2008 Mid-Year Resolution Challenge, Sign up thread

Why I created the Mid-Year Resolution

Four years ago about this time I decided that by December 31st I was going to be a new person. I was tired of being fat, and at 325 pounds, I was just tired! And who generally sticks to the New Year Resolutions anyway? I decided that instead of waiting for the gloomy proposition of another December 31st wishing I had done something about my weight loss, I was going to spend that time looking back and being excited about what I had started.

As a result, I'd lost over 60 pounds by Christmas.

I'm issuing this challenge for a Mid-Year Resolution to everyone who is interested.

What is your goal for the New Year?


No. But really. Why?


Imagine us being HAPPY on December 31st, instead of thinking, "I wish..." ..."I wish"... We're doing something new and unconventional here.. we're shooting FOR a New Year's and not merely FROM a New Year's!

We're getting rid of the regrets and replacing them with success! Just envision all of us, on New Year's, looking slimmer in those party hats (who needs fat heads). Shoot for your goals! If you exercise and stay true, stick with us, and get ready to boogie on New Year's Eve, how can you not make it? This challenge will incorporate mini challenges, positive support and discussion on a weekly basis. Some choose to use the thread as a daily launching pad. This challenge is what you make it, so make it something wonderful!

General Rules:

1. Check in each *Monday with your weigh-in.
If you are going by inches and not pounds, you can still join!


*Some don't weigh in on Mondays, but I feel that getting people through the weekend accountably makes the biggest difference in success.


2. When you check in, please put your stats as such:

cleochatra / 80 pounds to lose/ 0 lost/ 80 pounds to go!

3. Each week there will be a new thread. Check in and update your totals! Unlike the other MYR challenges there will not be a spreadsheet, and you are responsible for keeping track of your own numbers by checking in with updated stats. This will greatly reduce my stress levels and help you keep track of your accomplishments.

ie, you'll now check in like this with your own updates:

cleochatra 100 pounds to lose/ 5 lost/ 95 pounds to go!

4. Just be accountable and don't forget to check in!


Suggestions for success in this challenge:

1. Be reasonable. Two pounds per week for an overall loss of about 50 pounds makes much more sense than shooting for 100 in 6 months. If you lose more, terrific; but if you stall... well, let's just say I lose more people that way...

2. Be accountable. You must check in for support. If you drop out, you're not being accountable--you've given up!

3. Be real. Remember, you're not expected to be perfect, and you are not judged or compared to others. You are your own unique person. Relish this, and stick with this challenge.

4. Be ready. The challenge begins June 2. If you want to begin now, check in with your current weight, and then on Monday, start subtracting.

Are you excited about this challenge? Great! Bring a friend! Put your goal in your signature line. Let people know you own this challenge!

Welcome aboard, gunadinn! It's nice to have you! I just began induction again yesterday, so this is a good way to cement positive lifestyle changes before the holidays even hit!

Oh no, you're fine! You had mentioned Memorial Day so I figured it'd be popping up soon. SSSSOOOO excited though, having this really helped me last year and this year is even harder for me since I am losing so much slower so I can really use it.

I wanna join in too! I really need the encouragement. I start to low carb, feel good, and then sabotage myself. No more cheat days, those just bring on crazy cravings and I can never get back to my WOE.

ME, ME, ME!!!! I'm IN wid ya, Cleo!!! This is awesome timing, because I'm just coming off my first week of reinduction. Thanks for kicking off the challenge....summer is always my hardest time, for some reason, and this will keep me on the straight and narrow.

SHinOK: 60 pounds to lose/6 lost/54 to go

I'm counting my 6-pound loss from last week, since it was A LOSS (yippee skippee!). The rest will be a challenge, but I'm READY! 60 pounds isn't my total, all-time goal (ugh), but I'd be doing the happy dance in the streets on New Year's Eve if I could knock off 60 lbs by then!!!!!

Happy mid-year everyone! I would like to join. I think I am going to go back to induction for a bit. I am getting too liberal with the low carb foods and not losing. I will set my goal for 50 lbs. I haven't weight 150 since high school. Woohoo!

Oh, and Cleo, thanks so much for starting this thread. I have only posted at a few small boards before, and this place is quite overwhelming. All I have done is lurk over at that "other" thread since summer. I just never felt I could jump in anywhere. Hope this thread is all I hope it will be!

I hope this is a "Challenge" I can do since it's about goals right? I pretty much follow a controlled carb, low gl plan with high fiber. I promise not to push my views on fiber on anyone but I'll be a cheerleader for all!

For the past few weeks I've been working on repairing my metabolism by adding foods in to up my calories, but I admit it's gotten out of control. Yogurt & berries - good; splurging at Cheesecake Factory - not so much. And exercise has really fallen by the wayside

I've lost my mojo & need to get it back!
