I found out last night that the funeral is on saturday...crap I have to work saturday and its spa week! I found a friend at work thats willing to pull a double shift to help me out. I'm gonna go in and talk to my manager today and see if she'll work that out for me.
Its a funeral for crying out loud! She should right?

ENJOY Ntombi!!! Good luck on the slots!!!

Lori .. good luck getting off Saturday. It's a funeral, yeah ... but NOT a family or even extended family one. If they are in a special promotion week and really busy due to it ... I wouldn't push too hard or expect a special break. And if they do give it to you ... I would really expect appreciation in return as everything is a two way street. If I was your boss, and I really needed my team to support me when we were under pressure due to a promotion trying to attract more clientelle ... and it was not immediate family, and your husband was able to go to extend sympathies ... I would be telling you not to push it and to get your priorities in order if you did. Of course, that is JMHO ... and a view from the other side.

She gave me the day off with no problem! She totally sympathized. When we were talking about all of it, she even started crying. She ended the conversation with asking if she could give me a hug.
It went really well. More and more reasons keep popping up that make me soo happy I work there.

This is one of the few weekends I have nothing going on myself. Last weekend the dog show, next grandson's birthday, and the following the air show ... this one is total relaxation ... and shopping chores of course

Anyone else? Ntombi has plans .. I know that Hope she's enjoying ... Manzanar was pretty neat, interesting.

Hmmm ... we haven't heard from Charlee lately? Wondering if she tried a different router and lost it?? Nahhh ... couldn't be. She'd have called if she needed help ... I'd think.

I'll be spending alot of time in Long Beach. Tonight for the viewing, tomorrow for the funeral and then sunday possibly driving out to magnolia high school.
Saturday night is the UFC, we've been invited over to FIL house for the fight and dinner...right now I guess we'll just see if we feel up to it.

I'm really hoping that after this weekend we'll have some closure.
I keep finding out more and more details, and right now its making things worse.

Hi gang sorry I've been MIA for a couple of weeks..... First I went over and spent a few days with my cousin (George) while his wife was out of town...(that was fun) Then a couple of cousins came down from Seattle & Spokane....(even More Fun). We went to the Getty Villa in Malibu (it was just refurbashed last year)...and it was Great!

The historical society located 5 Civil War soldiers who were buried in Lancaster....(4 fought for the north...1 for the south) and one was our 'Grandpa West'......(he fought for the north, of course)
We never knew exactly where he was over there cause they never did put good markers up for these 5 fellows. Long story short.....the city got together and got beautiful, well marked headstones for them....and then had a big ceremony to honor them. We thought it was just going to be us and a couple of dignitaries...but, there were well over 100 people there...plus Lots of Civil War re-enactors from LA....with guns and a cannon and everything. We were the only ones there who were family to one of them, so they made a beautiful flag presentation to our cousins who are direct desendents from Grandpa West. They even included Ray in the ceremony.(Gina's husband...who's been a re-enactor (from Ga) most of his adult life) Anyway...it was all very nice and meaningful.....and it was all very touching.

Finally put the cousins back on their plane to Seattle & Spokane....but, miss them already...they are SO Much Fun!!

Neil......In the meantime....I had taken the original router back to the store and gotten the other one you mentioned, neil. Got home and realized I'd put one of MY wires into the box with the old router!!Good Grief!! Finally tracked it down and got it back.....and then couldn't figure out the new router.....we all tried without any success.....so....I finally paid a guy to come out today and hook it up. He had a time with it too...but finally got it working.....so far. Might have to go get a repeater/booster thing yet...not sure yet...... so.....THAT's What I've been doing since you guys haven't heard from me!!!!

Sounds like Ntombi'is on tour with mismatched teethLori's having to go to a funeralI'm sorry Neil has some free time this weekend...(hey..how was the 'dog show' last week? Terry, sounds like you're happy to see the weekend here too. (I still haven't looked at your 'stage' interview....maybe I can now with this new hookup). Need to go in and make my picks for drivers this week.....don't even know where they are this week.....Mike????? Ana...know you're busy and happy at home.

Oh......also....we went out to see the Poppy fields earlier this week too.....All those beautiful wildflowers look like someone just carpeted the desert.....absolutly breathtaking!!! The big festival is this weekend....that's why we went earlier......to avoid the huge crowds.

Gee.... guess that's all that's going on at this end of the world......
Sure feels good to have my net back....and FAST TOO....

Yes Charlee, I'm glad to see the weekend here, but the weather is very far removed from last Saturday. They are predicting snow showers overnight. That is VERY unusual - about 20 degrees cooler than normal for this time of year.

So, I am not sure what I'll be doing this weekend. I have no real plans, but the landscaper might come by tomorrow so we can talk about what we want to do with the yard. We're hiring the same people that did our next door neighbor's yard. They really got a fancy thing, with a waterfall. It is gorgeous, but I'm sure they spent the buckaroos!

So glad to have another tax season behind us. No more waiting up at night for DH, fighting to stay awake. It's nice to have him home on weekends too. It takes me a while after tax season to get used to having him around again.

Terry....that sounds neat (next door....waterfall,etc). I've been thinking about a small waterfall sort of thing for my side yard (between me and the rockpile)....but, of course, I'd have to make it myself cause I can't afford to hire someone who knows what they're doing....

I bet your DH was extra busy this year with everyone filing their taxes so they can get that silly 'kickback' thingy, huh?

Hey Mike....I just checked it out....there's no race this weekend....so I have till next week to pick my drivers. Do you know if Mark is gonna be racing that one????

Charlee, DH wasn't impacted by the stimulus package filing. Their clients are businesses. Makes for a lot of extensions getting filed.

Well Charlee ... can't make it up there soon ... but ain't routers fun They just take some figuring out, some pretty heavy brain power to get them right. Now it is possible that you would still need a repeater, and a shame you don't have a laptop up there for testing. Being portable, it could show you where the signal is strongest. I would suspect just inside the kitchen or living room back door, whichever that was ... or by the TV in the living room maybe. I had a strong signal outside until I hit midway down the house. Now that itself can be misleading as the house looks like it may be a prefab (?), and if it is ... could have more metal than it looks like blocking that signal from getting in.

Well, DH wants to shop around for a landscaper. He didn't like the guy my neighbors hired. The guy is kind of a blowhard, and you talk about expensive! So I get to make a bunch of phone calls now looking for someone else.

Hi guys! I'm back, exhausted but in one piece.

Manzanar was amazing. That was the best part of the trip. I was emotional the entire time we were there, though. I like how they set it up, with a combo of interactive and display parts, and the movie too, as well as the tie-ins to many other similar (or related) acts in our past and around the world. I definitely recommend going!

The tour itself was a mixed bag. We had a couple of successful concerts, and a couple where the turnout was less than mediocre, and some other snafus. Plus, the after-hours partying was quite something. Talk about making me feel old!

Overall, it was okay, but I'm definitely glad to be home!!!!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Charlee, good to see you back. Lori, I hope your friend had a sendoff that everyone felt honored him.

Ntombi Welcome Home!!!!

I agree, Manzanar was amazing, very well done, and quite emotional. Most people I saw there were walking around in silence, like a state of shock over what their fellow Americans had done, the way we acted. And the people who were interned there ... they did fantastic, made the best out of a really lousy situation ... they were Japanese Americans who showed true American spirit and ingenuity. Did you stay overnight in Lone Pine, or move on from there? Did you get a chance to look around Lone Pine itself? Not much to see there ... but the hills outside of Lone Pine, to the North side, is where they filmed many, many western movies. Gunga Din was also filmed there, as well as episodes of Star Trek.

Glad to see you back with us at home though

Lori ... it was amazing??? I almost hate to ask ... but ... uhh ... how so?

All the funerals I've ever been to have been in small little places. This was in a big cathedral, stained glass everywhere, very beautiful. HUGE turn out. They had to bring in extra chairs. The music they chose was perfect, the way they dressed him was exactly how I think he would have liked. A Marine showed up and saluted at the casket. (he was a former marine) turns out nobody knew who this marine was. Everything was just done with so much love and respect. The food afterwards at his parents house was amazing, so much effort was put into making this a beautiful way to say good bye.
Every funeral I've been to had maybe 10-20 people in attendance...this one probably had closer to 70.
We met his parents, and had the most amazing conversations with them. It was very comforting to them and to us. We even found out that some of the HORRIBLE details we'd heard thru the grapevine weren't true, and that was comforting.
We connected with his ex gf (the one he did this over) and got to comfort her and now have her info so we can keep in touch with her and help her get thru this.
So over all... yeah I'd day the whole day was amazing.

Yeah, Neil....it looks like a repeater/booster is going to be the only way to go....(short of hard wiring the big house to me....lol). Gina's house isn't 'prefab' at all.... good old fashioned two x fours, and nails.....covered with tar paper, chicken wire and stucco. It COULD be the chicken wire that's causeing our problems....... cause....SOMETHING IS!! (very frustrating!!!).... I have very good connection...but they are still hit and miss.... sometimes it works...sometimes it doesn't..... grrrrrr......lol

anyhow....the saga continues....lol

hope everyone is having an ok Monday..... mine was great! (retirement)

*hugs* all around....
