BootCamp Charlie for Men (Stars and Stripes addition)

July 2008 EDITION

Welcome to Bootcamp Charlie, a place started by our man Mack's alter-ego, Sarge. All men are welcome to join, but be preapred to exercise, eat right, and catch some flak for slacking off. We don't give hugs and kisses for failure, but will give a swift kick in the pants when you need a little encouragment.

The rules are easy:

1. Weigh in every Monday. Report your previous weeks weight and your current weeks weight.

2. On the 1st of each month report what you can:

All time high
Weight as of 1/1/2008
Current weight
Total pounds from high
Total pounds lost in 2008

3. No Emoticons. Nothing will get you latrine duty faster than a smiley.

4. Visitor's are welcome every Sunday and on Holidays to post encouragment or whatever you feel like saying. We're men and need our place, but we do enjoy visits formthe ladies.

5. Share what works, what doesnt, but check in often. Straying from the camp for a period usually means somethings gone wrong. While tempting, don't go AWOL just because you screwed up. We don't like to send out the MPs, but will when necessary.

Hey Guys..Harley Checking in after a long, long week last week. I was working on the project in the North East and all Hell broke out. I worked everyday from 5 am to midnight. I still didn't get everything working exactly correctly, but good enough for now. I will have to make another trip out there in the next couple of weeks.

Montly Weigh in:
June 1 - 236
July 1 - 240
I gained 4 lbs over the past month...not good. I did eat a couple meals off plan and I drank some beer, so it is my own fault. I have re-commited and will get it going in the correct direction.

Harley Out!

-7 for the month which also included my carb binge to get things going again. Not too shabby. I have higher hopes for July and by the end of August I hope to be in virgin fat territory.

Anyone up for a July weight loss challenge of some sorts?

A solid June for me. I'm getting dangerously close to goal.

No need to send the MPs after me if you don't hear from me for a couple of weeks. I'm not AWOL, just on vacation. I am leaving the country for 10 days starting Thursday, so there is a good chance I won't be in until the middle of the month.

Big D have a good time I have to wait a couple more weeks for vaca.

Ok guys big weekend coming up. Lots of hamburgers and hot dogs and carb loaded salads. Use your noodles and get it done. I'm going to drag the camper down to DW's cousin's place for the weekend and I will be bringing some chili and un-potato salad. Just to have a stash of legal eats. The damned beers will be my biggest issue. But I'll get through it.

Oh and Happy Canada Day Ken you know what need to get done.

Awesome progress guys. I am in total agreement with todunlop. 4th of July will offer many opportunities to slip up. As far a beer goes, I usually go with Bud Select. Not too bad on the carbs, not too bad on the taste. Anyone have other beverage advice???

Huff out.

I drink Miller Lite almost exclusively (with a little Michelob Ultra once in awhile). 3.2g carbs per 12 oz. and like 94 calories. Tastes much better than most other lite beers. I have a few per week and most bars have both. Haven't noticed any problems with my weight loss at all.

Back from my few days of travels.

High November 2007: 276
1/4/2008 265.8

For the month of June I'm down 7.6
6/1/2008 228.4
7/2/2008 220.8

Down 55 lbs since Nov 2007.

Congrats to all you losers this month. I was really surprised to see everyone (ok, almost everyone) doing so good.

Ive started the C25k program, week 1 completed...but Ive kicked it up a notch and linked that to my riding. So my exercise program starts with 30 minutes of C25k then followed with at least 17 miles of bike riding.
Ive got the duathlon registration signed and a check in the envelope....

Afternoon Campers,

Welcome to camp Michael, be sure to try and post daily if you can seems to help keep most accountable. Do post if you screw up we're only human. We all do falter now and again it happens. So you go to the gym are you doing weight lifting, cardio or both? You've got a good jump on things keep it up and before I forget drop and give us 20 for good measure.

Wall I either do a protein shake or and egg cream. Unless dinner is real close but I do try to have some form of protein w/in the hour after the workout.

Well I'm off till Monday gonna be nice to relax a few days yeah right. I'm going to go swing the maul for and hour or 2. Get dinner going and then DW and I are scheduled for lower body tonight. I think I created a monster. DW pissed me off the other day and I figured I'd do my upper body routine alone but she got her butt down their and joined me right after I started working out. Well after working out all was good. I guess I took my frustration out on the weights instead of letting loose on her.

Time to sweat men Ed Out

After cardio I usually just drink water. After lifting I'll have a power smoothie (aka protein shake).

Hey Camp Charlie! Just checking in. The scale is still on the downward side. Heading out to walk in 90+ degree heat. Figure that should keep the scale moving.

Corpus - I can do Miller Lite. Pretty good beer. Thanks for the advice.

hi!
I go to the gym with my wife 4-5 times a week. I do 30 minutes cardio - either all elliptical or 20 minutes elliptical and 10 minutes fast walk (3 mph) with a 1 incline on treadmill. Then 20 reps on every hydraulic machine in the circuit.

I've been to the gym 40 times so far. 10 more workouts they give me a free T-shirt!

I'm tired when I get out, but I feel great. My lovely wife can't walk, but she does the circuit on all the arm machines and a couple of the leg ones. Just getting out of her wheelchair and getting on and off the machines is a workout in itself.

I had a HUGE milestone this week. For the last 15 years or so, my first goal in losing weight was to be a pants size smaller by the time I wore my pants out (in the thighs, BIG guys you know what I mean) And I've never been able to do that in all the times I've started and restarted trying to lose weight.

When they opened my gym just down the street from my house (half mile walk) I made a commitment to go 5 times a week and do what I could do.

In a month my tight 48 jeans got looser, and this week I decided to try on 46's and was able to take 2 pairs home! I'm wearing 46's for the first time in like 2 years and they aren't killing me as I sit and type this. They ain't even relaxed fit. HUGE psychological boost.

I can't go to the gym tomorrow - got JURY DUTY...but the upside is there's a BBQ place next to the courthouse...I can get some Brisket for lunch.

Thursday evening

hey guys, feeling great today, just got back from a 5k run, took me just under 35 mins, which isnt bad for me, i dont really run fast, soemthing to improve on anyway,

also had a good time with my daughters soccer game tonite, the main coach wasnt there tonite and it was only me coaching, so far the girls won all 6 of their games so far so i didnt want to have them lose with just me coaching, it started slow but they got into it and won 7-2, which was amazing,

got one more nite shift tonite, then the wifes birthday tomorrow, which shes already talking about all the crap shes gonna eat , that was the reason for my extra run tonite, gotta be ready for the cavalcade of crap, shes talkin chinese buffet, dairy queen and baskin robbins , well its her day so she can do what she wants now that shes an old broad of 33 yrs old!

anyhow, take care guys, have a good holiday weekend, i dont suspect you will be around much this weekend, so see ya on monday!
