Alberta, if you look like me, I'm sorry...lol. I look pretty good from the waist up but have so much gross skin below the waist it makes it hard to look good. 20 more pounds should help--I hope!

Food wise decent today--about 1800 calories, 12 gm carbs and 30 minutes of jogging. Seem to be back on track I hope!

Hi all! WOW I feel like I have been gone forever. I hate not having a computer at home. But we just can't afford to replace it right now. DH had last week off and I can't get to moms when he is off.

There were dozens of cars flipped over in the ditches and we were at a stand still for long periods of time as they were rescuing people from their vehicles. I am very thankful I wasn't one of them and I have to say I love semi drivers because they kept us all going slow and under control. The last hour of the trip was no problem and we were all going 70+. After I got home, my internet was screwed up, I bent my key in the trunk of my car, went to run a quick errand and it started sleeting....hmmm, let's see, I think that's it so far! But even with all that I'm just glad to be safely at home!!

Anyone else want to join?

WOW!!! I hate ice and snow. Yuck!!! So glad you are home safely!

Yes i want to join. I can't get to the 180's by jan 19th but how about 210?

4. You must Check-in Daily on the Thread ~ even if it's just to say “HI”!
(we prefer that you post your Daily Menu/Exercise/Water consumption)

5. You must NOT be a “slave to the scale”!
Accept the fact that our weights fluctuate daily, even up to 5 lbs each direction, and ... get over it! The scale canNOT tell the difference between muscle, fat, fluid ~ so it’s NOT the best indicator of success! So, no whining re: stuff like: "I gained 3 lbs yesterday", etc. Because THAT is just NOT physically possible (unless you ate 10,000+ calories)!

6. You must choose an article of clothing (i.e. blouse; pants; bra; swimsuit) and on each Monday, report on the Thread “how” that article of clothing fits you. You may also report your weight/measurements, but only if you choose to do so.

7. You must recognize that Friendship & Support & Accountability are fundamental elements of Success.

8. You must promise that, if you mess-up, you will get back on plan at the next meal, NOT the next day, week, month, etc.

9. You must be able to give/receive constructive criticism and/or a good kick in the butt when need be!

10. You must have a good sense of humor … and be able to laugh at yourself, even when it hurts!

So if ALL of the above applies to YOU … Welcome Aboard … and enjoy the ride to Freedom!
I so love the rules. They are great. I must have rules. I did get on the scales today so I could report since I won't be back to work until wednesday morning. I managed to escape Christmas with only 5 pounds gained. I have been gradually getting back to low carb. Today has been wonderful. I had one bite of a chocolate chip cookie and before I could chew it up I felt sick. So I spit it out and threw the rest away. I have been totally LC today and feel proud for it.

I can't wait until I get my computer back, but until then take care. I can't check in everyday but I will as much as possible. BBL!!!

Yeahhhhhhh! Count me IN !!!!! that would be AWESOME to "Cruise" with ALL of YOU!

Saving $10 per week will = $500 in 12 months and I think this year's cruise was $400 (+ the cost of airfare).

I know how we can EACH get a FREE plane ticket; I do it ALL the time!!

Just apply for one of these credit cards:
United Airlines - Mileage Plus Visa

Currently, an airline ticket within the 48 States is 25,000 miles.
(Hawaii & Alaska are 35,000 miles)

I rarely pay for an airline ticket. I open/close these credit cards several times per year!

just wanted to share this with y'all:

wow. that is a very simple yet profound statement: to be protective of our losses/progress!
I'm going to keep that in mind 'cause I think that's the attitude that = long-term success!

Hi everyone!

HB invited me to join this challenge. It couldn't be at a better time quite frankly.

I'm in.

I just printed out the rules and I am going to bring them to work and figure out what I'm going to do.

Thanks HB. I so need this.

Welcome Daisy! I like that--COPE--very true and very important for success!!

Morning Jen and Alberta!

HB--OK, so I was thinking about the rules and your "naughty butt" and really, there isn't a lot to hold you accountable to....basically the only "have to's" are checking in daily which you are pretty good at, and finding an article of clothing to check progress with weekly. So technically, you could eat (and drink!) whatever, gain 200 lbs, and there's nothing for me to kick your butt for as long as you check in and say that the clothing doesn't fit yet! Do you think maybe menu's and weigh in's should be a required part of it? I understand not being a slave to the scale, but that doesn't mean not weighing in my opinion--for me that's just denial. It just means learning to deal with what the number means and that it isn't the only measurement of success--but it is for me an important tool to keep me on track. Anyway, I know that the rules don't preclude any of those things--but they don't require them which is what I'm wondering about as far as accountability goes. Keep in mind, personally I can go either way--rules or no rules--but if you are looking for a challenge that focuses on accountability we might need some more required "tasks." Just a thought....

Have a great day everyone! Even though it's Monday, it is a short week--woohoo!! And, it's almost 2009!

Alberta--you're welcome! Gosh, I haven't heard about Shaklee products for years--I didn't realize they still existed. My Dad use to get some cleaning products from them--stuff for the garage, cars, boat--you know, the only stuff a guy might clean! Anyway, he swore by them. Good to know that they're still around.

OK--for those of you that love and/or are experimenting with hot teas--I think I found a new favorite. Bigelow Vanilla Caramel--very good! However, I only have one bag that I got from my mom (and she has no clue where it came from ) so I'll have to see if I can find it around here. Hope so!

Daisy--so I see your WOE says "thinking....." can I ask what that means? Your menu looks a bit like CAD but not following all the rules. Doesn't look like l.c. unless you are fairly far into OWL---so I'm intrigued!

I just printed out the rules and I am going to bring them to work and figure out what I'm going to do.

Thanks HB. I so need this.

If y'all want to make those things "required", that's fine with me!

I agree that even tho the Scale is NOT the "end all"; it is an important tool.

Personally, I'm planning to definitely post my menu's/exercise each day AND weigh-in each Monday + report how my swimsuit fits -- because I'm going to MAKE MYSELF accountable to myself AND to all of you.
(and all of that will be stated in my Goals for the Month + I expect everyone else to state their intentions, too)

But the bottom line is, no one can control anyone else. We must ALL be accountable to ourselves + the ONLY thing we can "really" control is our own Attitude.

Regardless of what we place in The Rules, I can tell you anything I want to tell you. I can even lie about my menu, my weight, exercise -- whatever!

For all you know, I could be a big old fat man that weighs 500 lbs!!

Of course, I'm not -- and I wouldn't lie to y'all -- my point is just that I don't think we should get too wrapped up in "how to make each other follow the rules" -- because in the end, we must each suck it up and make an internal decision to JUST DO IT or else we will all be fat & unhappy for the rest of our lives...KWIM Jelly Bean??

However, with THAT said -- I know that Accountability thru the Friendship & Support here with y'all is what has kept me on track in the past -- and I know that I need that again NOW!

So if we make those things required (weighing/posting) --what do you suggest we do if folks don't follow The Rules...??

And, since it's Monday, shall we start the weigh-in today??

Teresa - I am taking HB's good advice to think about what I really want to do. Yesterday wasn't really on any "plan," but I wanted to start with accountability from the start.

I am thinking today (I'm traipsing all over LCF and reading reading reading) that I am going to start with low-carb 25-35 and high fat. Keep the calories in check, but not worry too much about them.

What is CAD? I'll google!

Excellent Daisy!

Btinc told me + Barry Groves writes that women do much better (hormonally) on 30-50 carbs per day, and metabolically, there really is no difference between 20 to 30 carbs.

For me, it was always easier to keep my macros balanced at 30 carbs per day. For some reason, when I allowed myself 50 carbs per day, I always blew my calories!

Great idea to keep your calories in check; but to not worry too much about them at this point. Later, you'll want to have a "calorie range" and perhaps even "zig-zag" your calories.

Strive for 65% Fat; 30% Protein; 5% Carbs

Teresa Yes Shaklee is still around and going strong, I have been selling it since 1981. I have a web site for it but will not post it here.

did you notice how you swung from one side to the other?! That is exactly where I am at--either rules and accountability, or none! Like I said last month--having rules that everyone does not follow just annoys the crap out of me so I'd rather have rules that have a purpose and are measurable and followed or not have them and just be a support group where people choose their level of accountability. Again, however, that's just me. But I aways figure it's best for me to get my 2 cents in before something changes and it helps me decide what I want to do going forward. As far as what to do if it's an accountability thread and someone isn't following the rules--my vote is they need to leave then, and as you know I would have no problem telling them that! I mean hey--if we're going to have rules then we need to follow them and expect others to....if not, we're back to my issue of why have them in the first place?
