Accountability Not Excuses - April 08

Ok heres the deal:

This is a challenge for anyone who:

1. Is DEAD SERIOUS about getting the weight off for good

2. Understands that accountability daily is not an option, but a must

3. Recognizes that friendship and support is fundamental to their success here

4. Loves to share stories, ideas, recipes etc

5. Promises that if they mess up...they will get back on their plan by their next meal...not the next day, week, month etc

6. Will commit to some form of exercise daily

7. Can and will take constructive criticism and a good kick in the butt when needs be

8. Will find a plan and stick to it until they reach their goal

9. Will post menus daily

10. Will weigh and post weight (up or down) weekly

11. Will take and post measurements monthly

12. Will not make excuses or else #7 will be applied

13. Has a good sense of humor and can laugh at themselves

So if ALL of the above applies to you ....welcome aboard

Ugg! I've never posted measurements before! I'm bummed cause my waist measurement is actually up .5 from a few weeks ago---hopefully it's just the swelling/bloating I've been having. Also, just in case you might be thinking I have some huge tata's--I don't! I have broad shoulders/chest/rib cage and then more narrow below the waist. I think I also still have some swelling in the breasts (from the lift). I would definitely like to get the waist down to about 30/31 (lower would be nice but I have a lot of extra skin so a plastic surgeon will have to do the rest!).

lc/hf day---high calories!
b--white castle pie and a huge piece of rhubarb bake (kinda like custard/bread pudding)
l--Cheesecake Factory--boston house salad (no croutons) and 6 carb cheesecake
d--bbq pork tenderloin, cauli/green bean casserole, key lime custard and 1/2 granola bar

exercise--20-30 minute walk, I had to lay off the resistance stuff for awhile. I think it was part of the reason for the swelling so surgeon said to wait a few more weeks. I tried jogging this weekend---ummm, no, it was still a bit painful so that will have to wait too.

Got to get to a meeting, bbl.

Lei---so, dumb question...do racing pigeons actually race? I've never heard of them before. They are very cute! Yes, we do seem to have the same body type--however you are 5 inches taller than me so I'm sure you pull it off much better than I do! I'm glad you are enjoying Atkins again. Do you weigh daily? If so, do you mind keeping me posted on how your weight fluctuates during this transition? I'm still trying to gather any kind of info I can find on cycling and it's good to see others results.

Lucy and Missy---you are both shrinking! 3 inches gone around the waist---that is fantastic!!

Deb--I want to hear all about your plan! Not going to weigh for a month---you have some serious willpower my friend! I agree, I also get way too caught up in the scale and let it dictate my day too often. Maybe I will wean myself off a bit one of these days!

Lisa--when I'm somewhere with no low carb choices--I just keep looking! I usually can find something, even if it's not my favorite. I don't worry too much about offending anyone or even explaining myself anymore. On several occasions I've said that I don't eat sugar/flour/processed stuff and although I may have gotten a few questioning looks, for the most part I think it's pretty much received like saying--I'm a vegetarian. No one is offended or tries to push meat on a vegetarian and my experiences have been similar. For the most part, I have been able to control the situations I've been in so it just doesn't happen, or I eat first, bring a salad with me, etc. but on the rare occasions that I haven't been able to find something to eat--I don't eat or they magically find some low carb alternatives! As far as my favorite low carb meals---I have tons! Do you eat yocheese or Greek yogurt? That has been a lifesaver for me and truly my body seems to respond very well to it. I started eating it after being low carb for maybe 2 months and I've never had any problems with it. I also love chicken or tuna salad with red bell pepper strips used as the "dipper." For dinner one of my favorite meals is mahi mahi, cauliflower/green bean casserole (it's a Kevinpa recipe) and a pumkin muffin with cream cheese--yum! Other "basics" that I love--a big salad with grilled or fried chicken, sunflower seeds, cheese, bell pepper strips, hard boiled eggs, bacon and some kind of fantastic dressing like honey mustard. Cheesecake muffins, specifically peanut butter ones, are another favorite! I don't know if any of these things are "back to the basics" or not. If the basics are plain meat, cheese, eggs and low carb veggies only--well, then I don't have much input! That is the kind of food that makes me feel like I'm on a diet--which I hate and always end up blowing! Oh, my height is 5'5" or so---I say or so because I somehow grew .5 the last time they measured me but I think it was wrong!

Gonna go watch Biggest Loser. Have a good night!

Yes, racing pigeons are raised for racing... (sorry, but I found that very cute and funny at the same time) Some of my birds have flown from California, Oregon, and Washington... It still amazes me that they can find their way home, unless of course, a hawk is hungry for dinner along the way...

Yes, I am a scale ho, and actually weigh twice a day I can tell at night if I'm going to be down the next morning or not... And most definitely, will keep you informed during transition...

Biggest Looser made me tonight.... Then I watched Big Brother, and now American Idol is on, so have a great night all!!

Morning all!

Lei--I'm glad I could give you a chuckle! Now I am intrigued--so I'm guessing they have some kind of tracking device on them? And, OK, I'm pretty sure this is going to be another dumb questions but----who are they racing? OK, that even cracks me up! Also, are there certain seasons where you set them lose or do they just come and go? This is very interesting! How did you get involved with them? Biggest Loser was a bit sad. I watched parts of BB but I'm still having a hard time getting into it this season. Natalie drives me crazy but I have a feeling she might win. Who are you rooting for?

Day 2 lc/hf high calories
b: yocheese w/sf apple syrup and tons of cinnamon and 2 pumpkin muffins
l: huge salad with chicken breast strips (baked in olive oil), 2 hard boiled eggs, sunflower seeds, cheese and parmesean dressing and a peanut butter cheesecake muffin
d: bbq pork tenderloin, cauli/green bean casserole and rhubarb bake w/whipped cream

exercise--20-30 minute walk

Today is my 18 month anniversary of eating low carb! I really had hoped to be to my goal by now but for sure by my 2 year I will be there (hopefully sooner!).

Question of the day---what is your favorite kind of lettuce?

Mine is butter lettuce (also known as Boston lettuce)--I don't know what it is about it, but it is sooooo good! I was never a big salad fan until I found this.

Happy Hump Day everyone (Lisa, get your head out of the gutter!)!

Good morning my pretties............

How is everyone this fine day.............can you all tell I am in a good mood

I got up thinking I am so blessed to have such awesome people around me.....and I am so glad for your committment to this WOL.........cause I know I would not have made it this far without that...........You see, I just finished my first quarter (Jan -Mar08) LCing......and this is the longest that I have stuck it out in 8yrs.........I feel really positive because my little fiasco a couple days ago, would normally tail spin me into a 3 mth pity party........but this time something is different.......I dealt with a real life situation that I was unprepared for....and I bounced right back to my normal routine.....so thank you my friends for helping to keep me grounded...you will never understand how grateful I am for your support

Ok enough of the mushy stuff

Yesterday

B - nuts

L - coleslaw & stewed chicken

D - oopsie burger

S - almond crackers with smoked fish and veggies

Teresa
.....we really do have a lot in common.......especially the part about eating bland boring food that makes me feel like I am on a diet..........I eat most of the stuff that you mentioned....actually i forgot a few of them so thanks.......I especially love yocheese and since I can't get LC yogurt in Trinidad....I tend to make my own and add the splenda or flavorings......I usually make a 2 litre pitcher full and drain about half to make the yocheese then I add it back to the pitcher so That I have a fairly thick yocheese/yogurt combination....that along with my protein shakes are my life savers ...always ready and available....never had greek yogurt though just becasue I can't get it....but I am sure I would like it....I have been reading about it on this forum for some time now

so tell me more about the pumpkin muffin....in other words please share the recipe..........I love pumpkin and tend to use it in soup alot ......Hi Linda just thought of you ....wonder why....

Missy, Kat & Teresa ........we seem to all be around the same height..........like Teressa I seem to be still growing.........for years I was 5' 3" and I used to wear a size 8 shoe....then during my late 20's and through my thirties I noticed that I my shoe size went from 8 1/2 to 9, 9 1/2 and sometimes even a 10...wide width makes it vary of course..
.....I went to renew my drivers permit not so long ago and they normally have one's height in centimetres....so i decided to check one of those conversion programs and it said my height was 5' 4"........and then very recently I got a new ID card and my height said 5' 5".....so therfore I took an average and now I say I am 5' 4 1/2"

Teresa - congratulations on 18 months! You've done a fantastic job!!! You are my hero too! AND you eat great meals ... I love to see that!

Hey everyone!!!

You're not going to believe this, but I forgot to take my measurements! After all the discussion we've had! I'll do them tonight and report then.

So here's my new plan ... you may want to vote me off the forum (in true reality series style ... ) ... but I'd love to keep coming and talking and cheering everyone on ... Let me know what you think.

This is from my journal:
Okay, so, here's my new way of thinking about weight loss.

I've been reading and watching The Secret (the Law of Attraction or power of intention ... called a variety of things). And am striving to apply the principles. And so, on weight loss, the goal is not to focus on the need to lose weight, but to focus on perfect health. Believing that I am perfectly healthy and already at my ideal weight and the weight will come off and I will be perfectly healthy and at my ideal weight.

Thinking this way defies my lifelong thoughts, but all my lifelong thoughts have brought me is continuously needing to lose weight. So, I guess the Law of Attraction has worked for me already ...

So anyway, I am going to focus on the positives ... thinking healthy thoughts, believing that all the food I chose will only benefit my health. Eat consciously and stop when full. I will stay low carb, because my body is happiest when I eat that way.

So no more weighing every day. No more obsessing about food, about weight loss or lack there of. No more continuously thinking about my weight and the need to lose it. It'll be all about being positive and feeling good.

So my plan is to come here and talk about how good I feel! And, I am so happy and thankful that I feel good, healthy and prosperous today!

Debbie

Lisa--I'll get the pumpkin muffin recipe for you tonight--they are great! You know, on the lettuce thing I really use to think they all tasted the same--blah for the most part--until I had the butter lettuce--if you haven't tried it yet I highly recommend it! As for Greek yogurt---yocheese really tastes the same and is much cheaper to make yourself. I do like the Greek stuff when I'm traveling cause it's easy to grab and go/take along and they also have it in lower fat which I sometimes like. OK--who is Linda? Did I miss a new person? Also, 3 months is fantastic! I can count on 3 fingers how many times I have stayed on some type of diet or healthy eating plan for more than a month, I think my average was about 5 days!

Deb--I love your plan! I really need to read/watch The Secret--I've heard a lot about it and have to say that I agree with the power of positive thinking and how we bring to us what we put out there. Very cool! Don't you dare leave---I want to watch you grow and learn all about this from you! Also--if it were me I would wait until morning to take measurements (or in light of your new plan maybe not at all....?) just cause I know my measurements are higher at night.

Lei---yep, I am a scale ho too--I weigh 2x per day. Use to be 3x but I've slowly weaned myself off of that!

Hello,

May I join your group? I fell off of the low carb wagon and unfortunately gained back the 25 lbs I lost last summer. Sooooo I am back to square one!

I think an accountability group like this one is just what I need to get back on track!

Have a wonderful day!
