Just popping in to say hi. Slow day all around which is good because I'm feeling very tired these last few days. Who knows, might be allergies, PMS or the carb up day yesterday. (Or little one sleeping in my bed last night...that is very rare because I can't sleep with an elbow or feet in my face!) Samantha, my oldest, said she did perfectly today on her Day 1. She had a friend who offered her some of her fried chicken tenders and cookie at school but she turned her down. Big steps for her so I'm very proud of her efforts! It's getting a little complicated trying to plan everyone's meals but hubby helps make it all so it's okay They just rely on me to tell them what they can eat when. LOL!

Hope everyone's having a good day!

Pam

I am doing okay so far today...I have been hungry pretty soon after every meal, but how can I eat more at each meal when it says exactly how much protein I should eat (like only 4oz. of chicken or exactly 1 egg + 3 egg whites)? Believe me, I maxed out whatever I thought I could (extra lettuce and celery), but I am still pretty hungry. I am getting ready for my 4th meal/snack but I don't have any protein shakes in stock yet. Anyone got any good idea for a 1st week mid-afternoon snack?

Quote:

Jupter, Move your meals closer together if need be. Eating every 2 hours is totally fine if your feeling hungry sooner than the 3-4 hour suggestion that is listed in the book. Also, up your fat intake to help the hunger situation - you may not be getting enough. Remember, fats are not limited this first week!
Good advice...will give it a try. Feeling like I could use like 5g of carbs right now!

New studies show that antibiotics don't always even help ear infections- so it may take awhile- good idea to take her back to the doctor- let us know!!

Did you read the post about your being the age of my kids? Still can't believe it!

The way things are going, I should really be careful, as my panties are too big- I am digging for the old ones that didn't fit until recently, as they fit so much better (sorry TMI).

Didja read Alissa's great news?

I am giddy- it's just such a relief you are OK and back with us- I was worried you never came back from that first doctor's visit- car accident, whatever, and we would never know- or, the way you are going, you may have slid down the drain after a shower

Tam~~ I'm getting a visual on the panties inching their way down past the hem of your skirt as you're nonchalantly strolling down the street. Alissa lost her pants too!

Hi Myshell

Wendy Chant does not like Soy Protein. Here is what she said :

Why isn't soy allowed on the program? Soy protein promote the release of the wrong type of estrogens in the body. These unhealthy estrogens don't attach to receptors properly and float in the body and attract fat and increase the risk of estrogen bound cancers like breast and colon cancer. More cancers are also now being linked to these same bad estrogens. Some of the problem with these estrogens can be linked to poor cultivation practices

She says cows milk should be saved for carb up days.

What are you using the Soy Milk for? Your coffee? You can have a small amount of whipping cream in your coffee.

Also, many of us do use Atkins premade ready to drink shakes and they are soy. We are still losing.

I personally try to limit soy as much as possible but did enjoy my first Atkins Mocha Latte shake today. Yum.

Welcome

Lisa

I had to share...one of my dear friends from college just sent this to me :)

It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.

I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry.

The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health.
He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease.

As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?'

He smiled as he patted my hand and said, 'She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is.'

I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, 'That is the kind of love I want in my life.'

True love is neither physical, nor romantic.

True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.

I hope you share this with someone you care about. I just did.

Week 5, Day 1

Wow, here I am, week 5 day 1. I am down about 9 pounds as of this morning! 9 pounds in 4 weeks is not bad. I plan on measuring again the end of the week. I didn't' measure until week 3. I enjoyed my carb up day with things that shouldn't be spoken while Week 1ers are about.

I have a question about the pumpkin muffin and I know it's been asked and answered and i apologize, but does the pumpkin count as just a veggie? I've been eating the regular muffin with 4T of flax meal, seems like subbing out 2T of that for 2T of pumpkin would balance out.

Here's a muffin making tip if you haven't thought of it already: mix the dry ingredients up ahead of time, store in a plastic bag, mix it up a little and then scoop out the amount you need when you want it. Makes my mornings SO much easier.

Wendy

So happy for you Alissa. Hope all goes well with the offer. It's in God's hands for sure. I guess Connie is now in Hawaii! I hope she has fun - it's a beautiful place, for sure. My DH and I will be going to Oahu tomorrow for a few days. Trying to make sure I stay on plan since this is Accelerated Week 5. There is a carb up on Wed. so that helps.

Sounds like everyone is doing fairly well - this is such a forgiving plan - I'm sure I'll be way behind in my reading, not sure if we have internet access at our hotel.

Added some protein powder to my peanut butter today. Tasted great on EZ english muffin. Not sure if both pieces of muffin are one serving, but it sure kept me full until lunch.

Keep crackin you cuties. Aloha

Hello Ladies!
I'm back from the land of the lost! I've been off program for a few weeks Just couldn't seem to stick to it with 3 classes, part time work, student teaching, bla bla bla... Well, I'm up 7.5 lbs, totally disgusted with myself, and ready to kick some butt! I'm going to do a short carb down week, then move into and extended week 2 and take it from there. Alissa, you look fantastic! Great picture, and good luck with the house! Kelley17, sorry to hear about your little one. Have you thought about staggering Tylenol with the Motrin to keep the edge off? Poor thing, it's heartbreaking when the little ones are hurting!! Hello to everyone who has joined while I've been away! Has Mary Mc been around? How's her hubby?

Hi...I had a different version of this tonight- Broccoli Basil Soup:
Cut up the whole head of broccoli (including the stalks)
Sautee it with garlic and olive oil.
Add Chicken Broth.
Cook it well...very soft.
Throw it into a food processor to puree, adding lots fresh basil to it.
It comes out this awesome bright green color and tastes great...very fiber-y and thick...you don't really need to add any cream...it is creamy on it's own.

This is how it was told to me...not sure of exact amounts of anything but I think you can play around with the broth to get the right consistency.

Congrats, Alissa! Also, in this real estate market I am sure you will be able to get yourself a great deal and a great house!!! Way to go.I also empathize with what you say about your ex and the memories that visited you. I am sure what you had with him was absolutely great at some point and I am sure you loved him very much. It has to be sad and bittersweet.

Hi again. My plan this morning was to read all the posts (at work) before I took my mom to the doctor. Her leg has been swollen from the knee down for weeks and we were getting worried that it did not go away/ I left work at 10 and figured I would be back by noon. Instead the doctor sent us to the emergency room thinking it could be blood clots that could move to her heart. So we spent the rest of the day in the emergeny room waiting for tests and the doctor. Did not get home until 5 p.m. I had a snack at 10 and did not have any lunch or other food until we got home. The good news is there were no blood clots, but there is a cyst behind the knee. So my new plan is to read all the posts before bed and be caught up tomorrow.

Hope everyone's day went well.

Talk to you later.

Sara

I have a question about the pumpkin muffin and I know it's been asked and answered and i apologize, but does the pumpkin count as just a veggie? I've been eating the regular muffin with 4T of flax meal, seems like subbing out 2T of that for 2T of pumpkin would balance out.

Here's a muffin making tip if you haven't thought of it already: mix the dry ingredients up ahead of time, store in a plastic bag, mix it up a little and then scoop out the amount you need when you want it. Makes my mornings SO much easier.

It comes out this awesome bright green color and tastes great...very fiber-y and thick...you don't really need to add any cream...it is creamy on it's own.

This is how it was told to me...not sure of exact amounts of anything but I think you can play around with the broth to get the right consistency.

Kelley and Renee, I was reading the posts and tIsaw what Jerri said about the difference between high carb and carb up, I hink I screwed up my high carb day. I had wine and mashed potatos. I did not realize it was only approved carbs. Plus I only ate 3 meals thinking it was a cheat day. I was going to make Friday the high carb day because I had wine and pizza and dessert, and Saturday my cheat day since I was going out. So they were both not good. Guess I should read the book again.

Alissa...I'm so glad everything went through without a hitch! Hope your offer goes through for your house too. You and the kids definitely deserve to celebrate...if not tonight, maybe tomorrow night after your offer's accepted. They must be so excited too.

The ending of a marriage (and all the hopes and dreams for your future together) is always sad. I know after my divorce, I felt the same way...felt cheated out of my "happily ever after". I wanted someone in my life I could grow old with with unconditional love. Thankfully I have found that late in life and feel blessed each day that we have together. I have no doubt (being the warm and wonderful woman you are) that a very special someone will be in your life someday also.

Questions about the Diet

Hey Everyone~

I started the diet for the 3rd time on Saturday...So I am on Day 3....its soo difficult...all I want to do is eat carbs! I have a couple of q's.

-Where does exercise play in the program...I have been doing 1.5 hours of cardio since I started...but I am not sure that I should be doing that much in Week 1?
-Coming from a science background, I am a bit confused as to why you would first want to deplete your glycogen stores and then in Week 2...you would be adding glycogen back into the system?? Thanks!
