week 5 Day 4

hi everyone.

Welcome JMN

Congrats on which ever house you get Alissa.

Tam here is another hug, your aunt and uncle are together again, they are happy.

I was told when you are in chat rooms cap letters mean you are screaming and boy was this muffin incident a good example. Leesa I think if you get a new keyboard that should take care of it. A friend might have an old one. I have a great one that is being wasted, wish you lived close.

I have not tried these muffins but enjoy how much you all do.

Jackie I cook turkey that is ground up into either patties or for tacos. I add lots of seasoning but they still have a bland taste, give me a simple idea that would travel well to work with me. you are our official chef!

working on clearing clutter around my house, what with holidays coming up and will be adding new clutter so I'll check in later.

Like the new signatures with the muffin answer, what's another common question we could put the answer to in it.

of course the " go bury your scale" could be one.

Great minds Tam.

I'm so sorry for your loss and your emotional troubles. WoW, I agree with you I think his soul did know and your Aunt called to him. I hope they are together now and at peace, but you are right it is so sad for the ones left behind.

Yummy.

Did you see my chicken cutlets with wheat germ? They are pretty good and a good substitution when you want fried chicken. You know not quite the same but hits the spot kind of thing.
I have to go look at that recipe. I am always looking for new chicken recipes.

Anyway, thought I'd post and hopefully get to know all of you. Again thanks for getting me through these last few days! I can't wait to report on 11/17 my week 1 results.

I love that role! Well, do you add any seasonings? How about when you want it to be for tacos, while you are browning the turkey, add some cumin, chili powder (or chipotle chili powder which I absolutely love). Once the meat is browned, add about 1/4 - 1/2 cup water and let it cook down. This will help enhance the flavors. This will give it that taco flavor you want. As for the patties, there are many things I do. I use sage.salt and pepper in the ground meat and then form it into patties. I also put some shredded mozzarella cheese in it and let it melt while the burger is cooking. A little pizza sauce on top and it's delish! Cook up some mushroom, onion and green peppers to put on top of one of your turkey burgers that you have seasoned very simply with just salt and pepper. Just a few ideas. Hope that helps. I'm going to be adding a lot of this stuff to my foodblog, so go to the address in my sig line as I will be trying to post more daily. I'm making a Thai turkey soup today that smells simply delicious and can be made for a carb down, baseline or carbup day! So, check the blog often! Guess I could collaborate with Wendy!

Yes, don't eat anything you don't like. Substitute turkey breast, chicken, hard boiled eggs. You don't need to follow the menus just the rules!

Great idea, and at that point it'll turn commercial, and start costing a pretty penny! That's how it is with other sites- in the beginning they're "doing you a favor", and then they start charging for everything.

As for 2 shakes a day... I'm having my issues with that. I've had this headache since before my TOM- 1.5 weeks now.... and I think it may be a buildup of the sweetener in my system. I have the sweeteners in 2 shakes a day, my muffin (Love that muffin!!), and my carb free dark chocolate (I count that as a good fat), and an occasional SF popsicle. No other explanation. I thought it was because I go to sleep hungry, but last night I was NOT hungry- carbed up seriously in the evening... sweet stuff at those weddings and bar-mitzvah...., and it's been aching the whole day, every day...kind of PMSing without the M
I'll try to skip the second one today- and have salad and cottage cheese instead....
Any feedback?

Hi Tam,
Upon reading the CTFLC book I was surprised by the inclusion of foods with artificial sweeteners (SF Jello-O, fudge pops) and "man-made" protein shakes...so many chemicals the body has to contend with. After being on the Schwarzbein Plan for so long I guess I have been brainwashed, or better yet...lifestyle washed, to only eat things that you could (in theory) hunt, gather, pick or fish. Dr Schwarzbein explains that introducing man-made chemicals to our bodies causes insulin to be released, and goes on to say that too much insulin in our blood for too long is the number one catalyst to all chronic disease (cholesterol, diabetes), and that eating fat doesn't make you fat but in fact it is insulin that makes you fat. She doesn't recommend having ANY sweets, but if you must...have desserts with whole ingredients like real sugar and eggs and cream.

The thing I love about Wendy's plan is that you can allow for these items without feeling any guilt. To make a lifestyle change wouldn't it be better to really change our habits...like not automatically reaching for an artificially sweet thing because we are stressed out, but addressing our emotional attachment to food? That is why I was confused reading in the book where Wendy says we should think of our bodies as a machine that we need to put fuel in, but then allows us things like jell-o and reddi-whip so we can get through the tough times. Since this is a challenge board I am challenging Wendy to take her program to the next level in her new book, where she gives us a little more credit that we will be able to wait until our carb up or cheat days to have a healthy dessert and enjoy it. If we can't wait until those days then we need to find out what is eating US! A well rounded lifestyle plan would encourage us to investigate our inner workings. It's not an easy thing to do but we need to be honest with ourselves. Are we really willing to do the work or do we want a quick fix?

Schwarzbein's plan is not "perfect" either...I plateaued pretty badly (that's why I am here now). I am hoping to combine Wendy's plateau busting with Schwarzbein's healing theories to create my own perfect healthy balance for a lifetime.

So Tam, in answer to your question....Dr. S also mentions that artificial sweeteners can lead to migraines...maybe that is what you are experiencing. Someone posted an AOL article that Wendy did where she clearly says not to use sweeteners...so why is it in the book?

What if we came up with a master list of snack meals that did not include anything artificial? After all, it is easier to roll up some turkey and cheese in a piece of lettuce than to drag out the blender, have to keep tons of ice on hand, then make a big blender mess and have to wash the thing twice a day! Also, it would help us make lifestyle changes that stick. We have always reached for the quickest and easiest and sweetest thing...that's why we are here.

Yes we can!

[COLOR="DarkRed"]Hi Jacke,

Wendy please don't take this wrong, but Jackie's suggestion of collaborating on recipes would be AWESOME. She should also include in her new book the ones in our recipe thread. I really am enjoying every bite I take. Got to go, the treadmill is calling my name.

I'm so sorry for you guys. I'm trying not to cry here at work myself. I agree that I think he sensed the loss or knew of it without being told. I lost my parents very quickly and unexpectedly 10 days apart (unrelated incidents). I'm still in shock 4 years later. And with everything else going on for you guys, I know it'll be tough.

I remind myself that my parents would both be lost without one another and I'm sure it's the same for this sweet couple. It doesn't help those of us here but I hope it's some consolation.

I've seen it- It's made by Solgar, but is not Kosher... Oh, well.... I skipped my second protein shake today- had some butternut squash and 1/2 c cottage cheese. It's less than half the protein. It was yummy though, though I am still a bit on the hungry side.
Need some kind of solution....

Thanks for the feedback and your concern. I agree with all points besides the blender saga... I keep mine on the counter, rinse it out right after using, and pop it into the dishwasher every night. No mess, and we're iceaholics anyways- 10 trays at a time in the freezer, and an extra bin of them in the summer... My DS's DFIL says he's grateful my son likes ice and not steak...it's cheaper that way... I love the way the shake fills me up (and not out...) and solves my protein problem... though I do have issues with the sweeteners- mine has natural coloring (strawberry flavored has beet extract, and they call the chocolate "white chocolate"- no colors...no taste either- I add coffee or cocoa, and love it!! A dab of butter, and it's real chocolate!
I would appreciate a master list of snacks, but take into account that I can't eat cheese and meat together, or cheese for 6 hours after meat- that is greatly complicating my WOE- Wendy suggested almonds- I count out my 24 (1 oz) and that helps some...
I've been using the shake for dinner.... I guess tuna fish will be making a come-back here....

Agreed! I can not be around my 3 year old and not laugh or smile. She's just so innocent that even when she's mad, she makes me laugh. Don't get me wrong, whining does in my nerves, but thankfully that's not often

I remind myself that my parents would both be lost without one another and I'm sure it's the same for this sweet couple. It doesn't help those of us here but I hope it's some consolation.
True, so true.. they are definitely in a better place now, but it is hard for those left behind, and was sudden. They were living apart for the past 1.5 years, and she wasn't mobile enough to see him often. Though they were both such happy people the last few years were hard on everyone, though everyone respected her choice to stay at home alone. She was fiercely independent. Truly an example to us all .

Though we are all mourning now, our lives will go on as usual , but their children and grandchildren will be profoundly affected...they were very supportive of their parents, and now there's nothing there.
Thanks again for your support.

Sorry this is off subject....
But, in the "old days" I would be stuffing my face over this- now I just talk to my family, post, think, and cry a bit.... much more dignified, don't you think?

Deb, I get mine at WalMart on the baking foods aisle, by the specialty flour/brad mixes. IT's in a brown box.

Hi Tam. That boy in the pictures is my step-son. He will be 13 in May. He lives with his mother and step-father in North Carolina. That is a long story of major disappointment for my husband. Needless to say we only get to spend time with him 1 week at Winter Break, every other Spring Break and 1/2 of the summer. It is difficult for my husband as they are very close. His mother got what she wanted in making it difficult for them to be together on a regular basis, but she did not win in separating them emotionally. They have a very close bond.

I am sorry about your family loss, and yours jmprgrl. I don't think we ever get over the loss of a parent. I cannot imagine the loss of a child.

Kellie congrats on your new stats. Cynthia glad you are back and doing so well.

Thank you everyone for your comments on my little granddaughter. Children are the best!!!

Family and great friends like all of you are a close second.

Love, Sara
