Boot Camp Charlie - May 2009 Edition

Camp Charlie was originally started by Mack and his alter-ego Sarge as a refuge for men needing a little kick in the pants on this board.

The rules are pretty simple:

Men only (women can visit on Sundays - but be warned, we are guys and sometimes can be a bit offensive - enter at your own risk!)

NO silly emoticons. No smilies, no hugs, no Woo Hoos. Nothing

Check in as often as possible to report progress or failure. Expect some congrats on success and a possible a$$ chewing for failure.

Exercise is vital. Get off your a$$ and get active. Walk, run, bike, golf, swim, hit the gym what ever. Ask for advice if you need it.. You'll probably get it even if you don't.

Have fun with it. Light hearted banter is encouraged. We all have the same basic goal: Drop the gross tonnage and get healthy. So get after it.

Weigh in every Monday. Report On:

Previous weeks weight
Current weeks weight

On the 1st of each month report:

All time high
weight as of 1/1/2009
current weight
VFZ
total pounds from high
total pounds lost in 2009

Reporting in for May

D, I like the reminder/disclaimer that we're guys and thus might be a little rough around the edges...

Well, we're starting a new month... hopefully this one will see me drop sub-250. That number seems to have some mojo for me.

All time high: 302
Weight as of 1/1/2009: 292
Current weight: 256 as of last Monday's weigh-in
VFZ: 240-ish
Total pounds from high: -46
Total pounds lost in 2009: -36

1/1/2009 201.4

3/1/2009 198.0
3/31/2009 198.8
5/1/2009 202.2

Pretty much dropped 75lbs while here at BCC over one year and for the past 5 months been maintaining.

Last year I shed the weight, this year I'm gonna get in shape.

As long as I keep my belt to the 2nd to the last hole I'm doing good no matter which weight I bounce 5lbs up or down too.

check out my new hitch rack setup fellas, I'm all geared up to go for my first ride of the year later today:

Monday check-in

Morning, men. Hope everyone has some good progress to report.

Down 3 lbs. this week to 253 - definitely more than I was expecting. I'll take it.

A lot of walking this week, decent weight training levels but could improve. Not quite enough sleep either, gotta work on that.

Lots of romaine/spinach salads with HB eggs and blue cheese, lots of steamed broccoli with butter, veggie omelets, green bean fries with Heinz horseradish sauce damn near every night. Love those things. A few too many peanuts and a few more beers this week than usual (golf on Friday).

Totals:
Down 49 lbs. from 2008 high
Down 39 lbs. since 1/1/2009
Down 33 lbs. since starting LC induction on Valentine's Day
But most important: down 3 this week.

Couple days of lifting and light bike riding the past couple days was my exercise.

Last night was a turkey meatloaf I made...but i ate about 4 biscuits with butter. i kinda felt guilty doing it but man was it good.

Ive never been a weightlifter but now i'm really looking fwd to each time I go do it. Feeling more comfy...and I can see changes which is cool.

keep it real fellas

A bit disappointing, but I think I'm holding on to some water. I'll up my fluid intake this week and cut down on the walnuts and almonds.

Not much change, I'd still like to drop another 5-7 pounds of fat, but it's going slow.

I missed miserably on the 5% in 5 weeks, so this month, I'm going to propose a different May sub-challenge - cheat free for May. I think if I can keep on my eating plan strictly and keep up the exercise, I can get rid of these pesky few last pounds.

I'm with ya there, D. I've been doing alright, 2-3 lbs. per week for a while now with only a week or two that I didn't see at least some loss... but I'm getting antsy to see the sub-250's.

I'm at 253 right now. I'm going to buckle down with a little more exercise this week, and avoid the nuts and beer. I've been doing well with lots of salads with HB eggs and blue cheese, steamed broccoli with butter, veggie omelets, stuff like that, so I'll keep that up.

My goal (and I hope I'm not being unrealistic or overly zealous) will be to try to have a solid week ... or two ... and hit 249. After that, I'll just try to keep up with a consistent couple of pounds a week.

I've been enjoying seeing some changes, but I really want to see abs for the first time in my life. I have no idea how long that will take; I'll just know it when I get there. That makes for a difficult goal.

Anybody here at BCC "found" their abs after substantial weight loss?

Back from the dead

Hi fellow bootcampers. Well I fell off the wagon (and this website) last fall and put on about 30 lbs over the winter. New job, long hours, complete lack of motivation to eat well. Now that summer is coming up again it's time to lose it and keep it off. I started eating well again on April 13.

Here are the stats:

All time high: 254
Weight as of 4/13/2009: 249
Weight as of 5/4/2009: 238
Current weight (5/1/2009): 238
Total pounds from high: 16
Total pounds lost in 2009: 12
VFZ: 200 (since high school)

pretty inspiring

Looking through the old posts I recognize most of these names and it's great to see that you guys have taken the weight off and continue to keep it off. Hopefully now going forward I will be a more permanent fixture on this board.

Funny, it was said last year that those who leave often times gain weight. I'm living proof of that. The accountability provided by this site is a real motivator.

Congrats to all those who have been doing it proper!

Hey guys,

Over the two weeks I was benched, so to speak, I ticked up from 292 to 294. It's not great, but its about what I expected. I didn't go all that far off plan, I was just pretty lax about it all. Now I'm glad to be back in the game.

Cheers,
