How exciting to go to DR!!! I went to Costa Rica last month with a huge fear of the meals I'd be served since we went all several day tours that were all inclusive as well. Besides the obvious of wanting to stick to low carb, I also need to adhere to a gluten free diet so I was beyond concerned. I packed a couple of those tuna packets in my bag with some nuts before I left. When we got there, we happened to find a grocery store so we got some diet pop (i'm from chicago so I call it pop also after living in cali for about 6 years now I still can't call it soda) and headed to the place we stayed at. From there on everything was fabulous, breakfast was usually eggs, cheese, rice, beans, fruits and coffee so I just ate the eggs and cheese. For lunches, there was always some type of fresh seafood, or chicken and salad available so that made it easy and I was able to eat a lot!!! One day, I got up 4 times to refill my plate all just for lunch . Dinner was buffet style and I loaded up on salads and meats again. We were able to go out to dinner a couple nights and that was very easy as well. There was never a moment that I felt like going off plan because I had so many options at my disposal. After returning back to my parents house and vacationing there for another week I returned back to my own home weighing 3 lbs. more than I had when I left, and I lost it within 2 days so it seemed to just be water weight. Have a great time and make the best choices you can.

I don't drink alcohol at all, and consuming sugar is not an option for me so the pretty drinks didn't tempt me at all.
And ya, for the most part I drank water in the restaurants but they did offer diet drinks as well, like diet 7up, diet coke, and some diet fanta type stuff. Lots of options especially on all inclusive stuff b/c they want to be very hospitable so tourists return to them on future vacations. |
