Anyone got any good idea for a 1st week mid-afternoon snack?
Eat more protein and make sure that you're getting enough fat!!!!! The protein and fat are the things that stave off your hunger.

WOE: Crack the fat-loss code
Start Date: September 8th, 2008
Nina- DO NOT GIVE UP! I am on my second round, just starting week 3 and I have lost 3 lbs in the last 3 days. When I got measured, I had only lost 3.5 inches but now, I am up to 17lbs lost and will get my inches done on Wednesday again. I only weigh once or twice a week no matter how much it kills me and my inches are done once a month at Curves. Just keep trying!

Kelley17 – sorry to hear about Carli, I hope she is feeling better. My second youngest went through several ear infections and it was terrible. She finally got older and out grew it but while it is happening, you feel sorry for them and all you can do is hold them.

Pam – good luck to you and your daughter. I hope she likes the plan.

Renee lucky you, they are $9 for 4 here but I pay it because I lovvvvve them! You ONLY lost 16lbs - I put 16 lbs of weights in a bag and then pick it up. It is amazing how much it weighs. It really helps keep my weight loss in perspective. Congrats on your loss!

Alissa you should be shouting, shouting for joy! O my gosh ~ good for you. It must be a big relief to have the check and I hope you get the house. Let us know! Wow Alissa, what a tear-jerker story but very nice. That is true love! Here is a quote I sent to my mom after my dad died “If God brings you to it, he will bring you through it” and I truly believe it. If it wasn’t for God and our faith, I don’t know how we would have dealt with my dad being gone.

CONGRATS to everyone on their victories and hang-in-there for the strugglers. This is a great WOE. I will change my siggy when I know my measurements on Wednesday. I have lost 17lbs so far and I plan to continue until I reach my goal weight.

Okay...so even though in the book it says to only have 4-6 oz. of protein I can step it up? I am freakin' starving right now (it's midnight here) and I am usually up until 1 - 2 am. I think I am going to have some more broccoli with some butter. That would be like meal #7...is that okay?

It's a tweak, but it is in the Atkins shakes, and many of us have been drinking that. I don't, but I have a very low carb soy milk that I use a bit of in my coffee- your decision....

:
The person he was is gone- and it's his loss, and that house is your consolation prize- a symbol of your successes and a new beginning. It's very hard letting go of our dreams and moving on, and you've passed the test with flying colors , and all the love you have to offer will come back to you many times over!! Mourning is fine and healthy- it's great you can do that, have a great support system (and attorney...) and who to share this with. One day some very very lucky guy will have your love forever.

-Where does exercise play in the program...I have been doing 1.5 hours of cardio since I started...but I am not sure that I should be doing that much in Week 1?
-Coming from a science background, I am a bit confused as to why you would first want to deplete your glycogen stores and then in Week 2...you would be adding glycogen back into the system?? Thanks!
It's a miracle you can do it in W1- maybe take it a bit easier. Wendy advises to leave the exercise alone if it's hard for you. More important to eat on plan.
The cravings shall pass, and you will have freedom, FREEDOM!!!!
Depleting teaches your body to burn its own fat, and adding it back shakes things up to prevent plateaus, and teach your body to keep burning- you can't live without the glycogen forever, and this WOE allows you to eat the carbs you need and still lose the fat- and thus Crack the Fat Loss Code!!

Either would be fine- step it up if you need to- as for the brocolli, make sure you are still under 20gr carbs if you have it, and have it with some protein- no veggies without protein!!. Go eat right now- you'll sleep better, and won't wake up with a killer headache (I do when I don't eat enough...)
BTW- do you get enough sleep? (It's 7:45 AM here)

Always have some protein with a carb...so eat something with that broccoli. 7 meals would be fine...I did that several times in week1.

Hey Linda - Get your sister the book!!! I told my sister that she would kick herself in a few weeks when I was skinny and she was still a fat cow. hahahaha. Fortunately we can talk like that to each other. I really like this WOE!!!

Bball girl - yeah, skip the exercise, except maybe some walks, and oh uh, don't donate blood either. That was another butt kicker for me. Not during the first week anyway.

I couldn't eat all my food today!!! Just not hungry enough. I missed my starch at lunch. Oops. My bad. The shrimp in her book is good and my whole family loved it. (all 4 boys).

Whew! Okay, I ate a few stalks of leftover steamed broccoli with a little chicken and heated them up in some butter. It hit the spot! I think I did okay with the carbs because there were like none all morning!

I have a weird schedule...I work from home and am usually at my computer until 2 a.m. and then I get up in the morning between 9-10 a.m.. I do get plenty of rest...at least 7 hours but I shoot for 8 (if the phone doesn't ring right at 9 a.m. I am good to go!)

PS...I peed a LOT today

I was just thinking again...can I eat a protein alone? Like if I am hungry in-between meals or at 2a.m. can I have a cheese stick and still be okay?

cheese is a fat on this WOE, though I have a LF cheese that's higher in protein , but those cheese sticks saved me W1- first week it's definitely OK.
Protein alone is also OK- though you should finish eating 2 hours b4 sleep, if you are starved, go for it! With time you will be able to gear your meals in a way that will allow you to finish 2 hours b4 sleep without starving at 2AM!! And, your hunger will go down.
My last two meals are now the smallest in my day, and evening hunger is a thing of the past (though I have been waking up headachey... which means I should eat a bit more in the evenings, but I am not hungry!)
You're doing great! Keep up the good work!

Off to vote (municipal elections here today...), check out a new gym to move to.... and my weekly supermarket trip. G'nite to you all, and good morning to the early risers

Hi everyone,

Thought I would post my results to encourage those who are just starting out and show that the program does work because it is neither extreme or unreasonable.

Week One, day 1, I weighed 213 pounds. As of today, Week Four, day 2, I am 196 pounds.Total loss: 17 pounds. I have not been hungry or deprived and my energy levels have tremendously improved. I have moved down two sizes and I feel very optimistic because I have a serious back problem that does not allow me to exercise as much as I would like.

I have been following this wonderful board and although I have no time to participate more actively it has been a tremendous help in clarifying certain points in the book that are obscure. Also, the moment I asked a question it was promptly and thoughtfully answered. Thanks. Keep the good work up!!

Will post progress next week.

So I got on the scale today,(week 5 day2),and it showed that I had gained .8lbs. THEN got the tape measure out and the results were there! Didn't add them all up but definitely less than when measured 2 weeks ago. I just can't trust that digital scale!
Back to work todays so will miss lots I'm sure. Have a great day everyone! dede

Good Morning everyone -

I will have to try to catch up on all thre posts.. skimmed through them and lots of news.

Welcome to all the new people, hello to all the "veterans" to the board. Houses, sick kids, questions.. all I need to catch up on.

As I said earlier I was bad over the weekend and fell off a bit on plan, not a big fall but enough to make myself but I just get back on and go.. Last night I went with son to Applebees and we ordered this 2 for $20 meal and it comes with appetizer and he wants onion rings.. mmmmmmmm I broke down and had about 3 of the smaller ones. So today is carb down day and I will do that through Thursday. Friday- Sunday I am going on a girls weekend away and not sure how well I will be able to do the plan, but with carbdown before I will have one day as my carb-up and then baseline. How does that sound?

Tomorrow is weigh in day for me, I have checked daily my weight (feeling the voodoo curse on me every time I do) and I dont' think I lost any this week. But we will see, and I will not get discouraged if I don't it seems to be the pattern. I LOVE this WOE too much to stop. This plan is very life friendly and I want to succeed.

SO, off to shower and get ready for work

Wendy states that you should not really try to excercise the first week. I know I just did not have the energy. Also,to understand the science behind this WOE,you should read the book. It explains it in detail. I've read it several times and still have trouble wrapping my brain around it. All I know is that it works! Good luck. dede

Frozen Banana Cream

1 Serving

This is an old restaurant trick that has been around for years. Use this delightfully simple "sorbet" wherever you would use ice cream. Try it sprinkled with chopped nuts, or on a bed of pureed raspberries or strawberries. We can also add nutmeg and cinnamon to give our metabolism and extra kick in the butt

Ingredients:
1 very ripe banana

Instructions:
Peel the banana and cut it into chunks. Put the chunks, uncovered, on a plate in the freezer, and freeze for at least an hour. (They can stay overnight.) When you're ready to serve, take out the banana and put the frozen pieces in a blender or food processor, and process until smooth, scraping down the sides of the container as needed. As the bananas thaw slightly, the texture will become smooth and creamy.

Nutritional Information:

Per serving:
92 calories
0 g total fat (0 g sat)
0 mg cholesterol
23 g carbohydrate
1 g protein
2 g fiber
1 mg sodium
Vladis: I always keep frozen bananas because I make this for my grandkids whenever they are around or when friends and kids come around. Everyone loves it and no one ever thinks to make it themselves. It is a better choice for a carb up day for me.

Thanks, Dede. I'm at my sisters house and I'm going to make this for breakfast! She has microwave. My mom has a microwave she is going to give me. Don't know what my husband will say about that. I'm going to tell him "I'm just going to use it for 1-minute muffins!

Last night I had some gnocchi with broccoli and cherry tomatoes. Sounds much better than it tasted - broccoli was so salty my eyes were like this - . Gnocchi were too cold and just not tasty. I did have a beet, spinach and pine nuts salad and it was GREAT! There were just a few pieces of beet so that wasn't too terribly bad.
Vladis: beets are allowed on carb up days. I'm with you. I'm going to start making our carb up dinners. I love to create new recipes, so I can fix up some very healthy, wonderfully tasting dishes that maybe I can share on here and on my foodblog. I'm talking about this WOE on my foodblog. I get quite a few hits every day on it.

This is a big question, and I will have to decide by the end of the week.
I am open to ideas and suggestions!!
JMHO, but I'd keep going with my maintenance weeks.

I can only seem to find imitation rum extract. Where are you getting yours?

Eat every 2-3 hours, especially if you're awake more than the "ususal". DO NOT GO HUNGRY! I'll sometimes nuke some brussel sprouts or sugar snap peas if I'm still hungry, especially later at night. It all depends on my mood. I'll sometimes make Wendy's crepe without the oatmeal in it. It is fine to have more proteins.

Is that cool or what!!! Problem is, the book needs to be COMPLETE by 12/15/08 for a March 2009 release so we need these right away. That's just crazy! So far, the name of the book may be something like, "Crack the fat loss code II - plan, organize & design your Ultimate body, health & life".

What she requests is:
1. Before and after photos. Real photos, not digital. McGraw Hill says that they're easier to work with and I suspect that they may think that some people might digitally enhance photes. Please note that they may not be returned.
2. Stories. What your life was like before and how this has changed your life or accomplishments, or whatever you may deem appropriate. Don't worry if you can't write well. The editors can massage your words without changing any of your message.
3. Recipes. I've seen some in here and they're fabulous. We would love for you to share them.

McGraw Hill will ask for a release to be signed by anybody that is used in the book noting that you are not expecting anything in return and probably something to the effect that you can't sue anybody for anything. There is no compensation for this because the stories are less believable if you get paid to do them. She mentioned getting some
t-shirts made for you, but this is coming up so quickly that we're not sure about anything.

Unfortunately, not everybody can be chosen to be in the book. Be sure to put your LCF.com sign in names tho just so I can put your names with real names and faces.

Send your entries to:

Forever Fit

Altamonte Springs, FL 32714

Be sure to include your name, address, phone numbers, or whatever identifying info you can give.

Much love to all of you!
Jerri

I checked with Wendy about the photos. She said that it's ok to use the digital photos that are printed out on regular photo paper, not regular paper. I suggest having them printed at a photo place unless you're an expert at printing your own.

Stats: Not sure, but not weighing either.

Just to let you all know. I baked some butternut squash last night for dinner and everyone loved it. I just cut the squash into rounds, removed the seeds, and toasted them oh my they were delicious!, but then I placed the butternut squash on a baking sheet, brushed on a little evoo (you can control how much you put if you brush it on) then added a little salt and pepper. I baked them at 375 degrees until the underside was browned and the top had a really nice crispy golden hue. You can even eat the peel, which is very nutritious, and probably adds some fiber. It was a very nice side.

I think the best time for this dish would be a carb up day or for one of your carb servings before 3:00. For me, last night, it was a better choice than mashed potatoes. I did have my 1 cup of broccoli too!

Acai

Good morning, ladies!

I have to catch up on all latest posts but I saw Jerri's on and want to get an answer to a question.

Jerri, can I use acai juice in my diet? It's one of those superfoods and I have purchased completely "clean" (no preservatives, artificial flavors or colors of any kind) one. The serving size is 1 oz (up to 3 oz a day). No fat, 1g carbs, no fiber, 1g sugar (trace of daily value). Thanks!!!

Thanks

Thanks guys for all your replies...I will get the book.

In terms of the cheese stick...I am sure its a great idea...I just love cheese so much that if I get a pack of cheese sticks they will be gone in less than an hour b/c i have nothing else to snack on....

I am making another an egg white omelet...I am only on Day 4 and I cant bear to see anymore omelets...does anyone have any other suggestions for breakfast??

Also, one of my biggest diet blunders is weighing myself every single day...and if with all the fluctuations...I get discouraged...So I have been waiting to weigh myself after Week 1 is done...which has proved to be more a challenge than the actual diet...haha...I stored my scale in my closet to hide the temptation...but all I want to do is weigh myself and see any results...I know its crazy...any suggestions on when the best times to weigh yourself??? Thanks!

11/8-- 182lbs
11/6---????????

Another question

Geez, sorry I am full of questions today

I am on week 4, day 2 today. I have to go to a function on Thursday(baseline) and then on Friday(carb down).

Can I do the following:

scenario #1
Wed - carb down
Thur - CARB UP
Fri -CARB UP
Sat - baseline
Sun - baseline (back on schedule), OR

scenario #2
Wed - carb down
Thur - CARB UP
Fri - baseline (this day I will have more "food control" than on Thursday)
Sat - carb down
Sun - CARB UP

(the issue that I see with scenario #2 is that week 5 is my Accelerate week and if I carb up on Sunday I will go right into two carb down days in that week). I have no problem with that but I want to make sure it's not going to hurt my progress.

Please Jerri and the "elders" show me the right way

Thank you!!!

With my losses, I don't know why I bother to stick around.... I'm still hoping, and feelingso great, that I just can't leave! I can't believe I'm sticking with it for almost 2.5 months...

Squash is a veggie on baseline and carb-up day- as per Jerri.
I stab a whole one afew times with a sharp knife , and zap it in the microwave- we love it sliced. Had it for lunch today with salmon. (Do it on a plate- it leaks!)
