Aloha everyone! Sorry I've been AWOL. My life since mid-May has been fast & furious!

Had friends in town for my 45th b'day; then we went to Hawaii; now I'm home and trying to catch-up on life but super sick w/ upper respiratory & viral infection that is ransacking my body from head to tow...ugh.

I've been eating MOSTLY on track ~ (even went to the HF store in Kona and got EVCO & PP, etc) ~ but I haven't had the time/energy to track anything.

My weight shot up from 166 to 171 (due to my lymphedema) but now I'm back down to 166 and my bodyfat is down to 22% - woot woot! It was 30% when I started all of this in March. So even tho I haven't seen much scale movement, I feel certain there's some good body re-comp occurring! Besides, we all know that the evil scale LIES, right??

Anyway, I just wanted to say to everyone ~
and let ya know that I will be fully back on track (and tracking my macros) SOON!

Meanwhile, just wanted to be sure you saw this!

Question for you. I had a cheat day or 2 last week. So I'm back to induction for a while. Would you eat to BMR during induction? I was trying to do this before I jumped off the wagon, so I wasn't sure I could continue.
Thanks!

Yup! I would. I wouldn't worry too much about going over your limit, though, as induction is more about getting your body reset again. You can do it!

Did we all start off life with functional metabolisms?

I suspect we were born with metabolisms that worked well - and we screwed up by using food as a drug, a mood-altering, life-saving drug. I know I did. What I did with food helped me survive a bleak life as a toddler and youngster and as a young adult with no coping skills. My addiction to food kept me safe from a lot of other addictions that disrupt a person's life.

Now, at 64, I am ready to develop better coping skills.

Thanks to the LCFriend who led me to write up the above admission that what I lament today as a ghastly flaw in my character or personality turns out to be nothing more than an early coping skill that once saved my life but is no longer necessary. I've outgrown it. Time to let go.

...I still feel hungry after I reach my BMR... with the HB equation, [a higher calorie count is] still good, but mentally I'm thinking it's way too high. So hard to break that old habit huh? I find it so strange how I cycle with doing SO well on this woe and then just one day, BAM, i'm craving everything, having little cheats... and questioning everything. Ugh...why wasn't I born with a fab metabolism?!?!
What I truly suspect is that we are all born with a metabolism that functions well. I think we are struggling to get back to the original functional metabolism that I (for one) messed up in my confusion as I flailed around for a life preserver in a chaotic world. Food was handy.

Thanks to those who share their struggles and their victories here. It all helps those of us who are trudging the same path, making the same journey.

for sure. Definately, CARBS first, then BMR second - just to the point of making sure you don't eat below it no matter what.

i'm still here.
I've been sporadic on my tracking, but NOT my eating, lol. Positive I've eaten to BMR since Monday. Still up to 214 on the scale this morning - which is still down 4-5 pounds from my stall weight. sticking with it, hanging in there...

Carbs first, on a LC plan...then push to eat up to BMR!!!

I'm a believer, ilpirata, and am working on cutting carbs where I can, as I contemplate my limited repertoire of handy LC food. I'm eating my HB eggs plain now, saving my mayo for the fish dishes. Eggs I can eat straight up, plain with a dash of salt or Mrs.Dash. Eggs are pure gold, sitting in my fridge, ready to snarfle and relish as a delicacy. I read a book in which a single egg is split among several hungry people. Can you imagine? So I think of that as I snarfle a HB egg in several bites, trying to imagine sharing an egg among several folks whose budget is even tighter than mine. The book? Angela's Ashes. Sad story.

I'm not sure how many eggs a day my body will tolerate. I've done as many as four a day, spreading them out as mini-meals over a stretch of hours as an accompaniment to a fishy-mayo salad or just an egg all by its incredible edible self. I keep shells on my refrigerated HB eggs. Gosh, I want one now. Bye!

402.2 today...(not the 462# that I feared might show up!)

Not a lot to say today...or lately...but I'm reading/lurking and appreciate the posts from those who are struggling and who are celebrating. Both help me!

Got on the scale today, fully expecting to see 60# since last week's weigh-in.

Hot weather weighs me down, makes me feel like a beached whale. I'm still bOunCing just above 400# as if I am afraid to allow myself to slip into 3-dom. Hot weather adds to the burden of eating. All my tummy wants is easy cold stuff, like ice cream and sherbet and icy cold milk. Clearly NOT on my LC plan. I'm hoping that a chilled HB egg will do. Might be the summer of chilled HB eggs as a substitute for all sorts of carby cold things. Icy eggs? Yuppers! That's my plan. Just got to get myself into the kitchen, to boil up some eggs (if there are eggs in the fridge). Bare minimum. Survival mode.

Still a believer that the key to losing is eating to my BMR:2423cals, no matter what! - just barely able to navigate and having trouble creating LC food as I know I must do. Working on staying hydrated, mostly. HOT!!!

I know it's more work, but when I'm feeling weighed down, cold devilled eggs really make me feel better, and definitely legal. Willing to use some of your mayo on those?

Guess I'm getting serious about having HB eggs handy for my LC snacks. Just came back from the kitchen where I went at 3am to cook up a pan of eggs so I shall have some on hand. Most went into the fridge for a cool snack Sunday. Two came back to the room with me for a hot HB egg starter, before I even do my 40g protein WPP. This is a radical change for me. I think it indicates a new approach to LC planning for me.

What I notice is that I stack too many tasks up, then I drag my feet about how to start a list of tasks that is daunting. Today I shall do one task at a time. It allows me to JUST DO IT, without having to plan to carry laundry and all the fixings for a day's food that I like to fix while waiting for the wash to wash/dry.

Efficient? Sure, doing a list of tasks saves time. But not if the list itself keeps me from starting. Same is true for leaving home to tote trash, pick up mail, grab some food and get back home. Sometimes it's all just too much to face.

So, for a while, I'll do one task at a time.
Less efficient. That's true. Sigh.

Perhaps moving more often, leaving home more often, will benefit me in burning some calories and allowing more sunshine to soak into me as I go back and forth. Less efficient. Burns more gas. Burns more calories too!

Sunday was a better day for me, as I managed to fix and eat 15oz of salmon, with chopt onion and mayo and a few HB eggs on the side. Tasty. Good. I ate it all over a 4hr period, making many small meals out of it. Feel good about my food, my pace of eating. Enjoyed what I ate. Drank all my water too.

Hope to be productive Monday, get a few errands done, eat my LC menu and accomplish some of the things piling up on my TO DO list before it gets too hot.

Wish me luck! Oh, it's already Monday here in SoCal. Got to get some zzz.

Terrible weekend for me.
Didn't track a single bite.
Way underate on Friday (out of the house no food options)
WAY underate on Saturday (same sad excuse)
Sunday we had a BBQ and I ate tons of food. No corn or potato salad, but FOUR BEEF RIBS WITH BARBEQUE Sauce. Then Ihad some peanut butter. Then a bunch of pine nuts (?) then some fage with heavy cream splenda and blueberries. Long story short more carbs than I'm used to. Guess what? still up at 214 this morning. SIGH.
I need to get back with the program!

Sounds as if your poker Fridays are always going to be a challenge, as you play all night and are tempted to skip eating or to eat what's at hand. Thus a wknd begins and kind of steamrolls. But you sound as if you rein it all in on Monday. Perhaps this will work for you, as a metabolic adjustment of sorts. Hope so!

I think I've already missed my window of opportunity for me to get up and OUT before the day gets scathing hot. It's almost 9am and I've just chugged my hot slosh with 40g Protein in WPP. Thinking what I have on hand - 3HB eggs in fridge, all cool and waiting for a midday snack! - and what I might locate if I waddle out to the car and get to Carl's for a double-patty cheeseburger (no bun or goopy sauces) for a beefy bite while hauling trash and picking up mail at p'office (still trying to do too many tasks at once, a daunting list for a person who dreads falling down and not being able to rise without calling 911). Also need to wash clothes, sheets, me. This sweltering weather calls for lots more washing! Agh!

Wondering if weighing will be a positive or a negative. Not sure. Might hold off until Wed's midweek peek. Yeah.....

Its even worse when its Poker Friday AND Saturday!
I just need to eat before I go. I don't eat whats on hand but just don't eat...
I need to eat more earlier on Fridays so I'm at BMR before I leave the house for the card game. And I need to do the same on Saturday and TRACK IT DARNIT!

Ok, I've finally bit the bullet, cranked up my foodlogging and LC Project (originally based on BMR calcs) spreadsheet, from 2001! Oh my.

I've been tracking and watching for a week as of tomorrow. Can't say there's been progress, but hey, I'm no longer kidding myself as I have been doing since quitting smoking in the end of 2000, slacking on the LC, surviving an accelerated menopause (all done and over from start to finish in one year, I blame a cauterization where a ligation was signed for and should have sued, but don't even ask...). All my whinging ever since makes no difference, this is where it's at. I may soon be brave enough to post my stats. Maybe.

I do consider it a victory that I've been tracking and watching for a week as of tomorrow, and really knowing what it is I put into myself. And it hasn't been pretty, but I'm mending my ways. Now.

My BMR calc? 1726. Throw in HB? 2053. For me, at my age and frame, I'm going with an optimal min/max of 1726/2050 per day, and see how that goes for a month. If it works, I'll recalc monthly. I'm also examining all my assumptions and getting back in touch with LC thinking, mostly via here (of course), ALC too, and Dr. Mike's blog (darn if I wouldn't want to steal that man if he wasn't already thoroughly married to the amazing Dr. Mary-Dan!).

There. As much as I can say today, and thanks to you brave souls already here and working it.

Feel as if today will be a productive day. Some days I want the satisfaction of doing what needs to get done more than I fear falling down or looking absurd.

Funny how strong that motivation to accomplish something can be. Love it!

When I find myself being carried along by a determined spirit, I realize that my body and my pain is a lot less of me than is the spirit that carries me when I am on track and full of the intention to make today a great LC day.

Have a g'day! Make it a powerful LC day! Doing it myself, one step at a time, one bite at a time. That's how my LC plan works - one bite at a time!
