Wendy Chant Code Crackers Week of November 10, 2008
Welcome to the Code Cracker Challenge Board!!! Please look over the next few posts for helpful links and suggestions! This is a continuation of the Wendy Chant “Crack the Fat-Loss Code” WOE Challenge Board! Please refer to prior challenge threads and the Other Diets board for general diet information and pick up the book, "Crack the Fat-Loss Code" for full diet information, guidelines, cycling schedules, sample menus, menu logs and more! Whether you are just starting with the Cycle 1, Week 1 Carb Deplete or you are somewhere along the way, jump on in!! There are people at all levels of the Wendy Chant Way in here. This is a great group of helpful people who will be a great resource and support group for you. Remember to weigh and measure yourself or select a pair of slacks to judge your losses by – you can choose whether you want to report your stats to the group or not … up to you … but you definitely need a measure of your progress. Since we have so many levels, it's helpful when you ask questions or claim braggin' rights, if you mention in your postings what cycle, week and day you are on! Especially since the first weeks do have some restrictions that the latter weeks don’t. Be sure to post tips and such too – especially if you’ve already been doing CTFLC for awhile now! And don't forget to share your menus! That is helpful for others, but also a good measure for others to help you should you encounter any problems yourself! This is the place to share your weight loss successes, your personal story, your mistakes, grab some support, give some support ... whatever it is. We're here for you and each other. It really is a great group Sooooo, how 'bout we get Crackin'?! LET'S DO THIS!!!

The Challenge
This challenge is based on the 8-week program from "Crack the Fat Loss Code" by Wendy Chant. This challenge is open to any and all “Code Crackers” who are at any Cycle, any Week of the CTFLC program, whether it’s Cycle 1, Week 1 or Cycle 4, Week 8 or somewhere in between, and to those who are curious to watch and learn.
In brief, the 8 week program is divided into four cycles. Cycle 1: Carb-Deplete Cycle – WEEK 1 This is the toughest week! For 7 days you will be restricting certain foods – mostly carbs – in order to manipulate the glycogen stored in the muscle. During this cycle you’ll be shutting off the body’s dependence on sugar and also teach it where to find the fat stores for energy! This week you will be counting carbs very closely so your veggies are somewhat limited and fats are more focused on the good fats. But, if you carefully follow the cycle you will never have to count carbs again! Cycle 2: Macro-Patterning Cycle – WEEKS 2-4 Now you’ll move into what is called the Macro-Patterning Cycle. This is where you begin to slowly re-introduce carbs into your life, teaching the body to burn fat while slowing down the adaptive response. During week 2, you will begin to bring most of the foods that you consume regularly back into your daily meals. You will see less rigidity in the meal plans—and more substitutions. For best results, it is recommended that you continue to abstain from alcohol on carb-up days during Week 2. During Week 3, you will have two carb-up days, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. After this week is the best time to add in sweets and alcohol on your carb-up days. *There are 3 kinds of days in Cycle 2. Baseline Days This is where you are teaching your body to adapt. You will be taking in the basic nutrients your body needs through proteins, you’ll take in good fats, but you’ll be adding in one starchy food at two different meals in your day, so long as you eat them before 3:00 p.m. Carb-Down Days These are days where you will have a more minimal starch intake to force your body to use fat as an energy source. One these days you will still get your fats from good fat sources, and you will consume one starch before 3:00 p.m. Carb-Up Days This is where you will increase your starches to stoke the metabolic rate and give the body what it needs for repair and growth. Your last 2 meals on this day will be primarily carbs! Yes, you can splurge on those usual forbidden foods – bread, desserts, pizza and even alcohol. We call these days Food Passes and you have two of them a week, typically on Wednesdays and Sundays, but the beauty of this plan is that you can adjust these Carb Up Days as needed for special occasions, making it very convenient and totally interchangeable. Cycle 3: Accelerated Fat-Loss Cycle – WEEKS 5 & 6 For the 3rd cycle, you will begin to pick up the pace! You will continue to follow the same types of days that you did with the Macro-Patterning Cycle, but you will change how they are cycled in order to increase the body’s use of fat stores. Cycle 4: Maintenance Cycle – WEEKS 7 & 8 The 4th cycle is all about teaching your body to reset back to a higher nutrient profile in favor of carbohydrates and fats. During this cycle you will get 2 new days – a cheat day where you can have any food you like – including any carbs you’ve missed, and you’ll also get a High-Carb Day where you have clean starches all throughout your day. If you have made your goal by this week, you will use this cycle to maintain. If you seek to continue your weight loss, you will restart your program at Cycle 2. Let's get crackin'!!! |

Hi, All.
I start Week 5, the first week of accelerated fat loss. I'm excited about it because it hasn't been too hard for me to stick to this WOE. I had a decent carb up day today (switched with yesterday because I was going out with friends) and had a lovely time tasting the snacky stuff at the place where we went and not feeling guilty about it! It was fun! I also drank a protein shake before we left and brought an apple with me to eat in the car so I wouldn't be ravenous by the time we got there. I was fine and didn't overdo the snacks. Turns out we decided not to go out to lunch because they had so much to do this afternoon, so I came home and carbed up on my own. I'm going back to school tomorrow, but my student teacher is teaching full time so I can sit and prop my knee up as needed. The kids can come to my desk for help of they need it. Tuesday is my follow up appointment with the doctor and i will find out what kind of therapy is necessary to heal and strengthen properly. Guess I better be off to bed. That alarm is going to go off at 5:00am! ![]() 'Night! Alissa - Remind me to tell you about my dating experiences! ![]()

New to Crack (and confused)!
Hello All!
I am new to the board (and "boards" in general) and I am starting "Crack" week 1 tomorrow (11/10/08), after having spent the last year and a half on the Schwarzbein Principle (lost 38 lbs.). I loved the SP, but leading up into June I had been plateauing pretty badly and then, I started getting really "shaky" and sweaty like I had low blood sugar! To alleviate those symptoms I started upping my carbs per meal, from 15g per meal to 30-50g per meal. Eventually the shakiness started to go away but since June I have gained 13 lbs. back! I don't understand this as I work out regularly and still follow the plan to a "T". I have been to doctors and I can't seem to get any answers and they don't want to hear about my low-carb diet...they just say eat less calories! I think I was not eating enough carbs for the amount of exercise I was doing (45 minutes cardio + weights) and maybe I short circuited myself. I am getting a sense that my body is somehow producing too much insulin and after I eat a balanced meal, I have to eat again pretty soon after or I start to get that feeling. I have a hard time believing that I could be pre-diabetic after losing so much weight and not eating any sugar and limiting my carbs. I don't even use artificial sweeteners! Anyone ever experience anything like this? Whatever the case may be, my metabolism is stuck (even though the results of a BMR test says I am "above average") so I am giving Crack a shot to see if I can re-set my metabolism. So, I am a little freaked about this first week and only having 20g of carbs. In reading over some of the posts I am thinking I should not try and continue my workout regimen this week. If I get that horrible shaky should I try and work through it? it is the worst feeling! I read most of the CTFLC book but I still have questions (and concerns), so I may be posting here a lot in the next few days. ![]() Thanks in advance for your wisdom! |

My first questions...
Hello again!
I am starting Week 1/Day 1 in the morning... So, if I want my all natural peanut butter this week which is 7g protein and 6g carbs (per 2 tbs), do I count that as 1 carb (as in 1 net carb) or do I have to count all 6 carbs towards my 20g for the day? Can I have all of my carbs in one sitting (say, a slice and a half of Ezekial Bread for lunch)? I am not used to measuring protein (on Schwarzbein you can eat as much as you like per meal, within reason of course). So...do you have to count the protein during all 8 weeks or is that only for the first week? Does anyone know how many actual calories we are eating on week one? Can someone recommend their favorite Crack approved protein powder? If I am missing a thread somewhere that has all this information, please direct me. I am still getting used to using boards so I am not sure how to find stuff and why there is a new thread every week. ![]() Thanks! |

![]() Jupiter to the best WOE and best thread in the world!!!Firstly, W1 you can eat ONLY what's on the list! This WOE is very forgiving, but not on W1. Do you have the book? Please reread the first chapters- it's pretty clear! As for calculating net carbs- you subtract fiber grams from the carb grams to get net carbs. Protein has nothing to do with it. There's a new thread each week as otherwise it would get too long. |

Week 4 Day 7
hi Jupiter, can't have ez bread in week 1, peanut butter is considered a fat and not sure that is allowed either. Go back to your book and look at the list of allowable foods for first week. They are limited and have to be followed by the letter. At least 80 ounces of water per day too. Please follow this because as boring as it gets it is what gets rid of your cravings. You can have protein drinks and most of the ladies like Atkins.
Go through all the links they post because they are helpful. Everyone here is very nice and we're happy to help a new week 1 lady! I'm starting week 5 tomorrow have lost 13 lbs in 3 weeks, don't know about week 4 yet as I weigh tomorrow. I have gone down a pants size and the new ones are getting loose too. They encourage you to not go crazy watching the scale and to notice the inches lost instead. I'm heading to bed and no problems with my new tattoo at all. I can't see it but everyone is saying it looks like it's well already. Good night and see you all tomorrow.

HI JUPITER!!
![]() I think peanut butter is not approved in the first week. I'd have to check as I am not a peanut butter person...unless it is mixed with candy corn Maybe Kelley17 can chime in on that issue Active (Net) carbs are what you count. So you do net out the fiber to get to "net" carbs. This si different then your example, which looks like you netted carbs from protein. Keep in mind sugar grams...this is a program in the first week where you want to keep sugar grams at a bare minimum. Regarding protein, 3-6 ounces of protein (15-40 grams of protein actually...averaged) per meal...generally is the goal. You can not have EZ bread in the first week...you can ONLY have the foods on the approved list and according to the rules listed on pages 73-78 Kelley17 and some of the other gals likes the Jay Robb protein powder...I am not a protein powder gal...I like the Atkins premade shakes. others...please let Jupiter know what you like ![]() Check out the third post for helpful links to supportive and informative threads...we start a new one each week to keep them reasonable You can link back to all the threads from post 3 on all the weekly threads.Calories depend on the person...it is not a "calorie based" plan...I can vary from 1500 - 2500. I am very active as well. I worked out the whole first week...it was hard but i loved it and got through it. OK...I'll post this and hope it helps you out! ~Alissa Quote:

Thanks so much for the answers!
Okay...got it...can't have any 'ol carbs the first week, only carbs from the approved list in the book. I never really used net carbs...I always thought it was protein (not fiber) minus carbs... Where might I find Atkin's pre-made shakes...is that in the dairy section of the supermarket? |

Hi Jupiter!
Mornin Crackers! Starting week 5 today. Woo Hoo,bring on accelerated fat loss! Hope you all have a wonderful and healthy week.
Jupiter, First of all, congrats on your success on Schwartzbein. I looked into it years ago but really didn't do it. I bought the cook book though and it has some great recipies that I still use today. The Greek fish is one of my all time favorites and it always gets raves.I think you will love this WOE. I've lost 15 lbs and 7in. total. In 4 weeks. Actually haven't weighed this week yet. Wendy stresses to focus on how your clothes fit and NOT the scale # so much. Of course we all weigh,(preferably only once a week),and measure ourselves. So get out the tape measure today! I LOVE peanut butter but did not have it the first week. I do have it now though. I love it in my oatmeal. It is a fat so after week one,you do have to watch your fats. One thing I learned during week one is that if you start feeling weak or hungry, you might need to add some fat to your food. This is the only week when you can actually NOT worry to much about fat. So good luck. You'll find that everyone here is very helpful. The 'oldtimers',(those who've done 2-3 rounds of the plan),are super good folks who are very patient and knowledgable! Oh by the way, do you live in Jupiter Fl? Just wondering. dede |

Jupiter! You live on the East Coast, not sure how much North or South you are, but Walmart, Target, and similar stores have the Atkins premade shakes. I read the rest of the chapters, again last night, to refresh my memory. Looking forward to see how things are at the end of week eight. I will be on a cruise in my 8th week, so I think that will work out spendidly. I have to jump off, driving home to Maryland today. Kelley~~So sorry the baby isn't well. ![]() I am glad you found this board. I never heard of the SP diet that you mentioned in your post. Did you happen to buy Wendy Chant's book? If not, please do as it will be a very helpful manual to you in your efforts. Week 1 with only 20 g a day was tough but it...ended . You will never have to count carbs past that first week. From the book, "This is when you are restricting certain foods (particularly carbs) and manipulating the amount of glycogen that is stored in the muscle."We have quite a few people who have done some kind of LC diet in the past. This program is so much more forgiving and kind to your body and your mind. As far as your exercise, you will have to stop it for the duration of weeks 1. In her book, Wendy explains that in week 1 your body will have enough to cope with. So you can take a well-deserved, guilt free break. Jupiter, we will help you to get thru. There are a few very experienced and knowledgeable ladies on this board with STELLAR results - you can't fail even if you want to Join us! |

Morning Vladis,
I see you keep your book close to you at all times too! I'm always looking back in it to double check to see what I can and can't have. I'm gearing up for our next cycle, wk 5 & 6. So happy that this board is here. Such a great group of ladies with tons of support. GROUP ![]() |

This one is a short one. Just 5 days, down to Keywest & then to Cozumel. Taking the grown up children and their SFO's. We got tired of trying to figure out what to get them for Christmas, soooo we got a good deal on this package. My husband and I did an Alaskian cruise in May. Now that was awesome. Have a great day! |

Week 6, Day 1
Quote:
Good morning everyone. Our school has today and tomorrow off so I'm very happy with that! I have some painting to do in my bedroom so that will keep me busy. Sherrie, Wow! Great job on the weight loss and the inches gone! I wish I had measured myself. I think I will do that right now. Better late than never right? I am on week 6, day 1 today. At week 5 I was down 17 lbs. and stayed the same as of this morning (start of week 6). This was the first week I hadn't lost. I am on the accelerated fat loss weeks so hopefully by next Monday I will have lost more. I remember someone here saying that on week 5 they didn't lose but on week six they lost 3 lbs. Anyway, I've dropped a couple sizes in clothes so I'm very happy. I use my treadmill faithfully. This is the easiest plan to stick to that I have ever been on. I love this WOE!!! ![]() Lynda |
