Tracking the food I eat-Join me if you want

I have not been tracking the food I eat each day--be it the excuse that it takes too much time, I am not near a computer that day, or whatever.

I made myself plug it in, and it makes me realize what exactly adds up. For me, sodium is my biggest enemy, Me thinks......

I am going to post my yesterday's totals for awhile, with weight gain/loss daily, just to force myself to track my food, and see what affects my weight.

I am going to track what I eat, and then figure out which numbers I need to concentrate most on changing.

Anyone is welcome to join me in this. Maybe it will provide encouragement, and help each figure out what works for different genetics......

Yesterday (seminar and eating away from home) Not a normal day!!!
2600 Calories
166 fat
126 Carbs (2 cookies and scalloped potatoes)
130 protein
9 Fiber
4503 Sodium (Number I am going to concentrate on lowering--I am always above 2000)

Weight gain overnight......1 lb. (feel pretty fortunate, actually)

I fight the sodium battle too; like sugar, it's amazing how much of it can be hidden inside the most innocent packaging. I hope the information you gather helps you reach your goals!

I had a really high calorie day yesterday (for me) and posted a 1.5 lb loss today - my only loss of the week. Time will tell if it sticks or not, but it's interesting!

1785 Calories
139.6g Fat
29.7g Carb
5g Fiber
109.3g Protein

I don't usually worry about sodium, but it was 2475.4mg yesterday, a lot higher than normal.

Hmm...

I'll join you. I don't weigh in everyday though since I tend to get obsessive.

Yesterday I had:
1,581 calories
126g fat
27g net carbs (35g - 8g fiber)
99g protein

I track and then post it on the "It's <Insert Day> what are you eating" daily thread.

This thread is already helping me focus on the numbers I've been recording, but not necessarily watching, so thank you for initiating it!

Another very high calorie day for me, and another pound loss. I am really interested now to see if I can keep my calories high, will this continue? Or was it just time for my body to release some weight?

Yesterday:
1893 calories
146.2g fat
24.1g carbs
5.5g fiber
122.7g protein
2,761.5mg sodium (!)

Looks like you eat a lot like me. I can get away with that level of calories with low carbs-lose quite well. Only need to change when upping the carb ladder. And sodium is my biggest issue.

And I held even yesterday, by the scale, but kept the sodium below 2,000.
In trouble for today, because I had 4 slices of bacon. Have to watch the sodium today.......

Skipped tracking over the holiday.
I have all but supper put in the computer, for tracking, and will post totals. I think the 2 hot dogs for lunch toasted my sodium count for the day, though.....

Hope others are getting along with tracking foods.

25 Fiber
2700 Sodium

I need to think Sodium more. It always seems to be the downfall in my diet.

Got back on track yesterday, in putting things on computer tracker. Have been eating relatively close to plan most days. Scale was moving last week, until the weekend hit.
The unexpected always seems to derail me for few days.

Will post totals later. Just hoping some others might join in for accountability.

9/15 tracking
Calories 1779
fat 82
Sodium 3282
Carb 119
Fiber 28

Carbs came from unsweetened applesauce and fresh peach. So I don't feel too bad about that. Fiber was up closer to where I want it to be, but sodium is still too high. Chili soup and bacon on my salad for supper. Work on being better today.

Calories: 1341

Protein: 97

Lately I've been having one high-cal day (like 1700-1800) and then a low-cal day (say 1100-1300). Not sure yet how this is working out for me, and I'm not really doing it on purpose, it's just how it's been for the last week or so. Like yesterday, I only ate 1341 calories all day, and today I've already eaten 1048 and haven't eaten dinner yet.

Auntiesocial (love your name!!!)

How did yesterday go for you?

I was stuck with a lousy lunch option on Tuesday, so didn't eat much, but what I did wasn't the healthiest. Then I was starving by mid-afternoon, and cooked some bacon to get me thru evening chores. And sodium.....oh, my goodness!!!

9/16 food tracking

Calories 2773
Fat 205
Sodium 6054#%$@!
Carbs 48
Fiber 6
Protein 180

I need to concentrat on Fiber and Sodium, probably more than on Carbs.
Will work on that this week.

Yesterday went pretty well!

Calories - 1636
Fat - 120
Sodium - 618
Carbs - 25
Fiber - 4
Protein - 115

I should have eaten a little more yesterday - I was hungry most of the day, my lunchtime salad wasn't all that filling.

Right now, though, I'm pigging out on a bowl of pumpkin and cream cheese and splenda.. lol. I'm at home today, and being at home, I always eat more than I do when I'm at work.

I made the mistake of trying the cream cheese muffins, and the cream cheese pancake/crepe recipe. My goodness, those can get you to pig out, too. But the pancakes add some variety to breakfast, that I had been sorely missing.

Have a nice day at home. I can relate on that--I have an office in the house, and taking a break and hitting the fridge is part of my weight. But that habit has been pretty well overcome, except for those occasional bad days.......

Glad to have you join in. Hope you will post every day. Added incentive for me to remember to put my numbers up. I haven't tried to calculate the percentages on mine. Some claim that really makes a difference, though.

Karen, if you use Fitday or Daily Plate to log your food, it will calculate the percentages for you... I use Daily Plate, personally, but I have used Fitday in the past.

Yesterday I had:

Calories 1446
Fat 84 (52%)
Carbs 19.1 (5%)
fiber 4.1
Protein 147.4 (43%)
Sodium 6,312
Weight: lost 1 pound

I had King Crab last night and that added a whopping 78 grams of protein, so protein was high yesterday. Also added 4,000 mg of sodium! Thought those buggers tasted salty. I think I prefer the sweeter taste of the snow crab, and working more for it makes the high cost more worth it. Also snow crab is a bit less expensive so will likely stick with that in the future.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I do use fitday.com to track everything. They revamped it, and now it totally rocks. I was considering moving to sparkpeople, but now that fitday is so improved I'm going to stick with it.

Y'all, yesterday I ate WAY too much! Eek!

Calories - 2047 (!!!! Holy crap)
Fat - 166 (72.56 - fat was high yesterday, probably was why my calories were so high too)
Carbs - 31 (6.02)
Fiber - 7
Protein - 110 (21.43)
Sodium - 1821
My weight stayed the same from yesterday (that's good at least, since I ate like a pig!)

I'm gonna take a cue from Berries&Cream (hey Atlanta, we're practically neighbors! lol) and add my percentages and weight changes in here too.

I just did Curves for the first time today too. I think I'll stick with it. It was a good all around workout, people are nice, done in just 30 minutes 3 times a week getting both strength and cardio.... wrong topic but I'm a bit excited. I never really followed an exercise program before and think I can do this one!

That is exciting!! Good luck! I'm WAY too shy and self-conscious and physically uncoordinated to ever get up the courage to go to a gym. I walk a lot at work and try to Wii Fit for an hour a day at home.

Everything was much better today, but I have a tough time, with the variety in my days. The only schedule I have is to have no set schedule!!!!

What program do you use to track your intake? I've been using FitDay.com. I need to get better about doing it everyday or else I overeat.

This is today so far not including dinner. I did okay on everything but carbs, its my TOM, and I worked out hard today and I was ravenous for carbs so I ate a whole grain lean pocket and a mango. Darn it. Restart tomorrow.

I use fitday.com as well. I tried sparkpeople.com but now that fitday has been revamped will definitely stick with that.

Curves is women only so a little less intimidating then other gyms. It's really more for women looking to begin working out. I wouldn't recommend it for someone who already jogs and lift weights, its more for those of us who otherwise won't do anything. lol.
