Hi fivers!

Went walking yesterday...not as far this time...only about 2 miles. Spike was panting a lot and I didn't want to push him by going further.

It's warmer out today and this evening I plan to go for a nice bike ride.

Kim - I can see the pics. I like the dwarf alberta spruce. How big does it get? Weeds are the pits, ugh! I just used some weed and grass killer in my little backyard so I don't have to deal with doing any work back there. I think some annuals would look nice out front in your yard. If you get a lot of sun there, then you definitely don't want to go with impatiens...they don't like that as I found out last year. Say, would you like to do some planting for me? I need to fix up the garden area in my front yard (mulch, plant a couple of small bushes or something of the like, and maybe some petunias). May do that this weekend. I'd rather do anything than yard work though...LOL...

Karen - I don't eat lamb, either. And I certainly couldn't touch goat! Congrats on the bunco winnings!

I love impatiens! The two front beds down by the stairs I do an impatiens carpet there.

karen, where did you get your solar lights again? I can;t for the life of me remember where I saw the 10 light kit advertised that insluced 2 spotlights

Kim - No, Spike is DBF's dog.

Impatiens are very pretty! They don't thrive in my yard because of the afternoon sun. Besides petunias, what other annuals like the sun?

I agree with you on the butterfly bushes, Kim ... they are nice and definitely attract the butterflies but they get out of control! We had them in Maryland. The other stuff I know nothing about.

Our power was out most of the day ... I came in early for golf because I was cold (and playing awful!) and the house was cold too! Finally came on about 6:00. There was a little electrical fire at the dry cleaners, I guess, and it caused a problem at the substation. Well, we learned out fireplace works in a power outage ... but can't heat the whole house. I can use the cooktop if I light a burner with a match.

Stepdad got moved to the new nursing home ... Mom said the folks were very nice and helped her with his stuff.

I came in early (6:30!!!) because I couldn't sleep and now the office electricity keeps going off and on. It's reset the a/c which is blowing full blast so now it is cold in the office. Bad weather outside but it should pass soon.

Linda - I'm glad that your stepfather was moved to a better place. Sorry you were without power. Funny that you mention problems at the substation- Jim works in substations doing the wiring. Sometimes it's his fault there is no power!

Kim - I don't know the name of most plants. I just pick what I think looks pretty. I still can't see pictures. I guess I'm blocked.

Scale back down to pre-bunco weight as it should be considering my 40 minute treadmill walk and 30 minute gazelle usage. I would really like to see a new weight for 2008.

TGIF!

Went bike riding yesterday evening...11 miles. It was super gorgeous out!!! I expected the trail to be packed with bikers, but there were more walkers. Had turkey burgers and asparagus for dinner afterwards.

Linda - Hope the new nursing home works out for stepdad.

Karen - Hope the scale continues to cooperate for you!

Kim - Did you get a new roof?

Linda so glad to hear your stepdad got moved into a nice facilty. I know it will be hard on both of them, but it will also be a relief for your mom.

Karen don't send the bad weather this way! Sorry you can't see the pictures!

Patty - yes! it looks really good too! The wrapped the rubber membrane down under the downspout too, that way there is no way for the water to get back underneath, which was the problem before.

And Rob is going to do my drywall in my bedroom, knock out the dropped ceiling in the kitchen and drywall it...AND....I have been fighting with insurance about the carpet as cleaning it did nothing to eliminate the huge pockets and hard rock feel udnerneath...so this morning a very nice adjuster (not the jerkwad I was dealing with before) told me to send in an estimate for new carpet and they will add that to my claim! WOOHOO!!!

now....the carpet right now is blue....and it does match my blue room.....but would love to go a bit darker....more into the brown/chocolate realm....is that too much? not a good idea?

Kim - I had chocolate brown carpet once and hated it (unless I had just vacumned). It showed every speck of lint or dirt much worse than the cream carpet I had before. Of course if you vacumn daily, then you'll love it. So glad that everything is falling into place for you!

Kim - Glad you got your roof and great news about the carpet! So glad the insurance company decided to honor your request. DBF has brown carpeting (not throughout the whole house, just in some rooms...the rest have beige) and, granted, it is OLD and desperately NEEDS to be replaced, but everything does show up, especially pet hair. It has to be vacuumed constantly! I wouldn't recommend it, unless you mind that chore.

Patty - hey - you snuck in on me twice!

Kim - I thought the exact same thing so got it when the kids were little. Big mistake. So what did you think of Survivor last night? I was trying to watch it while walking on the treadmill and my phone kept ringing. I'm so glad I have DVR so I could rewind and watch. I yelled "yes" so loud when the vote was announced that I scared the cat!

Kim - Did you feel the earthquake this morning? I was reading the Earthquake thread on the PG and whippetlady felt it, so I was wondering if you also did.

Whew, what a week. My job just gets more and more hectic! There is a part of that I love but I could definitely do without all the tension and drama and flat-out stupid people I've had to deal with lately.

I'm off today. I got my grocery shopping done (only spent $32 on two weeks' worth of groceries thanks to all my prior stocking up on sale items, couponing and buying smart at Sam's...Sam's alone saved me $35) and have made my usual forty'leven trips to the garbage can trying to get every scrap of trash out there before the trash truck came, which it finally did, so now, NOW, I can relax.

Kim, did you realize it was an earthquake when you felt it? That would be WEIRD! I love your landscape ideas. Very nice.

Patty, any fun weekend plans? I am going to clean house and CHILL. Don't plan to leave again until 8:30 a.m. on Monday.

Karen, has the power settled down yet? I hate it when our office power goes off because I ALWAYS lose something on the computer. It went down a couple of weeks ago and the guy who works with me was running up and down the hall going "I LOST THE LUNCH LIST, I LOST THE LUNCH LIST" ROFL!!! I used to prepare the lunch list (for our volunteers, six weeks of lunches for a dozen people three days a week making sure they get a different menu each day they work...it's quite a matrix) so I could totally empathize, but it was still funny the way he was carrying on.

Linda, great news about step-dad. I hope he is happy there and it works better for your mother.

Teri, good to see you posting. Happy (early) Passover.

Renee, how did DH's interview go yesterday?

Kim - Ashley emailed me this morning and said she had weird dreams and woke up to her legs shaking and thought it was a result of her dreams. Now reading that you felt it, I've let her know that she isn't losing her mind! Is that what you said to the guy - "what's your point"?

Susan - thought I was the only one that ran around trying to beat the garbage pickup. I swear those guys know what we are doing, because a few weeks ago, they came at 5:30 a.m. when their pickup is normally around 8:00. I take my cans out the night before pickup because I'm not going to do it when I'm fully dressed and ready for work. So there I go with the kitchen's trashbag to put in the cans at the curb and they were already empty.

There's a comforter set at Macy's I've been eye-balling but it was $399 and that is WAY out of my price range. Today's sales ad showed it for $99 and there was also a $10 coupon on a $25 purchase before 1:00 today. I called and asked a sales lady to check to see if they had a queen and if so, put my name on it. She called me back to say she found one and it was on hold for me. She called me back shortly after that and said everyone was trying to buy my comforter even though it had my name on it (she was checking the name on credit cards I guess). She asked me to come as soon as I could because she was afraid it was going to get taken. I got it! wooo-hooo - Total price $91!!!

Great deal, Karen! Show us a pic!

I have brown carpet in our living area, Kim. When I can afford it, I will probably replace it with something similar ... maybe with a little more taupe in it. But then I don't have kids or pets. It does show all the little fir needles, though.

Gosh, the paper said there has been a series of quakes off the Oregon coast recently ... but I haven't felt a one!

Susan, I bet you've got a good book set aside for the w/e.

Glad you got a nice ride in, Patty.

As I was getting dressed to go to the Aquarium this a.m. I heard machines in the street ... and ran out in a panic because I thought the pavers were here and I needed to get my car out. But it was just a guy with gravel and a grader. We have nice pretty gravel now, though.
