And boy am I glad I went on Friday!!! At least it was a great day weatherwise ... not a scorcher like today or yesterday was. Wow is it ever hot!! It says it's currently 93 here in Yorba Linda on the Net ... I don't believe that ... feels more like around 100. We're finished our shopping and just hanging around inside with the AC on, recovering from going out in the heat.

Last summer we had a heat spell and it got up into the low 90's for about four days. It's more humid here, so low 90's here is a lot more miserable feeling that the low 90's you get with the Santa Ana winds. But the good part is that it seemed to cool off at night and we never had trouble sleeping. We don't have air conditioning, by the way.

Tonight is already a lot cooler than last night...at least here. A nice little breeze blowing too. I have all of my doors and windows open like I do in the summertime. Tomorrow should be a lot better.

Neil...you picked it right going on Friday. Yesterday and today were just too damned HOT! That, and I know it would have been a total zoo there over the weekend. Lol.

Charlee...goodness gracious girl...you had the high score for the week! I slid a little. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Ntombi...I went to the Renaissance Faire back in 1976 when it was in Simi Valley. It was a day trip that I'll never forget!

I think its hotter tonight here.
I have alot of windows open....but the little buggers are getting in...ya know the **** roach problem here? We've kept them away with sealing up all the holes in the walls, but on HOT days, they seem to find ways in. grrrr.
Usually I see 1 a month, today I've killed 2 maybe 3.

I agree with Terry on the humidity issue ... something Californians know nothing about. Back on Long Island it didn't have to get hot hot ... humidity did it all. When you get above 90% humidity you feel like a wilted flower ... you just exist, and nothing more. You have no gumption to do anything, you drip sweat, you can't breathe, you can't stand the feel of your arms against your body ... and when you climb into bed at night, geesh ... your sheets feel wet and clammy. The dry heat we have is nothing compared to that.

You bet Mike ... if we didn't get there on Friday, we probably would have passed due to the temps. It was hot in the sun Friday, but walking around wasn't bad at all. And the place was not overly crowded. The last time we went, like 2 years ago, the buildings were so crowded, you could barely get through them or see anything. Friday was great. If we go again next year, I'll definitely make it a Friday again.

I did find it Lori. Sorry to hear that. But don't beat yourself up over it. You were decent to him, that's all you can do. Alcoholics are beyond help unless they want help. There is NOTHING anyone can do for them. They have to hit rock bottom before they'll seek help, and until they seek it themselves, anyone who tries to help them will just become another target for their excuses. There is absolutely no reason for you to feel you shortchanged him, or didn't do enough ... no matter what you might have done, it wouldn't have mattered. Alcoholics look for "enablers", people who give them an excuse for being their miserable selves. Been there, done that. I'm in California thanks to an alchy I left on the east coast ... and been there with my own sons. Their mom's full-blood Irish side passed on some hideous traits.

he'd been clean for years til his gf broke up with him. He wanted to marry her.
I know break ups are hard, I've been there plenty of times myself, I just don't know why some one would actually go thru with killing themselves over it. Its just not worth it. I wonder if she knows, and how she feels about it.

Neil, I don't know if you've seen this, but I thought of you when I read it. It's like the best of both worlds: a better hearing aid, plus it's high tech. Hearing Aids - Hearing Loss - Mike Waufle - Medicine and Health - Tara Parker-Pope - New York Times

Thanks Ntombi ... but I don't think it would work for me. The type I use now, totally in the ear canal, the smallest until these are borderline now. They are barely powerful enough, and I'll probably be switching to the larger ones, like full ear, if not behind the ear, just for the more power option. Not to mention the price on those ... WHOA!!!! they ARE expensive. Those are the kind that lawyers, judges ... maybe the owner of my company would wear ... ones that run 3 grand per year of use. That is outrageous ... and way above my means. Insurance, or at least what Deb has, just started paying a good part of them, more than the one-time $500 allotment which was virtually no help. I doubt they'd cover the cost on ones that fancy or expensive though. You know insurance companies, especially health care ones ... the cheapest they can get away with is their limit.

But thanks for thinking of me

I know Neil: over $3000 a year, plus all the visits. But it sounds like it could work for some (rich) people. I was reading the comments on the Times site, and the cost was a recurring theme. Actually, the cost of all of them. It's an amazing thing that they aren't required to be covered. Then again, I'm constantly amazed at what isn't covered that (IMO) should be. That's great that Deb's insurance will cover more from now on.

I finally had my final dentist visit, and got my permanent crown. It feels okay I guess, but the problem is that it looks funny in my mouth. Because I have 17 year old composite veneers that are about 5-8 years beyond their life expectancy, they have yellowed to a point where I'm embarrassed to smile. Also, they are declining rapidly, and I will have to get them replaced soon. Because of that, the dentist matched the crown to the color of my real teeth, not the veneers next to it, which means I have a much whiter tooth in the middle of my smile. It was the only sensible thing to do, long term, but until I can get up the $3-5 thousand for the other veneers, I am stuck with a mismatched mouth. And it feels like the whiter color of this new tooth only brings attention to the yellowness of the other ones. Arrrggh!! I know there are bigger problems in the world--heck, I have bigger problems--but this is still making me sad. *sigh* After $2000, I'm pain-free, but just feel like I need to have this other work done ASAP.

I'm getting ready to go on our choir tour. We leave EARLY Thursday morning, and we're going to Lone Pine, Lake Tahoe, and Manmouth, and do four concerts, including one for Earth Day on Saturday.

We're also going to the Japanese Internment Museum, which I've always wanted to see. I'm really excited about that (more so than a couple of the concerts, but don't tell anyone).

Please keep me in your thoughts as I'm on a bus (and sharing a motel room) with a bunch of young college students for four days. Keep a good thought that my iPod's battery lasts long enough, that I bring enough books, and that I don't lash out at anyone. I'm still not sure if I'll be bringing my iBook, so I may be offline for four days!! :thud:

Ntombi .. I never had a laptop for years ... just got one last year I think it was (if not the year before maybe) before one of my trip sessions ... and love it ... and wouldn't travel without it now. Have fun on your trip. That internment camp is a neat place to see ... and at least you'll be there at a good time of year ... before it gets unreal hot. It is in the middle of nowhere, literally ... and very much a shameful part of American history. Do you know where you're staying up there?

Lake Tahoe I wasn't that impressed with. Not being a skiier, nor rich, nor a smoker ... it didn't do anything for me. Wasn't a place I'd head back to on my own. Crossing the border to the Nevada side, and walking into a casino, I couldn't get out of it fast enough. Geesh, the smoke cloud in there was horrible. You couldn't breathe without getting a lungfull of crap.

I hate dentists ... and the pain from going to them ... so ... I'm bad when it comes to visiting one. I'ts been so long, I'd be even more afraid to hit one now ... dang I hate them. And every one I've seen wants to push those thousands plus dollar smiles instead of just allowing you to take basic health type care. I'm not into supporting their vacations and BMW's and putting their kids through college and fancy lifestyles. But they seem to insist on it ... they're not medical people to me ... they're very expensive salesmen.

My day went by fast too.
Was very busy.

WIll be glad when spa week is over. On the upside I think I've nabed (sp?) a few new clients that will return.
Tips have been so so this week. They are getting $100+ treatments for $50, and of course they are tipping on the $50. But at least I'm busy!

Cept its been a hard week to be busy. Really dunno how I've made it thru the last couple days.
