Week 10 Day 3

Hey Alissa - thanks for the heads up on my post on the other thread. I thought it got lost in cyberspace. I must have had both weeks opened and posted it to the wrong one. I just got back from the dr. dh is trying accupuncture for his bad back and some other problems. This is week two of that. We'll try it for a while to see if it works. Guess what??? We are supposed to get 2 to 4 inches of SNOW tomorrow.

Reddi-Wip

Last night, when I was doing my grocery shopping, I saw that the Reddi-Wip spray had corn syrup in it and also sugar. I don't usually use things with corn syrup added, so is it okay if I make my own whipped cream using heavy whipping cream and pure vanilla extract and splenda?

Volunteer Luncheon

I work for the American Red Cross and today we had a volunteer recognition luncheon. The main entree was Hot Browns which is white bread, with mashed potatoes on top, covered with turkey and then smothered with cheese sauce and two slices of bacon over it. Vegetarian luncheon was broccoli alfredo pasta. When I arrived I asked them if they could make me something else, so I had turkey with a couple of tomato slices over it, (they put bacon on it) and steamed broccoli. I also had a very nice, large salad which I squeezed lemon juice over. Dessert was sitting right in front of my plate (pumpkin cheesecake) which I love, but I did not eat it. I did very well staying on plan, because my very favorite, yeast rolls, were being passed all around. That was the hardest!!

did someone mention flax seeds?

Flax oil is very healthy, and the seed itself is even more- it has lignans that are super good for us, high fiber, no net carbs. 1T. ground seeds= 1t. oil- so you can have 3 T as one good fat- you must grind it to digest it, and keep it frozen once ground to hold onto the nutrients and not let it get rancid.

Good for your hormones, full of Omega 3s, great for your skin and female dryness. Tried and true!!!!

Enjoy!

Jackie,
I buy my whipped cream in a local health food store. It is Natural by Nature Sweetened Light Whipped Cream - 2 TbSp - 15 cal; 1.5 fat; 1 carb (organic sugar); 0 protein. There are NO artificial additives at all. It is great!

P.S. I haven't had it since the beginning of this program

I make that dish, except I use fresh spinach that I cut up into small pieces. It is so good. Just remember that if you use frozen, when you thaw it, you will probably have to put it into a towel and squeeze all the water out. That's why I use fresh. I just find it is hard to get all the water out of frozen/thawed spinach and my dish ends up watery.

Hi Crackers!
OMG!! You all can talk (type) !! I finally got through all of these posts that have only occurred this week! My oh my! No wonder you start a new thread weekly! I'm doing great here! I say that, as I feel good, and my clothes are getting looser. My weekly weigh in yesterday did not show any more loss than the initial 5lb, but it doesn't matter, I know that it will come off. I was thrilled yesterday when I saw that one serving of EZ bread is TWO slices!! woo woo! I cheated myself of a slice yesterday, but no more! I had a slice for breakfast and one for lunch today...on my one starch before 3pm day. It will take me a bit to get used to what day means what, so I will walk around with the book, and all of your posts. I'm looking forward to trying the one minute muffin and fitting in some pumpkin stuff somewhere, somehow... It' a bit hard to be creative when I am on the road a lot. I'm thinking that Subway is about to become a good friend of mine, getting a salad instead of a sub..and doing my own dressing thing.

Some wonderful things that I have found this week include:
At Costco: Turkey burgers, frozen. not breaded patties, just turkey meat made into a burger, 'fry' it with some EVOO spray, add a little garlic, salt and pepper, num.
At Costco: Artichoke Tapenada - OMG..I could eat this stuff with a spoon! It is made with artichoke's, olive oil and spices. I have not decided where it will best fit in as yet, but if you count the fat as your fat...it is 1 gm carb, and very, very tasty. Stay tuned on how I might use this...
At Trader Joes - Egg white salad! An egg salad, made with just whites. I threw the pkg away, but it was wonderful with celery, and ingredients were such that it was fine for me to eat. 1/2 of the container was 1 carb.

I'm headed to Costco to get the Atkins shakes..that will work lots better for me than shaking up powder in a water bottle for the road.

Keep posting...it keeps me reading
Mitzy

Week 3 Day 2 minus 12lbs

Hi everyone,

Just checking in, Way to go Jackie! I love the way we are passing up our favorites, knowing we have a goal. To get in Wendy's book!

ok maybe to look and feel better. Hey looks like we're the two Linda's again. I hope the rest find their way here. The person who started the other post was doing great and then just dissappeard.

That's ok I love my home here with all you terrific ladies! I'm going to go shopping before work today and look for some of the stuff you all are using. I've kept it very simple but it's getting old. Maybe look through the recipes I've got and make something.

Let's not worry about our daughters who changed their mind they'll be back when they see our progress and then we can take them under our wing. I tried to get mine to join this site because she needs you all to pull her through. When she's ready.

Today has been weird, I am craving something, don't know what, but not hungry at all. Is that dumb or what? I'm used to grazing and I have lots of junk around but none of it is what's calling me. Just restless, maybe walking around the grocery store will show me. I'm not worried, I'm not hungry but it's just weird.

see ya all tonight after work.

I have 10 years younger in 10 hours and I have Callanetics Evolution. 10 in 10 was made in 1986...it is so awesome! I never thought I would like anything better, but I like Evolution better. I think 10 in 10 is easier so I think I would tell you to start out with that one. Then when you get addicted buy Evolution and switch them up...Evolution does a better job teaching you form and the pulses.

Was that confusing???

Beans

What is the thought on white beans? Just on free days? I know you can have black or red beans or lentils from the substitution list, but it doesn't mention white beans like great northern, limas, cannellini.

For lunch tomorrow, Week 2 Day 3 Baseline, I was going to make chicken soup with chicken meat and broth, saute some celery, onion, red peppers add to broth with some diced tomatoes, then I would like to add some beans can I add red beans to this or maybe I'll use red lentils. That would be really good.

Will this work for a baseline lunch?

pumpkin muffins

Tried the one minute muffin with pumpkin for a snack this morning. It was really good! To the original recipe I added 2 tbsp. pumpkin and doubled the baking powder. Used a little nutmeg with the cinnamon. Also doubled the cooking time-2min.(checked after one min. and it was still pretty wet.). Anyway,I hope this was an acceptable "tweak". Thought since pumpkin is so high in fiber and low in fat and carbs,it would be okay.
Having a hard time keeping up with the thread on working days. Will try to at least skim the 4 pages that appeared while I was at work. dede

DRAT! I just discovered that I missed my starch (S) at lunch today. I had 2 pieces of EZ bread set out on the counter in a sandwich bag and forgot to put it in my lunch bag. Dumb brain! I thought something was missing at lunch.

I just did my first full 5K run!

C25kers...Week 7 day 2 DONE!!

I had so much energy left at the end of my 25 min run I decided to keep going! It helped that my favorite song came on and it was 5 mins of pure joy to run the extra bit to make the full 5K run!!! I am elated!

And to think I almost passed on my run because my back was a bit stiff Goes to show you, a little push can get us in the saddle...once there...no stopping us!

Thanks for the virtual "reminder" CONNIE!!!

I love Arizona too. Ken and I went there in 2003 with the company we are distributors for. When we left the plane headed for the terminal I told Ken, "I could live here!" It was August and I set by the pool every day, something I would not do here. It was amazing and wonderful. I have a friend who lives in Tucson. I'd love to go visit her.

Looking for ways to improve - last night I sautéed it (in that one serving of allowable olive oil) with some shiitake mushrooms and put it over my fresh greens, cucs, radishes and tomato salad - it was de-li-ci-ous

2. EZ tortilla wrap. I checked the nutritional info first - one tortilla equals two slices of EZ sesame bread. I warmed up 1 tortilla, scrambled two eggs and put them on tortilla and added some ready-made salsa (no bad carbs, fat -checked that). Sprinkled some cheese and rolled it into a wrap. Yuuuummmyy

3. This one I haven;t tried yet but wondering if any of you ladies did. I saw EZ spaghetti and other types of pasta in the store. Wow! I wonder if that's any good.

That's it.

P.S. If anybody does any other tricks with broccoli, please let me know
Broccoli - Love, love, loved it - until week 1 LOL!!! I got sick of eating it too. Try this: Mix raw broccoli florets with garlic powder, salt pepper and some olive oil cooking spray. I grilled it on George Foreman till it was browned and tender. I made a "dip" with EVOO and spicy brown mustard. It was really good. The broccoli had a "nuttty" taste when it was grilled.

Haven't seen EZ pasta but I have had the EZ english muffins and the pitas. Both were yummy. I thought the tortillas were a little blah. Thanks for the tips!!

Ok - you need to go back and read the first chapters of the book - Wendy explains this. You are not only losing fat, but building lean muscle tissue which in turns burns more fat! Here is a picture that I hope helps you visualize what is happening in your body:

I'm a visual learner so I get not understanding until you see.

My original post says:

Carb Down Days: 1 carb meal before 3:00 pm
Baseline Days: 2 carb meals before 3:00 pm
Carb Up Days: Carb meals last 2 meals of the day

What I was saying above was that on Baseline days you can have it 2 times before 3:00. Is that not correct, or is that a misprint?
Please, please think of starches vs. carbs. - We are not avoiding carbs we are just choosing ones our body can deal with better.

So we can have 2 approved starches on baseline and 1 approved starch on carb down. Then for Carb UP you can have basically any starch you want the last meals of the day.
