has certainly made me slim and healthy so long as I've followed it closely. After my first 67 lb. loss I started slipping in my fourth post-loss year. I'd start by buying the book and reading it cover to cover...it's an easy read and it motivates and educates, two things you'll need from the start.

SecondTimeAround...omg fun. How far did you go? Do you still have patio furniture?

I'm down 2.6 lbs since Friday's weigh-in ... WOOHOO!

Four more ounces to ONEderland!

I'm up 1 pound. Darn. I can't complain since I lost so much the first 2 weeks. I just like seeing the scale go down every day.
I went shopping. I ate before I went, but my friends wanted to eat at Subway. Gosh, that place smells so good. It's like warm bread goodness. I just sat there and waited until they were done. It didn't bother me at all. I'm glad I ate something beforehand though.

I am also an Atkins believer Shades. I think I mentioned earlier in this thread that I lost 150 lbs. 9 years ago and maintained that weight for 6 years until I had my daughter a few years ago. I am back on Atkins to get back to the pre-baby me because I know it is a good fit for me.

Heidi, I am with you on the up a pound when you are on the downslope. I have always hated that. A trainer told me once that your weight generally fluctuates about 3 pounds in the course of the day. If I see I am up a pound when I weigh in the morning I jokingly think, shoot... should have weighed myself noon, or 4 pm or whenever I was on the other end of the 3 lbs. It is dumb, but it amuses me. :-)

I just had a very small slice of brie for a snack. It was everything I could do to not pour a glass of wine to go with it. :-)

Good morning, ladies. I am down 2 pounds today, yay! That makes a total of around 9 pounds lost (or a couple less since my starting weight was full clothed in the afternoon). I'm so happy to see progress, it really helps me keep going. I hope everyone else is doing well! Have a great day today, everyone!

Good Morning Ladies and congrats Adrielle!

Who else tracks their days on Fitday? It is part pain in the ass and part addictive to get all my info in for the day. I took measurements last week and put them all in as well so I can compare those. I never did that in the past and I had always wondered after I had lost the weight last time what the difference actually was.

I am expecting an offer letter for a new job today (they called me yesterday to let me know) and I am super anxious. Wish me luck that the terms work out because I really don't like what I am doing now and it would be nice to be excited about what I do for a living again.

Thanks and have a great day everyone!

gk, I hope you get the new job!

Cheers for all you losers. Cheers to prod those who are waiting for the whooshie fairy.

Here I am. Today. Still fat. But, I have a plan~

A girl, whose bridesmaid dress I paid for 6 years ago, is paying me back today! So DH and I are getting pool memberships for a month before the money is spent elsewhere. That should strengthen my spine and legs; I love jogging in the water.

Been having a lot of summer company. I still eat the right things, but I'm so tired from just keeping house and cooking and visiting. HELP!

Need prayers and support.

Hugs to all.

Thanks, GK, and good luck on the job! I used to use FitDay religiously, but I got a little obsessive with it, so this time I haven't used it. It is a wonderful tool though!

Sharon, that is awesome about the pool membership. Swimming is such great exercise. You will do great! Just take it one day at a time. Go to the pool for YOU, as your relaxation time to decompress. Then you'll get in the habit of going and before you know it, you will be stronger and healthier. You're doing great staying on plan with your food. Add the swimming, and you'll start to see the weight drop. You have already come so far!

Hi everyone. I am new on here but have done the low carb thing since last September. Don't always love it, but still hanging in there. I never thought I needed support with this, and found that it is nice to have people to share thoughts, struggles and everything else. (My husband is tired of hearing about it!)

Morning/Afternoon ladies!

There will be some stress that is lifted on Sept. 1st that I hope means will see greater weightloss in September.

Stress + Me = slow weight loss, even without "over" eating.

Sigh... we shall see.

I was going through some old boxes and I found a pair of size 18 Old Navy jeans still wrapped in plastic and two "ON" size 1X t-shirts (still wrapped too) that went with it.

So If I can wear those on Xmas day or have them "loose" I will be very happy! Ofcourse I want that size 16... but I will still be very happy with the 18's!!!

Adrielle.. Congrats on your loss!!

VGrace.. I am scale obsessed. I'm trying not to be this time. Last time I tried losing weight my husband had to hide the scale. I'd get frustrated if my weight went up. This time I'm hoping to just weigh every other day or something.

Luna... That chicken and feta salad in bell peppers sounds delicious. I've never tried something like that. When you mentioned the jeans and shirts still in plastic, that sounds like me. I have so many cute things to wear, but I can't fit in them... yet. We'll both get there.

GK.. I hope you get your job. Keep us posted.

Sharon.. I'm envious of your pool membership. I've always wanted to try exercise in water.

Lopez.. Welcome!! Glad you're here.

Today I'm down 2 pounds. Now I've lost exactly 20 pounds. I'm 1/5 of my way to my goal. Gosh, I hope I get there someday.

new members, Well Im doing good today Im at 15 carbs so far so ive got 5 for supper. I was thinking stuffed peppers too. But I have to look up and see how many carbs are in green bell, I like the red ones better they are sweet, but Im just in the habbit of buying green for stir fry so thats what I did. Oh well, Ill get red next time.

I have to go back up to the doctors office at 3 I went this morning at 10:30 but he forgot to check my hernia to see if they can even do a tubal. Hopefully everything will workout fine.

My 3 year old is being a pill today, im so frusterated with her. I refuse to make 3 meals so everyone can eat what they want, I told dh that if she doesn't eat what I fix then she doesn't eat Im not catoring to her selfishness. So I fixed her oatmeal this morning, cause last time she ate 2 little bags, she loved it, but this morning she didn't want it. Well with her if she doesn't eat she doesn't get cartoons, if she eats lunch fine she can watch cartoons. I just cant figure her out sometimes, she is my step daughter and I just cant peg her. But I refuse to give special treatment, I raised my kids to be respectful and do what your told and eat what your given. I believe firmly in treating all the kids the same. I feel like she is constantly getting in trouble though and I hate that, I wish she would just straighten up so we can play and have a better time. Mabey this next year will be better, she starts school next month all day, so im hopeing that will change things. Sorry I needed to vent.

Shades, I find it takes me a week of induction to not want to steal food from unsuspecting children. :-)

20 lbs down is great Heidi!

Welcome Lopez!

VGrace, I think forgetting a day is better than being borderline obsessed with Fitday like I am currently.

Way to go on the pool membership Sharon. Excercise is so much better when you get to do it with the kinds that make you the happiest, right?

Lori, I have a 3 year old that is exactly the same way. I do not prepare special meals for her, I don't tolerate the "meal drama" as I call it and it makes no difference. She refuses to eat unless she feels like it, or refuses to eat something she loved yesterday. Sadly, my mom says I was EXACTLY the same way so I have kind of resolved myself to this being miserable and not giving in for the duration. When she does eat, I make sure it is uber healthy so if she is being stubborn and she doesn't eat the next meal because she would prefer to be dramatic about it, I don't worry about it. She doesn't get a customized alternate meal. Hang in there, I know how frustrating it is.

Kyra- One thing ppl do quickly is get bored with LC thinking there is nothing to eat besides eggs and meat..we all get bored from time to time. I check out all the recipes on this board and quickly change my mind so if you ever get that 'bored' feeling with LC go to this link and it will quickly change your mind:

gk3733 & VGrace: Thanks for the support, I know Im not the only one with a difficult strong willed child, but sometimes It seems like it hu...

And yes check out the food porn site its amazing, there are so many ideas in there, I sat at the computer 4 days straight reading every page and saving pictures and recipes so i can make my own lowcarb cook book using one of my photo albums. Its helped me out tuns on food options.

kyra: what I do when I feel hungry and it aint time to eat or someone is eating something that looks really good. I just go get something that has no carbs, meat usually, and eat that. I have been making up meatballs the size of golf balls, Ill use a whole 10 pounds of hamburger meat and just have them in a bowl in the fridge, of course season them up good, but if i have a craving i just eat some of them. Also alot of times with chips and stuff its not that you want the chip for me its i want the crunch so try frying up some cheese in the microwave. Its really good, and my kids have fun with it too.
