*Savvy Seven* April-May '08

*Savvy Seven* in February 2008

I'm losing it. I thought I started a new one on Saturday. Obviously not.

This was in my e-mail Monday (not the picture)

Hi from Botswana,

We just got back from our 2 night camping trip on a remote island in the Okavanga Delta. No showers or toilet for 2 days.

Went for a lot of bush walks on the island. Today, we came across a baboon spider. Our guide told us it is deadly poisonous.

We were in a hippo pool last night trying not to piss them off too much. In about a half hour we're going for
a 1 hour plane ride over the delta. Wen is taking lots of awesome pictures.

We should be back in Poughkeepsie on Sunday. Jamie

Hi Jezzie.

Looks and sounds like Jamie is having a lot of fun. When I was younger I might have thought that was fun, but not anymore. I am truly getting older. I looked for the new thread last weekend when I was at work. Couldn't find it and had to get back to work.

We got over a foot of snow since yesterday. We are in a storm advisory until 7 a.m. tomorrow morning. I took the day off when the forecast called for so much snow. Thought, I'd rather be home with Dh and maybe in the hottub than driving in that crap. I was right. Much nicer being here. I did pick up a magnum of champagne and some strawberries.....still have time for a hot tub dip. Got most of the snow off the deck for this round!

Got up and put some beer cheese soup in the crock pot. We bought it from Appert's. A food place that makes everything in bulk. Bought a case. So we had 4 big bags. DH made one last weekend and we took that to work. He came home so didn't get to enjoy any of it. I figures it would be good to have on a snow day. Too bad we have to work tomorrow. Will be in the 60's Monday, so the snow won't be staying around too long.

Shadow (the black lab) has been having problems with his hind leg just like Shiloh did last fall. I will have to take him in and see if we can get an anti-inflammatory for him. He is having so much problem with the stairs, etc. Hasn't slept upstairs with us for past few weeks. I feel so bad for him. Been giving him the glucosomene and condroiten like Shiloh had, but it doesn't seem to be working for him. He's going to need a prescription.

Gotta run. Have a great day.

Darn. I missed your post when I looked Sunday afternoon.
Don't know where my head was. ... Maybe it was earlier?

Holy Toledo ... and that's all I'll say about that.
But it does sound like you made the best of the day.

Poor Shadow. My next door neighbors dogs is going through it. She's fourteen.
How old are Shadow and Shiloh?

Nothing too exciting happening here.
Next month Laureen, Mike and Kiran go to China and Japan. I hope sure China
has calmed down by then.

Time for my oatmeal. ... See you in a few days.

Jezzie, I sent you a private message. Enjoy!! Hope it works.

Well, the snow is all gone now. It was almost 70 degrees and windy Monday and that pretty much wiped it out. Took Shadow to the vet. He is 11 yo and Shiloh is 10 yo, so not young pups anymore. Anyway, he has a mass of some sort growing at the spot where his femur got broken when he was hit. That bone is very skinny and eroding away which is why he may be having so much discomfort. 2 options. Amputate (but that is not encouraged as his other hind leg is very weak now) - and I will NOT have his leg amputated, or give him anti-inflammatory and pain meds and see how he does. I've opted for the drugs at this point. I am cherishing every moment I have with him. Already choking up just typing this. DH said we'll get a year out of him, I think that is very optimistic. The vet said we would know when we can't help him any longer. He will let us know too. Will quit eating, get extremely lethargic (like he's doing handsprings now), etc. He never whimpers or complains, has extremely high level of pain tolerance. Gosh, we love him so. So, his is not arthritis and I can't fix him.

Shiloh has been back to her normal self since last fall when we took her in. She still has that atrophied leg and her gait is a little off, but she can run and go up and down the stairs still, etc. We will be building a "ramp" down to the water since the vet said that was the best thing in the world for both of them to be swimming.

Grandkids have been playing outside and loving it. It is just so much better for them to get the fresh air, etc.

I also hope China has calmed down a bit by the time they all leave. Kiran is young, but I bet he'll take a lot of that with him. How exciting to be traveling. It is a long flight though. Hopefully Kiran can sleep on a plane!

Got to run. Have a great day.

That breaks my heart.
They are such a gift - and on loan to us for such a short time..
I wish that all dogs lived as long as parrots.

My Pittypat is ten and Jasper and Misty are nine.
Little dogs don't usually suffer from the same problems as larger ones.
Pitty has a couple of fatty tumors on her back.

Your grandchildren are too precious. What great shots the photographer got.

When Kiran went to Italy last year he entertained everyone on the plane. The little charmer.
This year he learned that he has a free will and some fool taught him the word no.
But he is still good natured most of the time.

Hi Jezzie.

Spring is almost here. The ice is almost all gone from the lake. We'll have the dock in next week at this rate. Shadow's leg is so swollen. Nothing we can really do for it. The anti-inflammatory just really doesn't seem to be doing much. The Dr. will get back to me again tomorrow. For a follow-up. I'm going to see if there is some other med we can try.

DH is off with one of our friends. At their cabin. The boys are putting in the docks there. So I've had the house all to myself!! WAHOO. Been watching what I want on the tv and doing just whatever I want. How nice. But,now. I have to go to bed alone. That is the part I don't care for. Oh well, can't have everything.

We might get snow again tomorrow. Of course, it won't stick. But to have to put up with it this late in April, Ugh. Just showed the preview to the movie "Baby Momma". Looks hilarious. I'll put that on my list!

Gonne run. Bed time pretty quick.

Spring has finally arrived. The ice is off the lake and it is almost 70 degrees out. Taking a break here at work. How are you doing Jezzie? Should we just keep this thread going? DH will have our dock in this week and the boat in the water.

Hard to believe it's already been a year since my dad passed away. It was a really sad day for me. Well, actually, the next day was when I was bluesy. My sister took it really hard too. But then, she was closer to him than I was.

Had Chaser overnight Thursday. What a trip that boy is. We had a blast with him. He is just so much fun.

Vet didn't have anything positive to say. The swelling will probably never go down, the fluid is building up. He gimps along. Has a very high pain tolerance. We've decided when these pain pills don't seem to work anymore that we will have to put Shadow down. We don't want to put him on the morphine or fentenal patch and just keep him drugged up. This is really painful. We love him so much.

Got to run back to work. Have a great day.

My heart is broken. We had to put Shadow to sleep yesterday. I am hurting and crying and will have to write more later. I just can't right now. Sorry. I love him so much. I can't believe he is gone.

Jezzie, looks like we are the last of the Savvy Seven. I think the healing is starting. At least I hope it is. Some strange things happened this week. More to come.

How are you doing. Are the kids still planning on the China trip now with all that's been happening. Natural disasters are up. Mother Nature seems to be winning.

Looks like we're in for a beautiful weekend. It is a little windy, but with the warmth, it feels nice. May get some thunderstorms late tonight. I'm at work (it is early and still slow) and thought I'd pop in while I had a moment. I don't get on the computer as much when it's nice out. Still haven't taken the boat out on the water, but then this is the first weekend of really nice weather. Might get out there tonight. I'm off on Monday, but hubby has to work. His kids will be coming out tomorrow for a BBQ with us. Grilling chicken and shrimp. Then figured I'd make a cucumber salad and cut up watermelon and strawberries. Should be refreshing.

I'm going to read some of the new posts for the day. I'll talk to ya soon.

BTW, ex-husband is here for 10 days...so I'll not be seeing my gk's until he is gone. Not that I can't see them, but he lives in California and I get to see them all I want so I don't want to intrude on his time with them. We were always best friends when we were married, he just couldn't keep his tool in his own pants, so that ended up being that! So I guess I'm lucky that we still get along, my DH even likes him. The ex has his own issues. (Don't we all!?!?) Have a great holiday weekend. I hope you are having good weather there too.

Just got paged, so I'm off to meet and greet someone and sell them some furniture!!
