Ahhhh Lucy!...

I'm snuggled up in my bathrobe and a quilt in my favorite recliner with my first warm mug of hazelnut coffee beside me. The mantle clock just timed 6:00 and the rooster is quite gabby this morning. lol

So, lots going on around here.

There was a lot of inapropriate talk at school by a couple staff (who have repeatedly done this) in front of a high needs student and engaging in the conversation with a couple high schol students.

The talk was of weed and cigarettes - about the SO of one wanting to smoke week at home growing up, in his room, though is parents wouldn't let him, so *laughlaughlaugh* he wanted (or she said he did, I can't remember) to move out... Follwed by another staff member talking about her son smoking cigareetes in his bedroom when he lived at home and laughlaughlaugh isnt it so funny the smell would waif out his bedroom window and come into the kitchek window.

I'm sorry though that is HIGHLY unethical, uprofessional and inappropraite talk to be having in from of kids with special needs and engaging in this kind of conversation with high schoolers and laughing about it all the way they were.

So, I talked to my boss, and also documented the incident, giving a copy to the superintendent and talking to him personally.

I told him that, surely, weed and cigarettes is not the intended knowledge that the district of ******* wishes to impart on their students.

Like I said this isn't their first inappropriate talk - the other very vulgar.

So, apparently the admins talked to the staff and I could tell without even being told that by the admimns bc they are being absolutely nasty to me. (Ie making a handicapped kid get up from the table to answer the door forme, bc neither of them will get off their rears to do it for me - another example, not even looking at me, talking rudely etc.)

I asked my boss if they were talked to and told - she said yes. I said I ask merely out of curiousity - not because I care if they like me. I'm not here to be liked by them. My loyalty lies with the kids tha I serve and I will ALWAYS consider them and the words/actions used towards them and protect them as if they were my own children.

And as for being liked, if I cared so much about being liked by everyone I wouldn't be going into teaching, because you sure can't please everyone there!..

At first I had asked not to be identified in this situation bc I am sure they will make my life Hell (they have in the past with lies and rumors).

Though you know what? Let them talk.

I am stronger then that.

I will protect and serve my kids - they will always have my loyalty - no matter what.

If you are going to say something, I suggest you consider if it is somethiing you would say in front of these student's parents, their teacher, the principal, the superintendent or a visiting community member.

If not, keep your mouth shut.

If you say your here for the kids, then SHOW it - or leave.

The reason this kind of talk infuriates me the most, is because of our nonverbal students. They don't need to hear this anymore then anyone else. DOn't assume that they don't know what's going on bc they cant communicate it. They have a voice and deserve dignity and respect - and that includes using appropriate talk. I WILL be their voice every time... I don't care if its not liked - If you don't like it, don't talk it. I WILL hold you accountable. My kids deserve that.

Good Morning...

Every day is trash day for us. We have to take ours to the dump. We don't have trash service, but hey it's free. We only go once a week or two, and it is about 1 mile down the road, so no biggie...

Exactly, Sharon. As I brought up last Sunday, our Pastor's sermon was on this. Not everyone is going to like us, and we are fooling ourself, if we think so. People clash, and all we need to do is please God... If we please him, then we have it made in the shade, and that is all that's important. I am learning this as I go through life, and trying to make my skin a little thicker...

first of all, Suna: you are right. that is completely out of line and that kind of conversation should NOT happen in front of ANY students period.

I'm sipping a cup of coffee here too. got up before my alarm to take butter out. I decided to try and get the other cookies baked this morning if possible.

this is the LAST GOT for the season. our 5K is saturday and then our party next thurs! I'm ready to be done but I am pretty sure we are doing it again next year. hopefully as we continue to do it interest will build and we'll get more help from the staff.
