Anyway, thought I'd post and hopefully get to know all of you. Again thanks for getting me through these last few days! I can't wait to report on 11/17 my week 1 results.

Hi and aboard!!

I started last week and doing well. You'll find lots of encouragement and support here...great group. We get nutty at times , but a wealth of information. Glad to hear you've experienced the "shift". You'll be on to Week 2 before you know it!

I just adore my 3 year old grandson....he's a trip! He called me last night, "Bama (that's what my grandkids call me), it's Max....I went poopy on the potty! We can have my Poopy on the Potty party now." I've been promising him this....potty trained for a while but hasn't managed #2 til now

Well, he's spending the night Saturday and we'll get out the old New Year's Eve noise makers and confetti and have our party! Have done that for each of the grandkids. They're just too darn adorable!!

That's too cute! My grandson, Aden, called me when he first went poopy on the potty! He danced and danced for a long time! We always danced when he went pee on the potty, so we did the poopy dance too!

Question.....

The book lists a serving of oatmeal as 1/2 cup dry measure. My steel cut oats list a serving as 1/4 cup. Which do I go with? I've been doing the 1/4 cup this week but sure would love to double it!!

Sherrie, I know they have a lower glycemic index...but to be more comsistent, I would read the nutritional info per serving and compare. If the cal/protein/carb/fiber in 1/4 C steel cut oats is about 1/2 of the 1/2 C Oats...then I think you are safe going to 1/2 cup. If the two different sized servings are "close" and comparable in cal/pro/carb/fiber..then you need to stick with the 1/4 C...IMHO

Back later...my little ones are taking over!

I’m still here!

Alissa – CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR HOUSE! That is great news and I am so happy for you. You deserve to be settled and happy.

Vladis – you made me laugh out loud with your comment about your DH wanting some of your measured out salmon. That has happened to me and I guard my measured food like some kind of wild animal! You are too funny.

Exercise on carb up day – I go to curves Monday, Wednesday & Friday and my carb up day was today so I dug out my dusty old tae bo tape and did a ½ workout. My legs are sore but I kept up pretty darn good. My DD12 was watching (she was supposed to be in bed) and when I gave her heck, she said, I am watching cause you look cool. I think she was secretly laughing at me but didn’t want to hurt my feelings!

Pat – don’t see you on much, how are you doing? Where do you live in Michigan? I used to live in Pontiac, Warren, Dearborn and then Sterling Heights. Then we moved wayyyyy out to western Canada.

Deb – you should be able to get the ground flaxseed at the grocery store or Walmart. I buy the toasted milled flaxseed which has a nutty flavor and is delicious.

Cynthia – thanks for posting your weight loss, it is an inspiration for me as I am on week 3 on my second round. Can hardly wait to get to the end of the cycle again to see how I am doing.

Kelley17 – didn’t realize you were on round 3! Wow, time flies when you are having fun! I really mean that too, without this support group, I would never have made it this far. Good luck in round 3!

Oh my gosh . . . I just got it. When Vladis posted about having the muffin before a weigh in I wondered what she was talking about but when wildcat had a laughing smilie, it finally hit me . . . hehehe how funny you are Vladis!

Tam – sorry to hear about your Aunt and Uncle and what a touching story. It seems like he knew something even without being told.

Bballgirl- have you tried some artificial sweetner and cinnamon with your cottage cheese? It may sound yucky but it is really good. Totally changes the taste and almost like a dessert.

Question – is there anyone that is overweight that isn’t an emotional eater? Just wondering because it seems like there is a lot of us here that have the same problem.

He's been very frail lately so they decided not to tell him she died. He took a turn for the worst yesterday morning, was hospitalized on life support, awakened crying last night (Drs. said his awakening was miraculous), and died this morning. I , and others from the family, am convinced that he sensed something... or his soul did....
It was the saddest funeral (we have the funeral the day of the passing) - their grandaughter who got married last night was there with her groom, a grandson who's bar mitzvah was supposed to be on Monday and was postponed. Children, and grandchildren losing both parents/grandparents the within 3 days of each other...
Whatever... I feel like crying my heart out....
My Dear Tam...Amdist my self focuses frienzy today I missed your story. I am so sorry my dear. What a loss...and not to make light of it...what a joy also. They are together in the place that we are all intended for. His eternity for us is the perfect place where our pains and earthly concerns matter not. Your Aunt and Uncle are whole and complete, together with Him. I know you are a woman of great faith...hold on to that knowledge. Blessing to you and peae be with you my dear, sweet Tam. You are a wonderful Child of God...I am blessed and better for knowing you.

Kate!

You know, there is a huge psychology field behind food and feelings....and the polar oposites of aneroxia and over eating are the same disease manifested in opposite ways. Our society has taught us to use food...we need to teach ourselves to use different, less destructive (in fact NOT destructive) things to sooth and celebrate with. Food should be used when the body is hungry...that is the ONLY time food should be used. Physically speaking.

Lord knows I have this affliction!!!

Blessings dear Kate, nice to "chat" with you

I did not use food for comfort until after i got married. i was always a slim child and teenager. Never had a problem. I figured if DH was going to drink, then i was going to eat. I was so lonely and food made me feel good. Oh, btw, the "D" in DH was not "dear" at that time in our lives but is double "Dear" now. same DH on the outside (minus a bit of hair and plus a bit more weight) but very different on the indside. Even though i did have an overweight dad, he was still very physically fit and none of us had ever used food for a crutch. It came when we were older i guess. Funny how that happens . . . . .
Good morning, LadiesThe board is silent so I have some time to catch up. Whew

You know Julie, I love your idea and that's what I am going to do. I was also thinking to make those menus on index cards (very old-fashioned) - separate breakfast/snack; lunch/snack and dinner/snack and then you can use and re-use them and combine them any which way (like a puzzle). I LOVE your way!!!

Thanks, Vlad! That's my next step - to make interchangeable meal cards and combine them any way. Just haven't gotten there yet. Hey, I can work on that at school because my student teacher is teaching full time and I'm not needed. Well, yes I am, but he's doing a great job. I have time to do other stuff to fill the day. I've been planning future lessons and writing a grant for Science investigation supplies. I even learned (from him) how to use a Smart Board, which is an amazing piece of teaching technology! So I can do some "cracking", too. Thanks for reminding me!

I wish there was a way to post them so I could share them with others who want to use them. Maybe my student teacher can show me how to make a web page and post them there so they can be copied. He can teach this old dog a few new tricks! 54 is not too old to learn!

I'm doing quite well, than you. Healing nicely, not working out yet due to crazy schedule, but plan to start this weekend. I don't mind taking it because it's natural, it's the prescription meds I don't like taking!
I take Toprol for heart palpitations. Stay away from caffeine, too. That sets me off even with the Toprol!

Congratulations, dear girl! Good things come to those who wait on the Lord! You are SOOOOO deserving of this, and you put your trust in the right place. I'm SO happy for you! When is the move? How exciting to be able to spend the holidays in a new home all your own!!!

I missed everyone yesterday. I was at school from 7:00 am til 8:00 pm (parent-teacher conferences, Round 1), and then had to run errands to price items for the budget for a science grant I'm working on. I didn't get home until about 9:30! Crashed on the couch and that was the end of it!

Conferences Round 2 are next Thursday evening, and Round 3 is the Monday night and all day Tuesday of Thanksgiving week. (Then I have Wednesday before Thanksgiving and Friday after Thanksgiving off!) I have so many conferences because there are 95 kids on my team, but there are 4 content area teachers, one student teacher, and an L.D. specialist on the team. It's really great having so many teachers because when a student is having behavioral and responsibility issues, he or she is usually having it with all the teachers and we can all speak about the concerns with the parents. The students are at the conferences, too, because we do some goal setting with them, and they share their goals with their parents. Works nicely! Met some wonderful parents, but I'm concerned about the number of ones that didn't show up!!! They were parents we really need to see, so we're going to have to call them to get them in. Some of them will NEVER show up. That's just what happens. How sad for the kids!

The nice perk that comes with 2 extra nights of conferences is that I get a comp day - a free day off! NICE!

Of course, why didn't I think of that? I did compare and the 1/4 cup serving of steel oats equals the 1/2 cup regular oatmeal in nutrient value. Love my steel oats!

Thanks, Alissa

Good morning, everyone! No workie today for Jackie girl, so I might be able to keep up with all your posts!

I got my massage last night and there was not as much fat in my neck when he went up the side of my neck, that was a great feeling! and also, my belly didn't hang over my sides, plus, when it was time to turn over, I didn't feel like a beached whale!!

I love the steel cut oats as well. I think it is a texture thing! I am more able to eat them without all the stuff than regular oats.

Morning EVERYONE!

Had a quick dinner last night, just threw some brocolli, ripe tomato and shrimp in a pan with a little EVOO and spices. Went to the see "The Grinch" musical. I have season tickets so that was included in my package. "C" day for me today, gearing down for tomorrow's carb up.

Kate~~We sit by the camp fire and chill out too. We have a lot acreage in upstate NY.

Last time we were there, I had a glass of wine by the fire. I did it to be sociable but I didn't really want it. It just made me really tired. I had one this past Wednesday, which was a carb up day, and enjoyed it. Maybe because I felt no guilt and knew I could have it?

Rain here yesterday, dreary now and will rain tomorrow. My plan is to do housework. ugh!

Yep, last night was spooky - no one was on. I asked my DH what was going on, any game I didn't know about, etc. It was weird...

Hi Kate
I don't know why but I thought we are supposed to exercise on carb downs. I don't know where I got that idea. I guess it's a good thing to do something every day just vary your routine. Bummer - I missed yesterday.

I think your DD12 really tought you were cool. At 12 they would laugh openly w/out being coy

AND THANK YOU FOR POSTING THE DARN MUFFIN RECIPE IN YOUR SIGGY - that makes the tree of us

Same here. My DH is a great guy but when I got married I also got a new job (stress level off the chart) and south it went. Also, I ate at all the weird hours and at odd places. In 6 years I added 24 pounds to my small and short frame.

I wish there was a way to post them so I could share them with others who want to use them. Maybe my student teacher can show me how to make a web page and post them there so they can be copied. He can teach this old dog a few new tricks! 54 is not too old to learn!
Julie!
I am sure they all need you and love you. heck, we never met you and we need you and love you. It's cool that your student teacher is doing such a great job and you can learn something from him as well.

Morning Vladis~~I'm almost 100% sure carb down days would benefit the most from exercise. That's the day our body is actually using up excess stored fat. So we burn more fat, right?

I think so. I seem to recall I got that notion from Alissa and it stuck in my head. On my last carb down - day before yesterday - I worked out really well.

Wow, Linda, it's me and you on this board a.k.a. Ghost Town USA

Hey Vladis: Thank you. felt really good. So did the massage! The steel cut oats do have much more nutrition to them. Of course the old-fashioned oats have more nutrition than quick oats which has more than instant oats. I don't eat much of anything that is refined. We always go for the super nutritious!

I ordered Agave Nectar. I'm so glad Wendy said it is okay. That makes me so happy as I do not like to use artificial sweetners.

I'm sure the elders said you must exercise on carb up days in order to have your 2 SA meals. I do some kind of exercise every day. Every other day I go to the gym, the off days I do T-Tapp. It is amazing and you see results so quickly. No jumping around either! It is at Better Body Basics - T-Tapp.com She has some try before you buy links which I did before I bought her DVD's. That way I make sure I am doing some form of exercise every day. My friend, who is a bariatric physician, when I asked her how often should we exercise, said, "Do you eat every day?" So, that meant I needed to do some form of exercise every day! Feeling more and more like exercising every day that goes by!

Love your posts, Vladis. You're the best my friend!
