The restaurant has really good food and it's easy for us to make low carb choices there.

Hopefully, in between the rain, we will be able to get some Jet skiing in!!!

It's so funny, the kids are so spoiled!! They are like "What, You aren't making food for us while you are gone"? Um...NO!! You all are adults, do it yourself!

"What, you can't baby sit Irelyn or the Dog"? Um...NOPE, it's our turn to have fun! lol Catch me during the Week, because the weekends belong to hubby and I during boating season.

It feels so cool to be so selfish!!
Tooter, enjoy yourself and hubby and think how much the kids realize and appreciate all you do for them.

What are your temps like these days?

My legs are much stronger too. My posture is also much better.

This is definately something I'm going to do for "life".
Tooter, I hope you will educate me in this area, I desperately need it.

Glad you enjoyed your weekend on the lake, Tooter. We'll be spending more time on the lake this summer too. We bought into the year of unlimited boat tours deal that the dinner cruise offered. It was not much money and we can go as often as we want to enjoy the area while we can.
If you have a super Wal-Mart, they are right by the soft taco shells. They aren't bad in a pinch, and should be better for me than bread...although it still isn't a real "clean" low-carb.

I'm glad that you feel so much better this year than you did last year at this time.

I hope that you have fun on the "cruise line".

I'm still afraid to hope that he will really move down here, wouldn't that be awesome?!?!?

Quick check-in - I'm on my way to work in a few minutes. Again. I've been working, working, working! Got the new schedule for May and they had me scheduled for 12 days in a row!

But I talked to them and managed to get this Sunday and next Sunday off - so I'll try to check in then....

Mwah!

Good to hear from you hippiegirl, I hope the job works out great and am glad that they gave you these two Sundays off, you definitely need them.

Take care of yourself and drop in when you can.

Hippie . It's good to see you.

Has anyone heard from Pear?

Jean, it's been nice to see a bit more of you - and to hear your plans starting to get going .

L&F, sorry I wasn't more chatty at the weekend .

Tooter, how was the lake? Did your family survive without you spending your weekend cooking for them?

I'm feeling brighter again - this was a shorter down time than many recent months . I've never heard this curious post-menstrual-depression

I'm still keeping up my schedule of lots of mini-meals. I never thought I'd be able to increase both my carbs and my calories and not gain weight! I'm starting to put together more and more bits of information that suggest for me the adrenal system is more of an issue than insulin. Someone posted a thread about pseudo-ephedrine, and I remembered one time I had to take some for a sinus infection - I felt as if I'd had intravenous caffeine . Obviously not everybody feels like that on it, or they'd never be able to sell any! And when I tried intermittent fasting, I felt terrible. Blood sugar hovering just around 60, lightheaded when I got up even just from sitting, just generally feeling spacy... And the way I feel on 20g carb is over-adrenalined too - heart rate up, jumpy, jittery... (when you don't eat carbs, your body converts some of the protein you eat into carbs for the few body processes that actually need glucose, and to maintain adequate blood sugar levels, and adrenaline is needed to initiate that conversion).

Some people are insulin resistant and can never tolerate more than tiny quantities of carb - for me, I think the adrenal system is the one that needs handling with kid gloves. Luckily, I'd already been doing a lot of the right things, just by trying to work out what made me feel better, so I was resting, getting plenty of sleep, eating pretty well, not doing strong exercise, doing yoga and a bit of walking... Apart from increasing the carbs a bit, and eating more often, I was already doing most of what's recommended. That and my two ounces of coffee a day, and small glass of wine. Maybe if I get all the rest right, I'll be able to keep those .

I'm going to go through Eat Fat, Lose Fat (Sally Fallon & Mary Enig) and Nourishing Traditions to see what other recipes appeal now there's room for a few more carbs.

Morning gals:

Sorry I've been MIA. The little pear moved back home unexpectedly last sunday night and its been kinda crazy since then. We finally got the rest of her things saturday and yesterday she reluctantly went through everything and put them away. She's got a major attitude issue going on that I'm not sure I can nip in the bud. Her grades are in the toilet, it would be a blessing if she were to actually fail and have to do the 9th grade again. She really aught to be ashamed of herself. She's been skipping school and missing her detention and consistantly late to school. We find all these things out after she moves back home by rummaging through her trash.

I've got my work cut out for me and I'm going to have to be a total b**ch to her in order to get her in the right path. Obviously leaving her alone (like she wants) is NOT going to work.

As far as her schoolwork, she knows the benefits and the consequences, and were going to stay out of it. We emotionally cannot handle it. She's going to have to hit rock bottom at some point and dig herself out. I hope its soon, which is why I hope they fail her this year, but that may not even be enough. She is headstrong and stubborn (always has been and always will be).

She has big plans for the future but doesnt have a way of implementing her plans. I think she really believes that it will all just somehow fall into place and she'll be making a hundred grand a year and shopping at nordstroms without having to lift a finger.

I didnt raise her like this. My other daughter is at least responsible and smart so I dont think its all my fault.

Pear, I'm sure it's not your fault at all. People don't all grow up the same way, even in the same home. It must be so stressful for you to deal with, though . How old is 9th grade?

On a brighter note, hubby and I went on another boat trip yesterday, and it was gorgeous outside and it was a fantastic time.

We went to starbucks beforehand. I got a drip and added my own half and half and splenda and cinnamon. In my haste I added some vanilla, which turned out to contain sugar and I felt it right away, a whoosh of hazyness went through me and I got a headache. It was only one shake of the shaker but it was enough for me to feel it.

I have noticed that I tolerate clam chowder just fine, no weight gain like I would have expected. I love clam chowder so I'm happy to have figured that out.
