Just wanted to add: I wasn't taking my vitamins and supplements in week 1 because I didn't want anything interfering with that week but Kelley told me that it was OK. Half way through the week I started taking them again and I take a combo one calcium, Magnesium and vitamin D with 1 gram of sugar per serving, which is 4 tablets and they're chewable. So I took half a dose. Boy that was a long rambling comment!!

Sara, Hey girlie!! I starated running on atreadmill a few weeks ago and gave up running aroung the yard. My joints are much better since then. I ran @ 4mph when I did the 20 minute straight run. I didn't really pay attenton to the exact distance number when I started, but I know I was able to do over a mile straight. I just did a 30 minut run and it said 2 miles, so I don't know. Either way, I'm just happy to run for 20 minutes straight LOL! Thanks for the help though

The soup is in the recipe thread now. I forgot to put it in there, but that particular recipe made about 4 servings, so enough for Ken and I to have lunch, and some for another lunch later.

Unlike other "diets or programs" I have tried, I am really reading this book because I want to FINALLY understand what I need to do and why. I have NO IDEA what I am in for yet and how to go about what it is I am going to have to do. I am hoping to get help and support here. A year ago I had the lap band surgery and am not really losing. I know now its because I am not eating enough food. The one good thing is I have at least stopped gaining weight. That is about the only good thing about my lap band surgery. I am glad I had the surgery for that reason, but I would be happier if I were losing weight and not just the fact I have stopped gaining.
Thanks for reading this. Any help or encouragement is greatly appriecated.
Judy

Welcome! You could not have come to a better place for support and help (these ladies are SO patient!) I'm sorry the lap band surgery didn't work out as well as you planned but you're taking a great step in doing Wendy's plan because you will be HEALTHY too! Good luck!

Week 2, Day 4...me too!

Hi, it's me taking a moment to chime in~
I want to respond to Nina...who's having a hard time.
Nina, Don't depair. You have 80 lbs to lose, and I have that many to lose just to below 200...and another 50 to lost after that! I have lost 100 lbs twice in my life, and then slowly gained it back both times. I've had a hard time getting to the place to think that I can lose 100 lbs again, and desperatly don't want to gain it back after I lose it, so I am taking it one day at a time, and trying to learn how to excel at a program that I think that I can maintain for the rest of my life. Losing weight is never easy, but gaining sure is! In my experience, when I am not losing, I am gaining...I never seem to be able to balance at one weight. Try to remember how good it felt when you saw a success, but don't depend on the scales to give you that feeling. The scales are not our friend, they are fickle, lying and downright mean. Bank the good feelings that you get from trying on clothes that fit better, being with people that you love that tell you you are looking great, and making new friends on this board that will give you kudos and high 5's anytime you need it....even if you slip up. Look up and forward, to better days and better health..and try to not be hard on yourself. If I can do this, you can certainly do this....and I CAN DO THIS!!
One day, one hour, one meal, at a time....
Mitzy

I think part of my issue with eating a salad regularly is making the salad. Saturday night, I went to a party and took a HUGE bowl of salad (iceberg, romaine, cucumbers, radishes, celery) I brought home leftovers in a ziplock baggie with a papertowel inside (to help absorb some of the moisture). We sealed the bag tight and tried to get most of the air out. I have eaten salad every day this week using that bag of mix. And it was still fresh and not wilted.

I hate buying the store mixes because it seems the second you open the bag, it has to be tossed the next day.

I think I'll be making my own bagged salad from now on.

What I love about it (and why I'm putting total faith in it) is because it is so livable.....if I can eat like this and actually lose weight and then maintain it, I'm sold! Thanks for all your support Kelley. You always have good inspiration on the board....

Naomi, big hugs and thanks for a truly wonderful and inspiring post. I have copied it and and putting it in the front of my copy of the book. I have not had the feelings that inspired this one, and am happy with this WOE. But I think it is definitely worth keeping! Thank you!

Vladis and Rhonda - the big thing to remember is that EVERYONE of us is DIFFERENT! Kelley, for instance, weighs about one pound more than I do at this point in time. We are both approximately the same height. She is 5'2", while I am 5' 1/2". BUT she is in size 8's while I am in 12 & 13's. Why the difference? We are just different! We are built different, we carry our weight different. So, you will see a difference in different ways from us and from each other. Just hang in there for the 8 weeks and then judge how things are for you. If you then decide this WOE is not for you, we would miss you but would understand.

Nina, Naomi's post really got to the heart of what we all are thinking. Where would you be if you hadn't started this a week ago? Have you ever found any "diet" that you consistently lost on week after week? A "diet" that allowed you so much leeway that you felt you could stick with it long term, like forever? If so, then tell the rest of us! We would hate to see you give up on yourself by giving up on this WOE. Your feeling down because of being a scale junkie is the reason why we keep preaching over and over to:
PUT AWAY THE SCALE!!!!! THE SCALE IS NOT YOUR FRIEND!!!!!

Please give this time and see how you feel about it a few weeks from now. You will have a much better sense of self, of loss and how you are physically feeling.

Vladis - while Wendy would like you to eat those little trees (brocolli), it isn't a requirement. So, if you truly can't stand them.......

Spydermonkey - I think someone else said this, but I will repeat, your body can pack on the pounds around TOM! I used to see a 5# gain before mine. It's hormones and should disappear in a few days.
As far as Panera vs a smoothie. I think you better stay away from the smoothies cause even the all fruit ones are exactly that - all fruit sugars! I have not been in a Panera cause none anywhere near us. But I am willing to bet they have some kind of salad. Or ask for a sandwich but tell them to skip the bread!!!! (The In'N'Out Burger here in California has been serving their very popular Protein Burger for years. It is their hamburger/cheeseburger with all the fixings but no bun.) I am sure their sandwich would probably have meat, cheese, and probably lettuce and tomato. Ask for extra veggies and meat. Take your own dressing with you and a knife and fork. A small bowl could be good too. And voila, a nice salad for lunch/dinner! Don't forget some Atkins or other premade shakes. Is there a grocery store that has a salad bar where you are going? I know there are two here in town and they have hard boiled eggs, celery, brocolli, etc.

Tam, just catching up on the posts. Did you mean about the wedding and the dress you wore? Yea, that's why I was kidding you about the "old lady" dress - cause the "old" you did not look as good in it as the "new" you!!!!

As the old saying goes, "YOU'VE COME A LONG WAY BABY!"!!

[quote: Hey Kelley, Connie and Alissa- did you see this morning's brag session? I see you're getting sick of me Even though I was embarrased to brag, I was looking forward to your stroking.]

Carla, one of our ex- members (at least she doesn't post anymore) was soooo bad with the scale she put it in the trunk of the car so she wouldn't weigh. Problem was, she got up at 3 am and went out to the driveway to weigh so hubby wouldn't catch her at it!

Judy and ! Glad to have you join us! Ask questions, go to our FAQ, menu and exercise threads! You will find lots of good information, as well as all the support to be found here! Don't forget we start a new thread each week, so Sunday evenings watch for Kelley or Alissa to post the new link and switch over to the new one!

Nina, that is two carb meals, meaning mostly carbs for those meals with some protein and fat. You can also enjoy a carb serving with breakfast.

Stats: Starting over on Crack the Code
WOE: crack the code
Start Date: April 13, 2008
So, by January (8 weeks) you should have lost about 24 pounds total - that's about 2 or 3 dress sizes!!!

By March (second 8 weeks) you should be down about 45 pounds total - another 2 or 3 dress sizes!

By April (third 8) you should be down another 20 pounds - one more dress size - for a total of 60 pounds

By July (last eight) you would be to goal, give or take 5 pounds - another dress size.

Think about this. In LESS THAN A YEAR you could be your 'ideal weight'. And about 7 dress sizes smaller (If you're a 24, you could be a 10!!!!
!)

My goal was March but looks like Aril would be more realistic. I thought Naomi you did a great job of helping us see it in writing.

Nina do you feel the love? Once you join this blog, quitting is not an option! We are here to make this your last time to lose weight and keep it off. Let's imagine what we would be focused on if it weren't our weight? HHHHHmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, what do I want to be? Will get back with you on that.

You want to hear a stupid reason to gain weight? So you don't get lots of unwanted attention. I was size 8 twice and I loved being skinny for me but really hated all the sleezy men that seem to come with the loss. This time I will not eat to blend in . Weight loss and gain is a mind game for sure.

Here you are again
How did you do today after lunch? I did pretty well (please see my beaver dance on the previous thread - it's for you too - thank you)

I had enough energy to do 30 min on the bike. I feel MUCH better. Woo-hoo!!!

Salad - I really dislike the bags from stores. However, I started buying salad in large plastic containers. Those salads are AWESOME! One pack lasts me about 3 days (6 good size salads) and they are really fresh. Last one I bought had baby lettuces (various kinds) and herbs - delish and smells heavenly. Highly recommend

Thanks for the beaver dance- had a good laugh!

I have a Tupperware salad spinner- once forgot some Romaine in there for 2 weeks- it was still good! When I have an overflow I put it in a bag with paper towels- no need to suck out the air. Just change the towels when they get damp.

Noticed I haven't been eating enough veggies- It's chilly now, so I don't really want them, and it's been so busy here I can't be bothered, so bkfst and dinner are just protein. NOT good! Maybe next week I'll try some soups. Need some veggie soups w/out any meat, chicken or cheese or carbs in them.... Maybe beans... or other good carbs instead of the rice.

Connie
Connie, you are absolutely right. I had a low whiny day yesterday. I am a much happier camper today. Also, I don't mind broccoli THAT much. I was just getting bored with the sight of it. Now that I blend it into my salad I am OK.
