I can spray the potatoes with Pam and roast them in my Nuwave oven until they are brown and crispy without using a lot of fat, does that sound all right? I have one cheese string a day and if I have eggs, I use about 2 tbsp of shredded cheese. Is that much cheese in one day too much? For my broccoli, I dip it in a scant amount of thinned Ranch dressing. I am a little leary of cutting my fat too much because I had a bad experience on KK from doing that. In week two it says that I can have two serving of fat, do you guys stick to that or cut that down further?

I have another question, are there any KK survivors here who stalled for a long time after leaving KK but are now losing pounds or inches on this plan? That is where I am coming from and I have tried so many things to break my stall but nothing else seems to work. I know that in time I will see if this works for me but I would love to know about the experience of others in the same boat as me.

Hi Val!

I'll chime in with my 2cents worth

First...are you sure you can't get EZ bread? There are a few other Canadians on here who have found it...maybe they can chime on in!!! If you are in Canada and found the EZ bread...would you please let Val know where...Thanks! I also believe someone said there are a few places that ship it. Other than that, you can use a flour-less bread like millet as well, health food stores or health food sections at your grocery store will probably have it (maybe in the frozen section). Check the ingredients on line (on the Food for Live website) I bet you can find a similar product if not the same under a different name. Don't give up on finding it!

Who says your protein has to be eggs for breakfast? You can do chicken, turkey, beef, fish...anything you want. And go from there to build your meal plan. If you like potatoes (I love sweet potatoes mashed with baked chicken...yummy...and I have been known to eat that for breakfast!). So, try to build your plan around the foods you have always enjoyed...just whole-food versions of them.

In general your meals all looked good, just be sure to get variety if you need it...I am a creature of habit and do tend to have the same foods for my carb down/baseline rotations with a few changes here and there.

You do not have too much fat, I don't think...I think Kelley meant to just be aware of it. I sprinkle parmesan cheese on my broccoli...just a bit...but it does add a dimension so I know what you mean!

Regarding the other WOE, I am not familiar with is...I was never a carb controlled diet person before this Carb-Cycling program...maybe someone else can chime in on that!

Hope this helps!!

I think I should put my scale in the barn. On the up side I didn't believe it.

Carla,

I think it depends on what it was and how often you used it in the meal plan. Bear in mind, if you were a low/no carber before you will not likely see the first week drop that many do.

The barn is a good place for your scale!!

It was just last night and that was the only time I had anything that wasn't on the acceptable list.

I don't expect to see the large loss others have seen, but I am going to stick to the plan because I am so excited about it.

Hi Alissa,

Thanks for the help. I do not have a health food store or "healthy" section in either of our two grocery stores. We are very limited here and I live a 3 hour drive away from a major centre. I have been low carbing for about a year and an half so the adding in carbs is a bit scary and the long weight loss stalls have been discouraging in spite of varying my diet.

I struggle most with the lean protein on this diet. I like fattier cuts of meat so the lean chicken and beef is not very appealing to me. I like pork but am staying away from it on this plan for now. Fish and shrimp are okay but again, it is more palatable to me with added fat. I do not gain on a fatty protein diet but I do not lose either, hence why I am trying this plan.

I have made a few adjusts to my meal plan based on everyone's advice here. My the end of tomorrow, I should be done tweaking and have a solid plan in place for week 2.

Val

I would just keep going with your week 1 and see how week 2 goes. Sugar or fruit would be the only thing that would concern me...even if you stayed under the 20 grams of carbs.

You have a great attitude! This program does work...keep up your great work!

All these inspirational stories are wonderful and show the power of Faith. I dont like to run, but you even have me thinking about starting to try it.

I did get on the scale this morning, it wasn't nice to me, but I just disregarded it and said can't believe you. I had already drank lots of water and had breakfast then weighed. I think I should put my scale in the barn. On the up side I didn't believe it.

Carla
What did you have that wasn't on the list?

Hi Everyone,

I can not find EZ bread but there is a store that has this mix:

Bob's Red Mill*::*Gluten Free*::*Gluten Free Mixes*::*GF Homemade Wonderful Bread

Do you think that this would be a good substitute. The main ingredient is garbanzo beans which I think are allowed after week 1.

I had a small glass of brandy with water with my husband last night. There is no sugar or carbs in it. I shouldn't of had it and I knew it, but I made it weak and a small glass with lots of ice.

Hi Val,

I found this website when I went looking for EZ Bread:

Ezekiel Bread Recipe

Since Oprah's been mentioning the bread on her show, I would bet there are sites out there now that are selling the mixes. In case no one mentioned it, it's sold in the frozen foods section of your food store.

Hi Carla,

Hmmm...I don't know hon. The program is pretty clear about no alcohol until after day 21. That is a pretty big tweak I think. It has to do with how your body processes the alcohol (though the liver). Maybe Kelley or Connie or Renee can chime in.

Carla,
I just looked it up in my carb counting book. Distilled liquors (incl. brandy) have just trace amounts of carbs. That's the good news. The bad news is that we are not supposed to have any alcohol for three week for a variety of other reasons. However, i don;t think one slip up is going to be all THAT hurtful to you. Just do your best and stay on course for the remaining two days of your carb deplete and then be strong and no alcohol until the end of week 3. I can't tell you how much I would LOVE to have a cold glass of Souvignon (sp?) Blanc now

Happy Nov. 1st. Trisha and Val. We are actually having weather here in Southern California today. Its raining and windy and chilly. I love it. Finally feels like fall. I am debating whether I should do week 7, day 1 or just the air step indoors.

I don't remember who asked about weight loss and stats, but it is different for each of us. I am 5' 2" tall. I started at 142. I lost 10 pounds the first round, and am finishing round 2, week 14 (week 7 maintenance) and am down an additional 5 pounds. Looks more like 6 but I don't have a digital scale so it is difficult to tell. In measuring, I have lost over 20 inches.

This WOE really works. What other diet can you have cake, alcohol, pasta, pizza, garlic bread, eat what everyone else eats at Thanksgiving and Christmas and be on plan? The answer is NONE.

So we are all so lucky to have picked up that Women's Day or First magazine and to find this website.

I have my guard on and no more slips for me. Even had DH take it out of the house. Told him we are not going to have any more.

I did make it really weak it was more like flavored water..lol But still thought I would confess it and see if I should do week 1 again. I think I will keep going on the program since it was very weak.

I am going to be a success !!! On track!

Hi Sara
Wow, your stats are the closest to mine. I am 5'2" as well and you are an inspiration to ME

I know you like your wine as well. Did you have your first glass after 21 days? How often do you allow yourself to indulge in it? I have to admit that I miss that the most That and some crusty bread with tomatoes, mozzarella, basil and balsamic vinegar

P.S. I just got it - Sara118

Julie - way to go!!!!! Now you can really understand why we say to put away the scale! I see you have added a note to that effect in your signature line!

Have a great healthier skinnier day making cards with your friends!

Trisha! I can only repeat what everyone has already said - this is a great WOE, and a very wonderful group of people on this board! You will get all the support you could want and/or appropriate kick if ya need that too! Be sure you get the book as the info in the magazine is not even close to what you really need. There are also links to our recipe, exercise and FAQ threads as well as all the previous threads in the first few posts of this thread. Do ask if you have a question!

Vladis - love it! Enjoy your carb up day and the feeling of no guilt while enjoying the company of friends! As long as dessert is not a trigger for you, you can enjoy some. Just know when to say no more. And from dinner last night, it sounds like you are ready for tonight!

"Kelley17 -My dear leader! I am reporting that my scale went to another bathroom. Now I can't step on it in my unconscious state - I have to walk down a long hallway to get there I might post notes along the way "Just say NO to scale!"]

Naomi - hope you found some great shoes, and remember not to overdo on that first run! We want you to be back to tell us how it went!

Val - sorry but the bread won't work. The bread contains flour, potato starch, and cane sugar. EZ bread contains no flour or sugar ingredients. Here is what is in the Sesame EZ bread: organic sprouted whole wheat, organic sprouted barley, organic sprouted millet, organic malted barley, organic sprouted lentils, etc. You may not be able to find a sprouted whole grain bread in your local stores, but that is what you are looking for. Good luck!

It is pouring rain and somewhat cool here in Northern California. Dreading going out to the grocery store, Wally World (Walmart), etc. But the cats may start eating my EZ bread (with the requisite butter, of course), if I do not go buy cat food!

Hope you are all having a crackin' good day!

to any and everyone!

Hi Crackers. Been busy cooking my carb up dinner. House smells sooo good. I'm making unstuffed cabbage,(it has meatballs and kind've a sweet/sour sauce) served over mashed potatos. It's yummy. I used very lean ground beef and Splenda in the sauce instead of brown sugar so I can serve it later this week.

Question: Has anyone made the crispy green beans? Someone mentioned it this week and called them "green bean fries". If so,how long did you bake them for? Thought I'd serve them with a wasabi ranch dip like TGIF's fried green beans. Thanks! dede

p.s. Maybe I should have you and Connie interview any prospects before I start dating! I do have an "event" on November 7th...the nice looking son of a friend...that younger guy...my friend just reminded me about that
That's not as funny as you think.. I've done that with prospects for my sons. Not that I really interview, but we look into the prospects, and when it looks like a go, we meet the girl first. It's common here among our crowd. After that the couple goes out for as many times as they need and decide if they like each other. Don't faint, ladies, I am NOT kidding. My eldest son married the 6th girl he went out with (we didn't meet any of those, but DH met the fathers, and afew of the fathers met my son...)- my daughter married the first (my husband had a look at him without him knowing, and we were there at the first date, spoke to him afew minutes, and then left them on their own)... my next son married the 2nd girl (we met both, it went well with both, but the first was a no go) and he said that his wife married him to get me as a MIL , and the next 2 married the first. It took about 4 dates each, and my eldest, 7- she was from out of town, and waited for her father to meet him before they decided.
This must sound very foreign to you all, and I've probably added about 30 pages to the thread .... but it's great, it works, and thank G-d they are all happily married. No pressure, no expectations, but they know enough about the prospect to get an idea of what they're like b4 meeting. My SIL grew up in our neighborhood, and my DD knew and loved his sisters even b4 she met my SIL, and my last DIL's parents have been friends of ours for the past 30 years. No, that did NOT make it easier.

Connie, I still need to lose some weight. Had lost down to 145 lbs. and kept it off for 2 yrs. - and then the dreaded "carb creep" showed up. I haven't lost that much "weight" on this program because I wasn't totally committed the first time around. That's why I grabbed size 12's. This time I've been more faithful and will continue at least throught the holidays. Plus I love coming here and keeping up with all my cracker friends.

Tam, right now we are 6 hrs. earlier than EST, but that will change this weekend and we'll be 5 hours after daylight savings. Don't let the scales get to you - keep trying on clothes that didn't fit before - the scale IS NOT YOUR FRIEND!!!!!
Go for it, I couldn't do it without my cracker friends either....
The holidays will be so much easier if you carb up only at official holiday meals and not 24 hours a day. You'll see!
I will always be 12 hours ahead of you, as after you fall back, I will be 7 hours ahead of EST, now they're on EDT... SO you are literally on the other side of the world!

Yes, Kelly, they've moved our thingamajigs (they do do the jig, don't they?),
but this time the ones I like are further up....

THanks, Vladis, today I REALLY gave you guys something to chew on.....

Hi Vladis. Yes are stats are very similar. I did wait the 21 days to have the wine. I was used to drinking red wine every night. Just like the food cravings though it went away. Now I can enjoy one glass sometimes, and it is enough. Of course sometimes its 2 or 3. You will find that you get a big buzz wth much less. When I go out to dinner at friends houses I fill my glass about 1-2 ounces at a time and I just sip on that. For some reason sipping small amount and then having to go get more seems I drink less and don't feel yucky later. Both Kelley and I have had wine on carb down nights, which is usually a Friday night on this plan, and no ill effects on weight or inch loss. I have avoided mixed drinks since they contain a lot of calories and sugar. Hope that helps.

Soon you will be enjoying that glass or 2 of wine also.

Thanks, Sara! I do plan on waiting until I am allowed - day 21
1-2 glasses when I eat out is all I usually do. I don't like to get into a state when you stop enjoying wine and start experiencing alcohol Mixed drinks - don't care much either and thank God the summer is over - I do get an occasional Margarita when it's really hot

Boy, I really want to be just like you
I will do my very best - scout's honor

Vladis you will do just fine as yourself. You have the determination, I can tell. This way of eating is forgiving if you go a little overboard and there is always a fix. Love it. Good luck. I will follow your stats as you go along. Kelley17 is also 5'2" and I always look at her success. My plan is to try and exercise more so things keep moving.

Hi,

I just came back from the grocery store and I found some biscuit mix in the gluten-free section, the ingredients are:

Ingredients: stone ground white rice flour, garbanzo bean flour, baking powder (sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium bicarbonate, corn starch, monocalcium phosphate), xanthan gum and sea salt.

We are allowed rice and beans as a starch so I am going to give this mix a try in a couple of weeks and see what happens.

Here is a recipe that would be good for breakfast using this mix:

Impossible Cheeseburger Pie (Wheat-Free)

INGREDIENTS:

1 lb. Lean Ground Beef
1-1/2 cups Chopped Onion
1-1/2 cups Milk or Water
3 Eggs
3/4 cup Wheat Free Biscuit & Baking Mix
1/4 tsp ground black Pepper
1/2 tsp Sea Salt
2 Medium Tomatoes - Sliced
1 cup Grated Lowfat Cheddar Cheese

Preheat oven to 400F. Lightly spray with nonstick vegetable spray a 10 pie plate, set aside.

Brown beef and onion, drain and spread in prepared pie plate.

Beat milk, or water, eggs, biscuit mix, pepper and salt for 15 seconds in processor on high or 1 minute by hand. Pour over hamburger.

Bake for 25 minutes; top with sliced tomatoes and cheese. Bake an additional 5-8 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.

Makes 6 servings.

Val

Hi Val--I remember you from one of the other boards, although I was mostly a lurker. I'm a former KK'er and dealing with the same issues you are. I'm also 51 somewhere in the peri-menopause arena, so I'm sure that has an impact as well.

I'm in my fifth week and am not seeing the results on the scale that I would like, but my clothes *are* feeling a bit looser. I lost 5.5 lbs the first two weeks, then have been bouncing up and down with the same 2 lbs since then. But there are some mitigating factors:

1. My birthday was at the end of my second week and my first carb-up day was a blowout with cake and 2 margaritas (when sugar and alcohol are supposed to wait until 3rd week).

2. I have definitely had a struggle with not overstuffing on my carb-up days and I think that's having an impact.

3. My TOM hit during the 4th week, so I knew there would be a stall there.

4. While I've been pretty close to the food plan on my baseline and carb down days, I suspect I've pushed the boundaries a little too far on fats (I think my good fats (olive oil, Smart Balance light mayo and spread) are ending up around 4 tbs a day, and bad fats may be closer to 30 grams on some days (due to egg yolks and some irresistible roast chicken skin).

When I'm not carbing up my daily calories have averaged in the 1600 range so I know I'm not grossly overeating, but I'm wondering if I'm just not keeping things quite clean enough to see much loss.

I still do think this could work, but I want to look at the successful peoples' menus to see how much difference there is in what is working for them.

I've already decided I'm willing to hang in through this round and probably through a 2nd round to get me through the holidays and see if anything changes.

Great job lady!!
Thanks! I've been on a size-down high all day! Makes it easier to do a second carb down day when I was looking forward to a carb up, but tomorrow will be a treat going out to dinner with my family. (I switched days).

Carla, you'll be fine. It sounds like a 'tweak', not a cheat.

If you were doing blueberry pancakes at four in the morning, I'd have something else to say, lol!
