I just read the link to Dr. Mercola and he says that the egg whites are much more nutricious raw than cooked, but he also says to only lightly stir them rather than blend or whip them because the proteins loose some of their effect.

Also for those of you using the sf jello, I thought of the same thing today. I don't use sf Jello because I don't like the aspartame, but rather, I make my own with kool-aid and splenda mixed with knox gelatin. I actually buy the gelatin at a bulk store so it's less expensive even than knox. One tbs of the gelatin is equal to a small box of sf jello. I was thinking that if I only used 1 tsp in a cold drink, it would get somewhat thick, but not set and it would be really good.

I went out this afternoon and bought some heavy cream, so I will begin the experiment with you tomorrow.

Thanks for this thread. It is really something to think about.

Chocolate hazelnut egg cream

It was yummy! Here is how I made it:

Chocolate hazelnut egg cream

2 egg yolks = 0.6 carbs
2oz heavy cream = 1.3 carbs
2 tbl. DiVinci hazelnut strup = 0 carbs
2 teaspoons of cocoa = 1.5 carbs
8oz decaf coffee chilled and a handful of ice

So this recipe only equals up to be 3.4 carbs

This tastes ALOT like starbucks frappachinos I can live with that for sure!

I don't know whats the matter with me today, im soooooo hungry and I feel as though nothing fills my void! lol

I had a shake for breakfast, then a snack (which I hardly never do) of meat and cheese, then tuna salad and a pickle for lunch, then a serving of tofu shiritaki noodles with cheese, and a 0 carb cracker with coconut cream concentrate on it.. and I COULD STILL EAT A COW!
im debating if I should make a shake anyway or if i'd be better off trying to have some tea with coconut oil or something..
I'm still starving, and I have downed 4 pint glasses of water since I have gotten home from work. My hunger and thirst just wont stop today.. anyone else have this ever? what gives?

WOE: Atkins '72. . .pass the eggs!
Start Date: 6/7/07 @ 193
This afternoon I made a yummy egg cream, peanut butter style!

2 eggs
2 T half & half
1 T coconut oil
1 spoonful organic PB (crunchy)
a splash of vanilla DaVinci's
8 oz or so of hot coffee

Zipped it in my magic bullet. . .really yummy! I didn't even mind the peanut chunks!

Btw. . .I was down .2 this morning. I am trying to figure out the best way to do this, as I also do Fast-5. Usually, I eat at 2:30, then again every hour and a half or so (a little something) until my window closes. But with the egg cream, I'm not hungry enough to eat. BUT I don't want to shortchange myself on calories for the day by not eating enough in my window.

What's a girl to do?

Anyway, the whole debate is moot today, as I was unusually *snacky* today. . .all lc and legal, but really. . .a little on the "gee, do you have a tapeworm?" side, if you KWIM!

*sigh*

Tomorrow is a new day.

I've had lots of days like that. I noticed it typically happened on the days I did weight training at the gym. I asked a question about it on another board and I was told by many people that I was not eating enough. So on the days I go to the gym, I have a protein snack before I go and then a high protein/fat meal within 30 minutes after. It's really made a difference.

I had an egg cream for breakfast and lunch today. I think I over did it on the coffee though I typically don't use coffee in my shakes but I bought some chocolate macadamia coffee over the weekend and I wanted to try it. I was really queasy this morning after drinking my breakfast shake and didn't start to feel better until 1:30. I had my 2nd shake around 2:00 and started feeling queasy again. So I won't be using coffee in my egg cream again!

I'm sad to say the scale was up 2 pounds this morning but I did over indulge over the weekend. It was all low carb - just too much. Hopefully by doing two egg creams each day this week I'll get the scale moving downward again.

today i mixed a bit around, and found out some very yammi stuff to add to your egg cream:

fresh berries

almond butter

fresh ginger and giner/lemon tea (icecold)

unfortunately i run out of protein shake, so i guess i will need a protein snack early lunch time!

Ourlovs-I usually get ravenous like that when:
1. I am about to whoosh!
2. hormones-PMS or mid cycle
3. Like Sue said, when I lift heavy

Here's hoping for a whoosh for you!

I seen where you get that terrible hunger right before a whoosh. But, I might agree that you also aren't eating enough. Ourluvs, you said you wanted to cut the eggs to get the egg cream down to 200 calories, but you must remember that cutting the calories can hurt you. In order to maintain your metabolism, you should never cut the calories below at least 1200-1500. There are charts on the web that will tell you how many calories you need for your weight and then cutting that just a little will keep you losing.

I tried my first egg cream last night and I thought it was wonderful. I get my eggs from a neighboring farm and they are very large, so my drink was more than a pint. This morning I am having another and it is about 22 oz. So far, I've made mine with pumpkin pie spice. You are right in saying that it tastes like a frappucino.

OurLuvs: IT IS THE HORMONES! Sorry, that is always my answer to the why's? I have to agree with Peony and the others: maybe you are not eating enough calories. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!!! Just because we are restricting carbs and trying to be structured doesn't mean we need to fight ourselves. When I am hungry, I eat more. Simple as that. The egg creams and the CO will be there tomorrow when I am not famished. I was craving GRAINS yesterday ... so I made some good Organic Brown Rice, takes 45 minutes! I ate a small bowl and felt great the rest of the day. Why grains? I don't know but I am fine today! For me, I know it is Hormones: cause I track myself monthly against a menses chart and yesterday is the typical day where I have an odd craving. So I feed it with the answer that is wholesome and then stick to plan on the other days. Don't stress over a day ... we all need to slow down and learn to listen to what our bodies are wisely telling us ... and to discern when it is simply pouting wanting a quick sugar fix! HA!

I am drinking an egg cream right now: Snickerdoodle coffee (it is the end of this batch, need to go buy some more!), 3 egg yolks ('cause I avoid the whites due to my sensitivities), 1 scoop of Body Fortress Whey Protein Powder (yummy protein!), at least a tablespoon of CO, splash of cream ... and some Egg Nog Davinci syrup (sugar free, of course!). I do love these Egg Creams! They sure do fill me up!!!

Discouraged

Ugh--someone explain this to me--I have done my egg creams for a week now, started last Tuesday. Sunday morning was down about 4 pounds total--very good results. I continued the egg creams, no cheating--just a normal low carb dinner and now I'm up in weight to 206.4 from a start of 204.4!!! This is so discouraging. I have had extra sodium the last few days but all legal. I still had my shake this morning and will try to push the water today but this is ridiculous. Yes, my tom is due any day--actually a few days late and NO I am NOT pregnant--better not be.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to jump in here, I've been lurking for a couple days but I haven't gotten around to posting. I've been doing the egg cream thing for a few days since I read about it on the ML boards. They are really good! I make mine with about 2-3 c coffee 2 eggs, tbsp coconut oil, 1/4c whipped cream and some splenda. I have started adding in 1tbsp of hersheys dark chocolate powder and it is SO good! Mine have alot of calories but they are a great breakfast because I get in the CO and coffee both of which give me lots of energy

I'm trying to get down to about 160 by memorial day. That's about 12 lbs in 6 weeks so 2lbs/week. I'm hoping that I will be able to do it! I've lost about 2-3 lbs in the last week.

BTW I love all the experiments you guys are doing! Very interesting..though egg and jello makes me a little

ITs great with coffee. You should try the hazelnut recipe I posted earlier but I made it today and it was even better with vanilla syrup and hazelnut yum!
I weighed today and Im down another 2 lbs. whoohoo. I think I just lost the water weight. I am taking a shake for breakfast and one for dinner. I eat a pretty good lunch too it seems to be working for me so far.

I may try!
I mixed the torini vanilla sugarfree syrup in my egg mix, but I might add it to hazlenut coffee at work, either that or i'll mix it with french vanilla coffee at work.
We have a kerug at work and the coffee is not all that bad!

OMG I just made the jello dreamsicle egg creame and it is sooooo good!!!! YAY Thanks to whomever thought of that great idea!! It is absolutely perfect I love it!!!!! Wooohoooo

Oh I used the sugar free strawberry jello it is fantastic!

I tried the nuking of the egg first and I don't think I'll do that again, b/c it "cooked" the egg to much. I think with this combo it's not necessary anyway.

Has anyone let the jello dreamsicle eggcream sit in the fridge and get firm?
I'm wondering if this could be a dessert.
I will try these later though! I still have to go to the store

Thats a good idea I was thinking about letting it set in the fridge but I didn't have the time to, but I'm sure it would be delicious.
