Jackie - thanks for this post. I was thinking that a carb-up day would be best going out because then I wouldn't have "extra" helpings hanging around in my fridge. Always a problem for me, as I live alone. I guess I'll have to plan out some single-serving meals for those days.

Question to all: There is no way I'm going to be able to go back and read all the threads, so tell me - What kind of success are you having on this WOE? Are you here mainly to lose weight? Or are you just into healthier eating? Maintaining?

Just curious.
Hi Linda (gibster)~~I never had a problem with eating healthy but just not enough of healthy and more of the bad stuff. I started this WOE to lose weight and the bonus was learning how to make healthier choices. AND I love the fact that after I'm at what I consider a healthier weight, taking into consideration my age and body type, I can be on the maintenance forever. I am enjoying it very much, my energy level is high and I am getting back into an exercise routine. I haven't measured this week, I might wait until after week 5. As of last Saturday I had lost 10 lbs and 5 inches.

I went to a Murder Mystery dinner last night, where we all played roles. I was Rosie Marie, the owner of The Juice Joint, an illegal speakeasy during the prohibition in the 1920's. There were 7 other people playing roles, and it took us 2 hours, lots of laughs, great eats, and super playacting to figure out who the murderer was. None of us was right, except the one person who knew he was the murderer. It was like participating in a live play without a script - the ad libbing was hilarious! The one guy who played a gangster was so funny! I wore a 1920's style low-waist black dress with a red satin sash and a rose at the hip. I made the dress after school Friday! And Thursday night I crocheted a flapper-style cloche (hat) and pinned another satin rose on the side of it. (Well, "Rosie" HAD to wear roses, didn't she?) The cloche is so cute, I think I'll make another one. I usually look stupid in hats, but I like that way this one looks. Anyways, it was a riot and worth the bad eating (which wasn't really that bad except for the pasta and dessert - and on a carb down day! I planned poorly, but I can fix it. That's the beauty of CTFLC. You can make a mistake, forgive yourself, fix it, and move on! Have a happy Saturday!
What fun! I'd love to do a mystery dinner like that!

Try putting your cottage cheese into the blender or food processor and process it a little. You can also add some vanilla or other flavorings to change the taste up somewhat too. Blending it makes it more of a "farmers cheese" like consistency. When you have blended it, you can also add a beaten egg to it, a little salt, some vanilla and some agave nectar (or 1 couple packets of splenda) and then put it into a Pam sprayed small baking dish and bake it for a delicious side dish. We've used this quite often. You just want to bake it for approximately 15 - 20 minutes. I'll put the recipe on the thread.

Yes, that can be a problem, but as Kelley said, put the leftovers in the freezer, or put them in a container and then put the date on them that you will use them for a lunch or dinner later. Remember, you only have 3 days between carb up days, so it won't be too long that you have to wait. I think freezing is the better idea though. You can really get some of those great freezer containers and go straight from freezer to the microwave.

I am here to lose weight. In 3 weeks I have lost 12 pounds. 10.5 the first, .5 the second, 1 the third. I am thrilled! Last night my husband decided to share with me that my body was smaller lying on the massage table. He said my skin wasn't so tight, it was pliable. That is a great feeling.

I have been a healthy eater ever since we went to massage therapy school. Yes, I'm a massage therapist too, but I don't enjoy it. It's not what I love to do, but nutrition is and that I began to learn about in massage therapy school. We eat very healthy, we just have always eaten too much, and eaten things at the wrong time of the day. There is a lot of supposedly healthy "junk" food out there for healthy eaters.

Question time again

Ack! the book is confusing me again! Under "Type SA Requirements and Substitutions", it says that the items with an asterisk are allowed after Day 7, but it's best to wait until Week 4. All other starches can be consumed on any carb-up day. Is this (other starches) referring to the "S" group, or to the other non-asterisked SA foods?

But -- in the "Notes for Meal Plan D" it says that Sweets, Starches and Alcohol are allowable after day 7, but for best results do not eat these foods until after day 21. (It doesn't specify the "asterisked" foods, but seems to refer to "all" foods on the SA list.

Which is correct? Am I making any sense at all?

I'll be starting Week 2 tomorrow, so I want to plan my "D" day correctly.

Hello again, and Looking for maintenance advice....

Hi, Jackie, Pam, Kelley, Alissa,
I am fine, Thank G-d!
Just a reminder- I don't post from Fri. late afternoon my time (though Fridays I usually don't have time to look at the computer after 8AM because of Sabbath prep...) until Sat. nite, as it is our Jewish Sabbath and we don't use anything electric, etc., that includes computers, phones, cooking, cleaning, etc. A day of rest.... so don't worry about me- I rested !
Had the most sane carb-up day so far- couldn't even finish my marshmallows (we split a bag my mom sent over with the kids)- I'll have some M5 with some hot cocoa.... water based with a bit of milk... Usually I eat from all the junk we have around Saturdays- didn't speak to me- had a tea and some almonds... Even at the meals when I usually eat much more.
I've been frustrated at the stalled weight and was worried my carb up day would be disasterous, but I didn't really want anything extra.

Been cutting down on the sweetener- had stevia in my muffin yesterday, only one shake, and a bit of sugar in my tea last night. Today only a bit of no carb chocolate with PB in the morning with my coffee- (Sabbath morning treat- we have a big brunch at about 11am and I need something to carry me over....)no more sweetener the rest of the day, and just 1/2 t. sugar in my tea.
I think my chronic headache is a bit better, but am not sure yet....

So happy about the house! Be careful about plumbing- my mother's house has terrible problems to this day (15 yrs later...) - the sellers definitely knew about it...she put in a new kitchen when she moved in and it started smelling moldy right away.... and she's had countless floods.... good you are on top of things...

Hey, Gibster! Good morning!

What it says is that *asterisked (Alcohol, Cake, Ice Cream and sugar pastries) are best to be eaten after week 3, however it says that "All the other starches listed on any carb up day when indicated on your meal planner."

I think you just missed the word "listed" when you read it.

Hope this helps.

I posted the baked cottage cheese side dish on the recipe thread, and accidentally on the menu thread too!

You are the cutest couple- In the beginning I thought you were newly married, and was surprised when you wrote you've been married 35(is that correct?) years. You're still "into each other"- we're like that after 30, but I thought it was rare....
Yes, I have a few relatives that are "healthy eaters" or "vegetarians" and are sooo overweight...
I lost my first measurements, and am very frustrated. I noticed my thigh skin is looser, but am worried that at our weight I will start sagging- interesting you say it's a good thing!
Good to have the same person measure you each time. My last gym had different people doing it, and it was not precise at all- each person did a slightly different place, and tension...

Any input about why I am not losing weight? Still under 6 lbs... I'm not working out enough (only twice a week), but still, I don't think that's the only reason...

How about water, Tam? It is very important. Some people are so insulin resistant and carb sensitive. The water really helps with that. I've often heard that you should take your body weight divided by 2 and drink that number in ounces per day if you are carb sensitive.

and, for those people, they really need to eat every 2 hours.

Better Body Basics - T-Tapp.com for that sagging skin. She is amazing!

P.S. I get no kick backs from her, it is just a great workout!

I drink like a fish- at least 10 cups of water, and cofee, decaf and shakes on top of that.
Not sagging yet.... just worried about it. I do Pilates - it's great!

Just in case you are gone longer than 2 days, the week is like this:

Monday, carb down; Tuesday, carb down; Wednesday, baseline; Thursday, baseline; Friday, carb down; Saturday, carb up; Sunday, baseline.

Don't forget to get in all your water while you are gone. Very important.

Have a great trip!

Thanks for that schedule...~
Just wanted to mention that I finally finished Week 1...Got on the scale in the morning...and lost 13 lbs ...wow...im impressed with myself...although I know 75% of that is water weight...its still nice to see that smaller number....
I was almost afraid to eat oatmeal in the morning today to start Week 2...but I realize that I have to do the plan as Wendy planned it to get the most results...(For awhile last night, I was thinking of continuing with Week 1 again but realized it was a bad idea)....Thanks guys for all your support! Keep losing those pounds!

yummmmmmy, I'd probably eat it as dessert. Kind of a mock cheesecake.

I put a homemade apple pie in my feezer before I started this WOE. I got out a piece and will splurge tonight. I just had croutons on my spinach and grilled chicken salad. Wow, it's amazing how good they tasted and they were the low fat ones. Cleaning and listening to my oldies station and dancing around the house with the dogs. Life is good!

week 5 day 6

Congratulations BBGirl, you are on your way!

I was the same wanted to do week 1 till I made my goal. I do force myself to stick to the plan so I know I did everything correctly. Hard when you are not hungry.

I think I could do two meals a day and be fine. I never ate before 3 or 4 anyway. My weight all came from junk eating in bed when I got home from work at 11:00 that and cokes all day long. Really you can survive on this food plan and gain weight!

Now I wake up early to plan my meals for the day and start meal 1 at 8:00 so I can get all 5 of them in by the end of the day with my class schedule. I am a different person.

Did any of you send Wendy a letter and photo? I did, mainly to tell her thanks, I know I'm not far enough on the program to count but she really has changed my woe and I'm one of her greatful followers.

I just ran home to eat and have to head back for a private, decorating for party tonight and class so see you all some time tonight.

Jackie I'm one of those people you have to sneak the good stuff in when I'm not looking and don't tell me it's in there, I'd rather eat and not know. My mom raised me on chocolate from birth and very proudly told everyone that. I of course was the only one fat in a family of 6 kids, that and tortillas. Now you know my two weakness.

I have found a few types of sprouted grain bread but all were made in a nut facility. I know this has whole grain and not sprouted grain but just wondering how different it is. Thanks.

Also, i have decided that i am still to heavy to do the running program c25k so i am going to try to lose some more weight and give it another try. When i do it, i am almost too sore to go to curves and i really love curves. So i dug out my old tae-bo tape (1/2 hour workout) and i am going to try jumping rope. it burns alot of calories. Only last 5 minutes today and felt like i had two left feet since i haven't done this since i was a kid. I can't believe we used to do that for hours on end and now i can barely manage 5 minutes! I am going to do those exercises on the days i don't have curves. Sorry to the c25k people but i will try again in a few months to see how it goes. Any other suggestions for alternative exercise?

Hi Kate!

Regarding your substitute bread, can you find out the glycemic index for that "bread"? That might give you a better "comparrison". I'm sorry EZ has been hard for you to get, and i understand your reason for looking for a substitute. However, keep in mind that the substitute is a tweak, I'm not saying NOT to do it, just do it knowing and paying attention to how it may effect your progress

Kate, you don't need to run...but aspiring towards the c25k is a great goal!! Connie posted a walking program on the exercise thread as well...and you sound like you have a great workout program in place and are making great progress

Hope this helps!! Keep up the great work, my friend!

Good plan, bballgirl! You really do not want to do Week 1 over again. Wendy advises against that!

We're having cherry pie tonight for dinner! We just had lunch at an Indian buffet. I was so pleased! I love Indian food. I had maybe 1/4 cup basmati rice, vegetable fritters, chicken tikki masala, creamed spinach, salad, spicy vegetables, 1 small piece tandoori chicken and only 1/2 piece of naan. I felt wonderful afterward and no bloating at all. I did not stuff! YAY!

Here is the EZ sesame bread:

Serving Size: 1 slice
Calories: 80 Calories from fat: 5
Total Fat: 0.5
Sat Fat: 0
Trans Fat: 0
Cholesterol: 0
Sodium: 80 mg
Potassium: 75 mg
Total Carbs: 14 g
Dietary Fiber: 3 g

I don't know how your bread would compare with what it does to your sugar levels compared to how EZ responds. I have barely any flucuation.

Hi Kate~~Val hasn't been able to get the EZ bread either. She was able to buy the flour that has all the ingredients in it to make the bread. Jackie posted a how to make it on the recipe thread. I might try it myself.

Thank you for the responses to my dempsters bread. I dont think it does compare but may be a better choice for the odd "tweak". I am going to the city (i live 2 hours from anywhere!) and i am going to check at the health food store there next weekend. I hope they have something because i really do miss bread and i don't want to tweak too often for fear of over tweaking. One more questions, can someone look on their package to see if their EZ bread is make in a nut free facility? If it contains traces of any kind of nuts, i will have to tweak because i am allergic to them. Thanks.

hi Linda, I did notice she got the flour and i am unable so far to get that either. I will keep trying though. I will look for the flour in the city too. That would be better than nothing. I am on week 3 day 5 (second time around) and i would really like to be able to have some bread.

My Tribe

I forgot to say we met a very nice couple at the table next to us and spent most of our lunch talking with them. It was very nice. The food was delicious and the company was fantastic!

No, Tam, that was no mistake. We have been married for 35 years. I'm trying to upload a picture of our 2 girls and their families, but they are so small you can't see them.

I'll try again.

1st picture is Madyson Andre'a Sinclair 13, 2nd is Maya Anecea Simone 11, 3rd is Maisy Aliya Sheridan 7, 4th is Moriah Ann Soleil 6, and the little one is Aden Keith 3. The last picture is of our two daughters, Rosemary (glasses, the oldest) and Jenny (the mother of the 5 children above.

I'll post a picture of my sons-in-law and my grandson from Rosemary next. This post wouldn't hold them all!

Here's the rest

Here is the rest of the tribe. First photo is of our daughter, Jenny and her husband Keith. Second photo is of our son-in-law Byron (married to Rosemary) and our beautiful grandson, Kaleb. Kaleb is 12. This was a trip they took to Chicago last year.

Kate: It does say made in a facility that also processes tree nuts.

Thank you, Linda. All those M A S names were hard to come up with. You know what is so funny? When our oldest daughter, Rosemary, had her first child 16 years ago, her name was Mique (mickey) Adeline. Mique was the little one who passed away at 3.5 months. So, all of our granddaughters had M A names. They didn't realize this until much later.
