I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry.

The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health.
He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease.

As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?'

He smiled as he patted my hand and said, 'She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is.'

I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, 'That is the kind of love I want in my life.'

True love is neither physical, nor romantic.

True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.

I hope you share this with someone you care about. I just did.

Going shopping with my momma and my sister! When I come home, going to try the 1-minute muffin for lunch. I didn't have any flax, so I have to buy some while we are out

I'll check back in later.

Have a great afternoon!

Deb Welcome back. So happy to hear from you again. My little one is doing better and yes I did the stagger thing. Thanks! Haven't heard from Mary MC lately but I've thought about PMing her.

Instead the doctor sent us to the emergency room thinking it could be blood clots that could move to her heart. So we spent the rest of the day in the emergeny room waiting for tests and the doctor. Did not get home until 5 p.m. I had a snack at 10 and did not have any lunch or other food until we got home. The good news is there were no blood clots, but there is a cyst behind the knee. So my new plan is to read all the posts before bed and be caught up tomorrow.

Hope everyone's day went well.

Talk to you later.

Sara
for your mom. How scary, my dad had blood clots right before his cancer treatment - so scary. I hope they are able to drain or remove the cyst sounds painful. Take care Sara!

Sara - I've done that for my high carb day too. mashed potatoes are approved right, I figure I'm going to keep having my wine until it stalls me. So far so good.

I have moved down two sizes and I feel very optimistic because I have a serious back problem that does not allow me to exercise as much as I would like.

I have been following this wonderful board and although I have no time to participate more actively it has been a tremendous help in clarifying certain points in the book that are obscure. Hi everyone!
Just checking in I try to keep up with the posts so I don't miss anything. I wish I loved all the vegtables you ladies do they all sound wonderful when your fixing them.

I also loved the 10 items listed but let's make 7. Lying like your ex, my dogs are sweet and I can totally trust them!

I'm busy planning our Latin Party for Dec. 6th. The theme is a Mexican Xmas and that's a fun theme. red, white and green. Lots of pointsettas, and garland and I think chilli peppers. Then of course the food is my favorite, I must remind people that margarita's are the drinks to bring. My daughter and I are going to make homemade stars to put on the xmas trees so I'm off for supplies.

I hope all your babies get well quickly, all households get repaired quickly and everyone eat a squash for me.

Thank you for sharing this. What a sad, sweet and beautiful story. I'm so blessed to have the relationship I do with my husband. Yes girls, it's possible and worth the wait!

Please share the recipe for the chocolate waffles! I love chocolate syrup and I"m going to work on making an approved batch!
Chocolate Waffles

1 scoop Protein powder (we use pea protein isolate)
1 egg plus 2 egg whites (or two eggs)
1 heaping tsp baking powder
1-2 tbsp cocoa (we use 24% cocoa for dark chocolate waffles)
1 packet or 1/4 tsp stevia with inulin (I suppose you could use other sweeteners)
water for consistency.

Mix everything but the water in a bowl, whisking well. Add enough water, if necessary, to thin to batter consistency ( I needed about 1/4 c water).

Heat waffle iron to high and spray with Pam or very lightly oil.

Cook until crispy (we have an automatic timer that beeps on ours, so I'm not sure how long). My waffle maker is a Belgium waffle stick maker.

Makes: 2 large waffles.

Variations:
Mocha: add a tsp of instant coffee to the batter.
Mexican: add 1/2 tsp of cinnamon to the batter
Chocolate covered 'cherry': Add 1 -2 tsp amaretto to the batter. (dunno why this works, but it tastes a bit like marachino cherries dipped in chocolate)
Girl Scout Chocolate mint: add a SPARE amount of peppermint oil or extract (like a drop or two) to the batter.
Terry's Chocolate Orange: Add a SPARE amount of orange extract to the batter (like a drop or two)
Chocolate Raspberry: Add a single raspberry crystal light packet to the batter (the kind you put in the individual water bottles, not the large amount)

Oh, I forgot to add that I did some of the p90x last night with hubby. Just cuz I wanted to try it. I only did half of their 'mother of all videos'. Oy. It was enough to make my legs jiggly and sore. So I'm just adding it to the 'if I want to' list to change things up if I get bored. The Yoga one I'm def'ly interested in. My 13 year old son started chanting, "C'mon, move, do it..." He nearly got himself killed. LOL!

Tonight I think I'll get back on the elliptical or do my pilates tape tho I just have a deal with myself that I'll do something at least 6 days/wk - whatever sounds good.

Sara, no big deal - now you know what to do for the next round. I was supposed to be high carb this weekend. Well I did sky high carb LOL! We're starting the cycle over again anyway, so your mistake will be long forgotten by the end of the week. BTW, I think the mashed potatoes were fine. Potatoes of any kind are listed in the Starch food list, so they were approved for the high carb meal. Wine on the other hand - um, no
Onward...................XOXO
Hope your mom is OK. My mom's swollen leg ended up being a clot after an appendectomy. I'm glad your mom didn't have to go through what my mom did. I hope the cyst can be easily removed

Thank you, Renee. She does want the cyst removed as it is causing her pain.

Onward it is. I am looking for the holiday schedule. Thinking ahead to Thanksgiving. I love pumpkin pie and can't wait to try the one minute muffin. Everytime I go to Trader Joes I forget to buy the ground flax seed.

Kelley I hope Carli is ok. My granddaughter ended up in the emergency room on Saturday with a 104 fever. That is scary at 1 year old since they cannot tell you what is wrong. You have had more than your share of illnesses with the kids. Lets hope the rest of the year is a healthy one for your family.

Love,

Sara

Your body will add water at first to 'fill in' the spots where the fat came off (anyone have the link to that post??) - you'll lose it later. Keep working the program.

And let me repeat - if you are honestly working the program, then that 3 pound gain must be water.

WATER WATER WATER

(Say it with me....) AND WATER FLUSHES!

Your body uses water to cushion the impact of all the toxins, hormones, and waste products released into your blood stream by the fat loss. DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED!

We're here for you
So when we lose fat we're also losing toxins, hormones and waste products? YEA!!! No wonder we all feel so good!!!! Thanks for all the good infor. It's alwasy so interesting

Hi Everyone,

I just started week 3 yesterday. As of this morning I have officially broken my stall and am now at my lowest weight (I have not weighed this much since junior high as I moved steadily through the 170's). Here is my week 3 plan. I added in meal number 6 but have not been hungry in the evening so I doubt I will actually have that meal very often. The jerky listed is homemade lean beef, sugar-free and a dash of Cectic salt.

They put her on a super duper antibiotic. The pharmacist had pity on me they were on number 94 when I got there (I was number 9) Carli had begun throwing up and he pushed us ahead of everyone else. Poor baby, I hurt when my babies hurt. She seems to be doing better this morning.
The pharmacist was probably happy to see you gone.... Hate those long lines....
Hope Carli feels better soon - it hurts just to hear about it- I get outers sometimes and they are really painful (I sleep with earplugs- that's probably what sets them off....

Thanks for all the advice- I just wish I would see the scale moving a bit... this is super discouraging- now that I decided to to maintenance it will take longer to see what a full cycle will do for me...

Onward it is. I am looking for the holiday schedule. Thinking ahead to Thanksgiving. I love pumpkin pie and can't wait to try the one minute muffin. Everytime I go to Trader Joes I forget to buy the ground flax seed.

Sara
Sara, did you try the low carb pumpkin pie in the recipe link? I remember you asked about the Splenda baking mix. It's in a big yellow bag by the sugar on the baking aisle. It's still regularSplenda, just granulated so it will measure cup for cup to sugar. I made another "pie" last week and ate it all week long. Totally hit the spot!! Thanksgiving will be week 18, or cycle week 4 for us.BCDBCDB. Did you see the holiday plan I posted yesterday? If not, here goes:

Holidays:

I got the scoop last night on the holiday meal. Do a "no starch" the day before and after and cheat on the holiday. By no starch, I mean it's like a deplete day but you can have the tomatoes and onions and stuff like that. By cheat, I mean WHATEVER you want.

BTW - I did my run this morning - I'm up to 2 miles straight - WOO HOO!!! Total run time was 30 minutes. I was shooting for 1 3/4 miles, but I thought I'd try for 2 and I made it. I might make a full 5K by next spring after all

Take care

Yeah Renee on the running. I did not start week 8 last night. But will start on Wednesday.

I thought the Splenda mix was the one that was 1/2 splenda and 1/2 sugar and that is why I was confused. I think I will hit TJs tonight and get the flax. Did we decide that we can eat the one minute muffin on any day?

Thanks for your advice.

Hi Driving Mrs Daisy,

I microwave the heads of cabbage in a covered bowl with a splash of water until the leaves are soft and I can take them off the head. I slice off the thick part of the vein near the base of each leave.

I chop bacon and onion and fry them together until the onion starts to brown.

I mix cooked rice (I usually put a bit of tomato paste in the water that I cook the rice in), ground beef, the bacon and onions, crushed garlic and salt and pepper together.

I place the filling in the cabbage leaves and roll them up, folding the sides in as I roll (like an egg roll). I line the bottom of my roaster with cabbage leaves then I stack the rolls in a roaster and pour a can of diced tomatoes over top. I cover the top of the cabbage rolls with another layer of cabbage leaves (I use the ones that are torn or too small for the rolls). The layers on the tops and bottom are important because cabbage can burn easily. I bake in the oven for about 2 hours. I then take off the top layer of leaves (Which usually have started to burn) and throw them away. It is a great lunch for baseline days - protein, starch and veggies all in one.

Sorry I do not have measures, I just throw it together.

If the rolling etc., seems like too much work then you can try lazy cabbage rolls with coleslaw mix. Layer ground beef cooked with a bit of bacon, garlic and onions with raw rice, coleslaw mix and tomato sauce in a crockpot. You can google "lazy cabbage rolls crockpot" and get a variety of recipes with the measurements for the ingredients. Choose the one that sounds the best and try it.

Morning Linda. Conratulations on your inches lost! That's awesome! I wish I had measured, but I didn't, so I'm going to start when I get back home. I'm going to measure and then see where I go from there!

I feel like my belly has gone down again this morning. In fact, it felt like I woke up to a shift during the night last night. One thing I know for sure, when I lay on my side, my belly doesn't hang halfway over the bed! (I know not a pretty picture)!
I get the picture completely. I didn't think I was as heavy as some of my family (hope they don't read this) but when I saw pictures of us together at a party in July, eek, I was well on my way. I could be following in grandma's footsteps, wearing "house" dresses all the time, to hide the bulk. Remember moomoos? Or was that a Baltimore thing? I'm showing my age now but it's only a number. I sure feel younger than I am.
