It does seem that you reach a point in your life where you have to compensate for all the mistakes you made with your body in the past, doesn't it?
I don't know that we have any particular family tendencies to specific diseases. There are an assortment of illnesses scattered about, but nothing that crops up lots of times. I forgot to mention that I've not taken any allergy tablets for three days now. I always used to just take a handful a year, but the last couple of years I have been having to take them pretty well every day, even right through the winter. Allergies are one of the things associated with adrenal weakness, so it's a good sign that they're getting less. |

Good morning!
Sorry about the snow Tooter, I hope spring comes back soon. I hear we're in a global cooling trend. Take that, Al Gorge! Its just doing its normal cycles. I survived another weekend with little Pear. The 17yr/old Pear and I took her shopping and she was a pill the whole time. She complained about everything. I told her she'd better stop complaining or sister Pear wouldn't take her out anymore. She just kept going on about how she wanted tank tops but that I was only buying her the sweatpants and socks she needed. She actually did a little homework last night, she had to ask me questions for health class because I had been a smoker. Last saturday, hubby and I went to the casino and to the outlet mall and then wallyworld. I got my watch band resized because I lost weight. We found some sugar free fudge at The Fudgery. It was ok, not great. Then we went to the casino for the buffet. I had a sugar free dessert that tasted like chemicals. I also had some clam chowder, a small cup, that filled me up instantly. It must have been full of fillers. Then we gambled $9, and won back exactly $9, so that was cool. At wallyworld, we bought a bunch of groceries. I found those wheat wraps that are 6 net carbs each. I had one yesterday and now I'm gassy and gained a pound. I'm at the stage now that I need to start adding carbs back in, so I'll try them this week to see if I continue to gain weight or if I just keep it at the pound. |

Oh and 17yr/old Pear's friend has cancer and just was told by the doctors that she has only 6 - 8 months to live. Its so very sad. She's 15, she has skin cancer and its spread throughout her body.

. How dreadful. . When I was that age, someone I knew at school - a peripheral friend, not a close one - died of a sudden heart attack when she went out for a horse ride after having 'flu. It's such a shock for everybody. And in some ways even harder to know in advance! Poor girl, and her family! |

Thanks Ailuros.
I also had a friend in high school who died suddenly from the flu, she was 15. Its hard when death becomes a reality especially at such a young age. I can't imagine having cancer and facing that at the age of 15, but the Lords ways are not our ways, and he must have a purpose in all this. I remembered the info about cancer and low carb this morning and felt I had to send DD a quick email to mention it to her. I dont know if it would help at this late stage. I should have thought if it earlier, but for some reason, I didnt. Barbara is a really great young gal, we met her last year when we took her out to dinner with DD. Its still so unbelievable. I'm sure she could use any prayers you all may be willing to pray for her. |

.My two last meals today didn't go quite as expected. Mid-afternoon I forgot what I'd said, and ended up having a baby banana and a chunk of cheese instead. For dinner we had Greek salad (cucumber, tomato, feta cheese, olives, mint, olive oil with pita bread). |

The wraps always did that to me too. My husband and kids could eat them and still lose weight. *sigh* Look at the ingrediants on the wraps. That might help you understand what's going on.Those wraps aren't a "real" food and are full of chemicals and soy. That was your bodies reaction to them. A little bit of real grain (that might be the same carb count or even more carbs) might not have you react the same way. Did that make sense?

Hello, Jean
. It's funny how things shift in a relationship, isn't it? We used to just meet up at the weekend, and I had to be on call some weeks, or go to stay with my parents, or go on a course... So a lot of the time we only saw one another every two or three weeks. Of course, we looked forward to it, and wished it could be more often, but it wasn't too bad. Now we're used to being together, and it seems terrible if we have a day or two apart. I think that's happening with you and David. For some reason, things have changed and neither of you is happy spending so much time apart. I hope that while he's with you, you can work out something that will be better for you . Have a great time together, anyway. |

Well, I am FINALLY back to 124 lbs again!! GOOD LORD!!!! Remember when I decided to listen to my husband's ONE comment and up my carbs and get my weight to be 128 to 132lbs? OMG, what a nightmare. I really didn't share all of what I was going through with it, but I was NOT happy.
It takes a very short time to gain the weight. At first it is water weight, and then (after a few days) POOF, it turns into real weight. It also screwed up my metab for a little bit. Even trying to go back, it seemed like I was just gaining weight, no matter what my carb count was. I went up to 139 lbs!! What the heck is up with that??? I actually had to calm myself down. I got back into my old mode of "Do what you are supposed to do, and you'll be the weight you are supposed to be". Well, it took this long...But I am back down to 124 lbs. Now, I am getting more into exercise and Lifting weights (building muscle) I am very much aware that I actually could gain weight from that. I'm cool with that. That's building muscle. That has nothing to do with fat. I don't care what the scale says about that. YIKES!! It seemed to take forever to get back here. Anyways...That's my little Update. ETA: btw, those carbs were with Grains...if you remember. |

Wow, it sounds as if grains really don't suit you - 15 lbs
. That was just the sort of reaction I was dreading when I started the carb increase. I'm glad you're back on track with food that suits you again. You'd said you were going to lower your carbs again, and I just assumed you'd dropped straight back down to 124! Sorry you were going through all that . |

It almost shook me up a bit. Like I said...I had to calm myself down and get into the mindset "I'll be the weight I am supposed to be". I just needed to stick with low carb and totally get rid of the grains. I must truly have an allergy or something to the grains. OH, and I also felt like CRAP too. *shiver* Thank GOODNESS, that is over with. Lesson Learned. |

I'd been feeling a bit cheated because I'd quite like to be 112 again, and it isn't happening - I can lose weight by cutting carbs and/or calories, but it just doesn't feel healthy. The tiredness/depression get worse, so I don't want to go that way. Of course, I know that 117 isn't at all bad. My BMI is 21.5, and "they" say it should be between 18.5 and 24.9. Maybe I'll go down a bit when my body's ready, and maybe I won't. It doesn't really matter, but it's hard to let go of the idea. The fact that I could take my carbs up to 100-120 and add 300 calories and not change my weight at all has really convinced me that for now, this is where my body wants to be. Now if only I can get my mind to want the same thing, we'll all be happy
.Another rambling thought I had was that I went to see a doctor when my allergies were particularly bad a few years ago. This was after six months of sub 30g low carbing. Afterwards I raised my carbs to 60 because I'd lost the weight I needed to, and wanted to get rid of the weak shaky unsettled feelings. Two things strike me - one is that the allergies getting worse coincided with the low carb stuff, which I'd not really put together before. The way I felt was sort of hyper and high adrenalin, so that may have been what was going on. The other thing is that the doctor didn't recommend allergy testing. He said that very often you react to something one time, and not another, so if you're not careful, you end up with a very restrictive diet, which most of the time isn't necessary. He said the best thing was clean living and over the counter anti-histamines. Of course, he wasn't terribly helpful as to what "clean living" actually meant. It's not as if I was putting away bottles of gin and staying up all night partying . But he was right that my allergies go away when I'm in good health. They're more a sign of my body struggling, than of a problem with particular substances.Higher cortisol levels reduce allergies - that's why it's sometimes used as a treatment, and why adrenal problems are associated with allergies. It takes a long time to figure this stuff out, but I do feel as if I'm starting to make progress. I don't want to suggest that low carb levels are bad or dangerous - there are lots of people here thriving on them, running, lifting weights, and feeling fantastic. But I wasn't thriving, and I think I spent too long assuming that because it worked for other people, it must be right for me too. And I thought that because some of the problems I had on very high carbs had improved, that very low levels must be right for me - somehow it took me a long time to get round to exploring the middle ground. .Have you read Protein Power LifePlan? It has a whole chapter on leaky gut and how it relates to various autoimmune problems - grains, legumes and dairy seem to be the main problems (peanuts and cashews are legumes, not true nuts). |

I honestly don't know what the "name" of my condiction would be. IBS? Leaky gut? Yeast over growth? There are a hosts of other names. All I know is that my body does not do well with grains at all. If I stay away from them, My health is GREAT. If I try to add them back in...I slowly lose the health and then WHAM!!! It's full blown. |
