Wow. A gal goes to sleep for the night and the thread EXPLODES! I'm thinking that will be a typical thing around here!

Love the mascot. Challenges sound good too. I'm not one to get TOO crazy with competition but am always game to participate. I did an Amazing Race Challenge with my sister a few months back and it was good. Other ideas besides water or general exercise is that we could challenge specific exercises...like a certain number of abdominal exercises, jump rope, a different exercise machine at the gym....things to get us slightly outside our comfort zone.

Five things about me:
1. I'm an American living in Australia.
2. I'm a stay-at-home mom without kids (and a photographer). Best job in the world!
3. I'm basically a hermit. I go workout most days and head to the beach most days but other than that....I'm a homebody.
4. Procrastination is something I deal with regularly.
5. I recently started learning how to surf with a boogie board. The water is too cold now to keep going, but I can't wait until Spring when I can get back into the water with my board. Less than 2 years ago, I couldn't swim and would panic in the water.

Cheers all-

I'm going to post the revamped revamped mascot! But I think this looks great!

Sapphire, Larry the Cable Guy is a comedian. Go to You Tube and you'll find all his stuff over there! Hilarious!

Oh, he's lost 50lbs. so I think he's a pretty darn good motivator/mascot for our team.

Sybil-kudos on getting over the fear of water! Put that into perspective! It is going to be much easier to lose weight and get healthy than get over a fear like that!

So I was thinking maybe we should find something we all have in common for the team name. We will have to pay attention to something that is common (besides weightloss duh) Maybe Blazing Beauties, since we seem to like blazing buffalo wings. And I know we are all beauties!! Plus we are going to blaze right past the competition!!

Has anyone checked out the other teams threads? I have to say I am pretty proud of our team. We all seem pretty motivated and ready to participate!

Other name ideas

Slow and steady wins the race
(That would be a good motto)

Featherweights
(since we will soon be light as a feather)

No Reservations
(because next year we will have no reservations about our accomplishments)

Thintabulous
( we will be thin and fabulous!)

Anyway just some other ideas

If you don't know Larry, the Cable Guy, please check him on on YouTube. If you are offended by some of his material, go to a different episode. His appearance is part of his 'gig'. Let us know what you think.

Lora, The new, improved avatar/mascot is perfect. So, if we all do agree on it, you will tell us how to get it here, right?

Sounds like we are revving our motors and ready to roll! I am so very motivated and glad to begin un-procrastinating (if that's a word). Procrastinating gets me in more trouble ................fat loss, housework, gassing the van, etc. :-]

About me:

1. Married almost 30 years. (Yup, to the same guy).
2. Daughter 28, single; works at a home for challenged adults and coaches Special Olympics. She's actually here, on another team. Son 26, married w/19 month daughter and 3 1/2 year old son and a baby due in December....He's a medic who's served in Iraq, a volunteer firefighter, first responder, and EMT. His "real" job is Communications Officer at Sheriff's Dept.
3. I'm kind of disabled due to spinal stenosis and degenerated discs.
4. Learning to knit and crochet.
5. We live in a log house in the woods, with the bears, squirrels, birds, turkeys, and deer.

I think Larry would like to be the avatar/mascot for the "Heavenly Bodies"!!

Hi Ladies:

I like the ideas for names. Creativity is definitely not by strong point so I will defer to those of you who have the great ideas.

I will check out Larry the Cable Guy. Do we know how he lost his fifty pounds?

About me:

1) Married 5 years to a wonderful man
2) Mom to an awesome 22 month old little boy
3) Lawyer working in-house for a large company
4) Love to run but currently have no time
5) Love Wine

I am ready to get on track tomorrow morning. We had guests for Memorial Day and I did not have time to prep food for the week so today's eating was a wash. Prepping is so important for me when it comes to staying on plan.

Have a good evening everyone!

Lora - I'm good with Larry as our mascot, too. You did a great job on the avatar!
Wendy - very creative names....I like blazing beauties but am totally ok with whatever the vast majority want.

Did a very hard workout today....30 minutes strength training and 50 minutes HIIT cardio (split between bike, treadmill & elliptical) plus 15 stretching/abs. Felt good to really push it. Tomorrow is a rest day but think I might do yogalates at home before leaving for my 9:30 waxing appointment.

Had a doctor appointment today. FINALLY, he has decided my blood pressure is under control and meeting his target. I had to bring in a 2 week record of my home BP readings AND my machine to compare to his. My readings in the office are always horrible....I seriously have white coat hypertension.

The 'bad' news is that on my last 2 lab workups, my blood glucose has been slightly elevated so he wants me to do a 2 hour fasting blood glucose challenge. As I've recently (less than 3 months ago) switched to low carb, I'm going to put off the test for another month or two to give the low carb way of eating a good trial.

The only thing that makes me re-think the waiting is that IF it comes back that I'm diabetic, he will put me on metformin. Double edged sword.....the metformin MAY help me lose weight (especially since I suspect I'm Insulin resistant) - but I really don't like the idea of being on any additional medications. Still think I'll hold off for a couple months and see if I can break through this 2 1/2 month stall without pharmaceutical intervention. My thought is once a doc gets you on a medication, it's hard to get off of it.

Skeopple-sounds like you live in a lovely place! We visit Hudson, WI once a year to visit family.

Justice-LOVE wine also! My partner is a viticulturist.

sapphire & Lora- we CAN overcome this procrastination (can't we?!)

I Heavenly Bodies! Also, I can change the shirt to read our team name by the way.

30 years! Fantastic! My parents were married for 36 years until my Mom passed away a four years ago.

My DB and I have been engaged for so long...(over 5 years)! We've known each other for 10 years! I have a couple of kitties, one is an orange tabby, the other is a Maine Coon with same coloring as the tabby, a yellow and gray cockatiel, and a fresh water fish tank that lately seems to have an explosion of...snails? (No, no kiddos. I'd like a dog though!)

Hey guys! I finally found ya'll! I've been skimming the lowcarb challenge board daily but finally went back to the original thread and found you.

I'm really excited to have this accountability group. The buddy system really helped the first time I started Lc'ing. From there it has been failure after failure. I just can't seem to hold it together by myself. And with a husband who can eat anything and flaunt it in my face... it's hard.

Well, I guess I'll jump right in to my 5 facts

1. I'm a 28 year old married, mother of 3. A daughter and 2 sons.

2. I've been a stay-at-home mom for 7 years. This is the first year all my kids were in school and now that summer is almost here I'm freaking out! I haven't had all of them home during the day/ every day since last summer.

3. I've struggled with extremes in food for 10 years. I've tried every diet, every pill, I've abused laxitives. Generally, I just have awful body issues that I have been trying to work on. Atkins really helps with cravings. I'm not thinking and obsessing about food all the time.

4. I'm lazy when it comes to exercise. Once I get going I stick with it. it's just taking that first step....

5. I'm addicted to home design and remodeling. I usually have at least one project going at any given time. Right now it is my bedroom. We just finished our major bathroom redo. it's like a disease. I hope I can stop soon. We've lived here for 2 1/2 years already and nothing is the same!

Well, it's been nice to meet ya'll. I'll be running errands today. But I'm glad I found you guys and look forward to the challenge.

And Larry would be a great mascot!!

Angela

Angie- Glad I am not the only one kind of dreading summer break
It is hard to keep them entertained after they have had such structured days during the school year!

I am not really very good at reading labels on things, and although I have been doing induction I would take the occasional nibble of something here and there. A couple of days ago my kids wanted those gross powdered donuts in a box from the grocery store. It was really tempting to pop one in my mouth since they are bite sized. I looked at the label though, 27 carbs per serving! Glad I didn't eat it. It has payed off too, when I weighed myself this morning I broke into the 180'sI can't kick the sugar cravings though. Anyone have a really great recipe for something sweet?

Yes, I do!

Thanks to Carolyn F.

Pineapple Sour Cream Pie
Saw this in a cookbook..haven't made it, but it looks great. For those who can tolerate pineapple

1 small box of SF vanilla instant pudding
8 ounces crushed pineapple in its own juice
1 Tbs. Splenda
2 cups sour cream

One baked LC pie crust that has been cooled.

Mix the pudding with the pineapple, add the Splenda, then fold in the sour cream until all mixed well. Pour into LC pie crust..Refrigerate..

You could use berries with their juice, too!

If I figured correctly, we have 10 members with 532 pounds to lose. This is FUN and EXCITING.

Just got back from my doctor appointment and I'm pretty pleased. They took blood for lab work so don't know those #'s yet; but the scale was good to me and dr. is happy.

total of 27 pounds down, so am changing my stats to show that....I hadn't remember correctly how much I weighed when I started....probably purposely forgotten!!!!

Skeopple - 27 pounds - that's wonderful! Your stats are very similar to mine, so we can help each other along the way

Lora - that Pineapple Sour Cream Pie looks heavenly I can't wait to be able to add fruit back in. I know I can eat berries and maintain, but I don't know that I can lose weight while eating them, so probably best to avoid them for a while. I'm thinking I will just keep them as a special treat for Disney for now.

Hadenuff and Angie - I did mention I'm a teacher, right Can't wait for summer to begin here

Justice - I'm with you on the food prep - I cannot stay on plan if I don't get everything prepped for breakfasts and lunches on Sunday afternoon.

Final note - I'm all for Larry the Cable Guy as our Mascot - and I like the team name Blazing Beauties or Heavenly Bodies, either one (but I really kind of like Blazing Beauties!) Anyway, lets take a vote and pick something by the end of the week.... We are going to be awesome!!

I was going to make an Oopsie crust to go with the recipe!

Sharon, that is great news!

We have to decide on a name!

Down to Blazin' Beauties (I prefer) or Heavenly Bodies (I like, too!)

Let's take a vote!

Oh, and does anyone have any hints for keeping track of ourselves? What I mean is, I'm thinking to make a list of everyone's screen name/real name and then make little notes about each person because my little pea brain has a hard time keeping up with new people and their lives. Has anyone done this before or are you all just sharp as a tack with great memories?
