Morning girls,

yep, I'm busy with boys and volunteer stuff. Yesterday, helping with the scoliosis (sp?) screening was fun though. We sat outside by the pool and grabbed the 8th grade boys on their way to swim class. It was fun watching the kids swim. DS14 finished his class by racing the teacher and his TA. Everyone was on the way in and DS heard swim race and he went running back and started late, but won anyway.

Debbie, every part of the world has its drawbacks. We have wild fires, although we are pretty isolated from that danger here, just 10 minutes away they are not! mudslides, our little town is flat so no worries for us, but for our friends, and the occasional earthquake, although, again, where we live we actually have fewer than we did living on the New Madrid fault line in Mo./Ky. So, good weather, almost no bugs, low humidity, and fewer earthquakes than when we lived in the midwest... I think we'll stay.
And, I agree with MK and Kaye, I thought everyone had a crockpot, are you sure you don't have one somewhere?

MK, glad nothing was broken in the big quake! Did you hear it too or just feel the earth move?

Kaye, for this weekend you might want to live vicariously through someone other than me. We have a friends child coming to stay with us while his parents and older sibs are OOT. He has severe ADHD and is quite a handful.
He is a sweet kid though. In addition to that we have 3 water polo games in various places over 2 days. I let his big brothers know when they come home if they need anything next week (their aunt, with no kids, is staying at their house) they of course no how to find us.

Cindy, hope your day is better than yesterday! It is so rude to show up that early and just expect someone to make time for you. Enjoy your lunch date!

Barb, sounds like a nice visit with Connie!

Ange, LOL!

Becky, WTG on starting to exercise!

OMG - we just had an aftershock!!

MK, that's why it costs a million dollars for 2 rooms and a path. We do have earthquakes, just not like what you think of when you think Ca. quake. It is a tourist town, so in the summer its super crowded and you can't find anyplace to park. Its expensive to buy gas... Its funny, people here say I could never live there, I would be too afraid of tornados/thunderstorms. I think its all what you are used to.

Too true Kelly!

And just because I know you're all just fascinated:

The quake shook skyscrapers in Chicago's Loop, 230 miles north of the epicenter, and in downtown Indianapolis, about 160 miles northeast of the epicenter.

U.S. Geological Survey scientists in Denver were examining data about the quake, said geophysicist Carrieann Bedwell.

"This was widely felt, all the way to Atlanta, a little bit in Michigan," she said.

Residents in Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Louisville and St. Louis also reported feeling the earth shake. In Louisville, the quake caused bricks to fall off part of a building near downtown, and television video showed bricks strewn in the street, but the mayor's office said there were no reports of injuries.

The Midwest, most notably southeast Missouri and southwest Illinois, is home to the New Madrid fault, a network of deep cracks in the earth's surface.

The fault, at the center of the country's most active seismic zone east of the Rockies, produces numerous small quakes a year, most too weak to be noticed by the public

You guys are so bad that I just might not be aloud to hang out on this thread anymore. It wasn't JOHN'S elliptical machine, it was John's elliptical machine. Dirty minds.... shame on you. LMAO!!!

Some of the parents said that they felt the earth quake but I was sleeping, I didn't fall asleep again til after 4 a.m. and I don't think anything would have made me wake up. I had to be torn away from my bed at 6:45, got to work 1 minute late.

I weighed in and lost 1.6 pounds. I almost didn't and then I thought that I wouldn't know what I lost this week if I didn't so I'm glad that I did. I'm sure it's because I worked out on John's (Not JOHN'S) elliptical machine. LOL.

Toodles, Mom is here to play with Alyssa but i just put her (Alyssa, not Mom) down for a nap. Talk to you dirty minded girls later.

MK, glad the quake didn't cause any damage at your place. It was big on the news here as people up here felt it too. They kept talking about how unusual it was, but they must never have taken a geology class as we know the Mississippi valley is the next 'rift' zone as the plates move apart there. Will be a HUGE concern in 100,000 years!

Becky, you're so funny! Congrats on your loss, good job! Riding JOHN'S today?

Deb, everyone needs a crock pot! Even if it's just for big vats of sloppy joes for parties!

Cindy, who shows up an hour early for meetings? OCD types? Maybe they got the time wrong.....

Kelly, have fun with your ADHD guest this weekend! Will be like being at my house!

Having leftovers for dinner, have lots that must be eaten or thrown out. Then we're off to the 'good' library and video store hoping to snag a copy of Juno for tonight.
cya later, K

DH and I are meeting friends for dinner.
DD21 is off to a fraternity formal with her BF in Indianapolis!
Those were the days!

Must remember to tape Dr Who!
The new season starts tonight!

MK, see above for our plans. Just a kid weekend. I like the old Dr. Who but haven't really gotten into the new ones.

Kaye, DS10 is very happy to have ADHD guest for the weekend. Actually, he's high energy/high maintenance but better behaved and more pleasant than a couple of DS10's friends who are only children in nondiscipline households. One of his friends thinks everything is open for negotiation. He will invite himself for dinner (or whatever), I will say not tonight, and then he starts to argue that you should let him stay. DS says, "dude, give it up, she won't change her mind" Too funny!

Becky, WTG on the loss!

MK, I thought of another down side to living here, because there are so many kids on bikes, kids walking, dogs out and about... AND traffic, I can off the top of my head think of at least 10 kids that are friends with the boys that have been hit by cars in the last 2 years, 2 of them were backed into. (and that's just the kids we know, not counting the ones we don't!)

You're right - that is scary!!

You do have a busy weekend planned!
Those are always fun though.

I guess I need to get ready for dinner, but it's pouring down rain again.
I hate trying to find a parking place in the rain!

It is scary, none of them were really hurt, but still! The last two I heard about the person didn't call the police or a parent or anything, just said, are you okay and left! One of those was in front of the school and that person will probably be in trouble as a hit and run. The other one, was a MS girl and she didn't even tell her mom for a couple of days either and only some kids saw it happen. She was just scraped up (like a bike wreck) but still!

I just figured up and I've lost 13.1 pounds so far. With 51 to go. UGH!!! I liked it better before I figured up what I still had to lose. But at least I've got it going down now.

Alyssa was so worn out when she left. Kim and Brad took a trip to the new house and Kim sent us 2 pictures via cell phone of her running around the back yard. She is going to love having a yard to play in, expecially after being in a 2 bedroom apartment and not being able to go outside because of a big huge pond outside their patio door. It's pretty but not very practical for a little girl that needs to run and play and have fun.

How's everyone doing? MK, things still okay there? John just said, "you know there are probably going to be aftershocks." In 79, John and I was in Sears buying a set of brass lamps and were standing where the chandileres (go for it MK, I didnt' get to sleep before 4 a.m. and had to be at work at 7:30, then had Alyssa this afternoon and I'm bushed.) started tinkling and moving. When we got outside and in the car he turned on the radio and they said that we'd just had an earthquake. Then again in 86 we were waiting for Mom and Dad to get to our house, we were going to dinner with them and all of a sudden it felt like the sofa was vibrating. John and Kim didn't notice it because John was rocking Kim while we were waiting to leave but I looked over at Adam, my parrot (I'll have him 21 years on May 16) had one claw on the perch, the other on the cage bars and his beak gripping the cage bars. When Mom and Dad got to our house Dad said they'd just announced that there was a slight earthquake, but to Adam and I it wasn't SLIGHT!!! Hope everything is okay there in Illinois.

Kaye, did you feel anything? They said on the news that it was felt in Michigan too. Some of the parents came in and said they were up with the kids giving bottles, etc and they felt it, but I was soooo asleep by then, I'd taken 2 Advil p.m. so I could get a little sleep before work. Guess it did the trick. John said he didn't hear or feel anything.

Hope everyone has a great weekend, we have a funeral about 35 miles from here in Hillsboro, OH to go to on Sunday. John's step-dad's cousin passed away. He was such a sweet guy, he came to the Adams' Christmas celebrations and he always came to John's step-dad's 4th of July picnic. He had lung cancer and only found out less than a month ago. So sad, I'm tired of funerals right now.

I want something to happy to look forward to, I want to meet the shorties this summer. WAAAA.

Hi Becky!
Soooo Cute Barb!

I am totally PUI!
2 amazing drinks and a random foo foo martini - I just let the bartender make up something!

Bad idea!
Dinner was perfect, however, grouper and asparagus.
Then the alcohol began - not pretty!

DH had to drive me home! Yikes!

Luckily I'm a happy drunk!

Got home from work last night and never got on the computer. youngest was planted there after dinner.

I have a cold. I have slept lousy for two nights. I was exhausted yesterday at work yet I couldn't sleep last night.I kept waking up. I am off to run 12 miles. We are doing the point to point into DC and then we eat breakfast and take the metro back which is nice. I have to grocery shop, iron, buy youngest a whole new summer wardrobe because he is too big for his size 28 short or boys 18s. No plans for tonight. I hopefully will crash and sleep.

Kelly, you are correct all places have theire plusses and minuses. My mom lives in Florida which is Hurricaine central. I don't think I would want to live where there are torandoes either. I will settle for snow and traffic. Traffic and high home costs are what we get here. You will be busy this weekend and you are nice to take on an extra kid with issues.

MK, No earth quake felt here. I think there was a small one once when we lived in upstate NY/Albany area. Speaking of Albany area reminds me of Minky the missing.

Barb, the photos are great. You both look happy and relaxed anf the babies are getting so big.

Kaye, my son is going to yet another Smash Brothers tournament today.

I may have to get a crock pot when I am out today and I need hints of what to make in it. Youngest will eat sloppy joes but I make on the stove. He won't eat stew or pork or roasts of any kids so maybe that is why I don't use a crock pot.

Cindy, hope you got through your day yesterday. I am often early for things but I don't expect the person I am meeting with to be available. I just don't want to be late.I am sure the parents were anxious. I understand how it is with a kid with issues.

Ange, how are you doing?? house on the market? when do you move?

We have my son's last IEP meeting next week. I just got his OT evaluation and his visual motor skills are horrible. I mean bottom of the charts on most areas yet they don't see a need for more OT only accommodations because these things usually don't improve. I don't know what this kid is going to do with his life. He is totally insecure and introverted unless he is dealing with video games.

Becky, didn't mean to forget you. Way to go on the weight loss. I think it is amazing. I know all about not sleeping. I am sure the Sudaphed I took last night didn't help either. I need to go buy more of the real kind you have to sign out from the cashier. Twice in one week. Hope they don't think I am making Crystal Meth. Just two sickies in one house.

Morning!

Went to bed very early, when DH got home from his meeting/dinner.....we were exhausted after this week....but then DD18 called me a couple times to aprise me of her plans and where abouts.....which of course interupted my sleep! She was planning on spending the night at a friends, and when I texted her about 12:30 - she called right away and said she was coming home!

Becky - That is a start! Don't look at the BIG picture, break it down into smaller increments!

MK -

Debbie - what grade is your son in? If he is a junior, I would seriously take a look at what he wants to do AFTER high school, NOW, and start a Transition plan while working with his IEP. Whether it's a community college, Technical school, whatever........you should begin that plan early. If you have any questions, let me know - it's what I do for a living, and have been told I am good at it!

Regarding these people showing up early - whether they are anxious parents or not, if you have an appt at a certain time, why would they just show up EARLY at your office door? I am already booked with appointments and can even be meeting with students and/or parents and they come and stand in my doorway! We have a HUGE, comfortable, Welcome Center and that is where they need to go and check in and sit and wait. Then there are those who do show up at our office and refuse to go back out to our Welcome Center.....
