Whoopppeee. That fudgesicle tasted yummy tonight. I bought another scale today. But hold on, don't do the voodoooooooo thing to me. It was an electronic kitchen scale. No more guessing on the meat servings. I was able to get in 4 meals today (plus my treat) and did 1.5 miles walking/running on the treadmill. My daughter, son and his best friend decided to stop in and of course ended up eating dinner with us. They had a few beers but I didn't even miss having a glass of wine. The only thing I did want was one of the pretzels they were snacking on before dinner. For some reason I have a craving for pretzels. Well, that's all for now, this East Coaster is going to bed.

Good job, Linda. Before you know it, you will have lost your pants!

The "kitchen" scale is a good investment. I use mine all the time!

Week 3 Day 3 minus 12lbs

Hey ladies,
just getting in, my carb up night went fine and drinking one more water before i go to bed. Wendy hang in there your pants will fall off before you know it.

Kellycarbaddict it feels great to put on those pants, congrats!

Vladis we're here for you, let's see what would make you happy? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm
Picture yourself on week 8, I know you will be two sizes smaller, just wait and see.

I do feel that the base line days if your not careful will make you crave food. I told my daughter today was the first time I was hungry but I had missed 2 meals and wasn't going to eat till I was home and could eat the right food. Especially since to night was carb up. I didn't like feeling hungry, won't miss a meal again.

Talk at you all tomorrow.
Linda

Thanks, Linda! I wonder what one can do to prevent those cravings? Maybe I didn't eat right today? I think I was pretty careful - ate sensibly, drank a lot of water, exercised.... What the heck!?

It's been a weird day - didn't have much time to read the posts and missed doing that terribly. I work mostly from home and even when I do work I keep an eye on what's happening with my WOE friends. Today was a lot of running around.

It was also my first baseline day and I "crashed" after my second starch of the day (yeh, yeh, yeh - I do drink A LOT of water, like 3-4 liters a day)

I also noticed that I had awful cravings tonight. So far I reached only for chicken breast and Atkins shake (OK, OK - I did put a very LIBERAL amount of whipped cream on top - the organic one, no sugar, no fat).

What's up with that? Are those things normal after carb-deplete week? I don't want to blow this program (I refuse to call it a "diet").

Also, even though I lost 7 pounds I haven't noticed much difference in my clothing. My husband said that my face looks thiner and my arms (7 pounds worth???!!!). I know that whatever gains weight last would be lost first (hence my fingers seem thinner as well).
A bit down tonight...
I'm sorry you are feeling down. It's ok, we ARE DOING THIS! YOU CAN DO THIS! SIS BOOM BAH!

Try not to worry. I noticed that i lost some of the bloat I have had in my "baby belly". I think that's why I've noticed the difference in my pants. The extra "kelly roll" made my pants snug. Losing a bit of that made a difference. I don't see anything much anywhere else. But like DancingLynda said, imagine yourself in 8 weeks. 8 weeks will be here whether you stick to the WOE or not, so lets stick to it (together) and we can see where we are in 8 weeks.

That 2nd starch really got to me today too. I drank the protein shake and for a little while I felt weird, but I think the added protein helped me out. I did good and ate my leftovers for dinner. I think part of my issue was not as much protein as I should have eaten with the potato. I had a big salad, potatoe and small amount of protein. I was satisfied so I stopped. It was a good learning experience.

I did cheat tonight.... DH wanted McDs after I got done with biblestudy, I ate 4 fries on the way home. The good thing... they didn't taste very good so I didn't want to eat anymore and they lost their appeal for future cheats.

Hope you are feeling better.... ((((HUGS)))

Oh goodie gum drops... Thanks for the reminder, I forgot I could have that fudgesicle until I saw your post. I sure needed that.... it was awesome.

Great job with the walking/running and passing on the beer. WOOHOO!

Hi Vladis...not Kelley but just lil ole me Alissa

First, let me say GREAT JOB!!! 7 pounds is awesome...the size of a newborn baby!!! Now think on that

I have to tell you, I kept my carbs VERY clean in week 2...ONLY EZ bread. Are you sure that the crab cake did not have some "cracker" or "bread crumbs" in it? Were teh crab cakes fried? Ugh...I can not have fried foods they sit in my gut like a rock and make me sick now! Also, remember there will be TONS of salt in those as well...that could trigger a craving. Maybe you felt "deprived" not being able to eat the green beans? Do you know what was in the mashed potatoes? Sometmes there are additives in those as well that can "muddy up" the potato (ie lots of salt and butter) Now, understand these are not bad in small amounts but a fried crab cake with bread crumbs AND a some potatoes with butter and salt could in combination have an effect. How was your morning carb?

When you say you "crashed" do you mean you had no energy or you ate off plan? It did not sound like you ate off plan, but I just wanted to clarify. As for energy, I had days in the second week were I felt that energy drain again...then by day 11-12 I was perked right back up.

It sounds like you made good choices, did you find yourself craving something specific? When that happens to me, I look for a substitute that is equally satisfying, otherwise I will just up and blow my plan all together! You have a carb up right around the corner and you have been reading about some of us with carb ups today and then moving things around for carb up on Friday...maybe that and the Holiday are playing tricks on your mind?

Just my suggestions and/or experiences, I know it isn't much! I wish I could make it all better...kust know we are here for you!

~Alissa

p.s. I call it a WOE/WOL also...no diet here!

Kelly carb... Great job!!!

You know, visual imagry is powerful. When I get tired in my run (I now can do a full 30 mins...a full 5k no stopping very comfortably) this is a trick given by another Gal, Twyla, from the c25k thread:

Picture yourself running...and right in front of you is a thin fit woman...you are chasing her down...every step you take is one towards her...every foot that drops and comes back up...every motion forward...she is right there in front of you...every step you take is one step closer to that leaner, fitter and fabulous YOU.

The same visualization can be used for any exercise, or eating challenge...there are no steps/foods/choices that are "middle ground" Each thing we do, each step, each piece of celery/pizza/chicken breast/glass of wine...everything we put in our mouths every time we DECIDE to exercise or sit in front of the TV...everything we choose to do brings us one step closer to our ultimate outcome OR it can set us back (which is not a failure 'cause we need them to grow)...so that in mind, BEING MINDFUL of the CHOICES we do have and the DECISION we make to GET HEALTHY is EMPOWERING and MOTIVATING!

It works for me...maybe can help you too And you, Vladis!

You are not alone...THAT is a lovely piece of knowledge

Vladis...

ME AGAIN!!!

Try to identify what you are "craving" if you can get specific, we can find a substitute that will help with that. Sweet or salty, creamy or crunchy? Those are the textures and tastes I try to determine then lets go from there. Somedays we are just hungrier!

Hey, where is everyone????
Jackie! Sorry I missed you!

Looks like I am alone now...talking to myself!

I ate pizza tonight after a very clean eating day and now it is sitting in my gut like a rock...and it was "healthier" pizza...gluten free. Ugh...

Of course I had a few apple slices (about 1/2 apple) and 2 Tbs of carmel sauce as well...with 2Tbs of peanuts and 2 Tbs candy corn...all in all a very reasonable carb up day with a good noon time workout. Clean eating and no starch until 4pm (I, personally, do better without eating carbs in the AM unless I am hitting the gym early). Not sure if I will carb up again on Friday! Ack...I downed about 2 gallons of water so maybe the bloat is from that!!!

I'm here, I'm here... burning the almost midnight oil with work and sneaking peeks to see if any of you west coast girls were still here.

I found out at 2pm that a project of 150+questions is due by Monday Noon... grrrrr.... We average about 8 questions an hour... that's alot of hours. I think part of my issue this afternoon was stress.

Thank you for your words of wisdom.... I need that swift kick in the hiney. Your visual about chasing the thin girl is what I needed to hear.

I am glad that speaks to you. Each time I find myself thinking I can't do something...I think about that AND Henry Ford's quote...

"If you think you can or you think you can't...YOU'RE RIGHT"

I collect inspirational quotes Lots of wisdom there!

Good luck with that assignment...bummer...heck of a weekend you have in front of you! You can do it

Wendy told me to try 5-HTP for sugar cravings (can't take it if you are on anti-depressants, or other serotonin related drug), seems to have really worked for me!

Hi Alissa. Are you the only one one now.

Even though I was tired I decided to the 25 minute run, and I did it. I started off slowly and by the end my knees were getting sore, but I finished. It was a challenge and I met it. Hopefully the next 3 25 minute runs will get easier and easier. I try to run slow to pace myself, but maybe its too slow and that was why my knees were hurting.

Just want to say I admire the way you help everyone, and take so much time to analyze problems and give suggestions and inspiration. You and Kelley are the best.

Have a good evening. Its afer 10 p.m. and I am hoping for a good, deep night's sleep. See you on the boards tomorrow.

Love, Sara

WAY TO GO SARA!!! WOO HOO!!!

Great job!! I left you a response on the esercise thread...I actually suggested you take it easy and get some sleep...So I am thriled that you WENT FOR IT!!! Go Girl!!!

They do get easier...they really do. Honestly, if you like the podcasts...use them...but I have so much energy and drive when running if I am listening to my own music mixes. I time them so I know which song is the last one to run to before I get to walk and cool it down. We are so close to graduation from the c25k!! I couldn't have done it without you and Kelley too! Thanks for your kind words I greatly appreciate them...being a help (to the extent I can be) aids me in my goals as well...keeps me centered and on track!

By the way, just a suggestion, about the knees, my fitness coach watched me run and she suggested me rolling my foot from heel to toe while I run...and pump arms back and forth like I am running on parallel railroad tracks. The rolling of the foot through the whole step seems to put significantly less pressure and impact on my knees...try it while running once...be mindful of "bouncing up and down" versus rolling through the whole foot all the way to the toes. You might find it ease the pressure on your knees. HTH
Get some good sleep tonight, you all mean the world to me as well Sara.

G'mornin'/Night Multiple choice....

No way can I keep up with you guys! That wedding took 3.5 hours of my evening last night, and we didn't even stay through the meal! We got a ride there and back, so we didn't have to take buses....
Anyways, as soon as I walked in I met the GMof the groom (the mother of the groom is a friend of min...) First thing she said was "You've lost weight!"- then the mother of the groom came over, and also said "Did you lose weight? You look so good!" I usually put myself down and say "only so and so amount", or "I have a long way to go"- this time, thanks to you guys and this WOE, I just smiled, said I did, and thanked them.
I wore a jacket (CLOSED!!!) I haven't worn for 2.5 years, and then only with a long line bra and girdle (HATE those things!)- and looking like a sausage!! The skirt was from 2 of my kid's weddings, and then I weighed about 12 lbs less than now!! It looked better than it did then, and NO GIRDLE!! Those belong to old ladies!!
Messed up my eating though- didn't have the shake before we left, as I wasn't hungry, so when they served the first course I went for the meat pastry, imagining it would taste like mine- IT DID NOT!!- I ate only the filling, and was hungry by then.
I then realized I should have had the fish, as we weren't staying for the main course, and I had just made myself "meaty". (We don't eat milk for 6 hours after eating meat). I had a chocolate pudding with whipped cream on top waiting for me at home, and now I can't have it til Saturday!! I was starved!! Went to the shmorg. table, and tasted afew pastries- poppy seed, which I usually love, and apple. They did nothing for me, and I chucked most of it...
When we got home I had a lovely pear, but it was too close to bedtime...
Haven't weighed yet today... No, your voodoo jobs to not work Transatlantic!! It's too far!!!
Making chicken breast for lunch, so I am safe today- I love it!!!, and will have those 2 b-day carbs with lunch- thanks so much KELLEY for telling me about that- and my lovely 1Mmuffin for breakfast.
Now, if my baby(11) would just get up- he has to pick up his Lego project off the floor before going to school- my cleaner's coming in 15minutes!!!(7:43AM here) He hates the cleaner, as he has to pick up his projects b4 she comes, and he's not his best so early in the morning!!
The house is still messy from the holidays, and I have a big pile of ironing, that I don't feel like doing!!
And you lucky ladies are going to sleep!!!

Tam! Let me second what Alissa just said! Does that not make you feel good to know that other people notice too! Glad those "old lady" clothes are fitting so well!

Keep meaning to ask - how's the thumb doing? You haven't mentioned it in a few days.

ALISSA!!!! Been working on the invites for Family Christmas and some other paperwork tonight. Plus the church elders were here to visit. Haven't stepped inside that church for over 30 years except for a funeral, but am still on the roll. I guess that is a good thing. Somebody needs to keep me in their prayers.

Heading to bed. 8:00 am appt with diabetic specialist. Will try to remember to ask about splitting carbs and impact on sugar for you ,Tam.

Both of you have a terrific day and night!!!!

Connie!! You are in my prayers...I go to church every Sunday...some Saturday's too and some Wednesday nights too Maybe you'd go back some day...the door will always be open! I promise!

My running music is all Contemporary Christian Rock I like to feel God and Christ when running...by the way after the accident (back on 4/4/04) I was not supposed to be able to walk so my ability to work out, walk and RUN is such a gift I never want to take for granted again...hencs how emotional I get when listening to David Crowder or Mercy Me of Third Day in an inspiring song of thanks and praise

I have to hit the hay as well so nice to see your smiling face

Thank you thank you, dear friends!!!

They are NOT old lady clothes- just had an old lady wearing them in the past... in fact, once met my friend's 18 yr old daughter wearing it, and I felt ridiculous, as her's was probably a size 6, and mine a 14.

If I have protein with my lunch it should be OK with my carbs- breakfast is my downfall, as if I don't play it right (as I am with this WOE) I can eat the whole morning! Now I am fine...

Go to bed, ladies!!

Good morning, everyone!6:07 am and I am wide awake and ready for the day!

My second Baseline day, tomorrow carb down and then Saturday Carb up. Not sure what I am going to do. I think I will make some pumpkin soup with sage garnish and crusty bread for lunch that day though. Not sure about the rest.

What kind of fudgecicles can we have on baseline days? SF?

Good Morning All!

Just wanted to say hello and have a lovely, productive day.

I had a wonderful carb up day, having dinner out with a good friend: great food (worth carbing up on) and great company She's a hoot! She and her new husband eloped this summer (didn't tell anyone) and had a clambake to celebrate when they got back. I think it was the perfect wedding for her!

Anyways, we walked through a few shops after dinner (Chico's, Coldwater Creek, and Talbott's), all of which were having "huge sales". RIGHT! I'd have to remortgage my house to afford their "sales". Stylish clothes, but not necessarily well-made for the price. $150 for an unlined jacket????? No way! (That wasn't on sale). So I bought fabric and patterns at JoAnn for a corduroy jacket, a wool blend jacket, and a gabardine jacket and pants. It's cheaper and I can control the finishing on the clothes. I think I'll wait on the gabardine (pants). Don't want to put the effort into making them and have them be too BIG in a month !!!!!!!

Blessings to all,
Julie

Julie, great job. I'm glad you enjoyed your carb up day. I have my first one on Saturday. I love to look at the catalogs for Coldwater Creek and such, but I'm with you, wouldn't spend the money. I don't sew however, I envy you, I wish I did.

Have a wonderful day

I'd love to have you over. Wouldn't it be awesome to have a meeting place, somewhere in between where we could all meet and eat together, one big CARB UP day? We could have a Cracker Convention!

I love soups and crusty breads, so I love this time of year. Can't wait to make some soups. I made my own chicken stock yesterday, so I look forward to making a soup out of it.

I have a foodblog that I have lots of vegan/vegetarian recipes on, but I've been slowly switching it over. I haven't posted for a while because I have been working full-time, but I'm back to part-time and I'll be back blogging the "cracker" way soon with lots of great recipes.

Hi lil ole Alissa
When I went on line to cry only Kelley's green light was on - everybody left Actually, by the time I was done whining she was gone as well.

First of all, thank you for encouraging me. I am nowhere near quitting the program or being disappointed in it. Yesterday was just weird. I am also perplexed that even though I did lose 7 pounds my pants are not any looser (well, maybe just a tiny-tiny bit).

Here's what I had yesterday:
M1 2 slices of conn-raisin EZ bread with just a touch of butter
2 hard boiled eggs, coffee (just cream, no sugar)

M2 crabcake and mashed potatoes, coffee w/cream. (Very, very tired after lunch)

M3 5 oz of cooked shrimp, salad, tomatoes (just few cherry ones), cucs, broccoli, 1/2 teaspoon of sunflower seeds on salad. (Hungry within an hour)

M4 chicken breast (3-4 oz)
M5 Atkins shake w/whipped cream on top. Meal 4 and 5 I ate within .5 hour of each other

The crabcake wasn't fried - it's an upscale seafood restaurant so that crab cake was pure crabmeat (falling apart). It wasn't fried (can't have fried food - strongly dislike it). However, it was very, very small (maybe 3 oz). I was the one talking but I was also the one who finished eating first. Mashed still had some skins in so they were not out of a box and felt light enough (also not a huge amount - maybe 4-5 oz if that). I didn't feel deprived of green beans just not sure what to do with them so I left them be

Now that I am writing all this I think I probably didn't have enough and that brought on those cravings which were probably just pangs of hunger.

I didn't crave anything specific. I guess it's good that I didn't reach for something and threw my efforts out of the window. I still had a pretty good presence of mind. I think that's why I was Ok eating some chicken and a protein shake. Maybe I am overreacting (or, rather, overfreaking out).

I don't think the Holidays are playing tricks on me. Ready? I don't like Halloween (grew up w/out it) and I don't particularly care for candies. Ice Cream is my poison of choice

I think I am mostly concerned with - how come my pants are not falling? From where did those 7 pounds come off!!!???

Thank you for helping me with this first crisis

Vladis, I'm feeling the same way as you, i'm down 8lbs, I don't feel as bloated my pants are looser and still can't go down a size. I think my big problem is not eating enough. I DON'T LIKE VEGGIES, you shouldve have seen me try to choke down cooked broccoli. I can do salad and have some things cut up very small and am fine, but I like the good full fat dressings. I am also having some emotional stuff going on so that makes it hard to, and to top it off I ran out of my antidepressants and have to wait till the insurance aprroves it again! Since my hytecotomy my hormornes so out of whack....so need them!

We can do this, I think we are doing the same week....w4/d4???? maybe our bodies are trying to trick us into thinking we don't want this....them damn demons....WE GOT THIS and we will both pull thru!!!!!
