After reading about this challenge you've all got going on I would love to be a part of it! I have been on somewhat of a stall and even fluctuating between 10 pounds... and I happen to be up those darn 10 pounds at the moment (I seem to get a little too carried away with cheese and whipped cream) so I am willing to try anything that will get me not only in ketosis again but that feeling of fullness that lasts quite sometime. My goal is to get down anywhere from 15-25 pounds by then. Consider me IN!

I plan on having at least 1 shake a day for lunch and occassionally one for dinner too or maybe a dessert if I want it. I just love these - they're so filling and keep me full for hours!!! I'm hoping these egg/protein shakes will help me lose weight even faster! My goal is to lose at least 2 pounds a week until I get to goal!

I tried my own egg cream protein shake and it was very good! It tasted just like a strawberry milkshake when I was done with it. It did keep me full for hours! Now, I try not to watch my fat intake a bit, so here's how I made mine:

In a blender combine:

Frozen Strawberries
2 egg whites
4 oz. vanilla soy milk
4 oz. water
1 T. of ff sour cream
1/2 scoop of Vanilla Whey Protein Powder
splenda
ice

I'm also a little worried about the eggs - so I first mixed the eggs and soy milk and simmered that to make it sort of a thick custard first. My kids share this with me, so I just try to be careful. I really loved this and use to make a low carb strawberry shake like this before that you added an egg to. It would fill me up for hours and I had wondered why -but I'm sure it was the protein from the egg and fat from the heavy cream(it's what I used to use at the time).
I am curious about this myself. I would also like to cook my eggs though. How long do you simmer yours for?

[quote=gillygum;10179881]hey guys! well, i just got a big lecture from my friends this morning when they were going out to eat and i didn't order anything cause i was still full from my egg cream drink.

they're both in nursing classes and lecturing me that LOW CARB doesn't work!

QUOTE]

Well just to ease your mind I am an Emergency Medical Technician in a horribly busy Emergency Dept, work as a firefighter and am also going to nursing school. Not only does the majority (including some of our doctors) consider low carbing relatively safe but most of them are on the diet. To keep within healthy weight limits a lot of the firefighters I work with, also join in on low carbing.
The nursing students are all against it because we have to take that "nutrition" class that is based off the body's reaction to certain nutrients. They get absored with all the information about how "your brain needs carbohydrates to regulate bodily functions" and other info that probably has not been reviewed or re-printed in quite sometime. However, carbs are not bad if they are vegetable carbs. Which we as Atkin's dieters are aware of. So I hope that makes you feel a little better if you were worried at all

I still feel nervy about the eggs. I am going to Whole Foods later and see if I can find some pasteurized ones....
lol. . .I've only ever had them hot. So I sit here wondering how they would taste cold! So to answer your question, yeah, I like them hot!

(besides, making them hot keeps my coconut oil from getting all lumpy )

Anyhoo, I was actually up 1.0 pounds this morning. Maybe TOM is finally catching up with me. I did add back in my egg cream today, though. So, tomorrow should be better.

I'll check back in with you guys in the morning!

Have a great one!!

Starleen Yes, I know what the carton says but since the only substance that can be considered absolutely zero carbs is water, I feel better counting 0.4 carbs per T as a pretty accurate number for heavy wipping cream. A full cup of heavy cream has 6 carbs & there are 19 tabelspoons in a cup. So the actual count is 0.316 which I count as 0.4.

Ragdoll, thank you for the low down on the heavy whipping cream. I bought 3 containers because I read the back and thought no carbs. I used 2 oz in my egg cream today and made two more for tomorrow. On fit day it says the number of carbs for unsweetened heavy whipping cream. Go figure, and WOW. I thought it was to good to be true.

WOE: Whatever works
I'm hanging in. I made up a batch like eggnog, just with vanilla and allspice mixed up with it. I do these with vanilla whey protein. My mom loved it too. I don't feel so bloated and tired if I have this instead of a normal breakfast. I have one on my way to work and then I have to force myself to eat a little at lunch. This is kind of cool. I struggled last time with Atkins because I had nuts and SF chocolate, instant crave starters for me.

I now know what natural satisfaction is. Not being hungry versus stuffed and bloated. Thanks for all this info and fun environment!!!

If my calculations are correct I believe 2 oz of heavy cream will equal 1.3 carbs

yesterday was day 2 and I'm down 2.8 lbs from my high of 176. Yesterday I had one egg cream in the a.m.: 3 eggs, some cream (don't know how much - dumped it in) sf chocolate torani's, probably 16 oz coffee, 1 tbs. coconut oil and a tbs. of Fibersure and I was not hungry all day. This is the first time eating LC that that has happened to me. I've always read about appetite suppression but have never experienced it.
At about 4 I got a little antsy (not hungry, but starting to think about food a lot) and had a handful of raw almonds. Then supper, and I even had some berries after dinner.
Like I said, the proof will be that 170 mark. But so far I like it! I'll do it today and maybe tomorrow, then I'll go back to regular LC for a couple days, then switch it back again. Kind of a calorie/carb cycling thing.
Cool beans so far!

I've stumblen upon this thread and read it with much curiosity. I've been eating the same thing, but in different form everyday for breakfast for several years, I have 3 scrambled eggs, coffee with a little spenda and heavy cream. But if I read correctly, you feel that raw eggs have more benefit that cooked eggs. Am I correct? Just what is the advantage?

When I was a child, I used to put a raw egg in a glass of milk with some sugar and vanilla and stir it up into a "milkshake", so I am sure I will love the egg cream. I must get some heavy cream, though, before I can begin. I've run out and have been drinking tea w/o cream instead of my coffee.

Mornin'

So, let my EC experiment begin! Having a warm one now with 1/4 c eggbeaters [equals 1 egg], coconut oil, coconut davinci's, 2 T hv cream, 4 oz decaf.

I am still fine tuning my EC recipe to be one I am comfortable with, I suspect I will increase the eggs and coconut oil is a new addition to my diet as well..

WOE: Low Carb and Eggcreaming it up!
Start Date: Restart March 2008
Hi everyone!
Goooooood morning! and happy monday.
Today I go for my final fitting for my bridesmaid dress! woohoo lol (yeah right)
anyway, I am back up to 161! I dont know whats going on!
I just wish I could get under 160! This is killing me lol
Well I had a breakfast shake, with chai tea, and im having tunafish with pickles for lunch. and then I will have another shake for dinner.
I'm thinking I need to start using Fit day to start counting my calories.
and really measure my cream or maybe start using soy slender again. (I forgot to pick up more almond breeze booo!)
I would really like a shake under 300 calories, and so I think that means Im going to have to stop adding the coconut oil for a while, unless I can get a really low calorie alternative to heavy cream.
my am shake uses 3 eggs, at 60 calories an egg thats 180 calories and 3 carbs,
2 tablespoons of cream is god only knows what and 1 carb (maybe like 80 calories?)
and then 1 tablespoon of coconut oil is 125 caloires and no carbs
that leaves me at a shake that is 385 cals, and 4 carbs
If I use 2 eggs and no coconut oil its only 200 calories!

I dunnnnnnnnno lol

I started egg creams on Wednesday of last week but if I weigh in today - I'm down 1.6 lbs from last Monday. I haven't been having two egg creams a day but at least one. I did make one last night with two eggs, 1/4 cup of ricotta cheese, heavy cream, some fresh stawberries, flaxseed and a crystal light stawberry packet. Tasted just like a stawberry shake! I think I'm going to start adding a little fiber as they don't seem to keep me feeling as full for as long as I would like.

I am up 2 lbs today! Saturday I was down 6 (total lost), Sunday up 1, today up 2 I was not wanting to see that this morning
I am going to continue however, in hopes that my weight gain is just something simple like water.. I know its not TOM because I dont have one of those anymore so *crossing fingers* that is just water lol I have been exercising every day too except for my rest day and my carbs are good.
I did find the syrup Divinci that I was looking for at Walmart but they only had hazelnut and vanilla so I bought both. I am going to have eggcream for breakfast and dinner. and that this gets some weight dropping soon!

Ragdoll: Thanks again for the info what would we do without you?!

I'm starting the egg creme shakes today and I had my first one that I made like this:

3 eggs
Splash of vanilla
a tsp cinnamon
8oz hot coffee
and heavy cream
2packets of Splenda

It wasn't bad by any means but it didn't taste as good as I was hoping. I couldn't taste the eggs but it was kinda bland... Any suggestions on how to make it a bit more flavorful, maybe with ice? I'm going to the health store this afternoon to pick up some coconut oil and stevia any other suggestions on what to pick up to add to my egg cream to make it a bit more like a real frappacino.

Hi everyone. I've been following along, but not actively participating since my shake consumption is a little inconsistent. I'm trying to make it a regular part of my diet since it's so healthy and easy and delicious!!

I just figured out a new (or at least new-to-me) way to make these. I got the idea over in the Main Lobby in the Magic Bullet thread. Someone mentioned something about Jello Dream, which is Jello, cream and ice. Well, I just got done making the best egg cream ever. I took about half a packet of sugar free orange jello and dissolved it in 1/2 cup of boiling water. After it was all dissolved, I added ice to make 1 cup. Then I mixed it with my standard 2 eggs and half and half. OMG. It is SO good! It tastes like one of those frozen Push Up bars that I used to eat as a kid. I can imagine that this would taste good with just about any flavor of Jello. And the Jello thickens it up very nicely.

Good thing hubby works for Kraft so I can have him pick me up some Jello on the cheap!

Just wanted to share my new find! (Hope I didn't steal it from someone else!)

Many folks use DaVinci's s/f syrups. I use diet cream, chocolate or rootbeer & it's like a delicious egg cream soda

Wow. I have to admit that the egg creams with soda and coffee weren't very filling to me. But holy cow! I just finished the Jello egg cream and it was quite filling! Maybe this will be helpful for those that just don't get filled up with the coffee or tea or what have you.
