I was just doing the same thing .

Here's what Tooter said at the start of the first Old Timers and Newbies Thread:
Quote:
I'm starting this thread so that "Old timers" and Newbies (who want to) can have a thread to support each other and "Catch up" with each other's lives.

It's a thread to share what we are doing, what we have learned and what's going on in our lives. All are welcome.
Part 1
Part 2

You mean that several hundred pages later, we're still doing what we started out to do . It must have been a very good spec .

I just remembered another good article from Barry Groves's site: the extract from Three Men in a Boat.

I think that's the diet I'm going to follow:
Quote:
I read the prescription. It ran:

"1 lb. beefsteak, with
1 pt. bitter beer every 6 hours.
1 ten-mile walk every morning.
1 bed at 11 sharp every night.
And don't stuff up your head with things you don't understand."

I followed the directions, with the happy result — speaking for myself — that my life was preserved, and is still going on.
I wonder if it would be all right to have a glass of wine instead of the beer? Hmm, and maybe ten miles is a bit much...

And, it's now one minute past eleven, so I'd better get to bed.

See you in the morning .

I want to send you a PM of an article. I don't want to post in in Public.

It's about My Friend and her son that died.

I'm going out for a yoga lesson, so I'll see you all later. I have an individual lesson every so often - it's been about once a month recently because of my lower back problems. Normally I have one every couple of months. I talk to my teacher about how I am and what I'm interested on working on, and we come up with a practice for me to use at home. I have done a lot of training, so I do have the skills to design the practice myself, but when it comes to your own stuff, it's easy to get misled, and having someone else's perspective is very helpful.

Soooooo, Ailuros. You were an Engineer!!!! That explains it!!!! That's why you love numbers and graphing.

My oldest was excepted to Purdue's School of Engineering. He wants to go into computer/electrical engineering. Hopefully, he can stay focused and get it done, as it is quite an intensive program.

I thought of something that you'd like....and it would be a gauranteed hit!!!!

You, liking cookbooks the way that you do, could make your own. You could make regional cookbooks....complete with pictures of the scenery of the area, and..........of course.......food porn by the recipes!!!!

I know that they would be a success!!!!

The scenery pictures would add flavor to the recipes...and set the mood for the book.

I have three washers going. I have to put the loads into the dryers, and then, run some quick errands. So, I will be back later. Just wanted to stop in and say, "Hi"!!! I am TRYING to make it a point to ATLEAST check in daily.

At one time I did have the idea of taking photographs of things I cooked, to keep in my recipe database, but I kept forgetting, and just eating the food . Once I've cooked something, I don't really feel like spending ages getting the perfect photo while it goes cold.

It was a beautiful article. I did see one typo. They said he joined the National Guard in 2007. They ment, he joined the Border Patrol.

I loved the pictures they had with it.

He was just a very Good person with a Very Good Heart.

I cried when I read "Well done, my son".

We just got a phone call today. One of our friends and my husband's golfing partner died last night.

These things sure seem to come in cycles, don't they!?!?

That's why you make an extra plate...with all of the garnishes...so that you can take a picture when your done eating. And the extra setting? Lunch for the next day.

I've been reading the Schwarzbein book (the 2nd one) again today. I have a lot of the symptoms of burnt out adrenals, and I think that the approach to menopause is a common time to experience problems, as the adrenals have an increased workload taking over as hormone production from the ovaries dwindles. She recommends about 20g carb at each meal or snack, and that you should eat five times a day, with a balance of protein, carbs and fats each time. According to her, I need about 60g protein per day, or around 9 oz meat (or equivalent from cheese, eggs etc). So that works out at 2 oz five times a day (it's pretty much the same as Protein Power says). I'd really like to give her ideas a try, to see if I can get better energy, but I just don't think I can manage to eat five times! Maybe I'll start out by making my three meals fit in with her advice, and adding an extra on the days when there's a larger than usual gap. The main change is that I'll be making a conscious effort to keep my carbs at a particular level instead of just keeping below. Her argument is that if you don't eat carbs, your body releases cortisol and adrenalin to stimulate the production of glucose from protein - which is not a good thing if your adrenal glands are already struggling.

She also emphasises getting enough rest and sleep, which I already do; and exercising enough but not too much. Some stretching, and resistance, but no cardio until your adrenals are working properly. I don't like cardio anyway, so that's no problem . But I do need to be more conscientious about doing the rest of it regularly.
