Morning gals:
It seems so strange not to be getting up for work in the morning. I kind of like it, wish I didnt have "looking for work" hanging over my head. I could get used to this stay-at-home mom thing. I have an interview scheduled tomorrow with one of those job agencies. Bleh! Irelyn is walking!!! Wow, Tooter, awesome! She really looks up to you! |

Tooter, that sounds like a lovely weekend. It doesn't seem any time since she was a tiny baby, though. She'll be a teenager before you know it
.It's a good idea about charging visitors. But somehow I don't think it will work . I probably can't charge my parents, considering it's not that long since we rang them and asked if we could stay with them for the night, and stayed two months. My nephew hasn't got any money - and they're going to tidy our garden up for us, so we'll end up paying them, but at least we'll get a tidy garden (we're neither of us very good at staying on top of that kind of job).Pear, good luck with the job hunting. I hope you find just what you're looking for, but not so soon that you can't have a bit of time off first. |

Thanks Ailuros.
Say, do either of you have any experience adding back dried beans into your diet? I know they are Low GI. I'm afraid I will gain tons of weight if I add them back in, but yet they are good budget stretchers and healthy. Any advice? |

I eat beans, lentils and chick peas quite often. I find them quite a good way to test the waters of higher carb levels, because they give you a satisfying starchy taste without having the addictive qualities of wheat or potato. I generally don't have more than 1/4-1/2 cup, more often 1/4 cup, but I do enjoy them, and have them every couple of days. I have some chickpeas soaking at the moment. I'll probably cook them tomorrow and make half into hummus, and half to eat whole.
I didn't eat them while I was still trying to lose weight, so I can't really tell you how that will work. It really seems to me that at the moment, my weight goes up and down more in line with my calories than anything (apart from the day to day random wibbles). I keep my carbs under control because it helps even out my energy, stops my ankles swelling and lets me keep my calories at a reasonable level without being hungry. I think that's one of the things that's quite individual, so you'll just have to try it. But I think beans are much less risky than grains in terms of starting you on a slippery slope to ending face down in the carbs . One thing to watch, though, is that when you eat LC, your body doesn't bother to make so much of the enzymes needed to digest them, so keep your portions very small to start with, and if you find they produce more gas than you remember, don't necessarily write them off, because your body can make the enzymes again, it just takes a few days. |

Thanks for your advice, Ailuros. I may have some chili that I made yesterday. Its beans, beef and tomato sauce. Wait, I have an interview tomorrow, maybe not. Wouldn't want to embarass myself.

![]() ![]() I agree with Ailuros on the amount of beans. I will make chili for the family and instead of having a big bowl (like they do) I will fill half to 2/3 of a Cup with Chili and then have a salad with it. I've had no problems. |

Good to know that chili is ok to have. I'm really relieved to hear that. While we're on the subject, any experience with brown rice? I just got done moving some beds into storage and cleaning out one side of our bedroom. I'm halfway through the big project for today. Next I need to organize some food and clear a desk to move up to my new craftroom. Then I can finally organize the craftroom ![]() |

I eat brown rice too - similar quantities to beans - usually about 1/4 cup, occasionally 1/2. I don't find it causes problems/cravings. I know some people do get cravings, but I get more if I don't have a few of these things. I also very occasionally have porridge made with 1/4 cup of rolled oats for breakfast. I'd recommend introducing things gradually, so you have time to notice their effect on you, and can see if some work better than others.

I hope I burned some calories today.
Today I: - moved two mattrass downstairs to our bedroom and made a daybed out of them. - cleared the space where I put the mattrasses. - boxed up some stocked up food to clear a table. - moved the table upstairs to use as a desk in my "craft room/office" - cleaned some very dirty windows. - moved another table to the craft room. - rearranged the dining room. - moved all my craft supplies to the craft room. - did an online assessment before my interview tomorrow. - vacuumed - helped hubby clean the dryer duct. Phew. Now my back hurts. Andy is scratching his ear and I dont want to get out of bed to clean his ears. |

There are so many things I've been wanting to do, and finally have the time. I dont know how much time there will be so I am trying to get done as much as possible. I have lots of knitting saved up to do when the organizing projects get done.
Hubby is drooling over those Saeco coffee machines. Unfortunately, they cannot be converted to 220, so he is likely going to wait until we move before we get one. |

The one that I've just had repaired is a Jura. I think it's the same sort of thing as the Saeco ones - it's a "bean to coffee" machine. The espresso isn't quite as good as the Pavoni machine can make, but it's a lot less effort, so it's more useful as an everyday machine, or to let visitors make their own coffee without a three hour training session
. It's nice to have them both back and in working order . |

Had an interview at a job agency today, they sent me directly to another interview for a job at a merchandising company. Not sure about the job, but I was talking to them for a long time. I think they liked me, but that's always hard to say. Most of the people haven't been there very long, they explained it that they have been reorganizing the company. The accounting department is a mess. If I get the job, I have my work cut out for me. At least I wont be bored. I will hear tomorrow.

Even if you don't like this job, it's very encouraging, Pear! Would you like us to drop them a line to let them know they'd be lucky to have you working for them?
![]() This morning someone's coming to clear out our drains - I think they're not well designed, because every two or three years they get a bit smelly and we have to get somebody to use a high powered water spray to clear them out. What a glamorous life I lead . |

Drain cleaning, can it get any more fun, Ailuros? What will it be next week? |

Well, they offered me the job. I talked to hubby about it and he has done some research on the company and has a good feeling about it, so I'll go ahead and take it. The money is slightly higher and there may be a raise after I get hired on permanently.

It looks as if my husband has a chance to have a month or so off (paid) early next year. If you had a month, where would you go? We're thinking of somewhere around the Mediterranean, or Ireland, or maybe the southern hemisphere - like New Zealand, where the weather would be better. We don't want to spend too much money, but we could maybe rent a cottage/apartment for a month.
