Yay...I did it...I got up and OUT...and back home safely too!

Thanks to the support from my LCFriends, I did it! I got up and OUT today to tote trash to the car (not to the dumpster, but that's the next trip!) and to pick up mail stuffed into my pobox (left all catalogs at p'office recycle bin) and to REWARD MYSELF with a monster double-patty burger (no bun, sauce, etc.) that I just wolfed down after getting safely back home. WOOF! I'm stuffed. By the time I was carving my way into the 2d bodacious patty, I was slowing down. But it's all inside me now. Hopefully it is turning into energy to do more today! Carl's $6 burger, double patty - do you think maybe that's a full pound? Urk....uh, MOO, too!

June 4 was the last time I got out the door. Thanks for your support in facing my fear - of falling down and can't get up, of looking ridiculous as I shuffle with my cane and look as if I'm going to topple over, of not finding my car when I come back to climb into it grumbling about how hard it is to get into that car. I'm a bundle of fears. Probably need to face those fears at least once a week.

Well, today is done. I'm back home. Took only an hour - 7:30-8:30 - to do. First thing when I get home is to put stuff back where it belongs, so I can find it when next I am going out. Next thing is to write up what I spent, then file papers (at least put them into the FILE THIS ASAP folder). Then I can relax.

Then I can check in and report that your support and prayers help me a lot! Your reward? Kitty pix!

Thanks. I really feel the support as I am putting one foot in front of the other and watching that I don't trip on my own big feet. That can happen! Scary!

So I focus on all the support coming my way and I watch where I put my feet - and I try to give anyone I pass a big smile, just in case they need a grin!

Kona Tiki Condo ~ June trip

Aloha! After my Big B'Day Bash on May 31 - we left for Kona on 6/6.

I returned on 6/15 w/ a nice virus that kept me pretty sick for a week.
AND eating "carby": LOTS of Ezekiel bread cinnamon toast + hot tea w/ honey.
FINALLY started feeling "human" again this weekend...

Here's to GETTING BACK ON TRACK w/ FOCUSED DAMAGE CONTROL MEASURES !!!!!
(for me, back to LC yesterday)

Brief "diet breaks" can be good for your metabolism. Btinc advised me to "shake it up" while I was "away": Alternate eating low/high calories on different days + eating at different times of day + Alternate days of high fat/low carb + low fat/high carb. I ate pretty LC (most days) but there were a LOT of "adult beverages"! And of course I did NOT track ANY of this! No time/No energy. In fact, I'm not gonna start tracking my “macros” again till July 1st. No time/No energy. (end of fiscal year at work…ugh)

Anyway, I think the “shake it up” approach is what helped me to basically eat/drink whatever/whenever I wanted, yet not gain any "real" weight over the 10 days while I was "away" (not even going to refer to it as "vacation" as we worked our ARSES off!) We're going back in November (over Thanksgiving w/ my MOM) to RELAX & ENJOY the fruits of our labor during this trip!

I came back on 6/15 at 171 lbs ~ but it was ALL lymph fluid - all 6 lbs!
Within a week, I'm back down to my profile weight of 165 lbs!
And determined to see 159 SOON !!!!!

XO,
HB

WTG, Zer! I'm going to take your approach of one bite at a time.

ps: I can't access those kitty pics and sure would love to see them. Am I missing something, is that a locked area of the board?

Don't know why the link isn't working. Here's the URL: http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/be...ty-videos.html for Jax93 "Kitty Videos" - not that my iBook will play videos, but I can see still shots!

I can't get over me, eating all that beef first thing this morning. Then I had fish for lunch. Fish fingers, not canned fish. Probably pollak or some white fish.

Wonder if I'll wake up Wed morn with a taste for a big ol' burger patty (or two) instead of my 43g of protein from WPP. Could happen. I can hardly wait.<g>

Still feel full. Yeah, at 6pm. Busy drinking all my water. Just about got that into me. Don't know for sure how to figure the double patties at Carl's. BIG! Hope eating all that stuff early in the day means it burns off. Better than eating it at night, I guess. No, I am totally NOT thinking to go get a burger now! Cannot even face eating a couple of HB eggs. Might do so later. Not hungry but suspect that I need to stoke the furnace, keep metabolism burning.

and i've only eaten 850 calories so far.
O, and I'm NOT hungry.
*sigh*
I'm planning on eating some coconut bark which is high high fat high calories... but I don't think I can down enough to get to my base minimum BMR of 1775.
*sigh*
I was RAVENOUS yesterday and today no appetite.
So mysterious.
Maybe I'll mix up some mayo and canned roast beef...
I haven't been this unhungry in awhile!

Enquiring minds want to know...

I've been tracking and averaging my calculated cals, etc., for 8 days now, and am feeling somewhat accomplished. I'm also working on the theory that an average over a few days works just as well as an absolute on every given day...for calories, that is. Carbs are not so forgiving cuz they're metabolic...

Interesting stuff, finally getting back into the real numbers. Here's hoping we all see some comfort in the direction we want to go...

No idea why Jax93's thread is not accessible. Looks as if you are past the early restrictions on time and number of posts that sometimes limits access to some threads. Maybe ask mods??? I'm certainly no whiz on navigating this site, but Jax93 has been running a cat-rescue thread and showing pix of Sophie and her kittens for quite some time now. Pix is too hefty to load as attachment; I tried.

401.8 today...at midweek peek...

401.8 is not my lowest weight for June - that was 401.0 (6/5) - or highest - that was 406.8 (6/18), just a week ago.

I'm hanging in there, wondering if bOunCing will show me 399# by end of June. Surely by 7/8, my 5th month of weighing since I gifted myself with a talking scale in Feb.2008. Surely, by then, I hope to see/hear a report saying 399#! Then I can set my goal for 390# and work toward my wishful goal of 299# by Feb.2009 - more wishful than hopeful, as clearly I am not moving fat as fast as I'd like to move it! The bOunCing must be water weight, coming and going, in flux!

I still feel a burst of pride as I weigh and collect data and write it LARGE on my food diary and BIG AND RED in my datebook. I'm collecting data on how well I am discerning what my body wants, what my body needs, what my body will tolerate as I fumble with finding my way to a successful LC/Atkins plan.

As I weighed today, two friends asked if they too might try the scales. Both did - weighing 134 and 128 and not nearly as tickled with those weights as we all might be. I live with some very trim women, women who grew up walking and working hard and who are now in USA battling the pudge that comes with a car and driving instead of walking everywhere, that and the changes that age brings to any woman as our metabolism slows down. It was nice to share the experience, as they confirmed their own data. Nice.

Went ahead and fixed my WPP hot slosh this morning, a coolish morning in SoCal, looking kind of overcast as a hot spell comes to an end. Whew! Glad to have some cooler days. Those hot days are wicked for an obese person. Not easy for slim people, but wicked like a furnace for fat folks like me!

Hope your day is a successful LC day, with more good choices than bad ones!

Did you do the roast beast and butter as well as the coconut bark? You are amazing, to pile in that many calories that late in the day. I guess I use my pumpkin seeds to take up the slack - but they do hit my carbs hard. I'm just now easing back on VCO, as it was giving me some frantic rushes to the loo. Might see if I can do more solid food, just to help me cross into 3dom. Hope so!

yep, i did one cup of roast beef with 1/2 cup of cheese and 2TBS of mayo 1/4 cup red peppers & 8 cherry tomatoes. Followed up with 3 TBS coconut oil in coconut bark. I got the co/cocoa/splenda ration just right and it was so delicious I probably could've eaten TWICE as much lol

Hi folks:

Just posting in to report that I've been lurking and gave the eating to BMR a shot this past month. I had to increase my average caloric intake by 50% to get there (yikes!) and was pretty terrified of gaining. My one month results are that tho I initially immediately dropped something like 3 pounds in the first week, I ultimately have come out even, with no loss or gain.

Although I am a bit disappointed to discover that eating to BMR was not the magic weightloss solution for me, it has taught me that I don't have to eat as very little as I thought to at least maintain, which believe me is a lovely thing to know! Still, where does that leave me, I'm left wondering? Severe caloric/carb restriction didn't help me lose, nor did eating more (still with induction level carbs). Nothing left to try but a thyroid test, I guess!

OR, OR MIX IT UP!!!! If you lost initially eating BMR but then stopped losing, maybe something like a higher cal week then a lower cal week a higher carb week then a lower carb week. I think its called cycling and I know there are threads on it.

Thanks for your feedback and DO HANG IN THERE! I'm glad we've all learned at least how much food we'll be able to enjoy eating when we get to maintenance.

Actually, that's what I'm going to try to do this week -- cycle high vs low cal days within the week, still keeping carbs at induction level. I'll try that for a bit and see how it goes, then try fluxing (is that a word?!) the carbs as a last resort/experiment before completely throwing my hands up in the air. (Is there a "Pull-Ones-Hair-Out" emoticon? )

yes! eat at the low end of your calorie range for a day or 2, then switch to the high end for a few days - then back to the middle, shake it up!

if you do a high carb day, make sure it's low fat/high carb and be sure to work-out hard that day!

there are formula's for this that you can find on the keto thread.

xo,
hb

Thanks, HB. I do think I strolled thru the keto thread at some point -- seemed pretty darned complicated, actually, and I'm hoping my loose version of it will shake things up enough so that I don't have to get to that point, but if I have to, I will. I'm pretty compulsive about this stuff already: I've logged my food with FitDay virtually every day for 3 years, plan my meals in advance depending what eating program I am on, log my daily weight, etc. You'd think with all this data I'd be able to come up with a long-term solution, but noooooo, my body defies me!

Just stick with it! I know how frustrating it is butno matter what you have to keep trying. As long as you don't give up you will DEFINATELY ultimately weigh less. If you quit you will definately ultimately weigh more. For some of us it is just so much more complicated than *doing atkins* we have to tweak and experiment but most of all PERSEVERE! Please keep us posted on how you're doing & hang in there!

(Is there a "Pull-Ones-Hair-Out" emoticon? )

Hey, missy! If there was an emoticon for that, I'd have found it ages ago! I do want to say that sometimes it actually takes more than a month to heal a metabolism, and also that (going from the LC Project from 2001 -- see, I've been working it for longer and with even more frustration if that's possible, so I hear your pain ), dairy is waaay often a culprit...I faintly remember, back in the pre-menopausal days when I first lost 56 pounds on this approach in a year and a half, 10 years ago now, there were at least 3 2-3 month "stalls" in there, believe it or not.

I'm on track in my 2008 version of my LC Project for all of my 9th day now, and what I'm doing is using a range, with BMR at the low end (accommodating my probably lowered metabolism a little bit) and halfway to the HB point at the high end. Works out to 1726 and 2050 -- I don't go to the high end of the range simply on the theory that my older now post-menopausal system just isn't using that amount of energy. And definitely let the cals move around a little within the range so your bod doesn't get into a set pattern.

Hey, it only really needs recalculation once a month or so or if the numbers change (go down!) -- whichever comes first. It's not as complicated or intimidating as it might seem... I do know that, for me, I was avoiding this amount of "work" for a very long time, to the point I've reached my highest weight ever and am hiding in the bathroom! My choice, go on like this, or buckle down and do some work for a while. In some way, it can get no worse, and in another way, it's actually getting to be easier because I've got something I can get a handle on, can control, that being this self-imposed program.

Not a lot of anything so far for me, but I'm going to stick it out and not change anything in terms of the approach for at least 3 months; I've promised myself that so that I can really see if there's something needs changing. Scientific method-wise, you've got to change one thing at a time to truly see results, AND you need a big enough or long enough time to work it.

So, I don't know if all this is any help to you, but it sure makes me feel better to articulate it...Hugs, Retro!

Hi everyone,
I'm back from holidays! Had a great time. Only up 1 kilo/2.2 pounds - which is great considering I had a difficult time sticking to my 20-30 carb per day. Sometimes there just weren't good options to choose from. Plus, wine consumption was increased! You can't sit on the veranda of a villa and watch the sun set over the south pacific without a bottle of wine, can you?

Am back eating to my BMR range of 1700-2200, with carbs below 25 net. No wine. No nuts. Eating small meals every 3-4 hours. Am also ramping up my exercise and giving myself a little 9 week challenge to remove 10 kilos/22 pounds. It's going to be a real stretch for me - given this plateau I find myself on - but I'm going to throw everything I've got at it in hopes of busting through it. If I don't at least I'll know I've given it everything I've got. I BELIEVE!

Bacon-kraut balls? Oh, yeah!!!

Don't miss this thread about Bacon-Kraut balls! Sure looks like a tasty way to celebrate the 4th of July! Okay, I'm totally a fan of kraut - with or without hotdogs. Just remember the caraway seeds that plump up so good in kraut! Oh, I do like caraway seeds!
