Following the thread.. and thought I would post one week restart results for me an my wife. We currently eat 100-200 over BMR and "lowish" carb mealplan. Only exercise is WATP 1 mile with weights 4-5 days a week. Will be adding Pilates and then weight training, so I will probably up calories a little as we increase.

Me: -4 pounds (187.5 to 183.5)
Wife: -3 pounds

I actually have done this before and went from 205 to 185 before I hurt my back and stopped weight training. (Actually hurt it picking up my son and not because of exercise). My wife is type 2 and actually the hardest part is getting her to eat enough. She is on Byetta which makes her not as hungry and then just busy at work.

Kabuto, Hi and Welcome.
Looks like you two are doing great for week one.
Eating enough CAN be a challenge mostly because of our ingrained eat less diet thinking. I'm sure the added appetite supression of medication makes it even harder for your wife. Its awesome you two are doing this together and have that added level of acccountability. I know you both will succeed!

Thanks, everyone! I'm so excited. Onederland seems actually obtainable at this point. I swear, when I see a "1__" instead of a "2__" I will cry! Of course, my pattern is to lose a lot, gain some, lose a lot, gain some, so I'm sure I'll be up again..but it will come off

This Couch to 5K program is great, too! I'm sure it's helping, and I'm becoming addicted to it.

Getting better at planning; by 2pm today I'd set up food for the rest of the day. I'll be nibbling at salmon/egg/mayo salad the rest of the day. Yummy!

I'd like to give this a try also. BMR is 1730 so I'm setting my goal from 1730 to 2200 and will be tracking with fitday. Am hoping this will help break my 2 month plateau!

Aaaaah Mayo. How I love thee Mayo.

I eat ALOT of this. Probably a huge majority of my calories come from mayo and CO. As long as you're measuring and tracking it I don't think it can hurt you. Its the sneaky unaccounted for mayo that is probably quite dangerous. beware ninja mayo.

As I learn to use FitDay I am losing my fear that I shall not be able to find food to fill my BMR:2423cals and I'm learning that I need to build more protein into my plan. Using mayo sure helps stuff glide down my gullet. Since I stopped drinking with meals, I find eating a more challenging activity. Mayo helps.

But my next salmon salad will be more fishy/eggy and less mayo-y, to get my protein grams up to target and hold my fat grams down a bit. I want to LOSE weight. Got plans to be lighter on my feet. Still have a hinky hip, but so what? Taking 200# off will surely help even a hinky hip. Oh, I can hardly WAIT!!!

With the data that this thread has provided me, I feel as if I am in charge! It's a great feeling to have, after decades of feeling as if I'm a slave to carbs!

I'm so glad I found this thread!!!! I started reading and seriously thinking about eating to my BMR today, and poof, here is this thread. I'm 5'11 and 254.6 lbs as of yesterday. Using the HB equation and the conservative lightly active calculation, my BMR is 2652! I never counted calories before, but I don't think I ever come close to eating that when in ketosis. I started a fitday today. I've always been resistant to tracking calories. Not sure why, I'll count carbs till the cows come home, but calories, I'd rather sit on the pointed end of a stick than count calories!!! Right now I am at my highest weight ever and since I restarted LC, I thought that the weight would come off faster, given my previous patterns when I did not even weigh this much. But my another part of the pattern is that I lose well for about 3 months and then weight and inch loss comes to a screeching halt. Then I go for months w/o losing while eating clean. That is when I usually get discouraged and eventually fall off plan, then gain all the weight back and start all over again. I never found a way to break the stall and I never had the gumption to subject myself to a low fat/low carb/low everything woe to try to break it.

I forced myself to eat more today then afterwards plugged it all into fitday. This is somewhat of a rough estimate because I did not know what to plug in for certain items. For instance, I marinated some salmon in sesame oil and seasonings. But how much sesame oil did I end up eating? I don't know, but I estimated 1.5 tablespoons. Anyway, here is my tally:

grams cals %total
Total: 2100
Fat: 171 1539 75%
Sat: 45 407 20%
Poly: 27 246 12%
Mono: 62 559 27%
Carbs: 25 63 3%
Fiber: 9 0 0%
Protein: 114 456 22%
Alcohol: 0 0 0%

This includes about 190 cal and 19g fat from my supplements: fish oil, cla, gla, & sesamin.

I am excited to try this! It's a relief to find information that does not involve seriously restricting my diet any further. But I have to say, it won't be easy. I ate dinner 5 - 6 hours ago and I am still stuffed, like Thanksgiving day stuffed.

Alisa,
HI! Welcome... we just started this thread a week ago so you're getting in on the ground floor. I think the majority of us have been in a similar boat as you are - plateaued or seriously stalled while already not eating too many calories, and balking at the idea of further and further restrictions as a solution.

You'll get used to fitday, and you're right someimtes its just an estimate. The important thing is to know the absolute minimum number of calories you must eat and really aim for it.

I can relate to that too! Some of the tricks we've bene using is eating many more smaller meals, adding CO for extra fat calories, eating before we're really hungry. finding delicious high cal snacks like avocado and mayo etc.

I'm glad you're giving this a try.

If you check out the combo thread in the vit/supps forum you will find the combo (cla/gla) is a known weight staller.

I've heard that before. But thinking back to the last time I was on LC, I lost weight and inches when I took cla/gla. When I was stalled, going off the combo did not get things started for me again. Neither did eliminating/limiting dairy, nuts, doing m&e fasts, etc to try to eliminate the "staller." The truth is, I don't think I'm that my system is all that sensitive to things like that. The time when I did atkins most successfully (in terms of lbs lost), I was eating a lot of common stallers. I ate lc shakes, bars, lc candies daily and I was losing quite easily. But since then I've stuck to eating whole foods the weight loss is much more difficult and slow. I don't think it's simply a matter of me eating something that stalls me. I wish it were that simple, because then I would just eliminate it from my diet and get on with it.

9am...feeling well-nourished, I'm futzing with FitDay to tidy up some entries that are not quite right (like a "liter of olive oil" where I want a Tbs) and need to be deleted - if I can manage to do so.

So, I was so happy to read that it seems the average loss in the first week was 4lbs. How cool is that?

Don't keep expecting big numbers, though. Just be realistic of 1-2lb/week.

My hope is that come Sunday I am 267.

I am upping my protein a bit as I'm concerned about muscle growth right now. Calories still on target.

Just gotta say, I love lc. I have had to leave another WL board for all the whining of "I can't do this", deprivation, unhappiness and most do low cal, low fat. Me? Never not satisifed!

Today:
4-6 protein shakes w/H20
ground chicken with taco seasoning, cheddar and sc
broccoli
almonds
dinner will likely be steak

Ok, so once I eat my intended dinner, my totals will be:

grams cals %total
Total: 2340
Fat: 182 1641 72%
Sat: 52 472 21%
Poly: 32 289 13%
Mono: 38 339 15%
Carbs: 26 68 3%
Fiber: 9 0 0%
Protein: 140 560 25%
Alcohol: 0 0 0%

I feel like I ate a lot of food today already. It's hard getting over the notion that I'm eating too much.

I know what you mean. I eat such yummy food, it's kind of hard to believe you can lose weight eating this way!
