Good morning, Tooter, Pear, Click, Jean - and any other visitors . Pear, I'm glad things are easier with your daughter . What else are you up to?

We're still having wonderful weather - sunny, but cool and breezy. Very nice.

I ended up back on the allergy meds yesterday - I dug a shirt out of the wardrobe to wear in the afternoon, and it had obviously been next to our anti-moth measures. They smell of lavender and tea tree, so it's not unpleasant, but it was enough to make me a bit sneezy. Then we had Caesar salad for dinner, and the very lightly cooked egg in the dressing finished the job . When it gets like that, everything seems to make it worse, so I decided to hit the clarityn in the interests of getting a good night's sleep.

We're planning a weekend away sometime next month. We're going to go to a little seaside village called Porlock Weir, where there isn't much apart from a few stone cottages and a harbour (a couple of hotels and shops too). It's on the coastal path, so you can easily go for walks, and we're just planning to hang around, eat, and take photographs. My next job is to check when the schools have their half term break, so we can avoid that week, because it always gets very busy.

Porlock Weir sounds really neat, Ailuros. I hope you take lots of pictures to share. I looked it up on wikipedia and could see a picture of the harbor. Porlock Weir - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sorry you're battling allergies. I'm starting to sneeze a little too. Wonder if my allergies are kicking in a little early.

I'm not up to much. Working as usual. This weekend is supposed to get really warm. We have a family party on saturday night, so we're going to relax during the day on saturday on the deck. Sunday, we may go to Mt Rainier to see how it looks early in the season. The road is back open.

Hubby has never been to Victoria BC, so we're talking about going for a long weekend.

Ailuros, that sounds like a PERFECT weekend to me!

As for Allergies? OMG, everyone and their brother is having problems with them right now. It's crazy. For here, I think it's because we had really hot days, then rain, then SNOW, now back to in between. It's like people's bodies (and the elements outside) don't know what the heck to do or what is up.

WOE: Atkins LC
Start Date: March 2008
Hi Everyone!

I'm from Singapore, currently 30 yrs old.

I'm re-doing atkins after giving birth to my girl and becoming fat eversince. I started Atkins LC WOE again since March 08... have lost quite alot, but i wanna get back to my old weight before having a kid - which seems so impossible to attain now... Sigh!!! But i will not give up!

I wonder if there's any members from Singapore or Asia in this forum. I don't think in Singapore there's any exclusive forum like this! Hehe... But it doesn't matter yah? Friends and support system knows no racial boundaries! Agree?

At least we all here have the same FOOD interests and similar goals to aim for. That's the most wonderful part! Really need all the help I can get now...

Have been experiencing some problems while doing this diet : Any solutions, guys n gals?

- Induction period no problem
- After losing seemingly alot and fitting into old S sized clothes (used to wear XS, maybe that's like Size 2)?, have become overwhelmed and more greedy... wanna eat some carby foods and be like other ppl around me. Though I know very well that I can't have portion control when eating carbs, and that I do gain weight very fast wen on carbs, I still try to lie to myself.

Sometimes I just have this urge to eat all the carbs I can and binge, usually only after dinner.

I'm determined to change this unhealthy action by posting here regularly, tap on the support from nice people like u all, account for daily meals and post menus, recipes whenever I can, read the stuff and the inspirational anecdotes generously written by you guys.

To start off :

15-May-2008

Breakfast:
- 3 steamed eggs with melted sandwich cheese inside. sprinkled with some vanilla extract.. (sounds weird? but Delish!!!)
- Half Portion sugarless Coleslaw (sweetened with Equal SF 1 carb sweetener) ... maybe about few spoonfuls of the coleslaw.

I pre-made batches of coleslaw and put into the fridge. The entire container (lasts for a week) has mayo and ONE pack of Equal SF sweetener - 1 packet's taste equivalent to 2 teaspoons of regular white sugar...

Lunch (cooked in the morning and brought to work) :

- Baked Salmon Belly strips slathered in Full Fat Mayonnaise, sprinkled with pepper and topped with 1 sliced sandwich cheddar and some mozarella before baking (oven toaster)
- Added few spoonfuls of the same coleslaw (pre-made) as a side dish.

Snack if hungry : Nuked sandwich cheese (Cheese Crisp) - Crispy and I love it!

Dinner (intended / planned) :

- Sliced fish in clear soup with green vegetables, some tofu (Chinese style)
- 2 steamed eggs

Will be buying dinner from a Chinese eatery near home, after fetching my daughter from childcare. She's such a darling, in full day childcare (Nursery One Level) now. Hehe!

Thanks in advance to all who post replies to my virgin message on this board! HAHA!!!!

Amber

Hi Amber,

Welcome to our thread, we're happy to have you!!! Congratulations on your little girl!!! I'll bet she is really cute at her age.

Your english is very good. Do you speak it often?

I'm not an expert, but I wonder what is in the Chinese food that you are eating. Here in the US, they put lots of sugar and cornstarch and maybe flour in it, so I am scared to try. Its quite possible that the Chinese food in Singapore is much different. Maybe this is giving you the cravings. The rest of your diet looks fantastic.

Can you tell if you are still in ketosis? You should be from what you are eating.

Tooter and Ailuros may have more advice for you, they have been at this much longer than I have.

Welcome again. Hope to see more of your posts.

Welcome, Amber . I don't know if there's anybody else from Singapore, but there's a thread in the local support section called something like UK/Europe/World where there's a fairly international group.

It can take quite a while for cravings to subside. Some people find that using a lot of sweeteners like splenda, even though they don't have carbs, keeps their taste for sweet things alive, so that might be something to watch. Also, for me, it's important to make sure I have plenty of variety, and things that I really enjoy, then I don't worry so much about the things I don't have. You might be doing that already - it's hard to tell a lot from on day's menu. I've not followed Atkins, but as you work through OWL I believe that you gradually introduce more foods. Sometimes people stay on Induction for a long time, but you don't have a huge amount of weight to lose, so if you aren't working through OWL, I think that would be a good idea to do.

By the way, if you post your message as a new thread in the Main Lobby, you'll probably get lots of responses.

Welcome again .

Hi Ailuros n Pear

Hullos.. it's a humid and scorching Thursday afternoon here in Singapore.

Well, I guess deep inside I know wat is making me give in to all the cravings, or rather, why I have these cravings in the first place. Its none other than......DIET COKE! We call it Coke Light, Coke Zero over here. But I depend on them so much to get through. I have no problems with eating LC foods, fats, etc... but somehow an ice cold carbonated Coke Light is simply irresistable! Arghh.... it's like I feel miserable if I can't even have that incoporated in this WOE.

And I guess the Chinese food I take may have some hidden carbs. Not alot though. Cos usually I take fish soup, I see how it's cooked and the eatery I eat does not use MSG. It's just putting sliced fish into boiled fish stock, with anchovies, green veg, sesame oil, seaweed. And for stir fried dishes, I do not take the sauce / gravy. I think the main thing is the Artificial Sugars. The feeling of sweetness as a comfort food.

And the psychological aspect of thinking, Hey I lost so much, it's time I enjoy abit. But the "abit" can't seem to remain as "abit"! haha! It just almost always blow out of proportion, and so will my figure.... :P

That aside, posting messages here will surely help as I love typing, improves my typing skills, makes it look like I'm doing work in front of my computer (and my boss!), improves my English, distracts me from thinking about eating and all the carby foods, enlightens me in terms of knowledge you gals can provide, and hopefully someday develop meaningful friendships even!

Now my boss is out at a meeting, so me, as his secretary, does what she does best! Relax, in order to travel a longer journey! Recuperate and Recharge! heheheheheeh!

I had my home-cooked food (baked salmon + some coleslaw) for lunch... and washed down with lots of water..... Delish! --> I mean the salmon, not the water ;P

My ok & passable English is all thanks to my interest in True Crime books (oops, I mean credit goes to the books, not the crimes), my diploma in Mass Communications, and my constant arguments in English with my hubby...HAHA.

Thanks for replying..... u gals r so nice!

Amber

Its funny how foods affect people differently. I have diet coke often and it doesnt cause cravings for me. I have coffee with sugar free (splenda) syrup too. No problem.

Let us know if removing the diet coke from your diet takes your cravings away.

How hot is it in Singapore? We're supposed to get up to 20 today and about 25 for the weekend (for us, this is record breaking this early in the year).

Hubby booked us a trip to Victoria BC in a few weekends. He is so sweet. We're both really looking forward to it. We'll take a boat from Seattle and stay Saturday night and just relax and do touristy things. This will be his first time there. I have been there many times in the past.

We've just had a few days in the low-mid 20s. Pretty warm for us for this time of year. We're back down to the teens again today.

Pear, I've just booked our days away, too . The Porlock Weir trip.

Of course . Jump right in. Why don't you tell us a bit about yourself? Are you following a LC plan? How's it going?

I would love to!!
My name is mallory. I was born and raised in south louisiana. (my downfall lol) Growing up, my mom cooked typically southern food. Everyday rice and gravy,a LOT of rice! EVerything battered and fried you can think of. I have continued eating like this until recently. I got my hands on an DANDR book. This is my second week trying the diet. But, i started all over this week. I consumed way too much cheese last week. I thought I had lost 2 pounds. I am loving the diet. At first, i was having major bread cravings. But, those have stopped I feel healthier. I am not really seeing any fast results, but i know i just need to give it time.

I have read a few pages of this thread. But, i guess i would have needed to be on the previous one to know everyone and what is going on. So, if you don't mind, could i get brief descriptions about everyone. Thanks!!!

Nice to meet you . We won't expect you to plough through all the old posts .

I'm English, and I've been eating low carb for just over five years. I lost about 30 pounds, following Protein Power. The last couple of years I've had trouble with depression and low energy - made worse by hormonal changes as I approach menopause, and odd bits and pieces of stress along the way - so I've been incorporating some ideas from Schwarzbein, who is an endocrinologist. I've increased my carbs a bit, so they're quite a lot higher than Atkins Induction levels, but still a fair bit lower than the general population. The thing is that however long you do this, there always seems to be something new to learn.

I see from your stats that you don't have a huge amount of weight to lose, so it's normal that the changes will be slower than those who start with more excess weight. Actually your numbers aren't all that different from where I started. How tall are you? I'm 5' 2" and currently about 116/117. I started at about 145, I think, though I didn't weigh myself until a few days in, so I'm not exactly sure.

Hi Mallory:

I'm Dutch/American. I started low carb last November. I have tried alot of diet plans but nothing has worked for me up until now. I have lost a total of 45lbs including some weight I lost earlier last year. I'm a mother of two teenage girls and two yorkies and I'm married to a great guy.

I'm losing an average of 4lbs a month, which is fine. I'm over halfway to goal now. I feel so much better than I used to and have so much more energy.
