Water Challenge?

I missed something- saw the "dare"- but how much water are we talking about, pray tell... couldn't find that...

Wouldn't that be nice?! I wish there were at least one of you near Raleigh to hang out with!

My husband and I put hardwoods in our house after we bought it two years ago. It's so helpful with the 3 dogs. I will never, ever, ever do it ourselves again, though. I grew up on a farm so I'm used to hard work - this was just crazy though. We still have carpet in our bedroom and the walkway at the top of the stairs that I'd like to get rid of. The dogs sleep there and it's never completely clean no matter how much I clean them.

Great idea!

OH! Tam, good to see you. I hadn't known about the no electricity stuff. i bet that's nice though - I enjoy unplugging sometimes and forcing the kids to.
Hi, Pam!
Are you talking about Raleigh, SC? My DH is from Ridgeland- is that close?
We have ceramic tile throughout the house- just a 6" by 9" Oriental rug in the Living room, which quickly gets stained from the kids and grandkids... and a strip of rug in front of the kitchen sinks which is easier than tile to stand on, and keeps the floor much cleaner... can't imagine having carpets, especially in this dusty and tropical climate. The floors do have to be washed at least once a week....
Yes, unplugging is great- we have timers for the lights, a/c, etc, and don't use the phones, computers, etc- cook everything in advance and leave it on a hotplate. We rest, have big family meals, pray, and catch up on our reading. It's great- rest without guilt, though with all the prep, and having the kids, grandkids and guests, I sometimes finish the weekend more tired than I started. Wouldn't give it up for the world!

My plea for advice was about making it better and more effective....

Thanks- for me those pretzels can just blow me up!
The masochist is off to weigh..... I know- that's insane- can't help it!

It's lonely here with all of you asleep, and my day has just begun! Sunday is a regular day here, and soooo hard to start!
Tam - I think you can have your fruit before 3 pm! Go for it. Remember drink that water it is so helpful when we bloat!

Kelley– I just do the tae-bo basic for now but I do have the advanced tape. I just need to keep moving so I don’t get a cramp in my back (like when I am walking/jogging) and billy blanks moves all over the place. Enjoying it so far but ohhh, the burning legs! Feels good though, then I know I have done something good for myself, no pain no gain. I might be able to order the flour online, I will have to check into it but I can’t order the actual bread because customs likes to hold things up and it might go moldy.
I think basic Tae Bo is pretty killer! The important thing is you keep moving and burn those calories! EWWWW about the bread

I went to bed around 10-30 - 11 PM with full stomach at last (not a good thing). I don't know why - maybe I have to change the foods a bit. I bought this big tub of pre-made chicken salad at Costco (all white meat and barely any mayo) and I had it yesterday as my lunch. For dinner I had salad with all the usual suspects (incl. broccoli) and a large omelet (yes, for dinner ) with shiitake mushrooms and salsa. It just seemed like it went right thru me.

My snacks were Atkins shake (on the road at 11 am), 2 spoons of Almond butter (3:30 pm - I was crazily hungry at that moment), cottage cheese at 9 pm (still hungry) and chicken white meat (probably 3 oz) at 10 pm!!!!

Well, at least I didn't go for the second half of that pint of ice cream that I have stashed from my carb up feast.

DRANK A TON OF WATER. Worked out for an hour as well.

What's up with that? Oh, I think TOM is coming any second now (late for some reason this time). Could that be the case?

I just hate that. I don't want to be hungry and I felt sort of helpless last night (although in control of my good senses).
I have days were I'm ravenous too. Did you see that post about pigging out every 18 days is good for your body. Maybe your body is telling you something?

Question for all of you who do callanetics. Do you have to have the bar to do it and how hard is it to get the right 'positions'? It seems like you have to do it just right for it to work and I'd hate to be doing it wrong for a long time without realizing it.

Pam
Pam - I use my kitchen chair for the floor hip/bun and inner thigh and a bar stool for the standing leg stretches. And NO you don't need to do it just right to get the benefits. In fact it is said you can do the exercises 80% incorrect and still get the benefits! When you first start don't worry if your form isn't perfect. Just try to get in correct form and do as many pulses as you can. As your body becomes stronger your body will automatically go into proper form and don't be surprised if they become more difficult at that point because you are working from a different angle.

Tam, that sounds like such a great time. When I was a kid, my parent's holy day was Sunday. They didn't buy anything, they didn't go anywhere, except to church of course. We cooked and had great meals, sometimes with friends over, and then rested before service again Sunday night. Was great. We don't do that now, although my parents still do.

Wendy, sounds good to me. I stated before on this forum that I've often heard you should take your weight, divide it in half, and drink that number in ounces of water each day. So I would need to drink 109 ounces of water
if that is true. I'll join you!
My Goodness, I really don't think I can drink that much in a day. But I can drink more than I am now. I'll try for that much, but wow.
Wendy, I'd be in for a water challenge ... I need to be better about upping my intake.

Well, I'm on Week 3, Day 2. The scale is up about .5 lb from this time last week but I guess that isn't unexpected. I do look smaller so that's good.

Cool, we'll flush some of the .5lb off you

I've had two cups of coffee and 40 ozs of water so far.
I think the Crystal light counts. I do mostly water cause it's what I seem to be able to down the quickest.

Well I walked, now I'm off to do errands and deliver cookies to my twins who are in need of calories. I'll drink ANOTHER glass of water before I shower.

How neat. We are considering going up for Christmas and surprising them. They are not expecting us at all this year. We surprised our daughter last year, but she knows our car has over 268,000 miles on it and we probably wouldn't do it this year! So, this year we'll surprise them all!

starting again and have questions

Hi guys,
I started WC about a month ago and almost made it thru week one. I have since bought the DVD and have been lurking here to watch your success so I've decided to start tomorrow. I have a different mindset this time as I see that week one is very crucial to stick to it by the book. I plan to keep it simple and post my menu on the menu board daily. I've watched the DVD only up to week 2 as I will watch it weekly. I pray that this can be my answer to a WOE that I can handle for a lifetime.

Although I need not be concerned about this in week one,I do have some questions as to when certain foods are allowed.

1. I notice that some are using flaxseed meal. At what stage is flaxseed meal allowed and I presume that as some are doing the 1 min muffuf that it is a 2T serving and is it considered a fat?
2. How about milk and yogurt, are they only allowed on carb up meals?

I look forward to getting to know you all and will start day 1 tomorrow.

Cool! I live in the Ann Arbor area, about 2.5 hours from Grand Rapids and about 45 minutes from Toledo. When my DH and I were first married we lived in Lansing, about 45 minutes from GR.

Jackie – yep, I have a problem in my wrist which prevents me from kneading my own dough so I use a bread machine to do my kneading. Oh my, I guess I have been lacking in the water department, I will have to drink 107 litres of water! Yikers! Since I slept in today I don’t think I will be able to get that much in but I do have a large water jug which hold 75oz and I try to get that in everyday. I will do the challenge too! Also started a challenge at curves and it is “don’t gain weight over the holidays” – original name, I know. So we will be weighed every week from now until Dec. 15th and then our name will go in a draw if we don’t gain weight. Thought it might keep me motivated. Also, do you have any good recipes for sweet things I can make that my family will like and I can have? It is going to be a killer doing xmas baking and not eating it, especially with my mom here, she makes the bestest cookies ever! Sorry, I am really babbling now Jackie!

Vladis – I was having no trouble at all and this last week I have felt like you, starving. I had a cheat day when there wasn’t one (I am on week 3 second time around) and last night I was starving so had hummus and 100 calorie ritz crackers and cereal. So, I was mad at myself – at least you ate according to plan – so i discovered not all was lost cause today is supposed to be my carb up day, so switched and today is my carb down. I know I am not supposed to even have cereal on a carb up (only approved carbs) but I figured switching was better than doing nothing about it and feeling so guilty. TOM is around the corner and I noticed my stress levels are soaring as I am having some trouble with DD soon to be 15. She has been such a great kid, totally mommy’s girl and now it is like she hates me. Had a major blow out last night and the old me would eat it away so I think I reverted a bit but managed to stop before it was an actual binge. I am going to have to work on that some more. It is hard to change 20 years of eating habits in a few months but I am going to give it my best try.

Boy, I just have way too much to say today.

Linda – very interesting carb list. That would be helpful for sure for the first week.

Nina – my girls just got “into” horses last summer. They rode a bit the summer before (their aunt keeps her horses at our place) but last spring they decided to join horse 4-H and the local barrel racing club. Their aunt is an awesome rider and has taught them so much and then the 4-H to fine tune it is great. They also did gymkhana all summer and loved it. If they are going to show again, I will have to hire a private instructor so they know exactly what to expect and what they should/shouldn’t be doing. I know they will be doing barrel racing again, it is so exciting. My DD14’s horse jumps as we discovered in the summer. Not sure where to go with that either. We don’t even have our own horse trailer . . . I guess we will have to break down and buy one. Borrowed one last year but you can’t do that forever. Just didn’t want to buy one if they were going to lose interest. I think they have the “bug” now! PS – did you know riding horses burns calories – maybe I ought to try (I am scared to death of them). Where do you live in Ontario? I was born in Tillsonburg. Also, congrats on your drowning! (in your pants)

I'm BACK!!!

Hi Ladies! WOW, aren't we all just a bunch of Chatty Cathy's!!!

I'll try to catch up with posts later...I feel like I have been saying that all week!

Kelley!! You always impress me with your personals even in this ever expanding group I sent you an email...planning to succeed this week

TAM!!! I miss our late night (well for me...early for you) chats with Connie!!! She will be back in a week!

Vlad...I am indeed human...and you all should get my lesson...NO OOPSIE IN FOOD CHOICE WILL RUIN YOUR PROGRAM!! There is always a fix Please remember NO GUILT!!!

Wendy! Great water challenge idea...remember the rule of thumb...1/2 of your bode weight in ounces of water does not include the extra water you need if you are exercising!! I am in for 110 oz per day. Coffee, tea and Crystal light DO NOT count towards water consumption...can't remember where I read that but it is in the book I believe. However, correct me PLEASE if I am mistaken!

and to all my friends!!

I AM NOW OFF TO THE GYM FOR MY 3.5 MILE RUN AND WEIGHTS FOR LOWER AND UPPER!

~Alissa
But you see, I don't crave anything in particular I really think it's TOM. How can you eat 7 times a day and be hungry????

maybe if I gave in and had something sweet that would have done the trick but I really was afraid to open that Pandora's box

Vladis...I started on week one while I was PMSing and I had the exact same cravings you are describing. Maybe I should have waited to start this until next week, but I am at the end of week one now and I did okay (I know I lost weight). I was just sooo hungry. On one day I think I ate 8 meals...really just a few extra Protein/Fat/veggie snacks, like celery sticks and and cheese or leftover chicken with mayo. I was ready to eat my arm. Guess that would count as a protein and a fat!
I think the extra fat helped me out, but I think now we have to keep it under 20g for the rest of the 7 weeks? That will be the hardest thing for me. I lost 38 lbs. not counting fat grams on the SP, so it will be hard to pay attention to that now. I can reduce carbs all day long but fat is the thing that kept me feeling like I wasn't on a diet.
I believe the criteria is that it is sprouted grain and flourless. I believe it is also the effect on blood sugar, which is definitely different than other what seem to be similar type breads. I've tested it on myself and I am diabetic. There is a mix you can buy, I posted the link on the recipe thread and you can make it yourself in your bread machine. I really haven't found any place that will ship it to you, but you might check if you have a health food store close and see if they can order it for you if you can't bake it for yourself.

I found a Sprouted 7 Grain Bread by Cybros on Amazon.com. Maybe you can order it there. I also found the people who make EZekial also make cereals and a sprouted pasta...have to give that a try on a carb up day!

3 p.m.?

I am gearing up for week 2 tomorrow and I have a question about the eating a starch before 3 p.m.: I have a weird schedule...no 9-5er here. Sometimes I awake at 10-11 a.m. and work until 2 a.m.. I am wondering what purpose the 3pm limit serves and if it still applies to people with not so normal schedules?

Okay, I have a water question. We have to drink lots of it. And I'm getting the impression that Crystal light on the go added to my water makes it so it doesn't "count?" Is that the case?? What's the big deal about the nutra sweet? Also, I did not enjoy my carb up day yesterday. At all. I felt like I was backsliding by eating a piece of pizza. Monday is going to be my weigh day, and I don't EVEN want to weigh, even tho I've stuck to everything. Also, I feel like my stomach is a little bloaty thanks to the carbs I had. Am I doing this right???

Thanks ladies for your feedback about Thanksgiving. I will take everyone's advice into consideration and decide on what to do that week. We don't do a big Thanksgiving, usually just me and my mom and dad (brothers go to spouse's families), so I would rather splurge on the Friday instead. I had a totally low carb Thanksgiving last year, so this year being able to eat a sweet potato is wonderful.

I got my tail up and went to the gym this morning. I did he C25K week 1 workout. I think I will stick with it for a while.

I am not drowning in my pants yet but I will certainly let everyone know when I am.
I live in Wyoming Ontario inbetween Sarnia and London. Yes I know riding burns calories but for some reason my body is adapted to it so I dont get that much benefit with it. I get some so I will continue (not that I have a choice I have the illness) It is a good sport for kids teaches them responsibility as they have to take care of the horse to do the sport.

Kim - personally I would stay away from nutrasweet as a regular thing - there have been numerous studies about horrible side effects when used in excess. Tremors, migranes, etc...

As for not enjoying the carb up day that is your old way of thinking. Remember there is a science to this and Jerri has told us numerous times not taking advantage of it will backfire.

I STRONGLY ADVISE PEOPLE NOT TO WEIGH FOR AT LEAST 2 DAYS AFTER CARB UP DAY OTHERWISE YOU WON'T GET YOUR TRUE FAT LOSS FOR THE WEEK. You did fine I'm sure - drink more water and the bloat will leave you. It is probably not from the carbs but the excess sodium in your pizza!

Linda - I don't do the muffins so i will let one of the experts answer that one.

As for the milk and yogurt - sorry only on carb up days. Good Luck and Welcome!

Jupiter - I would go with having your starch within the first 8 hours of waking

Thanks Kelley. I figured that was how the milk and yogurt would go. Buy hey,I still get to have it. I'll wait to see if someone can answer me about the flaxseed meal.
