Hello MzMelissa

Absolutely. Take it one day at a time and one meal at a time and make those meals something special - set the table. Light a candle. Use cloth napkins and cutlery. Make use of your wine goblets and champagne flutes for ice tea and ice water. The extra effort in my opinion, does a whole lotta good for my mental health

Food isn't my enemy so I make eating it as enjoyable as possible

Count me in too please. 161 to lose/ 88 lost to date / 73 to lose

For this challenge and second half of the year I am going to set it at

75 to lose/ 0 lost to date / and 75 to lose.

I would so love to finish up 2008 and bring in the new year of 2009 at my goal weight of 145. This challenge is just what I need to get refocused. Thanks.

i really do need the accountability. i've been yo-yoing back and forth it seems.
my plan is a very conservative deficit, my goal, very slow but steady losing.

yay! the motivation will really help me stay on track! we will be moving around all summer

OK - so this should tell you how I've been doing lately: I just had to move a bag of clothes and two storage boxes, and then turn on a light in the corner in order to weigh myself! I've definitely been off track for too long!

So I'm in! I'm going to put the full amount that I need to ultimately lose, although I don't really expect to do it by the end of the year (seeing as I literally have friends who weigh what I need to lose!)

115 to lose/0 lost/115 to go

I'm in. I need it. I am floundering! I look forward to meeting everybody and getting to know you all better!!

I want to be down 40 lbs by December 31st. True induction (yes, Melinda, that means NO NUTS and NO MILK!) for 2 weeks. Then a proper progression up the ladder. 183 as of now. (TOM is here so maybe I will get a mock whooshie to psyche me out! Go me! Go!)

Woohoo!

Good morning, everyone!

It is really nice to see you signing up and getting ready for Monday. Of course I started this Monday because I need all the help I can get, and what good am I if I'm not abiding by the rules!

I'm excited about this challenge because it is important to evolve with time, especially when some things work and some do not. As such, I'm changing the challenge from year to year in an effort to make you more successful, and to keep things interesting. You might always like the changes, and that's where we can adapt as we go.

Now, I stated earlier to not choose a huge number as a goal; yet I did. I said that although it is smart to choose a goal which amounts to a 2-pound loss a week, I chose a goal with a 4-pound loss per week.

Is this setting myself up for success or for disaster?

This depends largely on the person, and whether one is motivated by huge goals or beaten down by them.

If you are beaten down by big goals and generally set yourself up to fail, then please adjust your numbers down. You know better than anyone else if this is your pattern of behavior. Do you often find yourself setting high goals for yourself and not hitting them? Are you a perfectionist? Are you a self-saboteur?

If so, consider adjusting your numbers by at least 30%.

Why? Small goals matter. You can hit your goal in this challenge and set a new goal. You don't have to bite off huge chunks of hope only to find yourself at the buffet table up to your elbows in, "I am a failure."

I am going to repeat this message on Monday. Think about it today. I'm already rethinking my 100.

It is not a sign of weakness to change your mind when you realize you're headed towards a disaster. Avert disaster. Pick a goal that invigorates and inspires you, not one that antagonizes.

I think I'm going to rethink my numbers. I am a very slow loser, and with some physical things going on with me right now, I can't even promise to eat a low carb diet. Don't really want to get into all the details; just to say I haven't felt well since the beginning of the year. So, I'm thinking about trying to lose 3 pounds a month for the next six months. This is doable for me.

I definitely edited mine. Not by a vast sum, but I am good for about 80, and 86 puts me at the 150 I promised my kids I'd lose this year.

It's ok if you're not low-carbing. I'll take folks who want to make positive changes and hang on for the rest of the year.

I'll take goalies, too. We can always work towards better health and small changes for overall benefits!

I know that 80 is a high goal, but even if I don't reach it, I'm sure I am more motivated by that number. SO, in turn, I would lose more with an 80lb goal than say a 40lb goal, KWIM??? If I said 40 pounds, I would slack!

WOE: Stella Style/Atkins Induction my style ;]
Start Date: October 2006
I have been at a stall for months now and nothing is helping. I gave up all my SA too Cleo...I am hoping it helps with my hip pan and headaches. I did fix me a batch double batch of sweet oopsie rolls made with 10 eggs, Cream Cheese, 1 TBS of Dark Cocoa Powder, 1 TBS of Peanut Butter, 2 TBS of Chocolate De Vinci Syrup and 1 tsp of Powder pure Stevia since I am having a peanut butter/chocolate craving right now even thou my TOM is gone but I am still having my darn PMS Symptoms..all of them~~I know these are not induction friendly but one ever once in a while..they keep for almost a month in my cold fridge and maybe it will help me with my cravings. If you want to see a pic let me know and I will post them.

HUGS

My goal works out to be a little over 4 pounds per week. I'm hoping to get that, but even half by Decemeber 31st is better then another year of I'll start January 1st

Leanne-- I totally understand that sentiment! If you feel more motivated by a number that is higher and won't let it deter you, then super!

What I find generally is that the people who choose the highest numbers drop out of this challenge by October. I don't want this to happen. Life changes are for the long haul, and this is why we're taking small steps with big hopes.

Why do folks leave by October? People find they aren't losing as quickly, or stall (which happens!) or feel as though they're failures for not losing as quickly as others. This is statistically what I've seen, and it tends to be an all or nothing rut we place ourselves into. I don't want to lose people this year, and I refuse to be a statistic of my own statistics (which is why I adjusted).

I think they leave cause the holidays are impending and they wanna cheat! lol That's what happened to me last year.

Question. What is all of your feelings on eating your LC, but not the greatest foods in the morning vs. evening??? Like, I had about 2.5oz of cheese and a cup of coffee with cream for breakfast. My thoughts are that I have all day to burn this stuff off (I know, I'm trying to trick myself aren't I). Or, if I just have my cheese and coffee and cream in the am and avoid it all day.

Hard to get started here, been lurking since January. Very dedicated; not strict enough (if that makes sense?) My DH and I eating only low-carb, just not inducting or counting. I believe I sometimes over-eat lc. hence not much weight loss. Hubby keeps physically busy, so he loses greatly.

I'm in for the challenge. Re-reading Atkins DANDR by Monday.

Thanks for the help with the sig arynn. I couldn't figure it out either!

I lost 13 lbs in the last 10 days on atkins induction so I am counting it into my overall goal. I think I am going reward myself every 10 lbs with a new outfit (or two) It is so stresfull for me to shop for clothes since I put this weight on. Maybe this will ease the pain being able to watch the sizes drop. Plus I think mini goals along the way will help me. Anyone else doing any reward system?

Hey, just checking in today. Will only weigh on Monday mornings, but I thought I'd post my menus here, in addition to on the other induction thread.

Yesterday's food:
B -- coffee w/cream & Kahlua davinci, bacon, pumpkin custard
L -- jerk seasoned roast turkey, lettuce, green olives, alfalfa sprouts, bacon bits, ranch dressing
S -- sharp cheddar cheese
D -- brisket

I made a weeklong batch of that pumpkin custard, and it's higher in carbs than I thought, so it breakfast snags about half of my carbs this week!

Have a great day, everybody...
