Good Sunday morning to all!

Early Sunday Risers (and our hangover friends )!

I hope you are having a great w/end. I stayed off board yesterday as I felt I was way to chatty the other day and it was time for me to shut up and let other people talk As a result - too much to catch up so I will just say howdy-reply to the latest posts.

Val, I love the fact that you are so super duper organized. And, I love that your family supports you. Please pass it on to your Dad and your brother - good for them for being so considerate and helpful. I am sure they know how important what you are doing is to you.

Oh, Linda, I've been there so many times The older I get the longer it takes to shake it off and recover. So it's just 1-2 glasses of wine for me now. I used to just get carried away when I was having fun. I think if someone poured gasoline into my glass I would have drunk it just the same - it was the fun and friends, and happiness that made me most drunk. For some reason I think you are the same way

Rx - LOTS OF WATER and, optional, greasy foods

I am in. Although, according to Alissa's hydration calculator, I drank too much water. I actually had to cut down and watch myself. Now I fill 5 34oz bottles and stop when I am done with the 5th (before I could down 10-12!!!!! - nutcase that I am)

Wendy, I'd be in for a water challenge ... I need to be better about upping my intake.

Well, I'm on Week 3, Day 2. The scale is up about .5 lb from this time last week but I guess that isn't unexpected. I do look smaller so that's good.

I'm off to run some errands today, including getting DD a pair of boots. It has been snowing here. Nothing has stuck so far but it's a sign that I need to get on the ball with winter preparations.

Have a good day, all!

Strange day yesterday

I think first time on this plan I had weird cravings last night. I wouldn't even say "cravings", I was hungry. Yes, I ate often - 7:15, 11, 2, 3:30, 6:30, 9 and 10 (7!!!!!! meals/snacks). I went to bed around 10-30 - 11 PM with full stomach at last (not a good thing). I don't know why - maybe I have to change the foods a bit. I bought this big tub of pre-made chicken salad at Costco (all white meat and barely any mayo) and I had it yesterday as my lunch. For dinner I had salad with all the usual suspects (incl. broccoli) and a large omelet (yes, for dinner ) with shiitake mushrooms and salsa. It just seemed like it went right thru me.

My snacks were Atkins shake (on the road at 11 am), 2 spoons of Almond butter (3:30 pm - I was crazily hungry at that moment), cottage cheese at 9 pm (still hungry) and chicken white meat (probably 3 oz) at 10 pm!!!!

Well, at least I didn't go for the second half of that pint of ice cream that I have stashed from my carb up feast.

DRANK A TON OF WATER. Worked out for an hour as well.

What's up with that? Oh, I think TOM is coming any second now (late for some reason this time). Could that be the case?

I just hate that. I don't want to be hungry and I felt sort of helpless last night (although in control of my good senses).

Even drunk I did warn them it was just a D day and not to think I'm back to eating out after every class.

Vladis I think it's just "old cravings" hitting you. I was vacuming out the car yesterday and suddenly I wanted and ice cold pepsi. Just hit me. I just laughed and told myself yes you could go get one but then you no you'll be disappointed in yourself. I did not give in but it was a strong urge.

But you see, I don't crave anything in particular I really think it's TOM. How can you eat 7 times a day and be hungry????

maybe if I gave in and had something sweet that would have done the trick but I really was afraid to open that Pandora's box

P.S. thank you for your previous post. It's very helpful. I have my own FAQ (Word doc always open on my desktop). When I see something I like and think will be useful I just copy it. I get to lazy to go to our FAQ plus some Q and A don't make it there so I copy whatever I feel is relevant to my interests/progress right away.

Morning Vladis, Linda (Always Dancin')

Linda, glad you are up and doing great this morning! You sound better! I've had 1/2 quart of water so far this morning, on my way to 3 quarts plus a pint!

Vladis: Do you have the address for that hydration calculator?

"B" day for me too! Week 5 starts tomorrow. I had a major body shift last night. I wrote about it on my blog too. Abdomen went way down in one night! Amazing! My shirt has lots of wrinkles across the belly as I look down at it instead of being stretched tightly across my abdomen!

Is that myspace address in your siggy line your blog?

I have been showing horses since I was a kid so I can make them behave and your kids will be able too if they keep at it. You are doomed if they are starting to show they have the illness and I dont think it is curable I am 44 and still have it I started when I was 12.
Nina – ohhh, what a great looking horse. I see you do shows, my girls did their first one last year but didn’t have a clue what they were doing. Great experience and they learned a lot. They prefer the barrels, pole bending and trail part of the show not the dress-up – ride-good – make your horse behave part. Where is the cowboy smiley?? You can freeze the leftover pumpkin, maybe put enough for a few days in each freezer bag/container and then just take it out when you need it.

Wouldn't that be nice?! I wish there were at least one of you near Raleigh to hang out with!

My husband and I put hardwoods in our house after we bought it two years ago. It's so helpful with the 3 dogs. I will never, ever, ever do it ourselves again, though. I grew up on a farm so I'm used to hard work - this was just crazy though. We still have carpet in our bedroom and the walkway at the top of the stairs that I'd like to get rid of. The dogs sleep there and it's never completely clean no matter how much I clean them.

Great idea!

I think I ate a little too many sweets yesterday at carb up. :/ Ah well. I'm never sure because it all just feels so 'wrong'. Little one wanted to make a strawberry pie, so we did and I had a slice of that. Then had sushi for dinner out with hubby and a couple glasses of wine then some chocolate covered pretzels after while we watched a movie (in our van out in the driveway! How weird is that?! It was actually my idea and quite fun! Quiet, peaceful, private and kinda romantic

I made a new idea for breakfast this morning. Mom used to make this yummy enchilada casserole thing. So I made a breakfast one instead. Sauteed onions, sliced mushrooms and little cubes of low-fat ham (that you can buy already in tiny cubes at the store). Added that to eggs and egg beaters (can't stand egg beaters alone, blech) in a bowl. Mixed up fat-free cream of chicken soup, a little half and half, italian seasoning, a dash of dill and a little water to thin it out (didn't want to use too much half and half) in another bowl. Layered EZ tortilla, egg mixture, soup mixture, shredded italian cheese and sliced tomato then repeat ending in the soup/cheese/tomatoes on top. Ended up with just two EZ tortillas total in the whole dish. Baked at 400 for about 30 mins. Hubby said he really loved it (he'd def'ly tell me if he didn't...lol)

Off to grocery shop and I really should run today since I didn't Friday or Saturday :/ It's sunny, but cool, so perfect day for it!

Pam

OH! Tam, good to see you. I hadn't known about the no electricity stuff. i bet that's nice though - I enjoy unplugging sometimes and forcing the kids to.

Are there any brands that I can substitute for EZ bread? I did find some at the health food store yesterday, and I'm willing to use it, but I also found some LaTortilla High fiber tortillas there that actually have less "active carbs" than EZ bread. Is that the criteria? Or are we not supposed to substitute anything for the EZ bread (except what's on the list).

I know I can use the other brands as SA on carb-up days, but was just curious.

Thank you, Linda. All those M A S names were hard to come up with. You know what is so funny? When our oldest daughter, Rosemary, had her first child 16 years ago, her name was Mique (mickey) Adeline. Mique was the little one who passed away at 3.5 months. So, all of our granddaughters had M A names. They didn't realize this until much later.
My husband's family are all "M_L" too. Merrick (my hubby), Mike, Mitchell, Mitch and Marian are their names, then we named our DD Maia Lynn (same middle name as her daddy

Question for all of you who do callanetics. Do you have to have the bar to do it and how hard is it to get the right 'positions'? It seems like you have to do it just right for it to work and I'd hate to be doing it wrong for a long time without realizing it.

I believe the criteria is that it is sprouted grain and flourless. I believe it is also the effect on blood sugar, which is definitely different than other what seem to be similar type breads. I've tested it on myself and I am diabetic. There is a mix you can buy, I posted the link on the recipe thread and you can make it yourself in your bread machine. I really haven't found any place that will ship it to you, but you might check if you have a health food store close and see if they can order it for you if you can't bake it for yourself.

I like fall/winter the best also, although spring is really close. I'm just not much of a really hot summer person. Although that may change once this weight comes off and I can run around half naked!

Is that the criteria? Or are we not supposed to substitute anything for the EZ bread (except what's on the list).

I know I can use the other brands as SA on carb-up days, but was just curious.
Actually, I forgot that you said you found the EZ bread in the first line of your post. I bet the store you found it in could get the tortillas in for you if you asked. I used to manage a health food store in Indy and we would alway order stuff for our customers.

Question for all of you who do callanetics. Do you have to have the bar to do it and how hard is it to get the right 'positions'? It seems like you have to do it just right for it to work and I'd hate to be doing it wrong for a long time without realizing it.

Pam
Pam,

I do callanetics and I use a...step ladder (3 steps hight). It is perfect as a barre. If you don't have one at home - I'd buy it because you always need it around (well, I am a shortie 5'2"" so I always do )

For Open and Close I use my stationary bike (holding on to it for dear life, as Callan says)

Pam: You should put that recipe on the recipe thread so we can access it easily. It sounds really good!

My Shake

I have to tell you about the shake I just made. I had a vanilla Atkins shake and I added 1/8th tsp ginger, 1/8th tsp cinnamon and 1/16th (approx. cause I don't have one) tsp nutmeg and 1/4th tsp vanilla to my vanilla shake, whisked it up and voila, IT WAS DELICIOUS! I let Ken taste it and he kept trying to come back for more! I told him to "Stay away from my perfectly measured shake!"

I'll make him his own. I'm still trying to get him to read the book so he can understand why we are doing what we are doing!

Oh, by the way, I found some pure rum extract today on the Watkins site. Not an imitation supposedly!

Pam - if you do the Callanetics Evolution, you don't need a bar. Also, if you peruse the Callanetics threads here, I believe there are some alternative positions that were posted by instructors.

Thanks, Jackie. There's a new (and bigger) health food store on my way home from work. I'm going to stop in there one day this week.

I was just curious about the actual nutrient criteria. I don't want to get all anal about it, but also don't want to sabotage myself. I'll stick to the EZ products for now.

That is my myspace address but I blogged on this board. Up at the top of the page next to User Control Panel. I found that I can save it as a draft and add to it each day. At the end of the week, I'll submit it and then start on the following week. I'm going to read your blog about the shift. That is really great!

Ok, count me in on the water challenge. I can do that easily. I use Crystal light about twice a day. Can I count that or is that extra, like tea and coffee? Are we going to post everything we drink during the day? I know, too many questions at once.
I've had two cups of coffee and 40 ozs of water so far.

I don't think you can count crystal light because of the sweetener used in it. Nothing that contains sugar, artificial sweetener, caffeine, things like that is my understanding for water intake. Decaffeinated tea can be claimed as long as it is unsweetened.

I need some advice. I will be in week # 5 the week of Thanksgiving. My problem is that I plan to go on a girl's weekend shopping trip on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving. I am not sure what I should do. I almost would rather have my carb up day on that Friday so that I can enjoy eating dinner out. I think I can manage Thanksgiving as a carb down day. Does anyone have any menu suggestions to help me with this? Also does this plan look right for a Week # 5?

M-Carb down
T-Carb down
W-Carb up
Th-Carb down
F-Carb up
S-Baseline
S-Baseline?

Please give me feed back on this schedule for the week.
Do a mini carb deplete no starches but any veggie you want on wed - do your carb up or cheat on thurs and then the opposite on fri. baselline on sat and maybe carb down on sun. You've got to modify for holidays. Enjoy your girlfriend time!
