Hi ladies, back from Memphis.
I loved Memphis. So old, so much history. You could see the bridge connecting Tennessee to Arkansas over the Mississippi River from our hotel room. GORGEOUS at night when it was all lit up. We had lunch one day in a seedy area on the other side of our hotel (Beale street was on the opposite side about a mile away) and had homemade tamales. Again, great! It was a great little hole-in-the-wall restaurant. There was a roach on the floor and some guys at the next table killed it. One of them said something like "sorry you had to see that" and we said "we're from Florida, we have roaches the size of your head down there, we're fine". The boys were mightily impressed. We spent Tuesday evening/night on Beale street. Amazing! We had snacks and a Hurricane at Pat O'Brien's (yes, same as the one in New Orleans, looks EXACTLY like the "real" one) then had a fantastic BBQ dinner at another hole-in-the-wall place named The Pig. We were at that place. The beer "menu" had something called Pig Brew listed and we asked the waitress what the might entail. She said "oh, we don't sell that anymore" pause "it was just Bud Light, anyway". We could have hung around the streets all night. Every block or so there was a courtyard with another great blues or old-time rock & roll band playing. It was a little seedy overall for my taste (it reminded me SO much of the French Quarter in New Orleans) but it was great fun for a little entertainment on a work trip. ![]() Drew, I'm sorry there is so much pressing down on your right now. Anyone of those things alone would be enough to lay anyone low. Please think positively. I know it sounds trite but I believe that it truly does draw positive energy to yourself when you have positive energy INSIDE yourself. Lisa, do you have Memorial Day off? If so that's two long weekends in a row for you! That would be a record. Our office closes early tomorrow but I have a 2:00 meeting I have to stay for, but after that I'm off all of next week (vacation). Not doing anything, just hanging around the house and getting some much needed reading, napping and possibly some cleaning/organization if I feel up to it. ![]() Marcelle, great news on the interview! I wish they would tell you sooner than next week. Call them back and tell them your friends can't wait that long. Bridget, that is HILAROUS about Jeri and the surgeon! Classic! I bet those guys get that reaction all the time. "You're a surgeon, riiiiight. Oh, yeah? Really? Your twin brother is ALSO a surgeon? Okay, buh bye now." ![]()

Welcome Home Susan! Glad you had a nice time. I haven't been to Memphis, but want to go. Yep, off Monday!
Drew I wish I knew what to say, but just know I'm praying for you.Our jobs here aren't too secure either. And even though I know more than just about anyone in my dept, I'm the low man on the totem pole. Guess who'll get the shaft first? I'm feeling it today for some reason. I just feel like I'm under a microscope. Sigh. |

We have a rainy Friday. Wish I was home.
I came in to work since between last week, this week and next week I will only have been in the office four days out of 15 if I didn't come in today (which makes it five out of fifteen ). I forgot to tell you girls about one of our flight attendants on our flight from Memphis to Atlanta. He was a very slight Cuban or Puerto Rican guy, probably just barely 25. Really cute and sweet. We were in row 7 so we could see him well from our seats. When he holding the microphone in his left hand to read the instructions you could see that he was wearing some kind of stone ring on a thin gold band on his "ring" finger. I was intrigued! So when he passed by doing beverage service I made a point to look at his hand and sure enough, it was an engagement ring! Like this: You have got to love a man who is secure enough to wear that in public! Lisa, you do good work and give them more than they deserve. Just keep being you and doing what you are doing and you will be fine. If they are going to cut, they are going to cut and there isn't anything you can do about it, but you can be sure it won't be beause of your performance. ![]() |

Susan – Sounds like fun in Memphis!! I LOL at Pig Brew = Bud Light!!!
Bud Light is all new bf drinks. I have had more than my share of Bud Light lately!! Hope you have a great week off!! I am SOOOO looking forward to the long weekend!! I am GOING TO GET SOME SUN DANGIT!! ![]() Lisa – ((HUGS)) on the job. We can hang in here!! I hear ya about that pole . . . I am the last hired at over 7 years here! Next above me is 17 years! Then like 37 years!! Not too much turnover here. LOL I am so excited to have a long weekend. I haven’t spent much of any time with my family lately. My oldest sister left for DW this morning with her hubby and kids. They are taking the new camper down there and are staying for 10 days. My sister was so aggravated because they bought an 08 camper and something broke on it. They didn’t even have a part number for it yet! I guess they have to push out the extension by hand on this vacation. Literally NOT a happy camper!! LOL I hope everyone has an awesome weekend!!! ![]() Last edited by Drew : 05-23-2008 at 07:58 AM. |

Drew, I literally laughed out loud at the "happy camper" comment. LOL
I'm excited to have a long weekend, too. We're going to dump some of my uncle's things this weekend. We're going to finish painting the library this weekend. We're going to clean the den/kitchen this weekend. I'm going to make a Barbie cake this weekend. Then we're going to rest on Monday. And probably take the dogs to the park. Have a great weekend everyone! |

I know, Drew. We were dying laughing at the off-handed way the waitress said "it was just Bud Light, anyway". She was very young and had no idea how funny that sounded to us.
SO many funny things happened while we were there. That, the man wearing a woman's engagement ring, OH! and the flight attendant on the way TO Memphis had us in hysterics! On our flight out of Tallahassee early Monday morning our flight attendant was British with a strong accent. She was also a sour puss. She looked like a stubby toad and had a scowl on her face the whole flight. (this was the crew that was mad because they couldn't get the flight delayed, don't know if I told you about that) When I first saw her coming down the aisle I told Amanda that I didn't think she liked her job very much. So she walked up to the row behind us, which was the exit row, and asked the passengers, in her strong British accent, if they were aware that they were sitting in an exit row. One guy said "I planned it that way" and she VERY SNOTTILY said "Sir.ARE.YOU.AWARE.that.you.are.sitting.in.an.exit .row?!" Everyone just stared at her dumbfounded that she would be so rude. Then she said it just like that AGAIN! Amanda and I were DYING! So then she got REALLY ridiculous and stared each passenger right in the face and said "Are you AWARE that you are sitting in an exit row?!" LMAO! Each passenger said "yes" and she stalked off. Then as we approached the airport to land she came over the loudspeaker and started rattling off statistics about Atlanta and said "the Atlanta airport is a very LARGE airport" OMG! Okay, b*tch, we know the Tallahassee airport is a very SMALL airport but we HAVE been to the big city before! Amanda and I couldn't breath for laughing. And Amanda is a perfect mimic and she was adding things to that statement in a perfect Brittish accent "Ladies and Gentlemen and hillbillies and bumpkins, the Atlanta airport is a very LARGE airport, please take care to not get lost because you know you will" ![]() Lisa, is your uncle going to come get the stuff or are you storing it? |

Susan, I so wish I had been on that flight with you!
![]() My uncle sent his daughter to get the stuff. She thought it mostly to be junk (which most of it is). I told her if she'd push to the side what she didn't want to move, we'd toss it. It gets it out of my way sooner. I don't mind a bit. Anything left after the 31st is up for grabs. Either to the highest (or lowest) yardsale person or to the dump. LOL |

I know, I couldn't BELIEVE that woman was speaking to customers like that! The guy was joking and even laughed when he said he planned it that way. The crew of that flight was really miffed because there was a little fog on the runway (and I do mean a LITTLE, there was a strip above the runway that didn't even reach the (average-sized) tree-tops. They walked through the jetway door telling the ladies at the boarding counter that they would have to just check and see if they could take off in that fog.
One of the women at the counter immediately called the tower and warned them that the pilot was probably try to delay and that from her vantage point there was no reason for it. And we took off on time so I'm guessing they were ticked. Then the pilot SHOT STRAIGHT UP, so badly that Amanda and I felt like we were pinned to our seats with a ton of bricks weighing down our shoulders. Jerk! He wasn't a good pilot overall but I think he did that on purpose. I'm reporting the whole thing to Delta. Only 15 more minutes, Drew. |

Sounds like some fun was had then, Drew.
We didn't go anywhere or celebrate big. Saturday we messed around town, shopped, ate out, the usual. Sunday I watched movies and yesterday I read almost all day (trying to finish Baba Wawa's memoir...it's pretty good but long). Today I MUST straighten and dust around the TV in my bedroom...cable guy is coming to hook up a cable box for that TV. |

Susan – Man I wish I had this week off!!! Did I ever tell you I actually went out with one of the cable guys who hooked mine up? LOL
![]() Let’s see . . . ![]() I did a pretty good job at doing NO WORK this weekend. Although I DID end up working on bf’s boss’s computer after work Friday. (even got paid) BTW the only reason I had a clue was because it was an electric mower! Normally motors are foreign to me! Anyway . . . ![]() Yesterday BF Harley and I were standing under the carport at my house while it rained. The power was off so we were just standing there drinking a beer while he smoked. (He doesn’t smoke in my house.) He looked towards the road and said . . . “Well I guess I don’t feel too bad for that guy . . . at least he has an umbrella.” I looked up to see who he was talking about and I about fell over laughing . . . it was MY DAD!! He walked up my driveway and stopped to chat with us on his way through. LOL!!! Neither of my parents had met him yet. Dad did a polite quick chat and left. (I told my sister the other day that I really don’t care what my family thinks of him. I don’t know if it’s because I don’t think they will like him or I really just don’t care. Maybe I like him enough where they can’t change my mind . . . not sure.) ![]() Ohhh I got stuck in the mud/muck/water/leaves!! Harley, Jimmy and I went to the ‘creek’ Sunday. (More like a river to me LOL) They ended up literally pulling me out by my arms because I couldn’t move!! It was up to my chest!!! We had been in the river and Harley tried to help me walk down river because it was too steep to get out where we were. (He was so sweet he never let go of my hand while he lead me thru.) All of a sudden I took one step and it went from thigh high to just under my chest deep!! That is when I realized I was stuck!! They both had to pull on my arms to get me out!! When I finally made it out I was COVERED in dirt/water/leaves/black GUNK!!! EWWWW!!! We were an hour from home too!! (The terrible part was I HAD A SWIMMING SUIT WITH!!) Ohhh but no I didn’t mean to get wet! It was SOOOO NASTY!!! They kept telling me . . . we will find a better place in the river for you to wash off. YEAH RIGHT!! About 20 minutes later I said . . . I’m not going to get to wash off am I?? Well by that time it was getting dark so they agreed no it wasn’t a good idea to let me go back in. LOL (Especially with the buzz I had!! LOL) So there we are rolling down the interstate and I CHANGED all my clothes and put my swim suit on!! LOL ![]() Well this has turned out to be a book so I guess I will stop. Harley goes to court tomorrow. I am NERVOUS. Icky. ![]() |

Drew,
I am traumatized just reading that stuck-in-the-mud story. I hope things go well for Harley tomorrow. ![]() Marcelle, my co-worker (the mimic) is absolutely HILARIOUS!!! Since that flight she's started saying "Are you AWARE..." in that British accent at the beginning of sentences and we both crack up. There was also an incident with two people at the conference that made us crack up later (it was kind of shocking at the time, though). These two people from Miami (they were co-workers) were sitting at opposite ends of our "Florida" table, though I had never met them before the conference. The older woman's name was Saundra, and you could tell from her accent she was originally from an island nation (Jamaica, Haiti, etc.). Her younger male co-worker (who was HOT BTW) was Hispanic. So we had gotten to know each other as much as you can get to know strangers at a conference in two days so we were sitting at the table and this African American guy from Jacksonville calls down the table to Saundra but she didn't hear him. So he says "mire" which is Spanish for "look" or "listen", can't remember exactly but he was trying to get her attention, and the Hispanic guy said "why did you say that to her?" the Jax guy said "I'm trying to get her attention" and the Hispanic guy got WILD and started almost yelling "she doesn't speak Spanish!!! She's from Tahita!!! She speaks English!!!" The Jax guy was like "sorry dude, she said 'no problemo' earlier today so I thought she could speak Spanish" OMG, the Hispanic guy YELLED down the table to the woman "SAUNDRA!!! Did you know you now speak fluent Spanish because you said 'no problemo' earlier today?!" Ummmm, over-reaction much, dude? We were all staring with our mouths hanging open. But it was funny and we were in a meeting last Friday and someone was completely confused and Amanda (my funny co-worker) leaned over to me and whispered "she's from Tahiti". ![]() That was one of the shortest business trips I've ever been on and probably one of the funniest. ![]() |

Drew, what a day!! I'd have been skeered!! Good luck to Harley today.
Marcelle, good to see you posting! How's Greg? How's the job? Susan, you crack me up!! I don't think I could work with your co-worker, we'd never get ANYTHING done! LOL My weekend didn't go anything like I planned. Saturday, we thought it was going to rain, so we didn't want to paint. So we were going to Lowe's to buy something to hopefully help us keep the dogs in their kennel. (a 6 ft tall kennel that one of them can JUMP OVER!) On the way, Tim's Mom called. Their dog died. He was attacked by a neighbor's pitbull. So we went to their house to help his Dad till the hard ground so he could dig a grave. Their ground was so hard (think Georgia clay) that we couldn't get it tilled enough. So, Tim and his Dad put Rio into the back of the truck and we brought him to our house to bury in the garden. (Our soil is much softer because Granny used to till it every year for a garden) He was such a good dog. They are really going to miss him. Now we're worried even more about them being out just a couple miles from the interstate without a dog to warn them of people in the yard. Sunday was a kind of lazy day. Monday we started to finally finish painting the library. (Remember back in October, I think, we started painting it? We just had one corner left and never made time to do it) Then Jonathan called. He found a car and wanted Tim's opinion on it before he bought it. And he wanted me there to help negotiate the price. And, of course, he's young with no credit and needed a co-signer. So, *we* bought a 2004 40th Anniversary Mustang. White with black racing stripes. It's a nice car. He got a good deal. Oh, and I forgot to mention, I have the snotty, clogged sinuses again. This time my eyes run and matt together at night. Fun stuff. ![]()

Waiting on the cable man.
Drew, I married the cable man. ![]() Lisa, sweet ride for Jonathan!!! I bet he is on Cloud 9. It's nice that he has you and Tim to help out. By the time he gets through paying for the car he will have built up a good credit rating. Sorry you're sick. My eyes used to do that when I had allergy so bad when I was younger. It really hurts. |

Well he went to court today and this time the officer didn’t show up. If the officer doesn’t show up next time it will be dropped. If he DOES show up then I think it will go to trial or he will be sentenced. Not sure.
It’s put off for another 2 weeks. ![]() Hope everyone is having a nice day!! ![]() |
