As far as the bran... I don't personally do ANY grains. Even additional veggie carbs set off the craving monster in me (though I'm adding them in and working through it). I think its possible to add it as long as you keep your total carbs for the day in check. Its probably a YMMV type of thing so if you want to add it I would suggest starting really small (like 1/8 of a cup), keeping your total carbs in check and closely monitoring how it affects your hunger and weight loss.

Thank you for the warm reception. I agree about starting slow. The first time I did atkins 7 years ago I lost 90 lbs. Since I have moved across the country 50lbs has crept up on me. I am dedicated to counting those carbs.
FYI in case anyone is interested AllBran extra fiber only has 7 net carbs per serving |

What's a serving? I have to ask because I can stretch that word to encompass an awful lot of food!

it is for half a cup and I use 1/2 cup unsweetend soy milk at 1/2 net carb. I am so glad I found this soy milk. I miss milk so much but now it's all good. ahhhh....doing a happy dance.

Kisha - so sorry you have some problems, but so happy you are finally finding a solution to your problem. You have been such an inspiration, so dedicated, trying so many things to help yourself. That is what we all need to do. Each one of us are different and we need to remind ourselves, what works for one is not necessarily going to work for the other. We need to tweak this woe to work for us. Proud of you and good luck.

Got a slew of stuff from NDoc and started taking pills last night, mostly for pain and inflammation. Still have some pain, but I think it's not so bad as it was.
I question one item she sent - a soy-based meal replacement powder. I think I shall return that, as I am keen to avoid soy that MAY suppress thyroid function. Am I being uppity, in tossing stuff back at a NDoc? She is asking me about all sorts of stuff that are NOT part of my LC plan - cheese as protein, for example, when I think I've discovered that cheese is best used by me as a condiment. Bits and pieces. Not daily. Snacking on cheese sticks was a part of my early LC plan. No more. I told her that adding vegies and cheese had sent my weight back up, so I quit that. I am using broccoli sprouts and onions as my vegies these days, with some leeks and 'shrooms that my personal chef adds to what she cooks. So tasty! Yum! Kisha, you've inspired me to take the blood tests on my own. I'm planning on the thyroid tests the end of the month, and I'll know more about my body then.

awwww! ![]() I'm so glad you've decided to have the tests done! I'm trying not to regret waiting so long to do it. Its like you said though... its hard to accept that what should be working isn't! I know that from now on I'm going to advocate these tests whenever I hear of cases of slow loss like mine. And if it weren't for LCF I probably would have given up long before I reached the point of paying out of pocket for labs! Good luck to you - please keep us posted on your blood work! |

386.2 today, Thursday, 10/16/08...
...that's 4# less than 10/9 (390.2), one week ago... ...and 6.6# less than 10/2 (392.8), two weeks ago... ...and 8.2# GONE since 10/1 (394.4) ...stay tuned for a record-breaking October! (But only because my past record for monthly loss is disasterous!) I've finally figured how to use my scale to HELP me stay on track! Doing the math this way helps me stay focused and to avoid temptation! |

GME, I believe it is the tracking that makes a difference for me. Not waiting for month's end to tally pounds gone.
Running a total of pounds GONE seems to click, somewhere deep inside me. Keeping a report such as what I've started to report, just seems to help me stay with eating fish (sardines/tuna in olive oil, salmon with olive oil added) as my main protein. I have some seaweed that is dry and pretty old, but that gets soft and kind of plumps up when I cut the sushi wrapper with scissors to make a kind of a green noodle in a container that has tuna or salmon in olive oil and VCOil. Yep, I'm adding VCOil to most of my fish now. I like the flavor of it. Much of my personal chef stuff is now in the freezer, as I was eating too much. Too much sausage-beefy meatballs at once MAY have caused inflammation. I'm not sure of that, but I think I do not digest beef well. Maybe once in a while, but not wads at once. I may go back to having a Carl's double patty (half#) as a treat once a week. No problem. Just eating mostly fish seems to digest well and satisfies me. All that olive oil! I truly believe that knowing how many pounds are GONE will keep me from eating food that is just not good for me, as tempting as carby stuff may look. So let's see how this tracking works. I also need to get back into FitDay to see that I am pushing to get up to BMR - somehow. I think that is important. I'm so grateful to Ilpirata and others who have been patiently kind in helping me find my own path. I think this tracking will keep me focused on my goal. Yesterday's Totals
Yesterday was day 2 on the Armour Thyroid.
Yesterday morning I weighed in at 212! Yesterdays Totals: Calories 1,801 Fat 137.9 1,236 69 % Saturated 44.4 396 22 % Polyunsaturated 5.9 53 3 % Monounsaturated 34.1 305 17 % Carbohydrate 29.2 110 6 % Dietary Fiber 6.4 Protein 108.1 452 25 % Alcohol 0.0 0 0 % Which actually looks like a perfect day for me! I'm really aiming for 1800 calories and 30g of carbs so... yay me! This morning I weighed in at 209... Isn't it just WEIRD what our bodies can do with water overnight!??! Its important for me to remember that the Armour isn't going to MAKE me lose weight, its just going to make weight loss possible as long as I keep religiously sticking to my WOE... which for me is BMR eating aiming for approx 1800 cals (never less) and about 30g of carbs. |

Kisha - I read on several threads and have watched you so patiently try so much, it thrills me so, and I am so happy for you, that you probably have found an answer to this woe that some of us have to concur. So many people have to struggle to get weight off, and some it just falls off. My own mother and my daughter, never have had a weight problem in their lives and have no idea what I go through every day. My mother is 80 years old, golfs every day, does more than I do....they are both 5'5" and both weigh 120, my daughter is 23.....I often wonder, "what's wrong with me?"
What I am really writing for is to congratulate you for sticking with it as I know you will see the results you want. Zer - I am so proud of you too, for many of the same reasons....I knew you could do it as you were trying so hard to figure out what would work for you...keep going...keep posting your weights as I love to see how far you have come. I may start to do the same thing. I may not always have the time to post, but I am here reading everyday and trying to keep up with everyone the best I can. You girls are all just wonderful!!

Zer! Congratulations on getting into the 80s!
And, Kisha you must be thrilled to finally find out what was causing your stall for so long. Wishing you well with your new meds and that they help you get the scale moving again. I haven't been posting much lately - very busy. But I try to log on when I can and keep up with all that's happening with everyone. I'm inching along - haven't been tracking closely in Fitday like before, so can't guarantee I've been hitting my BMR, but pretty sure I have been close. So glad everyone is finding what is working for them.

385.2 on a predawn Saturday morn in SoCal... teetering on my talking scale!
...that's a full pound less than on 10/16(386.2) ...and 5# less than on 10/9(390.2) ...and 7.6# less than on 10/2(392.8) ...and 9.2# pounds GONE since 10/1(394.4) Thank you for your prayers, for I am SURE they are carrying me as I struggle to stay focused on my goal of lightening the load on my hinky hip - and other joints - so I can tend to daily tasks that just now are beyond me. I need help! Without the kind support from my LCFriends, I'd still weigh a quarter ton (508.7# on 9/9/04) or more. Scary thought! Might have gone higher, as MDs often did not have scales to weigh me, but that is the highest weight that is recorded in my DANDR. What I do know is that I weighed over 400# for more than half of my 64yrs, and I worked 30yrs at that weight, got hired at that weight, did all manner of diets at that weight, fell in love at that weight ... ah, yes... most of my adult life has been lived as a ginormous person. I am looking forward to seeing what life is like for a person who fits into normal size seats/clothes and who can walk without kvetching and looking for a place to sit, to rest. I can hardly wait! Pray for me, please! |

384.0 today... on the 3d or 4th try to stand still while peeking at numbers that flashed as low as 381.8 (just for a heartbeat), paused at 383.x (several times) before stabilizing and allowing the scale to register - and intone - 384#...
...that's 1.2# lower than on 10/18 (385.2) ...and 2.2# lower than on 10/16 (386.2) ...and 3.8# lower than on 10/12 (387.8) ...with 10.4# GONE since 10/1 (394.4) Thirteen days until Nov.1, until I weigh to find out how productive my LC plan has been in October. For me, this tracking seems to be productive. Thanks for your prayers as I struggle to master some LC principles and to stay focused on reducing weight on painful joints and organs. OH, MY ACHING BA-A-ACK!!! |

Thanks. Wish I could document my last age at this weight. I'm thinking it may be 20yrs since I was at this weight. As I am ripping through old documents and datebooks, I'm keeping an eye out for any recorded weights at all. Not finding a lot, as I'd go years without finding a doctor with a scale big enough for me. Most MD scales stop at 350# - and I can hardly wait until I can weigh on them! Not that I want to visit doctors, but just to know that I am beginning to fit in as a person who can weigh on a standard MD scale. Maybe I'll eventually get to fit into an average seat, a booth, any seat - and be able to sit gracefully and rise without all the angst and leveraging that now goes on. What a pain in the butt!

This weekend
I didn't track...
bad Kisha! But ate well... Can't wait to see what happens on the scale once my first two weeks on armour are up. One thing is that I can't eat breakfast when I get up as must have meds on empty stomach. I've resolved to bring my brekky to work with me and eat it as soon as I can. I've definately gotten in the breakfast habit for the first time in my life. Another bonus of the BMR way of eating! |

Are you aware that many folks take the Armour sublingually (under the tongue)? As I understand it, this method bypasses the stomach and sends the hormone directly into the bloodstream, so you don't have to worry about what's in your stomach -- breakfast and other conflicting meds included. HTH, |

Zer - what an amazing job you are doing! That scale is teasing/tempting you! What a journey!!!
Kisha - I'm anxious to see how your meds will help you too. I take mine on an empty stomach in the am, then off to work I go and have breakfast on my first break and then the rest of my supplements. Retro - thanks - I take my vitamin b-12 sublingually, and would love to take more that way. I actually think I have more energy doing everything the right way - like going directly into the blood - great point. |
